The view during apple blossom season is beautiful. The waitservice, not as much. One of our party informer our server of a need to avoid certain foods, and was assured of an order meeting those needs. It did not, and when so informed, the server offered only "Eat around it." The Ridge is a cute little spot with a pretty view of the surrounding hills and orchards. That being said, the food was merely ok, and criminally over priced for the quality you receive. I got the crispy chicken sandwich as a lunch item and it was $23. The chicken did not taste fresh... but a frozen chicken patty that was fried. The apple slaw on top was pretty good... but otherwise ridiculous to charge that much for an average sandwich I could get at any mom and pop shop at half the price. Decided to visit the ridge on a beautiful day because I know they have a nice patio. The patio did not disappoint. Walking through the restaurant was a little bit creepy with all of the taxidermy. I personally don't like that vibe. The menu is pretty limited. I got the tuna poke and a vegetarian bowl. Both completely lacked flavor. I asked for hot sauce and was brought Tabasco. I did not want to add vinegary hot sauce to my food. When my waitress came, I suggested they expand their selection of hot sauces. She said they have a bunch, including Cholula. We were not given any options. I thought it was just OK. The surface was acceptable, but not fantastic. I would love to see the menu expanded so there's something for everyone. The restaurant has an old farmhouse feel. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. Our cocktails were the perfect stater for ours lunch. We shared an appetizer of the Chicken liver pate with mini gerkins and pickled onions and it was flavorful. Our main meal came out in a timely manner. I had their smash burger and my wife had the turkey panini on sour dough bread. For dessert we shared a chocolate tort. It was a very nice experience. If you like the Millhouse you'll love The Ridge. I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews so I wasn't expecting anything special other than maybe a beautiful view. To my surprise the food was extra yummy and just perfect. My husband and I first tried the Ridge in early April, shortly after opening, and were very impressed by the food and the service. On that visit, we were seated in the back dining room and it was beautifully decorated and felt intimate. That night, we had the pork belly and deviled eggs apps. We really enjoyed the pork belly (so much that I ordered it again on our most recent visit) and while the deviled eggs were well seasoned and filled, the eggs themselves were ice-cold, maybe the only mis-step in an otherwise really good meal, because it's not pleasant to eat a firm, ice cold boiled egg. My husband had the rigatoni which was meaty and hearty, and I had the diver scallops, which were outstanding, so much so that I only have a blurry picture because I was too concerned with eating. The dish was so well seasoned and the scallops were perfectly cooked, and the combination of creamy barley and crispy bacon was perfection. Since I'm lactose intolerant, I couldn't eat most of the desserts, so we ordered the Parker House rolls for dessert. We left quite satisfied and glad that we found a new restaurant to add to our list for special occasions. Fast forward to our most recent visit on Saturday night. I originally planned to go to another restaurant to celebrate my birthday but then changed my mind based on The Ridge's online menu. My husband made a 6:30 reservation and we arrived on time. This is when it got slightly weird-the hostess seemed confused, asked for our phone number, then asked if someone had a birthday, to which we confirmed yes, it was my birthday. Apparently they had another reservation for a party of 2 under the same name as my husband, and they had asked them if they had a birthday (which they didn't). Ok? This time, we were seated in the main dining room to the right, which was still very intimate despite the size of the room. The restaurant was already packed, and we took a minute to look over the drink menu and I ordered a cocktail. Then the manager came over a few minutes later and took our food order. We decided on the pork belly app again, and I chose the duck entrée and my husband had the salmon. I finished my first cocktail and the appetizer finally showed up, after the waitress said "I don't know what's going on in the kitchen tonight." Well, clearly the restaurant was busy and the kitchen was backed up. The manager again came by and took my order for a 2nd drink, and then our entrees came out at 7:15. The duck was good, incredibly tender and falling apart, the refried red beans were fine, maybe needed more salt, and the mole was indeed bitter and paired well with the salty duck. It was a good dish, not great, but all of the components went well together. I just wish there was a bit more seasoning. My husband's salmon was good and well cooked, and flaky. Again, I couldn't eat most of the desserts, so we opted for the Parker House rolls again for "dessert," and my husband ordered a coffee, which was delivered without milk/cream. The waitress jokingly asked "you don't need cream, right? Because I'd have to go downstairs and around the back." Well, he did need cream, which someone else brought him. The check was delivered and clearly our waitress was busy, but service was inattentive in general. We left and my husband remarked why would they bother to confirm it was my birthday but then not do anything. I understand you can't put a candle in a plate of rolls, and I'm an adult so I don't need people to sing to me, but they didn't acknowledge it all. I distinctly remember them singing to someone on our first visit. Overall, the second visit wasn't as impressive as the first, definitely not on the service but shout out to the manager who stepped in, and the food was good, but it took a while to come out, and I liked my entrée, but wasn't wowed by it. Meh. No value. I guess my expectations were too high since we love the Mill House a lot. It is like they are trying too hard to be creative and different but does not stick the landing. Over priced, flavors all off, small portions. Service was great and lovely though. Lobster devil eggs, lobster did not add to the devil eggs. It was like eating devils egg and a bit of frozen lobster bits. Plus you only get 5 halves. I mean tell me you are trying to save money without telling me. Eggs should be even number halves, 4, 6, 8, etc. The smash burger and fries were the best thing. But not better than Smash Burger and twice the price. Everything else were fine, just way over priced and small portions. The fried Chickpea were okay, texture were great but again the taste were off too smokey... The mocktails, which was basically lemonade were $12 each... Overall takeaway, just too extra. Would not recommend as is. I hope they will get better, they are new after all. Last Saturday we had a terrific meal at Bistrot le Chat Barbu in Rosendale. Sunday was Isabela in Amenia. And this afternoon we crossed over the river to the newly launched The Ridge by Mill House. Sited atop hill, you are treated to an awe-inspiring view of the Shawangunk Mountain Ridge, which locals call The Gunks. It was previously occupied by the recently shuttered Gunk Haus in Clintondale. Even if the food wasn't exceptional, the view would be enough. As they are newly hatched, the lunch menu is a mini version of dinner until the new menu can be developed. We were seated by a window so we had front seats to a dramatic weatherfront that was approaching. Our lovely server was Phoenix, who took great care of us. We started with crispy fried lime and chile- infused chickpeas. We moved onto our entrees. I had the Turkey Panini and my husband Noble had the beer-battered fish sandwich. Both were exceptionally rendered. Noble had coffee (Monkey Joe) and an espresso. We shared the Chocolate Profiterole with coffee gelato studded with coffee nibs. Nirvana! Usually Noble has a tiny bite of dessert as he's not a sweets person. This time, however, it was a Battle of The Spoons as we polished off this heavenly confection. Every detail in the decor is spot-on. Kudos to the design team! Worth a trip...or two...or many...to Clintondale/Highland. You are in for a treat! read more

We had a fantastic experience sitting outside at the new outdoor bar. Our bartender, Kacey, was absolutely incredible--easily one of the best we've ever had. My wife ordered the margarita and said it was one of the best she's ever tasted. I had the chicken sandwich, which was excellent, and she went with the clams casino meal--both dishes were so good that we already know we'll be back. We had such a wonderful experience Let me tell you, we dine out A LOT. i have been in the restaurant industry for a long time and my ex has owned and opened numerous restaurants. While it isn't hard to wow us with delicious food in this area (there are amazing dining options in this area), you rarely find the attention to detail the owners have committed to The Ridge. The new interior is wow! takes me back to some of our favorite restaurants we've dined at in hunting areas in Virginia and up north. The decor is stunning, down to the wallpapers. We dined on oysters, clams, lobster, cerviche, and my partner enjoyed their tomahawk steak by himself! Albeit, i stole all the delicious vegetable offerings on the side. We also witnessed something that is so rare! The owners are around and hands on. The wonderfully kind manager at the front desk was so supportive and nurturing to new staff. The chef who is half owner, was delivering food and engaging with tables. The times I've stopped in for drinks- I've spoken with the brains behind the brew, Jaimie. You would think this man might be tired of answering rudimentary questions but he glows with a childlike sparkle and excitement speaking about his masterpieces. You'd never assume the amount of accolades he's earned by his humbleness. They've curated a short but well thought out wine menu as well as bringing over an extremely approachable beer selection. And WOW! the bourbon collection. We enjoyed some more common labels as well as some that we've never been able to get our hands on. Our server Vanessa was not only attentive and fun but so knowledgeable about their menu. The things you notice are how happy the staff is. The younger staff and staff that are clearly career servers/bartenders all looked so happy to be at work even though i'm sure they've been positively inundated with guests. it was very full when we arrived but the layout still provides an intimate experience with your dining party. Perhaps we are biased as we have both personally seen the cost of quality foods shoot up from local farms to large distributors- I can assure you- their prices are very fair. Sure, we couldn't afford to eat there nightly but when we get together- we both agree it'll be at the ridge from now on! (Maybe they forgot they are in the northeast) The food is nothing special except overpriced. The lobster deviled eggs literally are deviled eggs with lobster on top-it's weird. Liked the oxtail crepes, and salted caramel crème. You also cannot order appetizers separately from dinner. You must make your entire order all at the same time. Not impressed. We had a party of 7 at 6pm on a Friday night. When we arrived the restaurant was about half full. Long wait to order and the wait person was difficult and to find. We had water bottles on the table that were emptied into our glasses and taken away by a staff member. Several glasses were still empty. No bottles were returned. Again unable to find our wait person. When we did find the person they seemed annoyed by our requests. The food was ok. The dishes were over spiced and oddly flavored. It took away from the actual taste of the pasta and meat dishes. We ordered the artichokes appetizer it was greasy and the dipping sauce was awful. The lobster deviled eggs were ok. The date wrapped bacon seemed our favorite of the three. But only two of us liked them. The main courses; the pork chop which they liked, burgers which had an odd over powering taste, vodka rigatoni was overwhelmingly herbed, the steak was ok but nothing special. Four of us did not eat most of our meal. The waitress didn't inquire as to why we didn't eat nor didn't wanted to take it home. The views are amazing. I would suggest going for some Cocktails and an appetizer before you drop $300 -$400 on dinner. This may be a great spot for some. Honestly the food was ok but not to any of our liking. None of us will return. We are a family that eats out regularly. We have traveled the country and the world. Several of us have worked in the food and service industry. Wow! What a great start for a restaurant. Everything was five stars and I consider myself a foodie. I usually avoid restaurants during the first few weeks to allow them time to work out the kinks. However, my friends were going and I had already heard good things. So my husband and I decided to give it a try. I am so glad we did. First, service was excellent. We were welcomed right away and multiple staff made sure we were being taken care of. The bar space is a decent size and we had delicious craft cocktails while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. When seated, the service staff provided information and feedback on cocktails, food and wine. She also had recommendations which were very helpful. She was clearly not new to the service industry and knew how to manage a large group. We had multiple appetizers and some additions the chef sent out as a surprise. (Love that.) I had the scallops for dinner which were excellent. Other dishes included the oxtails, pork chop, chicken sandwich and the swordfish which was a big hit. The desserts were not to be missed. Last minute, we had to change venues for a baby shower. We emailed, and shortly after Kimberly responded and helped to get things set up! Kimberly and her crew were so quick to have everything set to go, and very accommodating for all of the last minute changes! I want to start by saying we live 5 minutes away, and have been waiting so patiently to come to your new establishment. We set date night for Saturday 3/29. We started off with a bunch of raw bar appetizers, Which were good. While waiting for our entrees, one of the owners came up to us asking if everythings ok, And who is driving. Weird because everything was fine, were relaxing enjoying eachothers company sipping my espresso martini, while my husband drinks tequila neat. The owners basically tried to cut my husband off of his 3rd tequila neat. (When he ordered his tequila neat they were basically given you a small shot in each glass, giving him 2 glasses at a time when they could of just put it in one glass. ) so basically the owner or the manager said we're only going to bring one small shot of tequila at a time instead of 2 . If that's how you pour no problem we're willing to pay. We did not cause a disturbance to your restaurant, we were quiet not loud. There was absolutely no reason to try and cut him off of his 3rd tequila. We should of denied our entrees and just paid what we ate and left. You ruined our whole night and we felt extremely uncomfortable after you came up to your table when we weren't even drunk and tried to scold us for drinking. We are grown adults in our late 30's. Unfortunately we will never be back and I work in the restaurant industry and I will be telling people about my experience there. Oysters were $4.50 a piece. Half lobster was $24 which was very good we ordered 2 of those. Scallops were $40 and I got 3. the entree itself was delicious, but a very small portion for $40. But on to the food, which was mostly disappointing. The beet salad was tasty, if a bit overdressed. The cavatelli was drowning in a salty, overpowering sauce. The vegetarian bowl was underwhelming. However, the bouillabaisse was good, although expensive. We were charged an extra $3 for a couple of pieces of extra toast for it. We had heard a lot of buzz surrounding The Ridge the last couple weeks so we decided to make a reservation for Sunday evening. You'd be shocked to know they've only been open a few weeks, the promptness and knowledge of the staff led us to believe they'd been open for a few years. Even with a full house, we were still greeted by our waitress shortly after we were sat. Her name escapes me but she was very sweet and was able to answer any questions we had about the menu. Our cocktails came out quickly and they were excellent. Even for someone like myself who has a hard time enjoying the taste of liquor, I thought the Desperado and the Honey Bee were an absolute 10/10. We decided to start with the swordfish skewer and after it arrived at the table I wish I had ordered 5 more because of how good it was. Cooked perfectly and light enough where it didn't stuff you for the entree. We decided to go with the dry aged steak for two for dinner. I rarely order a steak when I go out, but this alone makes me want to come back again. I've had dry aged steak in the past that just seemed too funky for my taste, but this was executed perfectly. Cooked perfectly, melt in your mouth tender, and the demi on the side was the cherry on top. And not to forget, the roasted potato's it came with were without question the best roasted potato's I've ever had; A perfect crispy outside but so pillowy on the inside. To cap the evening off, we got the Salted Caramel Pot De Crème. Reminded me of the custard in a crème brûlée without the obnoxious punch of sweetness to the face, and the biscoff cookie it was served with was a lovely touch. I do plan on returning very soon, the rest of the menu looks too good to not go back and try. And even if you aren't looking for a meal, I'd recommend posting up at the bar for a beer or cocktail.
