We came to this location because the owner is a CIA alumnus where we both went to school. I'm super excited to try the lobster roll and we were really impressed with the beer selection. Wings were solid and done extra crispy as I like. Though they were meatier wings so you couldn't get them so so crispy as I like with the places that sell smaller wings. Anyway the bartender was very nice and friendly to everyone (maybe too friendly for some folks liking) but on a cold winter day - I came along just to get out of the house for an hour - it was a nice gesture. Come here on Thursdays to get their 50 cent wings! This should be the only thing you get along with their peach green tea or a sweet tea! I opted for their Apollo Creed, which was a fried chicken sandwich with spicy chiptole sauce, lettuce, tomato on a bun. The fried chicken was sadly too oily for me, and the breading separated from the chicken. It was a messy sandwich and had to resort to a knife and fork. The waitress was very nice and worked the outside tented area herself. The vibe was really relaxed, but at 12 noon on a Thursday during spring break, this place was popping! Inside was rammed with people, so next time I would like to try to experience eating inside. This is a great little pub with a nice outdoor patio that we typically visit after walking the railroad bridge. A nice informal friendly place with awesome food. We were greeted right away when we came in. I wasn't expecting the creative food options at first when we looked at the menu. We ordered 3 appetizers for the two of us, and that was just the right amount. We had the Roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon, shiitake mushroom potstickers, and pieroges with the topping of the week (salami, olives and shaved parmesan). Everything was excellent but the Brussels sprouts were over the top amazing. The best roasted Brussels sprouts I've ever had. So flavorful. A sweet and savory glaze and lots of crumbled bacon. To drink I had a hard cider in a nice frosty glass- i got the blackberry flavor, sweet like I like it. I liked that they had a variety of ciders in addition to a nice selection of beers. My wife and I were looking for a 'dive bar' and saw a review for Tavern23 claiming to be one with good food. We were sold and made our way. Apparently, it was Bingo night and the place was lively. We were seated at a large high top with 2 other people on the other end. Community style, which I've become a fan of more and more. One of the bartenders was our server and she was busy. I must say the bartenders worked well together. As a long time bartender, I get it. Sometimes you just can't get from behind the bar. The beers were cold. Can't remember what I ordered, but clean glass and cold beer, so no issues. The food was typical pub style and quality. Liked the pretzels a lot. Nothing was too salty, which can be an issue with pubs. Overall, a typical successful drive ending with a field goal. Points on the board never disappoints. read more

My guy ordered the Monday Prime Rib special with Au jus complete with baked potato, butter & sour cream available, vegetable (grilled asparagus) plus side salad $30. I got the Maestro salad which is gluten free with crispy chicken that was Flavorful and not greasy. Salad was big with chopped egg, grape tomatoes, avacado, bacon bits and blue cheese crumbles which my dinner companion put on his salad since he ordered blue cheese dressing. They have gluten free buns and wraps too! The music was old rock classics like the Four Tops, Beatles, CCR, etc.... This place is noisy but has a local charm. The wait staff is pleasant and fun. The inside consists of tall bar tables. There's multiple tv screens and tin alcohol signs on the walls. A few fish tanks behind the bar give you an alternate view. Great little hidden gem in Poughkeepsie. A bit hard to find, but the vibe here is like a really nice neighborhood pub/sports bar but with top notch food and reasonable prices! The inside is nice but I really love the outdoor space which is under some trees, so perfect in the hot weather. My Reuben was delicious and the slaw was house made and it showed. As for food, I ordered a bar pie with peppers and onions, my wife ordered scallops with risotto. The scallops and risotto was great. Unfortunately, the bar pie could use some help. I know, pizza is so objective. But in my opinion, this pie almost tasted like a frozen pizza. Again, blasphemy if you're a local, but JMO. I arrived in 15 minutes planning to have a drink but food was ready. I went home to eat and both burgers were more on the rare side. I ate the outer more cooked part and the fries. We drove to Poughkeepsie to see the Walkway Over the Hudson (scenic walking bridge) then as it was dinner time I tuned into my Yelp account to see what was near by for dinner and decided on Tavern 23. We arrived at about 5pm to this highly rated restaurant just below the walkway. We were lucky to find a parking space where someone was leaving and entered a busy small bar with hightop tables and happy hour band playing. They played music we enjoyed, James Taylor, Neil Young etc.. Just what we like! From very pleasant staff I ordered sangria that was yummy, Mexican Street Corn as you can see from my photo was absolutely so good and a sandwich with roasted turkey, bacon & cheese with cranberry mayo on bread.
