Stopped here after hiking at the Mohonk Preserve. It was recommended to me by my air bnb host. The menu is fairly simple but the food is good. It's right on the Main Street so very east to access anything in the surrounding area. The inside of the cafe was very smokey because they cook everything in a small space. Not a good latte. Got my order wrong first (wrong syrup) if I wasn't looking at the register-so that was fixed. Took a good 10min or more to get my order. They were busy but only about 6-7 drink orders ahead. They didn't put espresso in my drink. Had to go back and instead of remaking (which is what should have happened) she added what I can only assume was more espresso--still didn't taste right. Didn't have anymore of the syrup so more of something else was added (she did ask me first). Also for cripes sakes is it too hard to make hot drinks? Mine was lukewarm at best. They seemed really frazzled. They are nicely situated by the trail so I'm sure their business will be fine but I won't be going back. read more

Fantastic! I stopped in to get a matcha (what an amazingly scenic area by the way), and everyone was courteous and super helpful. The matcha was super on point, creamy, and balanced, there was no wait time, and I was rewarded with a picturesque outside area to walk around afterwards! A memory I will cherish forever! read more

A really nice coffee shop off the beaten path in New Paltz. They have a good menu with all your typical drinks with some seasonal specials. I highly recommend the amaretto and campfire specials. They served baked goods and food and both are fresh and tasty. It is a smaller space with limited seating. I personally love the back porch. It is a bit colder outside, but the view makes it worth it. Service is decently paced unless it's Uber busy, then it could be a bit slower, but it's not anything too extremely long. I had a coffee with lavender syrup and cream, and didn't try it before leaving but definitely should have asked for more cream in it as it tasted like really none was added. But other than that, the coffee was flavorful (hard for me to drink almost-black coffee but I did it!)... and really loved the option of lavender syrup. Service was quick and friendly! read more

We come here so much and it is such a nice place to go and get a snack. The cookies are always so soft and chewy and their drinks are amazing! They make the drinks so quick and they are so nice. (They stop making food at 1) There is a back porch area for eating as well as a bar both looking out into the mountains. Recommend!! read more

Great coffee shop spot in the area. Beautiful location. We stopped by for a quick cup of coffee before graying to the Mohonk preserve hiking trail. Looked like it is a family run business. It has an open kitchen, a small gift shop in one corner, then the register in the other corner. Service is quick, pricing is reasonable. We were not asked how we want our ordered coffee. Make sure you tell when you come by. Coffee is alright. Nothing really significant in my order. Hubby enjoyed his pumpkin spiced flavored. Not much sitting table inside. The eponymous drink containing caramel and vanilla was great. I'm always swayed by chalkboard specials, and while the special breakfast sandwich wasn't literally advertised in chalk, the ingredient list did hook me. Me, my wife and two friends arrived at New Paltz early in the morning today to hike in the Mohonk mountain preserve but we decided to stop at this place to first have some coffee. There was a long line inside but the service was quick, it seems most of the costumers are locals because most of them are greeting and talking to each other. The joint was clean, staff were nice. The pumpkin spice latte that I ordered tasted really well. I like the relaxed atmosphere inside and outside. I give four stars for the cleanliness, quick service, good vibe atmosphere of the place and the quality of the beverage that I tried from them. This seems the kind of place that I can be a regular costumer if I live in this area. read more

I visited the Mudd Puddle quite a few times during my undergrad years at New Paltz in my pre-Yelp days. Those grilled cheese sandwiches hit the spot and the Water Street Market was always one of my favorite spots in town. Antiquing, live music, art and seating outdoors make this just a wonderful​ spot to pass the time and enjoy life. You can fill up before hitting the Railtrail or take a break from your stroll down the river. The Mudd Puddle has it all, delicious food, solid coffee and drinks and ​dedicated staff. That hasn't changed in the years since I've last been. They've made a few updates of course, such as the register and to-go meals It is a bit confusing to pick up your order as it comes to different counters - I forgot that. I also love that their water cups were the same as the ones in Hasbrouck Dining Hall when I was a student at NP. Gave me a laugh for sure. read more

My only complaint was we were effectively bullied off the line because they only had food menus hanging right next to the register with small text. Locals who knew what they wanted already were eager to order. As we sat there, we heard more first time visitors asking if they had a food menu. Maybe add a chalk board that is more visible? We had a good midday break at Mudd Puddle Coffee Roasters. I found the BLT sandwich excellent, actually outstanding. Besides the B, L and T there was egg in it. Well toasted bread. Probably buttered bread added to the flavor. My companion had a panini, which both of us didn't like. There was a strange perhaps herbal taste to it. When we asked we were told that that was pesto. We know and like pesto. Disappointing sandwich and explanation. The coffee was good. Not amazing, but quite good. Delicious wraps in a cute setting. A little cramped and crowded, however. I ordered the tuna melt wrap and choose to sit outside. The food took a little longer tab expected to come out but everything is made fresh so I guess I shouldn't complain. It was delicious! Every sandwich comes with a choice of side and I appreciated their unique selections rather than the usual cole slaw/potato salad/pickle that most places offer. I got the cucumber dill salad. It was yummy and refreshing on the unusually hot September day. The coffee here is great, which is to be expected since they roast their own beans. Delish. After eating I wasn't sure if I should leave my plate or take it inside, since the outdoor tables were not only for this cafe. I've been here once before and the breakfast was great! Cute little place. Staff always is nice. Today I went in and I got an iced chai and my friend got the mud puddle latte. They both tasted amazing but I left alittle concerned. Both my friends stomachs hurt after we went here, right around the same time. Very unusual. We did not go anywhere before we came to the coffee shop ,we both just got lattes. We both went our separate ways with tummy aches. Could have been the milk in them. The drink didn't taste sour but maybe the milk was left out or something. Again we could be over reacting, but normally I don't get stomaches. Just very ironic! The only other complaint that I have is the there is NO air flow. Extremely hot , stuffy and uncomfortable. I would recommend eating outside on the deck if it is nice. Both times I've been I noticed it's very steamy. Yes they do cook practically in front of you. I think the should invest on some fans because you always leave smelling like the air in their. I love the chicken salad and they make one of my favorite combos for me: croissant, egg, swiss, and mustard. We have a commercial espresso machine at home and have tried coffee the world over and their Gunk Blend make a damn good espresso! Sometimes there have been issues, but the owners have always listened and remedied the situation. I have a lot of respect for that. Own it, work to fix it, move on. That's how you run a business! I'll go back anyway. If I had one complaint it is the 8:30am opening time. My meetings start at 8am and I need food :) HAHAHA! read more

Stopped on the way from NYC to the Adirondacks for breakfast and coffee to go. Second time visiting this establishment in a cute little shopping area. Timed it perfectly for minutes after opening. Very friendly teen working the register. Massive tea collection for those of you who enjoy as well as the full range of espresso and coffee beverages. Ordered some breakfast sandwiches that met our basic needs. Decent but nothing extraordinary. Definitely check these guys out if you are coming in or out of the gunks or tooling around town. Every time I visit New Paltz, I look for the best coffee in town. While there are certainly other spots to find coffee or an espresso, I think these are the most obvious choices: 1) Lagusta's Luscious 2) Hudson Coffee Traders 3) Mudd Puddle 4) Moxie Cup 5) Starbucks 6) Cafeteria Mudd Puddle clearly wins on location and ambiance. I love the crunchy vibe inside, and Water Street is a real gem. I also think the food is good, although it is notoriously slow coming out. If you're not up for spending an hour or two enjoying the scene here, you may be frustrated. Indoor seating is minimal, but if the weather is nice, the outdoor tables are quite lovely, and there is free wi-fi. Parking can be a bit of a challenge. Try driving all the way to the top of the lot, behind the stores. We've had the most luck finding a spot there. Mudd Puddle gets extra points for being the only place in town that roasts their own coffee, and I like some of the more trendy selections on their drink menu, but the results may be sketchy. I personally prefer the loose-leaf teas. read more

I was so impressed by our visit to Mudd Puddle. I live in N Jersey and we made a family day trip and decided New Paltz was the place to go. We have many good memories of this area and we never had been to Mudd Puddle. Our intent was to go to Karma but we were turned off when we went and saw their menu was listed without pricing. So we made our way to Mudd Puddle and loved the service and attention we got. The lattes were excellent, the bagels were a hit and the location was super cute with outdoor seating etc. Def will go back. read more

I've been coming here 18 years and experienced consistently great food, excellent coffee, tea, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate croissants, Delicious omelets, salads, 'The James Sandwich' is a winner, et al. The in-house roasted organic coffee is excellent - better than anything else I've found in the Hudson Valley; fresh and reasonably priced. This is a family business, Michelle and James run the place, and their daughter helps out. Servers are kind and helpful.Wonderful, hardworking, kind people and a down to earth atmosphere, with a commitment to providing New Paltz with a high quality, consistent watering hole. There is Indoor and outdoor seating, with a lovely back porch. My brother and his partner brought us here for an early weekend breakfast. To be honest, I think they were trying to take us elsewhere but that venue wasn't open yet (welcome to life with kids!) There was a cluster of folks waiting to order, and we were informed it would be a 20-25 minute wait for food, which to us was not a big deal. We snagged a larger patio table outside and basked in the sun as we waited. We found the service extremely friendly. The guy taking our drink orders, as well as the woman cashier taking our food orders, were very accommodating and patient especially since we were ordering for a large group and had allergy concerns. Food came out in the requisite time and really hit the spot. We enjoyed the turbo huevos wrap as well as the smoked salmon breakfast special. Coffee and lattes were also satisfying. I've always liked the Mudd Puddle, even though I'm not a huge fan of the little shopping strip it's in. It's a cozy place with delicious coffee that's roasted on the site. The owners are a very sweet married couple who clearly love their shop. If you were getting coffee or tea to stay, they'd let you pick out your own ceramic mug. I'm not sure if they still do that or not though. They also had/have a community sketch book, and a decent selection of books and board games. And their tea selection is very impressive. The outdoor seating on the patio is extremely pleasant with a great view. read more

If you're visiting New Paltz, Mudd Puddle is part of the Water Street Market, a funky, yet somewhat upscale, collection of small shops and art galleries. I was looking forward to sitting and/or strolling around with an ice coffee but got totally bummed out when my drink was given to me in a Styrofoam cup. C'mon! What's up with that? Even Dunkin' Dingbats gives you iced coffee in a plastic cup which you can then recycle. Mudd Puddle looks very inviting - outdoor seating that faces the water, comfy chairs, scrabble boards... but the Styrofoam just knocked me off balance. read more
