Happy with the beer
Jennifer L.

We came to this location because the owner is a CIA alumnus where we both went to school. I'm super excited to try the lobster roll and we were really impressed with the beer selection. I wish there were a few more wines, but I understand that's not their specialty. My husband got the Optimus prime sandwich. Delicious. Lobster roll: amazing. Worth $30. I was gonna give this place four stars because of the ambience, but the food definitely is five stars. Service: quick, professional.

This place still rocks! Came out on a Thursday night for the 50 cents wings and are they good. My fave is the bonsey buffalo sauce. The waitstaff is amazing and so much fun eating and drinking outside!

Excellent food, good beer selection, friendly service! Our family if 9 stopped at Tavern 23 for dinner in October 2024, after spending a day on Walkway Over The Hudson and in Berean park. We chose Tavern 23 based on good reviews and appealing food and beer selection. We made the right choice! All the food ordered was flavorful, fresh, and overall excellent. Steaks and burgers were done to the heat level ordered. We got some interesting beers on tap like New England Hazy IPA, Toasted Pumpkin cider, Key Lime Pie cider. We were seated outside to accommodate 9 people. Sheila, our waitress, was super nice and friendly and helped making overall visit highly enjoyable. It was a great finish after the foliage hiking day. Thanks Sheila and Tavern 23! We highly recommend Tavern 23 if you are looking for good quality American cuisine in Poughkeepsie! Appetizers Street Tacos - steak pieces were tender and the sauce on top was a perfect match! Honey BBQ Wings - excellent. Were gone in no time. Beech Brie - delicious! In addition to warm brie and crostini there was a soft, melting in the mouth roasted garlic. We loved it. Entrees 14oz grilled NY strip - flavorful, juicy, cooked perfectly! Fish -N- Chips - fresh and flakey! Grilled Salmon - salmon was rightly cooked, not dry. Tavern Burger - juicy and sizzling! Braised short rib with Mushrooms - the meat was tender and soft, the mushroom sauce was good though a bit over salted. Grilled Swordfish over Olive Tomato Risotto & Spinach - excellent. Caesar Salad - as it should be.

Menu, both sides!

Shared three appetizers with my wife and they were all delicious, especially the Brussels sprouts. They were thinly sliced, seared perfectly and coated with a nicely spicy sauce. Best sprouts ever! Service was prompt. The place was packed but there was a six seater with only two patrons who offered to share their table. Had a pint of one of the many local breweries on tap. Although this place is small in size, it's big on everything that counts!

Roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon

A nice informal friendly place with awesome food. We were greeted right away when we came in. I wasn't expecting the creative food options at first when we looked at the menu. We ordered 3 appetizers for the two of us, and that was just the right amount. We had the Roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon, shiitake mushroom potstickers, and pieroges with the topping of the week (salami, olives and shaved parmesan). Everything was excellent but the Brussels sprouts were over the top amazing. The best roasted Brussels sprouts I've ever had. So flavorful. A sweet and savory glaze and lots of crumbled bacon. To drink I had a hard cider in a nice frosty glass- i got the blackberry flavor, sweet like I like it. I liked that they had a variety of ciders in addition to a nice selection of beers. My husband got a beer on tap, which was really good.

The Brown Derby

You know the kind of place where the people make it the kind of place that you love at first visit?…read moreThat's the Derby. We've heard from various sources that this is the best bar for neighborhood vibes. I don't always love that because it can cause this exclusionary type of situation and also, I won't name names but there's a so-called "bar where the locals go" in Fishkill that attracts folks I personally wouldn't want to rub elbows with because let's just say their values don't align with my own. But here, it's different! The bartender and manager were both SO welcoming and sweet and all around lovely that we were compelled to stay for several rounds. And the DJ was so cool. He played hip hop and R&B with some really killer mixes. At one point he even came over to me to say, "bet you never thought you'd hear me play Bjork!" It wasn't packed but it was bustling with a friendly and diverse group of Poughkeepsians (is that a word? Hudson Valleyites?). My husband made the brilliant observation that this bar would be the perfect bar to go to on Xmas night. IYKYK. So although there isn't a single thing I'd be able to eat from the menu and probably only one thing I'd drink (a really good Pinot Noir), I want to always come back here after dinner at Hudson & Packard and hell, I wouldn't even mind if everybody knew my name either.

Amazing. -Freezing cold in dining area- we needed to keep our coats on, c'mon! -Three burgers ordered yet it took exactly 30 minutes for them to come out. -No soap in the men's room, not even a dispenser that would have held soap. -Waitress didn't write anything down, and needed to come back and ask one of us what we ordered (probably why the burger doneness got mixed up). Overall, the place is a dump. We will not be back...ever.

5 STARS - We Absolutely LOVE Erin's Irish Pub…read more We LOVE Erin's Irish Pub. It's one of those rare places that feels welcoming every single time you walk in. The food is fantastic, and the daily specials are always creative, hearty, and delicious -- you can truly taste the care that goes into every dish. The dining room is so cute and cozy, perfect for a relaxed meal, and when the weather is warm, we love sitting outside. It's such a great spot to unwind, people-watch, and enjoy a drink. And we can't say enough about Cindy and Mike -- they are truly the best. Friendly, attentive, and they make you feel like family. If you want great food, great people, and a true neighborhood gem, Erin's Irish Pub is the place to be.

This restaurant came highly recommended but honestly I wasn't that impressed. We didn't have a…read morereservation and were told they could seat our party of 5 as long as we were done in 90 minutes which was fine. The server was attentive and easily accessible. A few of us were interested in the chicken sandwich special served Rueben style on Texas toast. I asked if I could order it but put it on a brioche bun instead I was told NO. All of the other sandwiches came on a brioche bun so I figured it wasn't a big deal but I really got a hard NO from the server. Another special was fish tacos. It was disappointing in taste, quality, and presentation. It was flat breaded fish filets on mini tortillas with some iceberg lettuce and a bit of pico. We asked for a sauce or hot sauce and were handed a bottle of of Tabasco. The other fish sandwiches were mediocre and definitely not homemade. Even the fries were frozen and not crispy. I guess I expected better for the steep prices.

Had this bookmarked for our trip because of all of the rave reviews. We stopped in for dinner…read moreSaturday March 21 and there was barely anyone requiring service. After we walked in one of the waitresses informed us that we can sit wherever we want. I instantly felt like I was inconveniencing her with my presence by the way she said it. Didn't take it personal just yet. What appeared to be the hostess came over a few minutes after we sat down and handed us menus that were very dirty. I looked at my husband and said I am ready to walk out of this place bc I am starving and it looks like they are too short staffed right now which is understandably out of a businesses control sometimes. But wait, instead of the waitress coming to our table to bring water or ask us if we would like a drink, she went to another table with a man and a child that she obviously knew well, and started eating their french fries and talking. That's when we decided to leave and spend our money elsewhere. So unprofessional. That couldn't wait? I hate to leave a review like this, but if I was the owner of this business, I would not want someone like that working for me, representing what seems to be a great place.

They have a short tap list on a chalk board over the bar area but a massive bottle and can list. Truly a beer enthusiast paradise. Prices vary but pretty much run $6-$9 per beer. Definitely my new go to. Signed, The Happy Hour Huntress
