We had the best brunch at Buttermilk! Everything was delicious and the service was amazing. It was super friendly, fast, and really attentive. We ordered the banana French toast, chicken and waffles, margharita pizza, burger, and of course some drinks! The mimosas and margaritas were a hit! The food came out quickly and everything tasted incredible. For dessert, we had an awesome mix from sorbet, cheesecake and the standout was definitely the crème brûlée. So good! After brunch, we walked around the grounds which are absolutely beautiful. We saw peacocks, chickens, llamas, and took in the amazing views of the Hudson River. Such a peaceful and fun spot. Can't wait to come back and try the spa next time.

We had a wonderful stay at the Buttermilk Falls Inn + Spa. The fireplace in our original room was not working and needed to be repaired so we were placed in the Grand Laurel Master Suite (bridal suite). The room is HUGE and the shower has a built in steam room! The rooms are pricey (at the time of this writing - the Grand Laurel Master Suite was priced at anywhere between $435 and $775 per night). We ended up using our Hotels.com reward towards our room (it was before Hotels.com nerfed their rewards program - so we were able to apply a sizable amount towards the room to bring down the cost). Breakfast was delicious, there was fruit, muffins, bagels, and you can choose an entree (scrambled eggs, frittata, or waffle). The menu rotates based on what's in season. It's nice walking around the Buttermilk Falls grounds, there are donkeys, chickens, ducks, and peacocks. The ducks can be a little aggressive and hiss at you, best not to walk directly towards the ducks or make direct eye contact with the Alpha Duck (you'll know the Alpha Duck because he's the one that wants to fight you). There's also cool graveyard on the grounds that's not marked on the map. Some of the graves are from the Revolutionary War, so just keep in mind a lot of the stuff on the property is old. Yes, from what other reviewers have said, it could benefit from some touch up paint and new carpeting in the stairwell area, but overall this inn has great history and character. It was a quiet and peaceful getaway for us, as long as you're managing your expectations (it's not the Ritz Carlton) you will enjoy your stay here.

I visited Buttermilk Falls Inn looking for a place to propose to my now fiancé. Not only was a blown away by the amazing scenery, but the people there could not have been more of a joy to meet and work with. Everyone we met with was more than willing to work with us to plan a spectacular day that truly ended up being special. Kelly worked most directly with us and went beyond all of our expectations and truly did an unbelievable job. Amazing day and amazing people all around. I have been telling everyone about Buttermilk falls and the pictures speak for themselves!

So pretty. A historical inn so rooms are small and outdated. They do have cottages that are fantastic. And what could be better than an animal sanctuary and spa over looking the water just under an hour from manhattan.

Decor run down and falling apart.

Overpriced, Property in Disrepair, Rude Management, No Peace, and Fraudulent Business Practices. I literally checked out early eating the daily rate to leave. Let's dig in. Fraudulent Business Practices: I was recommended this property from a former colleague, who used to go up to this property once a year on his birthday. He told me all about the inn, the spa, pool, everything. That was probably in 2019. Then COVID happened and then life happened. So, for years, I wanted to go and finally found the right time to go with my sister. I booked not knowing that there would be a construction site right next to our room, trucks going by constantly, hammering, banging. The room I booked specifically had the word "peaceful" twice in the description. Also, the pool, steam shower, and sauna were all closed, though I didn't see any of that information from the main page through booking. When I received my spa confirmation week of our reservation, I saw in bold text at the top of the email that the pool, steam room, and sauna were all closed. Emailed expressing my disappointment asking for some discount given this wasn't what I expected. They responded that it was included in my confirmation email. Yes, that is true, but allllll the way at the bottom under the terms section. Also, no mention of construction next to our room. Plus, I shouldn't be made aware after spending money, but before. Explained this. Then, they mentioned that it was listed on an about page (category to be clicked off of main page), but why would I go to the about page if I had information from a friend? Also, wouldn't you put that information on the main page to be up front? Or maybe anywhere throughout the entire booking process? No, they didn't. Instead they blamed me, the guest. Luxury "resort"? I don't think so. For the record, the assistant GM, Camile did offer to let me cancel day of but my sister and I had already taken PTO and she was on her way, so not really a viable solution. They also offered an upgrade when I arrived but I reminded them that I was traveling with my pet (why I booked the pet friendly room). Thus, they couldn't move us. The simple fact was, they could have solved this with a voucher on dinner, a bottle of wine, anything up front. But instead, they doubled down on shady business practices. So, I filed a complaint with the BBB. Businesses who operate this way should be held to consequences. While ultimately, this business continued to do nothing to resolve, I hope it serves as a warning to others. The room: The bed was nice and comfy but overall, the room was dark, save for the bathroom with the skylight. Walking up the stairs to the property, everything was rusted and falling apart. Inside, the decor was mostly old and in need of repair. While almost every hotel I stay in now has a smart TV, this one has cable channels only and was very small. Considering I paid $712 for 2 nights, certainly not the "luxury" experience as described. I'd maybe pay $250 a night for this room. The spa: Enjoyed my CBD massage. It was fantastic. A+ The scrub was a bit lighter than I would have wanted, but the woman doing it was so lovely and accommodating. The view of the Hudson outside of the spa was also nice. The property: It is very pretty with flowers, willow trees, ponds, views of the Hudson. Ducks everywhere. My sister fed the ducks from her hand. There is also pigs, chickens, and peacocks. Pet Program: They mention dog beds, dog bowls, and toys in the room. None of that was provided. The breakfast: The highlight of the whole thing. It was delicious and the staff here were so lovely. That breakfast was the luxury service that needed to be applied everywhere else. Spot on. Cheering on chef. Buttermilk Falls: We walked down to see it but nothing like the photo. Not really worth seeing. That said, there is a train track down there and it is very cool to see the trains roll by. Henry's Restaurant: The service was A+. The food? Mixed. Calamari was delicious. I got a burger that was burnt (even though I asked for medium) as was the bun. The truffle frites were flacid and dripping in oil. My sister got the short rib and she loved it. I'd recommend Crew Restaurant in Poughkeepsie. That place was amazing. Overall: Thumbs down but that breakfast crew is

The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The common areas welcome you to sit in the sunroom, by the fire, or in a private outdoor nook to read, have a drink, or watch a thunderstorm or some softly falling snow. Tea, water, Nespresso, and coffee are always available along with some delectable baked delight. Nancy is always full of great ideas for things to do and places to eat. A walk or bike on the nearby rail trail to the river is always beautiful. This is our place to reset, recharge, and relax.

I say that in the most respectful way and only mean to say that I'm guessing the whole shebang would be next to nothing without her touch, her oversight and her attention to detail. The detail in the rooms, the perfection at breakfast, the lovingly manicured grounds, assorted wonderful nooks... at first I was wondering what there is to DO in Highland and, to be honest, I'm still not sure... but given the bike path, beautiful scenery and Inn At Twaalfkill, I'm not sure what else you need. I'm not always a fan of B and Bs... they can tend to be a little twee and you feel like you have to tiptoe around... partially because the walls in a good hotel are much thicker, the spaces less cramped, your anonymity more protected. There may be a bit of that tip-toeing here (the floors are pretty squeaky and you are worried that you are making too much noise for someone on a different sleeping schedule) but that is the only downside. We had just spent two nights in a pretty nice hotel in Beacon. The room was over 50% more expensive than here and, while large enough, there was not one square foot of horizontal space to put anything down in the bathroom.... The room at Inn at Twaalfill had so much guest-friendly space (especially in the bathroom), you would not likely have a use for all of it. If all B&Bs were this great and this price, I would never stay anywhere else.

As the summer was on its last legs and with a busy fall at work right around the corner, I wanted…read moreto get away. With a little luck, I managed to book a room for two nights during Labor Day weekend with only about a week's notice at the Botsford Briar. I found it on the internet, having never before been to Beacon, a little escape I had planned because of hiking, kayaking, the Dia: Beacon, the boat to tour Bannerman Castle, and Main Street were all within walking distance. I arrived quite early on Saturday via train and headed up to Main Street. I had a kayaking tour reservation and had planned to do that before checking in at Bostford Briar. However, when there was some miscommunication and the tour left without me, the folks at Mountain Top outdoor store called the proprietors of the Botsford Briar (yeah, it's that small of a town) to see if I could check in early. And all was well; they were happy to take me early. My room was ready and I headed over...and up the rather steep hill of High Street. Charlie met me halfway up the hill and insisted on taking my bag the rest of the way. The house is charming and looks just as it does on the website photo. Inside, it's filled with curiosities on the first floor. I met Shirley there too. Throughout my stay, she and Charlie were wonderful. They took the time to try to find an alternate kayaking solution for me, suggested restaurants, went to the trouble of having my breakfast ready quite early on my last morning there since I had to leave before the normal time, etc. I stayed in the Wisteria Room, which was lovely. The bed was comfy. There were a couple of chairs as well as a table with two dining chairs with bottles of water on a tray. In case it was needed, there was an AC unit. Lots of sunlight could come in through the generous windows (though you could pull curtains and shades too). Wifi was free. The TV wasn't a flat screen, but I didn't watch it so, who really cares? The room had wonderful charm and was clearly lovingly decorated. The bathroom was a private one down the hall. However, they've thoughtfully added a curtain one can pull to really make that whole wing private (so you don't feel odd walking to the bathroom in your pajamas; nobody can see you). I loved the claw foot tub and had a nice soak each night. It was a large bathroom with nice towels and was meticulously clean. I spent a good portion of both evenings watching the sunset on the beautiful shared deck out back. It's at the top of High Street and you can see down and across the Hudson River. It's beautiful and a wonderful quiet spot (or a place to chat with other guests, as I did the second evening). Also shared for the guests is a small room with a fridge, cupboard (thoughtfully stocked with glasses, wine glasses, corkscrews, etc.), and a single serving coffee maker for anything you wanted to make or store yourself. Breakfast was quite generous. There was one freshly baked (and still warm!) item each day along with other breads, a fantastic fruit plate, juice, and coffee. The only thing I would have added would have been a hard boiled egg or something so that I could get in a little protein. But with what was provided, I really wasn't lacking at all in nourishment. It's brought to your room at your chosen time on a tray. The location is great. It's easy walking distance to the train station, Dia: Beacon, boat launch, and Main Street. It's within walking distance of a trail head for hiking as well though you should know that it's a long hike in itself up Main Street to reach it. I'm so glad I came to Botsford Briar to get away. It's so clear how much love (and personal talent/handiwork) Charlie and Shirley have put into the place. And they really take pride in making it a wonderful retreat. I wouldn't be surprised if I found myself back there again when weary of the city.

This b&b is close to Main Street and the Dia which was a huge plus…read more The room was clean, bathroom not moldy. The decor of the room and the b&b are not my particular taste, cluttered, heavy fabrics, heavy wooded furniture. Taste is subjective though and I could imagine another person may enjoy. The air conditioner is positioned in such a way that it blows directly on the bed. I found sitting out on the deck to be noisier than we hoped for...can hear the train whistle and cars on a road in the distance. The morning breakfast spread had coffee, juice, pastries and fruit, none of which were of the best quality. I only met Charlie who was friendly and very helpful. I spoke to a woman who I believe is the owner by phone while booking and when we were likely to arrive after their 9pm time limit and our phone personalities did not mesh well.

The room itself is quite spacious, more than enough for two people, and it has all the amenities you would expect including a large comfortable bed, a TV, water heater, and supplies to make tea. Every morning, we were offered breakfast which was served in a ornately decorated dining room and consisted of a tasty fruit salad as well as freshly baked croissants, scrambled eggs, fresh orange juice, and coffee. This was delicious way to start off the day that we looked forward to everyday. The best part of our stay was getting to interact with the owners. After dining at Shadows on the Hudson, we were elated because we had a beautiful dining experience and were ready for the next day. Came here for dinner on a Friday night and the place was lively and busy. I loved how there were different vibes throughout the restaurant. There was the main dining room that over looked the water, where we dined, a more chill lounge type area as well as a private room - all stunning in their own right. Our server was Nico and he was great - giving us his honest recommendations - from my mocktail to my friends choice of port wine. I had the ginger mule mocktail which was 10/10. To eat, I opened for the classic Caesar salad with crispy chicken which was soooo good and the portion was absolutely massive. A bunch of my friends got the filet in addition to the salmon. We all loved our meals and were the last ones in the place - as the place closed relatively early for a Friday, at 9. All in all, we had a beautiful experience - I only wished it was day time for a view of the bridge - but we were lucky enough to see it next day for the wedding next door. Thanks to Shadows on the Hudson for an amazing dinner!

Once we were seated at the bar (always our preference), I noticed that both the bar and dining areas are beautifully appointed. The bar's lounge area was very welcoming and the chairs looked like we could stay there for hours. We just might when we come back!! Our bartender greeted us with a smile and menus - from there, we ordered a Juice Bomb (IPA), and the Martini Rinaldi (vodka-gin martini). Let's just say I'm ruined for martinis forever and will ALWAYS want this martini. It's a perfect martini ... and I will fight anyone who tries to convince me otherwise. As far as food goes, we shared the Zucchini & Eggplant Chips. SO much food for just an appetizer (highly encourage sharing). Really flavorful chips, served with smooth tzatziki (nicely done!). Husband had the Bourbon Burger (lunch special). Properly cooked burger (med rare), juicy burger, good flavor, great ratio of burger to sauces/toppings, not overly messy but just right, and the fries were double-fried so they had that perfect crunch quality. I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich (also a lunch special), and I have to say (again), the BEST chicken sandwich I've ever had. Beautifully crisped chicken, cabbage slaw, homemade pickles, chipotle mayo were perfectly flavored, seasoned, and balanced. It's like the perfect bite in an entire sandwich and doesn't leave your hands super messy. The sandwich is typically served with fries but I chose the house salad and it was a nice burst of freshness from a rich sandwich. That dressing is delish!! Overall... this was the kind of lunch that's WELL worth the 90 minute drive (because that's exactly what we did... haha). The Executive Chef (John Malone) is a talented individual and this place is a true Diamond on the Hudson. As a side note ... the real show-stopper is the views of the Hudson River. I couldn't get a proper picture - you'll just have to trust me. Can't wait to come back!!
