Cowboy Burger and Fries!
Tammy K. F.

I drive by Sal's Place all the time and just thought it was a neighborhood bar. Which would be great if I lived closer to it. I work near Sal's and never thought of it as a place to get lunch. I order out 5 days a week for lunch. I noticed "ladies who lunch" going in several times. One day I stopped in and asked for a to go menu. My first impression was how nice and clean it was inside. This is not your average neighborhood bar. The next day I ordered the Cowboy Burger for lunch to go and I was amazed and how great it was. Cooked to perfection and seasoned so well. The fries were fresh cut and delicious!! Sal's Place is now on my rotation for weekly lunches! I can't wait to try the Ribeye Sandwich!!

Came here 2 nights in a row when we were in town. What a diverse crowd from one night to the next. Plenty of locals enjoying themselves. Simulcast Horse racing and betting are available as well as Keno. We had a Makers Neat and 2 Sam Adams Drafts for $18. Everyone was friendly and welcomed us to their local watering hole. We only stayed for a nightcap both nights and didn't try any food, but we did meet the off duty chef both nights. Interesting dude! Overall, a cute little bar in a cute little town. Enjoyed the music selection and conversations. Would definitely come back when in the area.

Stella on draft and I'm happy

They make great salads and pub food and they're very friendly, the only downside is they're a little pricey.

Best wings on earth. Honey mustard flavor are my favorite. Only 9 per order but you can barely finish. Also the best chili I've ever had.

It is lined up right in Main Street with other smaller restaurants and bars. This was one of my favorite cheap eateries in the town while I was in college. I have been here twice since for happy hour specials. I ordered the chicken wings and the shrimp tacos. The drinks were around $5 which is a steal compared to New York City prices. In the past they used to offer a large fishbowl drink for your birthday. It was huge and took several people to drink it. Currently it is the size of a large cup as you can see in the picture. It does the job but it is much smaller than what it was in 2010. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. I usually sit at the bar which is a great place to meet others and watch the game. Everyone usually comes in for drinks and a quick meal. There are large tables for families to come in and spread out. Everyone was nice here. I plan to come back soon and take advantage of the happy hour specials again.

After we parked we saw Sideshow on the way and decided to check out the menu. It sounded very intriguing so we decided to go there instead. My only complaint is that I really wanted one of their specials, the Smoked Turkey Salad Sandwich, but they were sold out. I was very disappointed as I was really looking forward to the smoked Gouda, but I can't hold the fact that it was really popular against them. Instead I settled on the Golden Goddess Grilled Chicken Wrap and the Jalapeno Corn Chowder as a starter. I think the chowder was missing a little something flavor wise (not sure what), but it had a nice kick to it and I was satisfied with it overall. Loved the cornbread on the side. The sandwich was great and the crispy potato skin fries were hot, fresh and delicious. The rest of my family inhaled the smoked chicken wings with the Jalapeno Mango glaze as a starter. They must have been good as I barely got a taste. For a main course my other half had the Sliced Steak Sandwich and my kids chose the Sideshow Burger (with a side salad) and the Spicy Shrimp Orecchiette (pasta) special. My son wasn't crazy about the special sauce on the burger, but otherwise everyone was happy. Two of us had enough left overs for our lunch the next day. I was really happy with the size of the starters as they were a great addition to the meal, but not overly filling where you couldn't eat your main entree. The inside of the restaurant was smaller than I expected, but it had a pleasant atmosphere. I was happy about the fact that although they had TVs playing the World Cup in the background the TVs didn't overwhelm the space. We did notice the employees had to bring new supplies/food in through the front door to take to the kitchen repeatedly while we were there. They don't appear to have access directly into the kitchen from outside, which is a little odd. A limitation in the design I suppose. Our waitress was very friendly and pleasant. We ended our meal with a delicious Chocolate Chip Cookie Strudel. We will definitely be back again.

Good place to get good portioned, slightly elevated diner classics in a neighborhood bar setting…read more My wife and I came in for weekday lunch, and found it to be a good experience. I had marked Junior's as a place to go for a meal while planning our Northeast US trip. Don't remember why, assuming I must have read it in a 'best of Poughkeepsie' guide on some webpage. So when we finished our tour of the Vanderbilt mansion around lunchtime, we took the winding path to get here in 20 minutes (located about 5 miles Northeast of downtown Poughkeepsie). The interior was newer, and wasn't too crowded. One waitress/bartender was running front of house and was extremely helpful and friendly. It's a townie bar, where everyone seemed to know each other. Restaurants like these depend on the mercy of delivery, and found out after we ordered that two of our choices (Clams Casino and Buffalo Wings) were not available. Instead, my wife got the Fish & Chips ($20), with me getting the recommended Ribeye Melt ($21). Blue moon was on tap, so got that (way overpriced at $9 for 12 oz). The fish dish promised us 3 beer-battered cod loins, and it delivered. Each piece was large and had been expertly deep fried. The fries were thick and crisp, and the same ramekin of cole slaw was perfect. Even though none of it was homemade, for me, it was one of the best fish fries I've had in a while. My recommended Ribeye sandwich was great as well. I really liked the crunchy and solid ciabatta bread, and the meat and cheese was generous, and tender/melty respectively. The fries were good, expertly prepared, not too greasy. This is the kind of diner I like...where the food comes mostly pre-prepared, but it's clear they have a really good food supplier, and are able to keep the food prices down.
