Love this place. Food is fantastic and the waiter was super kind to our son. Definitely will be returning.

Let me start by saying I am southern born and I know NY is out of my element. I decided to try something different so I tried a local diner. The atmosphere was incredible, truly felt like an old time diner. That was the end of the experience unfortunately. Looking over the extensive menu I decided to go with a childhood favorite so I ordered the meatloaf sandwich. To drink I'm not a Pepsi fan so I ordered their lemonade. Bad decision, it was lemon flavored water. The plate showed up very eye appealing therefore NO pictures because they would deceive the flavors... the meatloaf was dry and very salty... before you ask I make a point to never salt before tasting. The gravy they gave me to dip my sandwich in was very salty as well and it had grandma's skin across the top, if you're southern you understand the reference...unfortunately it did not have a good flavor. The Cole-slaw and the pickle were good... basically I could not eat even a fourth actually less of the sandwich. I don't complain or send food back... I ordered it and they brought me exactly what I thought I wanted.... The waiter basically took my order... brought my food and my check... that was it... 1/7/26 - stopped in for lunch at about 1:05 PM. It wasn't busy at all considering it was lunch hour. The hostess brought us over to a table that needed cleaning and the floor under it, needed sweeping as well. We sat ourselves at the next table that was clean. I don't know how she could miss the mess on the floor. Our waiter took our orders - for me a medium rare burger with a side of onion rings. She ordered the deluxe burger; which comes with french fries and three onion rings, also medium rare. When they eventually came out, both burgers were beyond well done and cold!!! Then our waiter disappeared! I say waiter because I had to wait around for him to eventually be summoned from back in the kitchen by someone who didn't look old enough to be behind the bar. He looked at me like I was making it up. I cut the burger open and it was obvious it was overcooked! He asked if I wanted it replaced?! Sorry for the inconvenience, but it's not what I ordered! What do you think - was in my thought bubble. He never came by to refill the coffee, or ask how everything was? When the bill came, I was charged for the deluxe burger & for side of onion rings. What I ordered was a plain burger with a side of onion rings. The waiter "explained" that's how the computer figures it out. I mentioned to my lunch partner that the boss must be off, today. Everything seemed to be going downhill. It's rarely like that. It'll be a while before we go back, after that slap in the face. This wasn't our first and only meal there. Dined at Dutchess Diner, (first time since I was a kid). I ordered the patty melt and fries, and it was excellent! We loved the large chocolate sandwich cookies and linzer tart. The reason for the 4 stars was the service. Our waiter was very friendly, but forgot many things with my family's order. My mom ordered coffee with her dessert and they never came by with a refill for her. The Pepsi was not carbonated and even after they gave us a new one, it was still flat.( maybe something wrong with the machine?) I would come back, and hope for better service next time. read more

It's been awhile since I been here. The food is good. I had a deluxe cheeseburger which comes with 3 onion rings and fries. The tomato and lettuce was old and had an off taste. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare. It was huge and had good flavor. I wish it came out faster, we waited around 30 mins for our food to come out after we ordered it. Last time I went there I got some hot water for my tea and the inside of the metal container wasn't cleaned well so I asked for a new one and it was the same not cleaned well inside bottom YUK I won't be back it's gone so down hill I cannot recommend this diner anymore read more

I would never go to this diner ever again. The food was ok, but the coffee was terrible and cold. I asked for another cup at 830pm on a Saturday night I was told they dumped the pot and were not going to be making anymore. Terrible customer service. The Dutchess diner has been a generational family staple, with me being the last to enjoy this wonderful gem. What makes the Dutchess so special are the delightful and charming owners and their caring staff. As to food - Well it doesn't get much better than a simple ham and cheese omelette for breakfast, or a superb Greek salad with jumbo shrimp for dinner. OK guys. As we all know, a good diner is determined by its french fry. This review is not set in stone as I plan on going back to make my final decision on this place. The side of french fries portion was very very small even to the point where you can see the plate under the french fry. The french fries were undercooked, however acceptable. The side of gravy was absolutely delicious, even though it was too thick and a small portion as well. Now, avocado toast is a new popular breakfast item and it was not on the menu. Since I was craving this, i was contemplating whether to get a BLT with avocado or just get toast with added avocado and bacon. I did the second option. The presentation was weird and I had to end up making it myself by smashing the avocado. I ordered bacon, not bacon bits and we got charged for both. The egg dish was good, but how can you go wrong with that. Despite the weird food experience, the waitress was super nice so I give service a 5 and the ambience was a 5 as well. Took my son out for breakfast here. I don't recall the last time I came. Customer service was great from the hostess to the servers. Polite and attentive. I had a special, cinnamon pancakes with vanilla sauce. It was really good. My son had a chorizo omelet. The chorizo was a little bland. Not the usually crumbled spicy kind. Dutchess Diner is a solid eatery that we've been to a couple of times for late night grub after taking the long drive from New England to New York. No, it's not the best diner we've ever been to, but at 2 AM when you're craving an omelet, Dutchess does the job just fine. They do a respectable Matzoh Ball Soup, which is flavorful and meaty with a sizable matzoh ball floating in the middle, as well as an all you can eat salad bar setup that comes with your choice of entree. I've been known to hit the salad bar for sliced cucumbers and sliced cucumbers alone. The Hunter's Omelet is my usual, which comes with mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, and mozzarella, and my boyfriend digs the Roast Turkey sandwich, which is simply prepared but does the trick after a long drive. The service is generally pretty friendly and efficient, even with the waitstaff working long shifts at this 24/7 joint. Julia and Desiree have waited on us, and they are both great! The sausage was the highlight of the items, while I was not thrilled by the ham. We also got some okay French Fries on the side. Quantity: Good portions for all the items we ordered. Value: $3 for a Hot Chocolate. $9 for the Mozzarella Sticks. $11 for the Dynamic Duo. $3.50 for a Small French Fries. Ambiance: Dutchess Diner is a local diner a little south of Poughkeepsie in Upstate New York. It sits across the street from a mall and massive store complex, which definitely pulls in some hungry shoppers. It looks like a typical slightly dated diner from the outside. A lot of metal and tons of windows on each side. Inside it is booths and tables wrapping around the entire space with old jukeboxes at many of the tables. Extra barriers have been set-up between tables and they had many marked to keep empty. At the entrance they also seemed to have tables and chairs they removed from the space, or were potentially considering expanding outside. Crowd: It was about a ten-minute wait for a table. They had a constant flow going through, which even for a holiday was surprising on a Monday. Service: Extremely friendly waitress, but a little frantic because of the number of tables she was covering. Even with the reduction in tables, it seemed like they could use more staff. First of all, the place is totally run down, and it shows! The table was not even straight and it wobbled during the entire meal. The chairs are old and worn out, so they are extremely uncomfortable, since all of the padding is shot. Then, my husband and I both ordered items that came with fries, but we changed it to other side orders - I asked for rice pilaf and he asked for onion rings. But both meals still came with fries and then we had to wait FOREVER to get the stuff we actually ordered. By that time, the rest of the meal was cold, and we couldn't enjoy it together, as it was meant to be. I tasted the fries and they were absolutely disgusting ~ extremely processed, with that nasty coating that so many places are using now (even though they SUCK!) Bad 70's music played throughout the meal, and the place LOOKS like they never did anything to it since the 70's. Horrible, depressing place run by cheap idiots! We stopped in the diner on an early Saturday morning to have an affordable breakfast (that is what diners are known for affordable prices AND breakfast all day). We were greeted and seated promptly. The server came to take our drink (coffee/tea/juice) order and gave us time to decide on the menu. The food was OK; I had two eggs scrambled with toasts and OJ. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly, and the server stopped by our table many times to assist us. Im writing the eulogy for the Dutchess Diner.. may she rest in greases. Idk what happened here but I used to come and get salmon and fried portabello mushroom fries with awesome rice. Not the usual fare of a diner I know and I normally would NEVER think about getting such food at a diner but they had some chefs that knew what they were doing. I went recently to get a diner usual, nothing fancy or off the charts but a normal panini with chcken, cheese, some greens and delicious sauces. Ya know, typical. How they managed to mess this up really blew me away. Im taking bites and it keeps tasting more and more like nothing. It goes from bland cheese to dry chicken to cardboard to air. Just air. I'm eating air. If only it didn't still have calories. Idk who the hell they have back in that kitchen of theirs but in certain an animal could whip up better food. The service is okay, you can tell some of the waiters try and be friendly and do the best they can while others are just college or after college kids hoping to any source out there that they can find a more decent job. Kinda gotta feel bad for them. The only ppl who could actually enjoy this food are maybe those with dentures or ppl who no longer have working taste buds. (Bow ties were mush... Probably sitting in the soup since yesterday) :-/ and half of a tuna sandwich... She didn't like the tuna at all. I ordered a Reuben with sweet potato fries... I've gone here a few times for lunch meetings with a group of men from my local church for business meetings. The lunches were semi-decent but we had a breakfast meeting and the breakfast was absolutely terrible. They served these huge sandwich size sausages, though I expected small breakfast sausage links. And the french toast made Denny's frozen french toast seem gourmet. Service is good but the food is terrible. I tolerate the little bit of food I order because this place is convenient for our church group to meet but I've been vocal about it's quality. read more

Great place to bring mom, kids, grandma, or an after movie light supper. Tip: do not leave without a pastry.
