Would like to try them again with a different dish. Portions are huge. Staff are friendly. Shrimp and scallops dish was tasty. It came out looking like an extra large soup. First time here for dinner and I wasn't really impressed. The bread was cold when it was served. Our waiter was great....and basically that is what made the evening, was the service. For a premium restaurant the food was overpriced for what you received and how it was presented. The noise level was high. It was not as cozy of a place as I pictured it to be. No homemade spaghetti or ravioli and that is so important for a good Italian place. Lots of other Italian restaurants located in Tucson, so Piazza Gavi needs to step up. I have been a visitor to Tucson for 10+ years and have always included Piazza Gavi on my have-to-do list. This time however was not pleasant. The food was at its greatest . The service was slow and the waiter inattentive. My husband had to approach the front desk to send our waiter with the bill. Then he had to go back and ask for his credit card which was not returned with the bill receipt. The order I received was not what i requested. No, I did not point it out because I had already waited over 30 minutes and the waiter did not come back to the table to check our satisfaction. Not sure I will return. read more

5 of us stopped in for dinner tonight. In a nutshell, it was very good. I had a 'small' salad which turned out to be more like a regular dinner sized salad. I liked it. The menu is extensive. Next came the clams in white sauce. The clams were good, heavy shell clams and they all were good to great albeit there was too much salt on them. They were served on a bed of spaghetti noodles in the white wine sauce. Nice touch! I asked for extra bread and sopped up the white wine sauce, it was a great sauce for that. Service was a bit slow BUT there was a steady stream of people coming in, it was busy. I'll be back to try other things on their menu. read more

COVID-19: inside dining room open at 50% seating; masks required for entry and are available if you need one; staff wear masks; take-out available with mandatory 15% service charge. We had take-out today. We ordered over the phone, and service was courteous. Food was promised ready in 15 minutes, and it was. The actual food was a mixed bag. We ordered a bolognese and a carbonara. The Bolognese (mostaccioli pasta with a crema and meat sauce) was very tasty, and the overall portion is very large -- easily enough for two. A winner. It is my wife's favorite. Did I say my wife's favorite? And so of course she ordered the Carbonara Italiana -- pancetta, egg, and parmesan cheese on angel hair pasta. Simple, yet daunting to make at home, because if you add the egg when the pan is too hot, you get scrambled eggs and pasta, and not the lovely silky smooth, emulsified sauce that can only come from egg yolks lovingly combined with a bit of oil, pasta water, pancetta and cheese. But, scrambled eggs and pasta is what we got, with a horrendous bitter aftertaste. If we had been sitting in the restaurant, we would have sent it back. It was inedible. My thoughts? Maybe carbonara doesn't travel well. But geez, it was really bad. It's a premium restaurant, with premium prices, and I think they could have done better. If you like Bolognese, you're in luck. It's always been good here. Great, even. If you really like carbonara, then I recommend you try someplace else. I know we will. read more

We went into Piazza Gavi when the nearby sushi bar had stopped seating 45 minutes before close! What a great discovery. Everything was delicious and the wine list was excellent. We spent around 100 with taxes and 20% tip for dinner and wine for two, but the portions were so generous we took home enough for another meal. Also need to add how cozy and comfy the patio and dining room are. Staff could be better trained as they were slow and distracted. read more

A perennial favorite. We had a farewell dinner for my daughter-in-law's parents at Gavi's. I had Pasta Romana, fresh mushrooms in rosa sauce with Fettuccine noodles and they were happy to add flat iron salmon and, by request, indulged my love for lots of Parmesan cheese topping. We have been to Piazza Gavi many times. The atmosphere can get loud but it is fun! Food is excellent and the menu is large - there is something for everyone. We have also experienced a fair amount of waiters. By far our favorite is Acilio G. He is kind and attentive. He makes his job seem fun and easy although it is not. So service was great, most of the food was excellent, but disappointed the margharita pizza was a soggy mess - crust was not crust. We ended up taking most of it home to put it in the air fryer to crisp it up. flavor was good, but execution was disappointing, especially since the table spent nearly $500 for the night. read more

I visited this place while in Tucson for a couple of days. First off, the staff was polite, professional and efficient. The atmosphere was very pleasant and appealing. We sat outside while we dined and the weather was perfect for an evening meal. I had the Fettuccine Alfredo with a chicken breast. The meal was very well presented and absolutely delicious. I could not finish the entire portion, but I would have liked to. The very pleasant young lady, who I assumed was the manager or owner was very delightful and even brought us a sampling of desert after our meal at her offer. Me and my daughter had a superb meal and I could not have asked for a better experience. Our waitress was excellent, although regretfully, I did not get her name. I highly recommend this place and I will be back next time I am in Tucson. read more

Given the consistency of the excellent quality of Service at the Bar provided by fairly new employe, "Ty", I am writing my first Yelp review. Ty has a depth of knowledge regarding wine, yet seeks input about individuals' preferences as well as taste. He makes sure the food ordered at the bar is cooked well and doesn't hesitate to send back an order (pizza) whose crust was too well burned. he is personable yet respectful. Took my whole family here and the experience was beyond what anyone would anticipate. To start, the wait staff was incredible. John was our server and he made sure everyone's needs were met at every single moment of the dinner. I'm gluten free, my sister is vegan, and my parents are somewhat picky -- the fact that he could wait on us so effortlessly was just incredible. To follow, the food was AMAZING and came in such great portions. We will probably have two meals after our dinner with the leftovers we took home. Everything tasted fantastic and for the price? It simply cannot be beat. Also -- the desserts are definitely worth a try. The gelato is some of the best I've ever had!! Lastly, they have a full bar on top of an extensive wine list which can be hard to find at Italian eateries. Could not be happier with our experience! We have ordered from Piazza Gavi every weekend for years via doordash. My husband likes their pasta and I enjoy their gluten free pasta. However, we are no longer getting their food for the following reasons: I ordered the red onion salad three times. The first red onion salad was perfect: red, marinated onions, plenty of those, abundant dressing and freshly ground pepper on top, the tomatoes were sliced thinly and the salad was assembled with care. The second time I ordered the same salad I got huge quarters of unripe tomatoes, two slivers of red onions, barely any dressing and it was thrown together without care. The third time I ordered the same salad I got plenty of raw red onions, Roma tomatoes in huge quarters, and barely any dressing and again it looked terrible, assembled without care. I even took the time to write personally to Piazza Gavi but didn't get a response although I mentioned in detail what was wrong. If a restaurant cannot make the food the same way three times, and then doesn't respond to an eternal customer, they are not giving a damn about their customers. So we won't order from them again. Maybe the Italian owner should check what's going on with his restaurant. No Italian would stand for this kind of subpar salads. Che Vergogna! read more
