Another gem! What a great experience here at Talavera. A modest storefront with excellent food and a huge heart. An interesting and deeply authentic menu, not a giant, lengthy menu but from what I can see, smell and taste each dish is made with high quality ingredients to your satisfaction. I got the Green Chilaquiles with eggs scrambled with chorizo and a small horchata. Fresh made chips, flavorful green sauce and the horchata was delicious. Make sure to patronize this special place, hosted by special folks. In a town where they inexplicably need to fly huge American flags to remind us we are in America, just go to Talavera and you will see who WE are. America please don't be frightened by differences, support your local citizens. read more

Worth a drive for authentic and fresh food! A little concern at the aesthetics of the space. There's a lot of things stored in the main entry area We were seated in the dining room which was clean and gave the feeling of being right at home The service was friendly and casual The food ahhmazing. Authentic menu offerings, and fresh beautiful dishes that were bursting with flavor! read more

I absolutely loved this restaurant! They have a lot of unique dishes that I don't always see on the menu. My husband and I started out with a pambazo and it did not disappoint! The chorizo was spiced perfectly. I ordered the adobo and my husband ordered the pipián. Both dishes tasted like my grandmother used to make. I'm a Mexican American who grew up in SoCal so I can be picky about my Mexican food. I don't live anywhere near here, but I'm currently coming back next time I'm in New Windsor. read more

Food and ambiance was amazing. A slice of Mexican heaven in upstate America. The steak tacos were fresh and tasty. The guacamole was made to order from scratch and truly authentic. We were served with class and they welcomed our family of 6 with kids. read more

Really good food! I've been here a few times. They have good selection as well. The food is authentic

We found this spot randomly on the map and drove almost an hour for it, unsure how the restaurant would be but omg, this place was worth the drive!!! The ambience has a true Mexican flare with ample seating. Service was absolutely amazing. The lady that assisted us was super sweet and knowledgeable (possibly the owner). Their homemade authentic Mexican guacamole was literally the best thing that I have eaten in quite some time! Their tamales and enchiladas were so delicious as well. read more

Stopped on my way home for some takeout dinner (for me and hubby). The place is ran by husband and wife team and the wife is so nice and friendly. We had small talk and she shared how they expanded and now have the space next door for dining. The room is nice and the tables are beautiful. She said they were hand made by them. We ordered steak and carnitas tacos and the chicken tinga burro (which is burrito). The tacos are large. Hubby had 4 and was full! And for me I was only able to eat half the burrito, leaving me with lunch today, yay! The red and green sauces were delicious and I'm so happy we stumbled upon this place again. We will def go back. read more

Great food, Alejendra was unbelievably sweet and personable. VEGAN OPTIONS!! :) The agua fresca was made to order and the best i ever had (mango and guava). if youre in the area, do yourself a favor and support this local gem. read more

We loved this delicious, family-run restaurant that has a warm feel and home cooked food. Our homemade chips and spicy guacamole were off the charts, as were our sopes and enchiladas. Not only is the feel so welcoming and the food delicious, but the most expensive menu item is $13.99. It is such an incredible meal for that price, and the portions are so generous that it's a no-brainer. I can't wait to eat it again tomorrow! Our server said she hasn't read the Yelp reviews in a while, so I told her that on a rainy day or when she wants cheering up, she has to check them out! She was really kind and thoughtful. 5 Stars!!!!! read more

A graduate-level course on not judging a book (restaurant) by its cover (entrance). If you're looking for grandiose ambiance, eye-pleasing decor, and average food, go somewhere else. If you care more about the food than the decoration, put your forking phone down and go to Talavera. You will not be disappointed. The proportions are typical "American Size" so you will not leave hungry. If you get the nachos, be prepared to take food home or come with an empty belly and a Joey Chestnut-sized appetite. Their food is freshly prepared to order, and the ingredients are fresh and flavorful as well. It's truly a family-owned and operated business, and you're quite likely to see the kids being helped with their homework, which to me is just an added bonus. You can eat here and know that when you do, the money is staying local, and not going to some giant corporate HQ hundreds of miles away. If you've read this far, why? Stop reading, get to eating! read more

Talavera Restaurant - Quesadilla with Al Pastore- Yummy! - Mexican Near Me - New Windsor, New York

Conflicted. I'd give the aqua fresca 5 stars (guava, yum), the enchiladas 3 stars, and the taco 1 star, so my overall review is "meh, ok. The enchiladas are good but the flavor hits in a way that I felt was almost too much, so I oscillated between enjoying it and disliking it... confusing. Generous portion and the beans are delicious. The taco was an absolute disaster. I am "flexitarian" which means I'm primarily vegetarian but make exceptions, especially for tacos. I wish I hadn't made this exception. Couldn't wait to take the first bite, until I quickly realized that this was some of the driest meat I've ever tasted. I mean like... Pulverized. Inedible. One bite was all I got. Since I'm not the only one that has mentioned this, beware. read more

Yummy, super authentic, family owned Mexican food. So authentic that the mom helping her daughter with her homework got up to start cooking after we placed our orders. Everything we had was very flavorful. I had the enchiladas with salsa verde. My husband had the torta and it was HUGE. Our friends raved about the sopes. Service was ok, but it was literally mom and teenage son as the "employees" so I'll forgive that we had empty waters for the majority of the meal because I like to support family businesses. Would definitely recommend and look forward to going back. Great prices as well. FYI, it's BYOB. read more

Authentic Mexican restaurant--all food are made from scratch. Even all the fruit juice are fresh made on the spot. Very clean and friendly. From outside it looks like small take-out restaurant, but once inside we were very surprise to find that it actually spacious. We ordered tacos, enchilladas & pollo milanese. All so delish + came in big portion. Such a hidden gem! Def. will comeback again if we are in the neighborhood. read more

Sopes. You have to get the sopes. All the portions are huge and the sauces are flavorful, and yeah the atmosphere isn't the coziest but you come here for the food, and this is way realer Mexican food than you can get almost anywhere else in upstate NY. I'm not kidding. Get the sopes. read more

We were near New Windsor and looking for a place to have dinner. I did a Yelp search and found Talavera, which had mostly five-star reviews. Thank you Yelp reviewers! This quintessential "hole-in-wall" restaurant, located in a small strip mall, serves authentic and tasty Mexican food. It's family owned and our hostess/server couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating. My wife and I asked for dishes that were without meat and also not fried. That's a challenge in a Mexican restaurant, but we got a delicious fish enchilada with mole sauce. Their guacamole comes blended--a first for me. They make fresh fruit aqua fresca (I had guava). They also have vegan options. It's inexpensive and just off Exit 17 on U.S. 87. read more

What an incredibly delicious meal. The restaurant is in an unassuming strip mall. We ordered the steak torta sandwich, pork adobo, and fried tortillas with Al pastor, carnitas, and steak. Everything was so darn good! The adobo sauce blew me away with the amount of flavor and perfect amount of spice. The pork was tender and I couldn't stop eating. My daughter inhaled her torta and my husband really enjoyed the fried tortillas. This was some of the most amazing Mexicnan food I have ever had. We highly recommend it! read more

I am from Mexico and my husband is from San Diego, we know the real deal when we taste it, and this is the real thing! Mole Poblano is excellent! The Sopes are out of this world great!!!! Chile rellenos are good, we've also had the fried quesadillas and they were fresh made with tons of cheese filled with either chorizo or mushrooms or tinga, the order of 3 was so big we shared and i still took some home, oh so good!!! My husband this last time order the Biscec al Albañil (skirt steak onions and cactus... don't be scared to tried it you won't regret it, think Fajitas only better with HAND MADE TORTILLAS)! And try their Aguas frescas! Water-juice with Pineapple or Mango! So refreshing and delicious!!!
