Feels like I stepped into a bohemian bier hall. The wood floors and pints of different beers was exactly what I needed. The potatoes and kraut had a sour and sweet taste to them. It was amazing. This was the centerpiece of our trip to Fishkill and it didn't disappoint. We came for lunch on a dreary Saturday afternoon. I can't think of a cozier place I'd want to be. We ordered the popcorn chicken, the buffalo chicken sandwich, and the hot Nashville chicken sandwich, with a side of fries. The only downside was that the sauces were brought out in small containers so we did have to keep asking for more, and the hot Nashville chicken sandwich didn't have much aioli sauce on it at all. Pretty cool-looking Belgian restaurant. The bratoberfest sandwich was multi-layered and delicious. Many places get away with a simpler setup of bratwurst and pretzel bun, but they loaded up this one to make it memorable. My wife had a pierogi and kielbasa dish that had a thick wine-like sauce which was good for a few bites but was too heavy or one-note to finish it entirely. As a tapas portion it would be more manageable. Fries were good but not to the level of Maine's Duckfat (also Belgian). They were over-salted and reminded me of McDonald's fries in the taste. Stopped in again on one of our NY long weekends and once again enjoyed a delicious meal. We got the poutine for the first time and we will forever plan our meals around having room for that from now on. We randomly found The Dutchess while driving through Fishkill and we were pleasantly delighted with our choices for lunch. The other reviewers really nailed it. We ordered the smothered schnitzel which came with an amazing mushroom sauce and two huge fried pork cutlets. The best of the wurst came with three wursts on a bed of potatoes and sauerkraut and a homemade pretzel. We added a side of onion rings and draft beer on tap. Every October we go apple picking to celebrate my daughters' half birthday. Afterwards we go to Dutchess Biercafe and I have loved everything I've tried on the menu. The beer selection is fantastic! My favorites is the French Onion burger and the sausage and sauerkraut platter. I've tried many beers and every year our waiter has been super helpful in steering us on what we may like to drink. This year we brought a large group, friends of my seven year old and their families. I called earlier in the day to ask if they can accommodate our large group. They were amazing! My extreme burger craving led us out of our way to The Dutchess Biercafe. Although the operation was just a little bit confusing with the wait for the table, it was worth it. We were sat outside at a picnic table with an umbrella. It was nice in every way except one - The door to the kitchen was open & they were continuously smacking something so loud & so hard for the entire time we were eating. Thwack, thwack, thwack, thwack. It was honestly hilarious at first, but after a while it got a little annoying. I ordered the Angry Burger on a gluten-free bun & my partner ordered the Hot Nashville sandwich (made with Louisiana style fried chicken ... Geographically confusing, I know.) For the plot, for science, & for character development, he added cheeto dust & mac & cheese to his sandwich. We also ordered a side of shoestring fries & potato salad. At first, we ordered a large size, but our server was nice enough to let us know that a large size is usually good enough for 4-6 people. So we changed our order to a small. We also ordered root beers which were SO good. Everything was really tasty. Cravings were satisfied. My burger was great & the gluten-free bun had some structural integrity. My burger didn't fall apart. But then again, I did eat it in maybe 4 bites & in 45 seconds. It didn't have a chance to fall apart. Just a little annoyed, of course, that the GF bun was an extra $2. After reading the outstanding reviews and the photos, I realized that the Dutchess Biercafe is a must-stop, and it was. The name indicates it's a German restaurant, which is apparent--famous for the beers--or bier?! My family and I made this stop for my birthday back in July, and everything went very smoothly. We were seated inside upon entering. The restaurant has a nice interior all around and a nice feel. Our seats are in a decent spot, located near the bar and close to the window with an unused door. There is also additional seating outdoors with plenty of seats. Our waitress, Kerri, was great and attentive throughout the evening despite being busy. She answered our questions and was knowledgeable about the foods and drinks offered. Take advantage of the specials offered, many of which are on the list and will get someone going. We ordered the special, meatball parm eggrolls -- tasty and memorable in every way. I settled on the Mac Daddy burger with American cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, special sauce, and brioche bun. All of it was tasty, messy, and cooked top notched. The flavor says it all. Sadly, we were all too full to have dessert; that will be another time. Made a day trip to Fishkill farms for some cherry picking and stopped by Biercafe as it had some great Yelp reviews. It was pretty packed on a Saturday afternoon. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated. Spoke to the Waitress probably like a total of 3, maybe 4 times. It was hard to call the waitress regardless of the number of times I said excuse me, but it's fine it was busy, just annoyed that it was hard to order a 2nd time especially when the waitress visited the table next to us at least 5 times for the 2 times she came to our table. Plus the waitress wasn't bringing out the food, they had a runner and I had to ask the runner that I wanted to order more, which she then called the waitress. We got a couple sandwiches, the popcorn chicken, french onion soup and the poutine. All the burgers were mid. Edible, good I guess since I didn't try any other place in the area. The Bahn mi they serve is also not on baguette bread which was different and not in a good way. The French onion soup was not it either. I grew to love French onion soup after visiting Paris, but compared to anywhere in NYC that offers French onion soup, this is below expectations. Something they could do differently is have baguette bread on the side rather than already soaked and soggy in the soup. I also don't think it was baguette bread in the French onion soup. No thanks. We have stopped here for dinner several times on our way to Maine. Last night was one of those times. After checking in with the hostess and being offered an inside as well as outside table, we chose to sit inside. We were promptly greeted by our server, Ursula, have a construction truck there who turned out to be exceptional. We were happy to see that Mussels were still on the menu. Ursula told us the mussels were PEI and they had just gotten them! Once again I chose the classic style and my husband had the red curry mussels. Each were described as 1 1/4 lb and served with dinner rolls. We added a regular serving of pommes frites (fries) after Ursula said the regular size was made for two people. The mussels, dinner rolls and fries were all exceptional as they were the last time we stopped for dinner. We will be back in October and we will be choosing to dine here again. They have an extensive beer list and a great variety of menu items so if mussels are not your favorite you have plenty of other options. read more

I came here with my partner after a hike and I'm so happy I did! We arrived at around 2:30 so it was fairly empty, and we got seated right away. It was overall pretty spacious and clean. We were greeted right away by the server, she was super friendly and gave us a rundown on the specials. I took the bait and ordered one of their special burgers that included bratwurst and two patties. It was HEFTY. We also ordered the brussell sprouts salad, fries, and the bacon burger. The burgers were both so filling and delicious. Everything was cooked nicely and it came out fairly quickly. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely come back for casual hangouts. This was my first visit here, recommended by a friend, so we met there on a Friday night around 6 pm. Outside seating was pretty full and we had to be in Poughkeepsie by 7. Literally less than an hour to eat and be up north for an event. The inside wasn't too crowded, fun beer aesthetic, clean. We asked where it would be fastest to get food and they said both the bar and inside would be the same, so we grabbed a table. Our server was nice, I told her our time crunch, she was helpful, and we ordered quickly. My friend got the endive salad and chicken, and I ordered the angry burger, and we split fries. I was so surprised how quickly it all came. It was all fresh, delicious, well made, and it came FAST. Within ten minutes. Amazing. The strawberry Fruli. Apple/Lentil soup -very good. Pretzel- super soft and tasty. Jagersnitzel was very good but could have used something vinegary like red cabbage to cut the richness. My daughter and I stopped here for lunch after a morning of estate sale perusing. The Dutchess Bier Cafe is owned by the same people who own and operate Beast. Both establishments are excellent. We had the option to sit indoors or outside and we opted for outside being it was a gorgeous day. We asked if any of their beers were gluten free and sadly they were not, so my daughter had a cranberry lemonade seltzer and I ordered a glass of Rose. For our meals I ordered the light mussels and they were incredible! Very flavorful and no one flavor overpowered another. I ate the entire dish. My daughter ordered The best of the Wurst. She allowed me a bite of each of the wursts that came on her sizzling platter (like fajitas). The mustard was a house made citrus stone ground mustard and complimented the wursts nicely. Stopped in with the out-of-town girlfriend for a chat and snack. Location on Main Street is perfect street parking and the restaurant is set back from the road just enough to avail some privacy. We sat at the outdoor café table before we realize we needed to check in with the host The welcome was a bit Luke warm to be honest. It was between lunch and supper but still... Anyway, we were seated and Service warmed up quite a bit.Jaymi was our server and did pay attention to my food allergies. Thank you. My friend picked up the check, but I believe for the two dishes - brussels sprouts roasted with a maple syrup, pomegranate and pecan glaze and with one seltzer and a splash of cranberry was about $25 before the tip. There were a few other items on the menu that looked of interest, but I would overall say it's a great little place for a first date, chat with friends, and a beer aficionado's Paradise according to the menu. This Main Street location right is adorable and setback just far enough from the main road to offer some privacy from the traffic. They have about 10 patio tables set up with brightly colored umbrellas to create a sort of courtyard. TIPS: street parking only, but it is free. So you may have to walk a little bit: TIP: Check in inside before being seated. Initial welcome was lukewarm. It was about 3:30 pm when we got there and between luncheon supper, but the staff could've been a little bit more welcoming. This was a little bit of an outing with my good friend who I have not seen in over a year. I treated her and her husband too a hotel stay and she wanted to take me out for a bite as a thank you. One thing that was a bit of a turn off was the service cart being directly in front of the tables. That is a turn off. I moved it a bit out-of-the-way and got a bit of a side glance from the server when I told her why. I spent many decades in food service and can tell you that having a a service cart in view of dining customers is a turn off and definitely not necessary. I scooted it out of my field division and let the server know why. That did earn me a bit of the side eye. I'm not sure what turned the service around whether it was my taking notes for my review, but the experience definitely became more pleasant when she came back to take our order RECOMMENDATION: maple glazed, brussels sprouts with thick cut bacon, which is on the entrée menu. We ordered the hot Nashville chicken sandwiches -- the chicken itself was perfectly crispy and juicy, definitely well-prepared. That said, it wasn't nearly as spicy as we expected for a "hot" sandwich, so spice lovers might be a little underwhelmed. One thing that stood out (and not in a great way) -- the sandwich didn't come with fries or any sides. At $14 a pop, I was definitely hoping for at least a small portion of fries to round out the meal. The portion was decent, but it felt a bit incomplete without a side. Service was friendly and the vibe of the place was laid-back and welcoming. Came here for lunch during Mother's Day weekend when I was in the area with my parents and my brother. It was surprisingly not super busy here, even then, so we were lucky enough to be able to grab a table here without having to wait for too long. I got their vegetarian banh mi, which came with a housemade veggie patty, which was crispy and delicious. My mother enjoyed their classic mussels, and my brother and father enjoyed their respective burger choices. Portions were quite large here, so I ended up taking half of my sandwich home. The crunch from the bierkraut and the onion rings plus the German mustard on a pretzel bun is an amazing combination.
