A Tucson staple. Local family owned restaurants that has been here in the heart of Tucson's southside on 12th for over 40 years! We ordered breakfast burritos! Parking is limited but even more so space is inside. Only seating available is two tables outside. Other than that they are mainly for pick up, catering etc. not so much done in. Staff was friendly and speedy. Next time I want to try the tacos or combo plates! But we loved our burritos! We finished them all. The salsa was a bit spicy so be careful if you prefer mild/medium. Maybe I didn't order the right dish from this place? I saw that they were one of the better menudo places in town. I made the trip down 12th Ave to try some. The restaurant is small and so is the parking lot. The inside appears to be a mom & pop owned business. The service was fast, friendly counter service. The menudo wasn't anything special. I got a lot more hominy than I did tripe. Good place overall, but probably won't make a special trip to eat there. read more

Parking was a breeze. Inside is clean and setup for takeout. Theres a small seating area out front. Jarrito's is the same owners for 44 years. There's some celebrity photos on the walls. Everyone I was greeted by was super friendly. My order is vegetarian. Potato, egg, cheese, and a smear of beans. They accommodated the bean shmear' to perfection. Their Tortilla has the right texture and everything else inside was tasty and delicious. The salsa's got some bite and is really good. It's an authentic Tucson spot. I went there to purchase a red chill burrito and it wasn't all that imo. First of all the beef was shredded, not cubed. Second, it cost $9.51 which is a bit pricy. Third, it was kinda small. In top of that, the salsa was bland and lacked spice, which I didn't get from the red chili burrito. Also, their hours are terrible!! What Mexican restaurant on south 12th Ave closes at 1pm in the afternoon?? I wouldn't go back or spend my money here ever again. I drove to the other side of town for some breakfast burritos and they were a total disappointment. See receipt: I paid $8.75 for a chorizo, egg and potato burrito. I also paid an extra $0.89 for cheese and $1.50 to add nopalitos. My burrito was only chorizo and potatoes. It was very dry, the tortilla was hard and overall a 1 star experience. My husband ordered the barbecoa and egg. Although it was better than mine, the barbacoa didn't have any flavor other than beef. Wouldn't recommend. read more

They do not have California or Arizona burro's that typically comes with cheese, potato's and carne asada. We ended up asking if they could make a burro that way. I do not know if the potato's used were frozen, but it was a very cold burro. We ended up microwaving it. The carne asada itself was very spicy. My mom could not finish it. And .... this was one of two suggested open for breakfast and lunch I was greeted by the owner's son and he explained that this place has been around for over 40+ years also where the locals I seen were very friendly and expressed that they Grew up on this food he did such a good job explaining the menu .... it took me a small bit to decide on what to eat.. Alrighty!! I had my first try at the red tamale... THE BEST I've ever "paid" for. The masa I saw was fresh made and I heard and believe is good! So I may be giving it a try very soon, making my own style tamales. If you wanna try these tamales please do!! You'll wanna lick the corn husk. Lol. They have a cut off date in which you can place bulk orders, specialty tamales. Not sure exactly what that means maybe with jalapeno and or olive. The masa they make and sell are two kinds. 1.99/lb. Dozen tamales are 16.99 (red). Size are generous portion. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Also if your into menudo... Guess what??? They clean, trim/cut and package the menudo. ! Jarritos is my go to place for burritos and tacos I normally get the barbacoa burrito which is full of flavor and delicious, they always add lime and salsa which is so good just enough spice. I also get the shredded beef dorado tacos which are so good and full of flavor. During COVID they only allow 3 guest in the building which is nice and you have to wear a mask. My company uses Los Jarritos for a large catering order every year during the holidays. We arent at all close to the restaurant, but it is worth the commute. The food is wonderful!!! Everyone asks me at the parties where they can go for more. The beef/chicken tacos and tamales are a crowd favorite, but their calbacitas are my personal favorite. The tortillas and salsa are on point. I also appreciate the atmosphere there. There are always some regular customers in the lobby and the family that works at Los Jarritos are so nice and fun to be around. I've passed by this place a million times and never realized what I was missing. Their food is simple yet authentic and very tasty. The beans and rice are great, no over the top spices or weird added ingredients, just good ole beans and rice. The tacos are delicious! The taco shell was fresh and home made, they stuff them with lots of lettuce and cheese and whatever meat you choose. The prices are what got me though, I got a taco combination plate (2 tacos, beans, rice, and salsa), menudo, and a carne asada burrito and it was $11. So far I can only speak for the breakfast, maybe later I will try more and raise the rating. Machaca is good, barbacoa has great flavor. OH MY GOSH!!! Unfortunetly I don't live on this side of town but if I did I would visit this place everyday!! They have the best salsa I have ever had from a fast food type establishment of this kind. Their b-fast burritos are on point. Oh and not to mention they make home made soups (posole, albondigas and menduo) that if you bring your own container they will fill for $3 cheaper! I am so glad that my boyfriend works in the area and can bring me good eats from this place!
