I've eaten here a number of times, and it's a solid 3 star. On the most recent visit the service was unusually slow, and the food was underwhelming. There is also the perennial complaint of cost - but a dinner for three that included two drinks, three appetizers (one of which was bread which at this price point should be complementary, and anther a tomato salad), and two entrees should not be $180. The steamed dumplings were reasonably tasty, but the wrapper was too thick and I question the addition of corn. The duck breast was generally under-seasoned and bland, and the skin had not been fully rendered out. The biggest disappointment was the tuna nori - the strongest flavor was an off putting fish taste. The accompanying rice (jasmine and not short grain?) and bok choy both tasted like they had been cooked in nothing but butter. The view is nice, but I don't plan on dining here often. read more

The views and atmosphere are very pretty, and those are probably the best parts about dining here. We shared Brussels sprouts, duck breast, lemon bucatini, and an earl grey Panna cotta. The Brussels sprouts had good flavor but were undercooked. The duck breast had portions that were very raw (which is fine for me, but worth mentioning), but otherwise was good. The pasta was tasty but extremely different from what I expected; I did not pick up any hints of lemon, and the dish had more of a smoky flavor. The earl grey Panna cotta was good, and it had a nice subtlety to the flavor. I got a glass of the "village blush" wine, which was shockingly sweet, especially compared to the pepperiness of the aroma. (Perhaps this is something that is well-known to wine enthusiasts, but it caught me by surprise.) read more

This is the best restaurant that I have been to all year! My boyfriend & I did an overnight Hudson Valley trip & went here for dinner. The setting is beautiful. Service impeccable. The food was delicious and the cocktail was top notch. I had the minted at the roundhouse-the definition of a crafted cocktail. For dinner I had the gemili pasta....the only thing wrong w/this dish is that I wanted more!. My boyfriend had the Mac and cheese with Cajun shrimp. I had a great experience here, the host and waiter was very nice and attentive. I dined alone, my food was fresh. I had an appetizer, entrée, a drink and dessert. I was very pleased with the presentation of each item. I was seated in the lounge area in middle of the room where I had a view of the waterfall as well as the fireplace, it's a dimly lit, can come off as romantic or a social space depending on the vibe you're looking for. Mother's day is typically a busier day and we knew that going in. We were seated as soon as we all arrived. I do feel that the host had a little bit of a chip on his shoulder. We were sat at the end of the outdoor patio close to the water, which was lovely. Our server was friendly, and as attentive as he could be. Our drinks and appetizers came out quickly. Then the entrees took forever!!!I Two of us ordered the steak sandwich and 2 of us had the avocado toast. I went to find our waiter to see what was going on. He was apologetic and had a manager come over to talk to us. Our food eventually came out and it was very good. The manager did right by us and it was much appreciated and handled very well. We've come to Beacon a number of times and decided to do an evening out at the round house. The inside is absolutely beautiful. We were seated right by the window and it has a lovely view. Generally speaking, the ambience is really nice. All of the staff was very nice and attentive. We did have a newer server who seemed a little bit nervous and less familiar with the menu than you might want, but she was very nice and we have no complaints about the actual service. We split a half bottle of wine, which was a nice option since we didn't want a full bottle. We started with the French baguette, the brussels sprouts, and the whipped ricotta. The brussels sprouts were delicious. They were perfectly cooked and I couldn't stop going back to them. The whipped ricotta was also really interesting and the flavors were amazing. What was really disappointing was the baguette. When I think baguette, I think crusty, hot, out of the oven. The texture of the baguette was weird because it almost had more of a pretzel like exterior that was chewy and not crispy. For mains, we had the crispy chicken sandwich and the cassoulet. The sandwich was kind of a letdown. The flavors were all nice, but there was no textural difference. The bun was a little too big for the sandwich, the avocado, and the other toppings, just all kind of mushed into each other. It was perfectly enjoyable, but just nothing to write home about. The cassoulet was very good. There was a nice depth of flavor and smokiness to the meat. Overall, no complaints. It did seem as though our mains probably sat under a heat lamp. My guess is that because we were still working on the appetizers they did not want us to feel rushed, but with this kind of meal and the price point, they should do a better job pacing, or they should just bring the food out when it comes out. I would rather have the fresh hot food out of the kitchen, than have it sitting under a heat lamp. Overall, the meal was lovely. There were a lot of really high points. There were also some disappointing parts of the meal. Given the price point and the feel of the round house, the few missteps hit a little bit harder. But we would absolutely come back again. Puzzling. We walked in for lunch on a Saturday (their website says that they don't take reservations for lunch, except Sunday brunch) and asked if we could be seated inside and they said no and it was a 15 minute wait for seating in the outside patio. We agreed and went over to the bar area to wait. When we got there, we can see the nice view of the waterfall from the patio area but we were wondering why there was a wait as we can see there were plenty of empty tables. Nevertheless, we ordered drinks at the bar and got seated maybe in around 10 minutes still not sure why it took that long. We had the Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwich and the Pan Roasted Duck Breast. The sandwich was not bad though the chicken patty itself was relatively thin. The tater tots that came with it were very good. The duck breast had a nice preparation though a little undercooked for the medium rare that we had requested. What was more puzzling was when we went inside to use the restroom (at the beginning and after our meal), we noticed that there were plenty of empty tables in the restaurant. When we asked a hostess walking by afterwards why we weren't able to be seated in the restaurant, she really didn't have an answer. read more

My wife and I decided to getaway to Cornwall south of Newburgh NY and she had made reservations at the Round house hotel's restaurant. The positives would be decent staff , beautiful views, and our waiter was good . The not so positive would be we felt rushed and we were in and out in 45 minutes. She had the shrimp dish which was good but close to being over cooked but nice flavor. I myself had the wagu sirloin and that's where I have the most problem steak was cooked medium rare so I was pleased with that but the 68 dollar wagu had so much gristle on it I felt I had left a quarter of the steak behind ! This restaurant has one of the most stunning locations in the Hudson Valley, but sadly the food doesn't match its environment. We should have know when the $10 Warm Baguette course was just a small baguette served with a ramekin of thoroughly average olive oil with a dap of pesto thrown in. One would think that a restaurant that has the bounty of the Hudson Valley available to it would provide amazing butter, but no. When we asked for butter, we were provided two foil wrapped chips - the kind that one is served in a fast casual joint. The burger was clearly a pre-formed patty from Sysco. Yuck. The pan fried oysters were limp and slightly chewy - not crisp and bracingly fresh like they should be for $25. All of this way below what the restaurant should be aspiring to. It's a shame because the setting is so magical. But maybe that's why they feel they don't need to aspire to more. read more

The ambiance was also industrial urban in the inside, elegant yet casual. The service was 10/10. Very attentive and helpful with suggestions regarding food. Started with corn ribs and dumplings. The dumplings were fresh and so delish, best I have had 10/10 . The corn ribs were good pricy for plate, 8/10. We split the open steak sandwich had Bri cheese and an onion jam. You could not really taste the onion jam. Either way They cooked steak to perfection - med well-yay. 10/10. Drinks: 10/10 . Hubs has a long island iced tea. Second visit here, first was 6 months ago. Not sure what the lower ratings were talking about but both of my visits were as expected at such a beautiful place. Arrived for an 8pm reservation, greeted upon entering, promptly seated. Server Brianna was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the baguette, the meatballs, brussel sprouts, the fluke and opera cake. Have been seated in both sections of the restaurant, equally beautiful and inviting. Come for the views, stay for the food, and have a cocktail or two at this really great spot in Beacon. Came here for dinner with about 6 people. Quite a the busy date night! Glad we had a reservation as they also had a private party as well. While it was dark out, the lit waterfall was really cool to see and aided the atmosphere quite well. Our server was quite lovely and made sure that our glasses of water and extra ice were never lagging. After the pear and blue cheese crostini, I had decision paralysis as the entrees had so many great options. They all called my name but I went with the herb roasted Atlantic Cod on their early spring menu was delicious. The cod was fresh and full of flavor paired quite well with the ratatouille with fingerlings. The chai creme brulee for dessert was such a highlight and a very unique take on a classic. A gorgeous location that had a wedding going on. The waterfalls are beautiful and the patio was hopping. The woman seating people is so rude and needs to be educated about service dogs. Yulio never let our water glasses go low. Ashley was warm and provided excellent service. The food was fresh. Meatballs came with three large meatballs and they were tender and flavorful. I haven't been to Roundhouse in a while, but when I went I left feeling lukewarm. I'll start off with the service. There were a lot of empty seats, but the host offered one of the tables without a view. When we left, a few of these seats were still unoccupied so it didn't appear that we weren't offered it due to reservations. The beauty of the restaurant are the large windows and view of the waterfall. The waiter came around a few time, but they weren't especially warm, upbeat or friendly. Now for the food- meals start at $20 and aren't exceptional. We enjoyed our burger & seafood dish but it seemed very run of the mill. The cocktails were decent as well. I'd say come here if you're in the area, but reserve a seat with a view of the waterfall. Be ready to spend money and not necessarily feel like it is 100% worth it. read more

My mom and her new husband wanted to go to the Roundhouse after their elopement ceremony. The location is undeniably beautiful and they had positive experiences here previously. They called for a reservation two weeks in advance and unfortunately could only get an 8 or 8:30pm reservation in order to be seated inside by the window. When we arrived, we were seated by the wall, which already put the newlyweds in a bad mood. If we were okay with this seating then we would have come earlier in the day anyways instead of waiting! The service was okay, but we ordered one round of drinks when we arrived and as it took a bit for the food to come out a few guests wanted a second drink. Unfortunately, no one came and asked us for our drink order after the initial visit at the start of the night. My mom did not enjoy her cocktail and was waiting for the opportunity to get a new one. The service throughout the evening was underwhelming, especially for a restaurant of this caliber. A few of us split the crab cakes as an appetizer and I thought it was quite good. If you are expecting coastal crab cakes here then it is better that you steer away from these. For me, though, this was not a hindrance. I personally ordered the Filet Mignon for dinner and thought the meat tasted great. The potatoes on the other hand were spread out thin on the plate so they were cold by the time they arrived and became crispy. Other guests at the table ordered the duck, salmon, and pasta. At the end of the evening, almost all of us ordered the Creme Brûlées and Irish Coffees. The Creme Brûlée was okay, not the best I've had, but nothing huge to complain about. The lemon financier was underwhelming and the dish should have done without it. Unfortunately this was among the worst Irish Coffees I've had. Overall, this place has so much potential. I'll concede that the cold food could be due to us having a big group. The food is on the right track but I think can be fine tuned for a more appetizing experience. The service needs to change though. Between not being seated specifically as requested weeks in advance, for a wedding no less, and not being checked in on by our server, this spot begins to lose its value for me. The stately brick building overlooking a gorgeous dam waterfall is beautifully appointed with all the extra touches. Welcoming foyer, huge lounge with a wood burning fireplace, cozy lighting and comfortable plush chairs. The dining room has wall to wall windows overlooking the romantically lit waterfall nearby. The service was impeccable. We had several appetizers, including the dumplings, mussels and croquettes, as well as some warm bread that was $10 but so soft, fluffy and perfectly salted, you could get away with two orders of bread and be so satisfied. My kids had a burger and pulled pork sandwich, which they both enjoyed. Huge portions and lots of delicious sauces on both. The duck was cooked perfectly with lots of sweet potato and a crispy skin. Our desserts were somewhat mediocre however, and mine was very cold in the middle which made it seem defrosted. If I were talking to management I'd say, rework the dessert offerings. $14 is a lot to charge for so-so premade cake. Otherwise a fantastic experience. read more

The salad we ordered was described as having strawberries, and there was exactly one strawberry sliced up in it. Prices are high. You're paying for the atmosphere, which is very nice. Maybe best to get a seat on the patio and have a drink (also expensive), and look for a better food option. Still, ambience is fabulous. read more

Walking into the Roundhouse, you can't help but stop and stare for a second at the view. The restaurant sits on the edge of what is essentially some white water rapids and is overlooked by a waterfall around 100 feet away. It was one of the most beautiful restaurants/bars I had ever been to. However I didn't have too much time to stop and smell the roses as I noticed a huge wedding party dressed to the nines trailing just behind me. I got a seat at the bar as quickly as possible as I know the chaos that is about to ensue. Sure enough, 5 minutes later it was me and 50+ wedding guests all haggling for a drink at the bar. I sat and scanned the menu and honestly, I dont know why I even look at a menu these days ahaha I know I'm just gonna fall back on a negroni anyways. It was just me, my negroni, and I with a prime time people watching setting. The superbowl of people watching: One girl making it known to everyone how great sober life is, one guy awkwardly trying to buy a girl he is clearly interested in a drink, a couple arguing about if they should go check on their kids really quick, a fun older couple (the only other 2 sitting at the bar), bartenders getting annoyed with a few of the more sauced customers, 2 single guys talking about the bridesmaids, etc. At this point, the negroni began to take me by the horns. This was one of the strongest negroni's I've ever had. The bitter Campari, sweet vermouth, and herbal gin all fused together to pack one hell of a punch that put me on my ass. I was planning on getting 2 because I was so interested in the live drama show happening all around me, but my one drink felt like 3 so it was time to throw in the towel and BOUNCE. They have a fantastic bar downstairs and it's crafted cocktails. The food and charcuterie boards were out of this world as well. You're definitely going out for a night on the town. We had this restaurant recommended to us by several friends so we decided to try it for our 6th wedding anniversary. We made a reservation and arrived early but they sat us right away by the window with a great view. The decor was very cool and well done. All of the wait staff were very kind and attentive. The food was pretty good, we both enjoyed our steaks which were cooked according to our requests and the mac and cheese. The chocolate dome for dessert was delicious and is a MUST TRY. Definitely a bit pricey but I would recommend going on a special occasion for sure. My only small complaint is they knew it was our anniversary and every other place we've been to usually does something nice as it's a special occasion even if it's just one dessert to share. read more

Never have I experienced such discrimination in my life. We arrived to Beacon excited to try Roundhouse despite the negative reviews. My brother has an epilepsy disorder and has a Seizure Alert Dog. When we arrived to inquire about a reservation, the man at the counter looked at us and said if we would like a seat we would have to leave our dog in the car. We explained she was a service animal to which he responded "There's no such thing, leave it in the car." We tried giving him the benefit of the doubt and came back later on to genuinely see what their service dog policy was. A woman greeted us at the counter and explained service dogs were welcome and lead us to our table. The man from before noticed us again and made a comment along the lines of "these people are back again why are we letting them in." We immediately decided to leave as we felt extremely uncomfortable. As we were leaving, a woman made a comment about our ethnicity and said "It's because they're Persian of course they're going to be rude." The same man started laughing. Never have we felt so embarrassed and discriminated against. We recommend management reconsider who they hire and whether they reflect their values. Such a shame. read more

I'm gluten free and had a nice dinner here on a Friday night in July. Outdoor seating was closed due to air quality issues, but the inside dining area still faced a lovely floor-to-ceiling view of the waterfall and streams. The Vegetable Spring Rolls were gluten free by default and very good. The rice wrapping was thick to hold the decent portion of veggies. We ordered the Burrata with the crostini on a separate plate. The cheese was excellent-- the inside spilled out when we split it in two. My boyfriend really loved the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, particularly calling out the bacon jam. And my Crispy Duck Salad was A+ (they held the shallots for GF). Service was a little slow. We didn't bring it up but heard the couple next to us talking about it. And I wish the server would've been more knowledgeable about what changes when you order a dish with the "make gluten free" option instead of running to ask the kitchen every time. But with two alcoholic bevs our bill was only $116, so decent price for the experience and quality overall. Would come back for sure! read more

A special shout out to the wait staff for their efficiency, friendliness and organization. The service was great. Thankfully, I had a server named ginell. She was super sweet, I came in for a quick drink and bite to eat. Mainly for a nice cocktail after a long day at work. I forgot the name of the cocktail, but it involved tequila, which was a $16 drink. Instead of the house tequila, I wanted Don Julio, and for that request, a $16 drink turned into a $50 drink. Who makes up these prices? Although I had the money, I wasn't going to pay that amount. Insane! The fish tacos were good, and the cappuccino was OK. Just went there with another couple to celebrate a great week. The food was amazing. Nearly had the place to ourselves. Morgan was superb. He was a gracious host and kept those drinks coming. The location near Main Street is convenient and the views of the roaring waters are spectacular. I enjoyed the rack of lamb and my wife enjoyed the ribs. The portions were massive.
