Love a picture-perfect latte, and this place delivers every time. The coffee is consistently good, and the brunch menu is just as impressive -- flavorful, beautifully presented, and always a treat.The egg dish on the dark toasted bread with melted cheese and chili oil was absolutely delicious -- rich, savory, and full of flavor with just the right kick. It felt elevated yet comforting, It's such a charming spot to stop in for a quality coffee and a great meal. My only wish is that they stayed open later. This is one of my favorite spots in Newburgh! Id describe it as an elevated Mexican cafe, that stays true to the Mexican flavors. The staff is always so kind. The place isn't too big but they now have outdoor seating and sometimes it can get too busy to where there is no where to sit. But the vibes and music of the place are 10/10. Love the new Downstate location! There's finally plenty of space to sit and enjoy your meal or grab something to go. Superb! Visiting from Brooklyn and this spot rivals any cafe/restaurant that could be found there. Service was perfect and the food and coffee were outstanding. I had the delicious vanilla koji masa latte and I know I won't stop thinking about it. We decided to stop here on our way to the city and so glad we did! Staff were super friendly. It's a small cafe - so not ideal for big groups but ok if solo or 2 people. Their menu all sounded so good but we went with the burrito + add chilaquiles (do it), and a few pastries. The burrito is HUGE - so really easy to share. We tried iced lattes and the Japanese Iced coffee to drink. Super flavorful espresso and the iced coffee was like a mellow cold brew. Highly recommend if you're in the area! read more

Loved discovering this gem in downtown Newburgh! Very clean space, the style is urban Mexico, and the coffee is fantastic. It really reminded me of my days in Baja California and Oaxaca. The syrups are self serve, water available, and very reasonable prices. They have decaf espresso (my midday choice), and my friend got their espresso tonic, and both are fantastic. Service was great, very professional, to the point of giving a slight chill but hard working, quick and effective. They have frequent visitor cards, which I definitely started one since I will be returning. read more

Downstate, a coffee shop on Lander St. in the heart of the city of Newburgh NY, is a yummy peek at the future of the Hudson Valley. The interior design manages to reveal itself as both industrial and welcoming in the way that the most progressive new eateries in NYC tend to be. The staff, Brandon, Erik and Brenda greeted me with a pre-warmed cup for what was very good coffee and topped it off with youthful, welcoming smiles. My food was also quite good and my overall take on this place was; inspired and inspiring. Not at all cheap, but that's the future. Came in for a latte, it took WAAAAAYYYY too long. By the time i ordered to having my coffee in hand it was 18 minutes. It wasn't particularly busy in there either, so I don't know why it took that long. The latte itself was good, but I just can't imagine stopping in for a place for a to-go latte and waiting that long. read more

This small cafe punches way, way above its weight class. Everything I've had here is superb, but the star of the show is the torta with chorizo. Honestly, I think the Downstate's breakfast torta with chorizo (accompanied by a coffee) is quite possibly the best breakfast in America. 11:47am. Two friends and I walk into this completely empty shop to get some lunch. First time for all of us. We want a dish from the limited (5 items) "lunch" menu. The cashier says sorry can't make you any of that until 12pm. We ask so can't order lunch til 12? Cashier rolls eyes and says "twelve-oh-one". That's fine we can wait 10 mins. We are super hungry, I ask are the ingredients for the lunch menu on a locked timer that opens at 12? We are told "can't place the order on the computer til 12". Ok see ya. So... if I told you I wanted a carnitas burrito you couldn't take my order and start working on it? By the time the three orders were done, it would've been past 12 and you could've rung us up. But instead you turned away three customers with pretentious business practices. Now we will never go there and we will tell everyone who mentions your business how terrible your service is. Risky for a small business. Keep this up and you won't be open for business in 2025. read more

There is an abundance of coffee shops within a square mile radius for a very small "downtown" area of maybe one or two blocks. Recently I decided to give them all a try to decide which could be a regular haunt. Stopped in on a Thursday and after a snarky in hospital exchange with a woman at the counter I felt unwelcome. I just can't get passed service without a smile and when laced with condescension and snark, this iced the cake. The coffee was good but meager for the size and expensive. I glanced at the cost of food and felt it was very expensive for grab and go morning and midday meals. It won't be my first choice. I recently visited Downstate in Newburgh, and I ordered the barbacoa quesabirria, which was incredibly flavorful. My husband went for the chorizo burrito, and it was just as delicious. We also tried a raja tamal, which was a great addition to our meal. To drink, we enjoyed a Mexican mocha and a cortado. There are breakfast and lunch items as well as some Italian items for purchase. My Prosciutto de Parma sandwich was fresh and came with a side salad. I also purchased a bag of chips and hot tea ( which they refilled for a second pot). Very nice restaurant with accommodating staff.

The space has an outdated feel, there was a noticeable musty odor, and the dining area didn't appear as clean as it could be, which took away from the experience. Another inconvenience is that they only accept cash. Although there is an ATM on-site, customers shouldn't have to withdraw cash just to pay for a meal. In today's world, offering debit and credit card payments--or other electronic payment options--is simply an expectation and would make the experience much more convenient. Overall, the food was okay, but the ambiance, cleanliness, and cash-only policy make it difficult for me to recommend or return.

Dominican-style salami, fried cheese, and fried eggs served alongside mangú. Mangú, is boiled, mashed plantains and originated in West Africa. Huge fan of the fried cheese, fried salami was okay, eggs basic but good, and the mangú I was a fan however it does not pack a ton of flavor in my opinion I also bought one Tequeno, which is a fried spear of wheat dough stuffed with semi-hard queso blanco. This is a popular snack in Venezuela. I was not a fan of this however as it was very tasteless. In my opinion it needed a dipping sauce of some sort. I was glad I tried the array of Dominican food however my girlfriend and I both agreed it wasn't our fav. Give it a try however as you may love it, and as you should be aware variety is the spice of life! As always people SYOY!!!
