. They would not honor a gift certificate that was purchased right before Covid hit. It is my understanding that it is New York State law to not have an expiration on gift certificates/cards. Some of these reviews are borderline hilariously nit picky. My husband and I came for lunch here twice, sat outside, both had the haddock sandwich w side salad and split an order of sweet potato fries. Huge and yummy and the outside area is beautiful. Went last night with a party of 5, arrived around 7 & were seated to the right outside, not under the patio. Service was slower than slow with no explanation (or apology) except "the kitchen is short staffed". Meanwhile, tables that were seated later than us were done with their meals before ours even arrived. Food was ok (some liked theirs better than others did). When the check arrived a 20% gratuity was added in (not usual for a party of 5). When this was questioned, the response was , "that's the way we do it & we have never gotten any complaints before." We dined at this restaurant and brought friends especially for the sauerbraten that was on menu. I have to tell you I am of German decent and it was the worst attempt at sauerbraten I have ever encountered. Never have I seen rare sauerbraten. Sauerbraten is made as a marinated pot roast. It it tender and well cooked. Impossible to have it come out rare. The chef is serving tough roast beef with a sour gravy and noodles and passing it off as sauerbraten and speatzle. Please do everyone a favor and take it off the menu until you have a chef who knows how to cook speatzle ( which is cheap to make and much better homemade) and sauerbraten. We were highly disappointed at a waste of good money for a dinner out. Yes we did bring it to the waitresses attention and told her there is no way to make rare sauerbraten. Her answer was" I have no idea about that I can cook it, more if you want." I told her you can't turn roast beef into pot roast! Yesterday afternoon, we were returning from Westchester County, and decided to stop and treat ourselves to a late lunch... early dinner. We've lived in the area our entire lives and, for some reason, never remembered PC PADDOCK when we were looking to go out. It was a late summer afternoon, warm but not hot out, and we were seated out under the tent on the patio. Our server IMMEDIATELY brought menus and took our drink order. On returning with our drinks, she took our appetizer order; clams on the half-shell and an order of ale steamers. Quickly she returned with the clams - the half shells were fresh, clean, plump, juicy, and well presented. Maureen LOVED EM.... My steamers were perfectly cooked .. just opened and not overcooked so as to be rubbery, mine were tender and clean. (Only wish there was a touch of garlic and maybe some fresh herbs in the broth). We then decided to order the Sunday Special - SMOKED ROASTED PRIME RIBS .... While we were having our 1st drinks and the clams, we saw the chef/owner remove the ribs from his outside smoker and THEY LOOKED UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When the order was brought out, they were fresh cut, juicy, not full of fat and grizzle, and TASTY !!!! With just the slightest hint of good smoke. (If over-smoked I believe you can kill the natural beef flavor that you want with a good piece of beef). They were a decent cut of meat, not too thick and not too thin .. just enough to eat comfortably without loosening your belt. Maureen got the mashed potatoes and she thought the were tasty and well prepared. I got the Tavern Fries which were crisp and well fried. We both got a side of julienned carrots and fresh green beans which were fresh and NOT OVER-COOKED. We were VERY PLEASED with all levels of this location - service was smart, quick, efficient, friendly, open, attentive and overall very pleasant. The food was an absolute bargain and well worth the bill. The outside patio was clean and pleasant and was wonderful place to sit and enjoy our food and drinks. I have driven by this place for probably close to 20 years and have always wondered what is was like. Mh husband and i finally ate there and were pleasantly surprised. PC's is not fine dining, folks. It is, however, a pretty decent little bar and grill. They have upgraded the beers they have on tap and there is a nice assortment of microbrews. The building is ancient and has its own rustic "charm" (some of you may find it charming, while other may just say, um. WTH with the dead animals on the wall?) The food is pretty middle of the road. I wouldn't go for the expensive entrees, stick with the sandwiches and bar-type offerings -- that's pretty much their wheelhouse, in my opinion. Ok, I can respect that but no other table was offered even though we were the only ones on the patio. The food was mediocre at best. DON'T GO HERE!! We usually have had great experiences here but our last visit was the last straw. We didn't have a real waiter and the "one" we had seemed rude and wasn't listening to our orders. My sisters order was completely wrong and the steak was dry along with the "vegetables" and "mashed potatoes" which weren't really mashed potatoes. Overall, it seemed like she was paying very little attention to us. On top of that, there were as a family next to us who had the same problem and they left most of their food on their plates. So...
