Truffle Tots
Daniel G.

We came here for a friend's birthday and it was definitely worth the trip on the train. The truffle tots with a little melted cheese were dangerously addictive, and the chicken Caesar salad with everything bagel seasoning was delicious. They also have some very interesting cocktails and craft NY beers available. Part of it is inside a movie theater so you almost want to sneak into a showing after you eat! Definitely recommended if you're in Beacon for the day/weekend (and why wouldn't you, it's really nice up there!)

Enjoyed the vibe here, dark and cozy. It's literally attached to the movie theater next door which is cool. Service was great and let us just chill with our drinks. I had 2 cocktails, enjoyed both but the Winter Island def stood out more than the 34th Street. We ate just a snack, the Crispy Brussels, which was okay. They were tossed in honey, but it needed more salt or some other flavors to balance the sweetness. In terms of accessibility it's questionable mostly because I'm not sure where the bathrooms were. I suspect they might share the bathroom with the theater next door which requires one step up. I could be wrong though because I didn't use the bathroom, but I don't recall seeing them anywhere in the restaurant. Overall a nice experience

Food was great. Didn't realize there's also a movie theater in the building so that was petty cool. The service was good. & we love a good bathroom picture.

Spicy Margarita by James! Not too sweet and not too sour. Just perfect!

Margaritas are hard to make. Has to be a perfect balance of sweet and sour. James mastered the art. Respect!

Love this place. If you do one meal in Beacon, come here. Our group shared: Panzenella salad - so delicate and light Nashville Dumplings - pan sautéed, with chicken, and had slaw with a mustard dressing. Wagyu burger (no cheese). The burger came with truffle tots. So good!

Ketchay(?) . Something rice balls And tuna poke

Meh! Maybe they're short staffed too? People are coming in though? Service is good.., food not so much.., Tonight anyway

We love Beacon. We love how it's been fusing its history with shimmering pops of modern that have been going off with a bang in the last 20 or so years we've been coming to the area. And with that pop, comes good food with a nice bar scene. Located in Beacon's chic, don't-come-cheap Main St., Wonderbar was an excellent search for a light nosh and cocktails before heading down home. Wonderbar has elegant navy and black walls when you walk through their doors- with their showpiece bar centrally located in the back wall. I'm not sure if they take reservations, but we were seated without one on the Friday night after Thanksgiving. This isn't the type of place to get a Rum & Coke. Cocktails are well-crafted and whipped up nicely with a spin on some of the classics. I think Wonderbar's cocktail menu changes every so often- because even when I looked at a previous Yelp menu and was loving those cocktails, the menu we received on the night we came here was different. But anyhow. We were a bit dazed and confused when hubs asked for a cocktail made with Bulleit and they didn't have any on hand. Jack Daniels? None. But on the plus side though, my 'Moon Child' cocktail with REAL passion fruit mixed with good spirits had a nice subtle punch. While I'm at it- I cringe when bars advertise a cocktail has 'passion fruit' and when you taste the damn thing, it's NOT REAL Passion Fruit. So thank you Wonderbar for making your 'Moon Child' cocktail smart. Hubs' Up in Smoke' had a good TKO and so did our other cocktails. We sipped the night away. But don't sleep on the appetizers either. Hubs said his fried chicken on a bed of coleslaw and topped with pickled red onion was actually good. Wonderbar delivered the goods ok. I wish our Charcuterie board had a better presentation. I was appreciative that our server used plates instead of the board to separate the pork that I don't eat from the cheese- but the overall layout was weak and so was the cheese display. All in all, I like Wonderbar's feel and wouldn't mind returning for other menu items.

This is my favorite cocktail bar in the Hudson Valley! Cocktails change seasonally and are the most creative/balanced that I've had outside of NYC. They are all named after very obscure movie quotes, which is adorable considering the bar is attached to a movie theater. The decor is a modern take on art deco and is really stunning inside. Servers are attentive and kind. Food is decent, but sometimes hit or miss depending on what you get.

Great food and cocktails. And a lovely ambience connected to the awesome indie theater (the Angelika Film Center of the Hudson Valley). On nice weather days dine al fresco people watching in a prime spot right on Main St. The brunch menu has eclectic choices to go along with the usuals. All prepared with care obviously directed by a chef de cuisine who knows what he/she is doing. After your visit, a mere block away from the awesome whitewater falls and river. Enjoy!

Food was really really surprisingly good, although the restaurant had mixed reviews and upon entering was a bit nervous about the menu, the choices we made we excellent! Everything was tasty. Although the Nashville's Chicken Dumplings were super yummy the Carolina BBQ sauce I found wasn't needed and didn't add anything to the dish, they were superb without it and let me tell you about that Cole slaw OMG delicious, the pork buns could have used more meat than bun but my cousin enjoyed them. Yucca fries super crunchy and tomato sauce was very flavorful. The Birria Grilled Cheese 5 star alone and with the sauce 10 star! Overall give this place an 8.5 out of 10!

My husband and I have been to Wonderbar twice now and to say we are impressed with the cocktails is an understatement. They are some of the best cocktails we've had in this area- and not just one of them, we are slowly working our way through their creative and DELICIOUS cocktail menu and just about everything we tried so far has been SPOT ON. The cocktails are super balanced, tasty and most surprising of all the two whiskey cocktails I tried (which I usually do not like) were both so good I almost ordered one for myself!! We also tried the yucca bravas which are their only vegan appetizer option and they were in-credible. I wish the kitchen had more vegan offerings for me to try. They do have a rice bowl entree but looks like it would not be very filling as it seems to lack protein. The cocktails all have movie title names so they're long and somewhat hard to remember but we've tried 6 different ones and can't wait to come back to try more!!

Amazing experience. Wonderful food, ambience, drinks and people. The bartender Alex was just lovely great conversation the whole time. Food came out very quick and was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be back

Beneath the luminosity of the twinkling chandeliers, Wonder Bar in Beacon, NY brings back everything we've come to love about the Roaring 20s. This Hudson Valley speakeasy-styled bar offers up a craft cocktail and small bites menu that transports you back in time as you sip on your libation and snack on their culinary ventures. Their cocktails are whimsically named to fit the time period's most famous real life figures and pop culture characters. It's the perfect spot to grab a drink for any Beaconite especially if you're headed to a movie in the adjacently affixed Story Screen Theater.

But when I want to have an elevated experience with a nod to fine dining, this is my go-to. I always bring friends from out of town here and everyone is impressed. The bartenders make the best martinis and Manhattans you'll find, along with a seasonal cocktail menu that features something for everyone, including mocktails. When I don't want a full dining experience but the hubs and I have a babysitter, we like to sit at the bar for martinis and oysters - SO FRESH! If you don't do oysters, anything on the appetizers list is a wonderful light bite. I don't know what kind of magic the chef uses to make the salads but they are always simple, yet stunning. For dinner, the steak is hard to pass up if you eat red meat. I usually get the single serving NY strip, which is incredible. You can't go wrong. I'm excited to try the porterhouse for 2. My mollusk loving friend raved about the mussels and the fish selection is fantastic. I'm not a big dessert person, but splitting any of the desserts is a treat. Alternatively, the digestif selection doesn't disappoint. The bartenders and bar manager, Nick, are helpful in guiding your taste buds to the right choice. Bud, the owner, whose previous establishments can be read about in some respectfully placed articles around the restaurant, is always accommodating for the busiest place in town. It's nearly impossible to get a seat on Friday and Saturday nights from 6-9, but he will be honest and create a space at one of the little side bar areas if he can. The ambiance is sexy and sophisticated with a touch of whimsy. The toilet paper holder in the restroom always makes me smile (IYKYK). Having been to this restaurant many times, you'll start to see familiar faces as there is now a strong regular crowd. The community and connections that I've found while at Lyonshare have enhanced my experience of living in Beacon. Oh, last thing - brunch is a can't miss, must do culinary event.

We shared the Butter and Blue salad, really well done. The fusilli Ferretto with lamb ragu was one of the best meals I've had in months. The homemade pasta was al dente and the lamb ragu was fragrant and meaty and rich. Perfect on a particularly cold evening. Liz had the sea bass and raved about it. We shared a bottle of Madonna Dell Donno Barolo wine which was probably not the best choice for the sea bass but was an outstanding match for the lamb ragu. The cocktails and dessert were also perfectly done!

On a trip to Colorado, Kihlmire visited a shop that featured an abundance of books and records. He came up with an idea to open a similar shop that would also feature craft beer. Kihlmire initially opened The Vinyl Room by himself in Wappingers Falls. In addition to beer, records, and video games, customers could also enjoy pizza by ordering it through a special window that connected to the Wagon Wheel next door. Although the concept was well-received, the small space and constraints from the landlord limited the full potential of the business. In July 2021, it moved to a new space at 344 Main Street in Beacon. Customers could order food from Roma Nova across the street. Unfortunately, the space was still too small and the owners received numerous noise complaints from apartment tenants upstairs. In August 2023, The Vinyl Room moved down the street to 393 Main Street to their third (and hopefully forever) location. For the latest version of the business, childhood friend Kane Licari came on board as a partner. This also marks the first time that The Vinyl Room features a kitchen with their own food. The menu features burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, rice bowls, tacos, wings, and various bar bites. In addition to craft beer, the bar also serves wine, craft cocktails, and mocktails. I recently visited The Vinyl Room for lunch with my two sons while we were visiting Beacon. Any place that features craft beer, records, and classic arcade cabinets sounds like Heaven to someone like me. I really liked the whole vibe of the interior with the industrial design and all of the pop culture and music references. My sons and I grabbed a booth and looked over the menu. For food, I had the "Crunchy Chicken Bowl" (sushi rice, pickled onions, avocado, arugula, charred corn, chili garlic crunch, creamy garlic sauce), my older son had the "Grilled Cheese" (Vermont white cheddar, havarti, slow roasted onions, roasted garlic butter, sourdough), and my younger son had the "Return of The Mac" (smoked gouda Vermont cheddar cream, buttery breadcrumbs). We were all very happy with our choices! To drink, I had a draught pour of Upward Brewing's "Summer Camp" (Helles Lager). After finishing our delicious meal, I scrolled through the impressive record collection. Then we all headed downstairs to have a blast in the arcade. Before leaving, I enjoyed a pour of Equilibrium Brewery's "Tidal Balance" (Double IPA; collab w/ Sand City Brewing). We all had such a fun experience at The Vinyl Room and we hope to return in the future!

We went around 5pm, and saw the sign "Seat Yourself & Order At The Bar". Ok... So I asked a bartender for 2 menus, and found a booth. We decided quickly, and I made my way to the bar. Others were ahead of me, so I patiently waited to order: Tripple Smash Burger, Honey Buffalo Salad, Purple Rain (2), Diet Coke. I paid at the bar, served the drinks and waited for our food. The music was 80's MTV Themed {Pat Benatar, Bon Jovi, Bruuuce, Billy Idol}. Jenga, Horrible Couple and Cards Against Humanity were on the tables to pass the time. Or flip through the many records available for purchase until the food arrives. The salad was large in size and very good. Been a while since I had a burger, and this filled the void. Fries were not that hot, but we ate them anyway. Afterwards, we went downstairs and played some old school arcade games and then headed out. Upon leaving we saw someone was having a birthday party, which was nice to see. I'm sure in the summer this place gets packed. They also have a selection of draught beer (The proper way to spell it). Good choice for food, although it wasn't cheap. Bill w/tip was $100. I think having a server on staff for all hours would be a good decision for TVR to make, in order to TCB !

Generally speaking, the ambience is really nice. All of the staff was very nice and attentive. We did have a newer server who seemed a little bit nervous and less familiar with the menu than you might want, but she was very nice and we have no complaints about the actual service. We split a half bottle of wine, which was a nice option since we didn't want a full bottle. We started with the French baguette, the brussels sprouts, and the whipped ricotta. The brussels sprouts were delicious. They were perfectly cooked and I couldn't stop going back to them. The whipped ricotta was also really interesting and the flavors were amazing. What was really disappointing was the baguette. When I think baguette, I think crusty, hot, out of the oven. The texture of the baguette was weird because it almost had more of a pretzel like exterior that was chewy and not crispy. For mains, we had the crispy chicken sandwich and the cassoulet. The sandwich was kind of a letdown. The flavors were all nice, but there was no textural difference. The bun was a little too big for the sandwich, the avocado, and the other toppings, just all kind of mushed into each other. It was perfectly enjoyable, but just nothing to write home about. The cassoulet was very good. There was a nice depth of flavor and smokiness to the meat. Overall, no complaints. It did seem as though our mains probably sat under a heat lamp. My guess is that because we were still working on the appetizers they did not want us to feel rushed, but with this kind of meal and the price point, they should do a better job pacing, or they should just bring the food out when it comes out. I would rather have the fresh hot food out of the kitchen, than have it sitting under a heat lamp. Overall, the meal was lovely. There were a lot of really high points. There were also some disappointing parts of the meal. Given the price point and the feel of the round house, the few missteps hit a little bit harder. But we would absolutely come back again. It was an overall very nice experience and we enjoyed our ourselves.

Coughlin is a cinematographer by trade while Follansbee is a public school art teacher. In 2011, the couple were both living in the Wicker Park area of Chicago. When the Emporium Arcade bar opened in their neighborhood, they both fell in love with the concept of an arcade bar. They later moved to New York City and visited as many arcade bars as they could with the intent to one day open one of their own. By 2018, the couple relocated upstate to Beacon to start a family. It dawned on them that Beacon would be a great location to open a "barcade". The couple didn't just want to open a place for adults to chase the nostalgia of their childhood, but rather a place that the whole family could enjoy. After securing a location on Main Street, and after a short delay from the COVID-19 pandemic, Happy Valley Arcade Bar finally opened to the public. I recently visited Happy Valley with my two sons while we were visiting Beacon. I've loved arcade bars since the first time I visited a Barcade location in 2014. I love sipping on excellent craft beers while enjoying the classic arcade cabinets of my youth. I also appreciate it when arcade bars are family friendly, as both of my sons have also taken an interest in arcade games. We all enjoyed the interior of Happy Valley with all of the crazy colors and spaceship-themed decor on the walls. There was a decent selection of classic arcade cabinets as well as pinball machines, both of which kept my sons occupied for a while. In addition to a nice selection of craft beer on draught, the bar also offers wine, craft cocktails, non-alcoholic options, and various bar bites such as chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, and mac 'n' cheese bites. There were also plenty of seating options both inside and outside. We had already eaten lunch earlier, but I was definitely in the mood for some tasty brews while I played some games. I first enjoyed a Thin Man Brewery's "Pills Mafia" (German Pilsner) followed by an Old Glenham Brewery's "Weaver's Pale Ale" [on cask]. Both of them were flavorful and refreshing. We ended up staying for over an hour; it was nice bonding time for my sons and me. We will definitely stop in again the next time we're visiting Beacon!
