a bar with a lot of bottles

After a day of watching best friend Pots & Pans catch many bass and pickerel, we decided to hit Sal's, a place where he hadn't been in many years. My maiden trip. Sal and Pots reminisced about the good old days including the numerous annual "game dinners", legendary for serving 150+ where people were lined up down the block waiting to eat elk, bear, rattlesnake, muskrat, squirrel, skunk, and the like. Alas, those days are over, a victim of COVID and changing tastes. As for me, I've never eaten skunk. Nowadays, I just hang out with one. Enough chit chat. Menu, for a bar, is pretty diverse. "The Skunk" had said the burgers were excellent, so I ordered "the Cowboy" - bbq sauce, bacon, cheese, fried onions ... and crispy fries. "The Skunk" had the rib eye sandwich w a garden salad. We washed everything down with several $3 pints of bud. He raved about his sandwich; my burger was very fresh and perfectly cooked, served on a brioche bun. Fries were also nice and crispy. To top it off, there was Christa, our excellent server / beermonger. Prices reasonable, bathrooms clean, food very excellent, beer is cold - what more do you want in a local bar? Oh, yeah, "Let's go Mets!"

I drive by Sal's Place all the time and just thought it was a neighborhood bar. Which would be great if I lived closer to it. I work near Sal's and never thought of it as a place to get lunch. I order out 5 days a week for lunch. I noticed "ladies who lunch" going in several times. One day I stopped in and asked for a to go menu. My first impression was how nice and clean it was inside. This is not your average neighborhood bar. The next day I ordered the Cowboy Burger for lunch to go and I was amazed and how great it was. Cooked to perfection and seasoned so well. The fries were fresh cut and delicious!! Sal's Place is now on my rotation for weekly lunches! I can't wait to try the Ribeye Sandwich!!

Came here 2 nights in a row when we were in town. What a diverse crowd from one night to the next. Plenty of locals enjoying themselves. Simulcast Horse racing and betting are available as well as Keno. We had a Makers Neat and 2 Sam Adams Drafts for $18. Everyone was friendly and welcomed us to their local watering hole. We only stayed for a nightcap both nights and didn't try any food, but we did meet the off duty chef both nights. Interesting dude! Overall, a cute little bar in a cute little town. Enjoyed the music selection and conversations. Would definitely come back when in the area.

Stella on draft and I'm happy

They make great salads and pub food and they're very friendly, the only downside is they're a little pricey.

Best wings on earth. Honey mustard flavor are my favorite. Only 9 per order but you can barely finish. Also the best chili I've ever had.

On the weekends it turns on a late-night party scene filled with college students. It is lined up right in Main Street with other smaller restaurants and bars. This was one of my favorite cheap eateries in the town while I was in college. I have been here twice since for happy hour specials. I ordered the chicken wings and the shrimp tacos. The drinks were around $5 which is a steal compared to New York City prices. In the past they used to offer a large fishbowl drink for your birthday. It was huge and took several people to drink it. Currently it is the size of a large cup as you can see in the picture. It does the job but it is much smaller than what it was in 2010. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. I usually sit at the bar which is a great place to meet others and watch the game. Everyone usually comes in for drinks and a quick meal. There are large tables for families to come in and spread out. Everyone was nice here. I plan to come back soon and take advantage of the happy hour specials again.

I had marked Junior's as a place to go for a meal while planning our Northeast US trip. Don't remember why, assuming I must have read it in a 'best of Poughkeepsie' guide on some webpage. So when we finished our tour of the Vanderbilt mansion around lunchtime, we took the winding path to get here in 20 minutes (located about 5 miles Northeast of downtown Poughkeepsie). The interior was newer, and wasn't too crowded. One waitress/bartender was running front of house and was extremely helpful and friendly. It's a townie bar, where everyone seemed to know each other. Restaurants like these depend on the mercy of delivery, and found out after we ordered that two of our choices (Clams Casino and Buffalo Wings) were not available. Instead, my wife got the Fish & Chips ($20), with me getting the recommended Ribeye Melt ($21). Blue moon was on tap, so got that (way overpriced at $9 for 12 oz). The fish dish promised us 3 beer-battered cod loins, and it delivered. Each piece was large and had been expertly deep fried. The fries were thick and crisp, and the same ramekin of cole slaw was perfect. Even though none of it was homemade, for me, it was one of the best fish fries I've had in a while. My recommended Ribeye sandwich was great as well. I really liked the crunchy and solid ciabatta bread, and the meat and cheese was generous, and tender/melty respectively. The fries were good, expertly prepared, not too greasy. This is the kind of diner I like...where the food comes mostly pre-prepared, but it's clear they have a really good food supplier, and are able to keep the food prices down.

I asked for medium rare and they delivered. So good...probably the best thing on the menu. My only disappointment was cold fries. Several of the others at the table got cold fries as well. My hubby was disappointed with his jambalaya. Although it had an nice portion of shrimp the flavor was lacking. I know this place is new but I probably won't be back for a while.
