2.7 stars, rounded up to the nearest whole integer. I've always considered the coffee at Peet's to be better than Starbucks' coffee. I have no idea why the franchise is named Peet's... I glanced at a framed "HISTORY of PEET'S COFFEE" infographic on the wall, but I didn't pay that much attention to it. I didn't research it, either. I am too busy with artificial intelligence research to go down a rabbit hole/conduct any "niche" research that is not relevant to my academic interests. Coffee is like a hug for my own brain-- that is the only reason why I visit cafes often-- for coffee! :) And of course, the ambiance Dictates... I mean, influences how much time an individual decides to spend at an environment. For me, I am always looking for a quieter ambiance so that I can focus on my studies/work. I don't mind overhearing human & humane conversations at times, but I usually just tune them out. I've spent time at one of the many Peet's coffee shops in California, since high school (which was many years ago-- when COFFEE ALMOST FELT ILLEGAL TO DRINK, although there is no legal age when children and youth are given the "ok" to start drinking coffee, as it is not an activity like driving). I forget which parent, sibling, or friend suggested coffee to me, while cramming for final tests. In my memory, the environment at Peet's coffee shops are consistently more muted-- both in the color schemes of the interior and the "inside voice" volume that they try to maintain (I think that that is their intended design...). I really prefer these sorts of coffee shops, over coffee shops that have started to feel more like karaoke bars or an open-mic night that I never wanted to attend. I don't think I am the only person in the U.S. who has noticed these "trends" and "CULTURAL shifts"... This particular Peet's, at this point in time, has some consistent elements and qualities. The lighting choices overhead suggest that the environment could be functioning as a part-lab, part-hospitality-establishment, and maybe part-something else. The coffee, tea, and the food choices remain consistent. It seems that they have expanded their brunch menu, for busy everyday professionals... I appreciate ordering something to-go, to save time. The baristas are conscientious. They handle diverse interactions with customers well, and I actually feel sympathetic towards them as about half of the traffic feels jarring to my nervous system (depending on the day-- and I don't even have to interact with them). If I were to rate only the quality of their service and conscientiousness (as a visitor), I'd rate my review higher. read more

I'm a Starbucks dude, but my coworker told me about a Horchata Latte that I had to try. When I was up to bat there was a little confusion on what I wanted exactly, but the Barista Steven handled my drink with perfection after telling him I've been up since 4:30am and giving him dealers choice. Oh and I when I took a sip, I have to tell you it is a solid 10/10, i don't know what he did, but the horchata cold brew drink he made was definitely made with love and made my Friday! Espresso is only as good as the barista making it, and I have had some of my best lattes and cappuccinos in the most unexpected cafes. This Peets location gets it right. The baristas here are excellent. They take the time and care to pull a proper shot, foam the milk correctly, and get the details right. My favorite drink here is the Havana Cappuccino, light on the condensed milk (this contains the sweetener). The ambiance is solid, with plenty of seating and a mix of people working or in conversation. The space is clean, well maintained, and consistently pleasant to spend time in. If I had any suggestions, it would be to warm up the cups they serve the drinks inhouse in. read more

Coffee's good, service is fairly quick, but the attitude is lacking. The crew, on the day I was there (July 25, 2025) was lackluster in their behavior and made me and my wife feel unwelcome. I guess they care about some of their clientele's names, and they want to shoo away other, perceived lessor types as quickly as possible. The funny thing is - I pay less, get quicker and way more friendly service at Starbucks. There's a reason it's a worldwide thing and this is well...mostly local. The female barista got the lowest tip I've ever given anyone, ever. That's a manifestation of my thoughts on her professionalism. Go for the coffee, not for the attitudes! read more

I love Peet's but this is not a favorite location. I always order my drink in advance (usually 30 min before) because I work uber and lyft. They are usually late making drinks here and watching the girl work with the twin flame sweater on, is like watching a Sloth. This is the best location ever all tanks to this barista named Olivia. I've been going to this location for two years now and I always look forward to seeing her at the store. I always get the same drink over and over again which is an Iced matcha and she always remember to pull the foam because i don't like it too foamy but when she makes it it's perfect. Really lovely cafe towards the edge of downtown Mountain View. Nice coffees, good selection of pastries, and pleasant atmosphere. Spacious indoor and outdoor seating with a large patio area. This is my go to Peets and the team really is outstanding. CJ, CL, everyone there really do such an excellent job and the coffee is always top notch. I've been a strictly Peets person and have had coffee from around the world and always come back to loving Peets coffee above any other coffee shop. With that said, there are only a handful of this chain that are continually on their A game and this location is one of them (Brokaw and Pruneridge are the others). This one on Castro Street itself, next to Sweetgreens is easy to get to, larger which helps for social distancing, and the staff is friendly. You have been warned. You will wait anywhere from 15- 20 minutes for your coffee. The order is wrong at least 50% of the time. When you tell the barista the order is wrong they just shrug their shoulders and turn around. I have ordered coffee with milk that was just black coffee. I have ordered dry cappuccinos (almost no milk) that have more milk ratio than espresso. Once I ordered a double macchiato with extra foam, it was 1 shot of espresso in a child's cup. They frequently run out of milk to put in yourself, no one acknowledges you, and then it takes another 5 minutes to wait for them to put some milk in a cup for you. On several occasions they said they never got my mobile order, that I ordered from a different location but I show them the confirmation email at this very store and they do not say anything. I cannot stress enough that there is no customer service training, no smiles, no welcomes, and zero cares about getting my order right. I feel bad for the one employee I heard complaining on her cell phone outside how understaffed they are and how unhappy she is. Where is the management? read more

I love this Peet's location. Most of the stand-alone locations I've been to have really good coffee beverages (as opposed to the locations within grocery stores, which sometimes have worse coffee than I make at home). This one is also still pretty new, and has a fair amount of seating. I think it attracts quite a few professionals who want to do an hour or so of work away from their desks or who have flexible work arrangements. Depending on when you go it can get pretty crowded, but so far I've always been able to manage a seat. There's usually a few conversations going on, but sometimes, even when it's full, a third of the store will overhear your particular conversation unless they're wearing earphones. I've inadvertently witnessed a few first dates that way .... In fact, I've headed there for an hour now! Hopefully just for a latte and to get a few things done, not to become a third wheel. read more

Note: this is mostly a review of this Peet's as a study spot, and not necessarily a reflection on the coffee itself. Extremely spacious Peet's located on Castro street. I came in on a Sunday morning to do some work and was pleasantly surprised with the amount of seating in the Peet's. This Peet's is definitely designed for studying, with large windows allowing plenty of natural sun-light in, multiple large communal tables + ample window-side seating + outlets throughout. Bathrooms are relatively well maintained and service is prompt and friendly. Parking will have to be street parking, but there's ample spaces throughout. read more

Very serviceminded. The moment I step into the door, many of the baristas were welcoming me very loudly. The line was short. Only two woman in front of me. After I ordered my coffee, they forgot my order somehow!? Those customers who came after me got their orders before me, which was bit strange. However when I told the waiter, if one the cups were my order. He said no. Again after a while when I felt like all the customers after me got their orders. I started to get upset and forgotten. Come on! It's just one single cup coffee and not 20 cups! I told two female baristas that you've forgot my order and they finally had to make it for me! I like they're serviceminded by greeting the customers, but considered that there were not that many customers in the line. How can they forget me order? This is the first time that it happened to. Of all the Peet's I've been to, this has got to be the quietest. Maybe it was the time of day, 3:30pm on a weekday, but for such a central location, it was really quiet inside. The vibe was chill and you see lots of people busy at work and in power meetings over coffee. I had my usually medium Latte, which surprisingly had a bit of Latte art, really made my afternoon. Staff was friendly and quick. The decor was nicer than other locations, with leather chairs and the long community table in the center is a great touch. I will definitely keep this place in mind next time I'm in MV. read more

What used to be a slew of failed restaurants has split the space in two for Sweet green in one half and Peets in the other. Blending in with the rest if the Fenwick building architecture it has the noveau strip mall thing going without looking too much so. I'm so happy that New Peet's Coffee is so close to my house! Now I am a heavy coffee drinker officially Lol. Every part of this place both inside and outside are great. Even the restrooms are so clean and nice. I can say restrooms here are way better than many coffeeshops and restaurants Ive experienced. Staff are friendly and on point of course. I feel like staff here are more friendly than other locations from what Ive noticed so far. I always see smiles on their faces with friendly attitude,thank you for that. I'm used to walking into a Peets and then waiting 10-15 minutes in line. It was a pleasant surprise to walk into the Peets in Downtown Mountain View and have virtually no one in front of me. I was able to place my order and was in and out within 5 minutes. The barista must have been listening to me place my order for a small nonfat cafe au lait because as soon as I paid and walked over to the bar, my drink was already there waiting for me. I have a question for the barista wearing a black & green plaid shirt that was working today 6/30/19 at this location: Is it really that irritating to you when a customer forgets to order almond milk in their drink instead of regular milk that makes them sick, because you charge an additional fee? When I realized I forgot to add almond milk I tried to get it corrected but the cashier was busy so I thought I'd let the barista know only to be told "to next time let the front know cause we normally charge for that" which I did and I offered to pay for another drink which she refused. I only got more confused because I didn't understand the need for the remark. I got my correct drink but shitty ass service so I wasn't happy at all. These guys are great. I work right down the way and stop in frequently. The service is wonderful and I've never had an issue with a drink or food item. Quick and accurate. Khang always helps me. He is so efficient with everything he does and always seems to be in such a good mood (I could take some pointers from him). The location is very clean and always seems to have a focused, yet welcoming atmosphere. Lover of all things Peet's! This is one of their newer locations. So glad since the only other spots were Red Rock, who are super over priced, for 10oz drip alone is $3.25, like c'mon. Philz, charges are less or about the same except, they actually have a reason for such a price point, seeing they brew every cup from the time you order and fix it the way you'd like it. The other option was Strabz, who's company I've grown affinity towards over the years, for remaining consistent. Back to Peet's though! You can't ever go wrong with just plain ol' drip...it's at least my way of inducing some serious caffeine. Im pretty sure even their largest drip is still under three bucks. Their drinks are decent. Depending on the barista, again. Trained employees make a difference of course. So I just stick w/ drip Or americanos. Bc a barista can't really get those wrong. Anyway, decent spot.
