I'm from California and usually visit this restaurant at least 1 time per year. Costumer service is outstanding. Workers are all smiles. It definitely has an old school diner feel to it. I usually order the meat loaf or roasted turkey and apple dressing. Meals and desserts are served in large portions. As a big guy I'm full when I leave. My wife and I recently had breakfast here during the holidays and it was very busy, but our server Eduardo was the ultimate best server I have seen at this establishment. I think I have been there twice just because it is right infont of the mall. The food is not bad....acceptable for diner quality. However I ordered greasy food like chicken fingers and fries, hot wings and such. These food you can't really mess up because they are all frozen and all you have to do is deep fry them. I have never order omlets and sandwiches so I guess I can't really say how their cooking is. The service is good. The waitress was very nice and helpful. So we are on a hunt to try out all the diners in the Dutchess county area because we love diners and decided to check out this one and it is by far the worst one, food was meh and service was horrendous. After ordering all our meals, my dish came out with my main meal item missing and they had brought out hard boiled eggs by mistake instead of my sunny side up eggs. They apologize and said they'll come out with them soon. I also noticed for one of my rye toast has a bite on it already and was grossed out but didn't want to mention it, I just wanted them to focus on getting my eggs. Still though wtf? 20 minutes pass and they still didn't have the sunny side eggs ready, they apologize again but this is absurd they couldn't whip up a simple sunny side up egg that whole time plus the extra 20 minutes? I could've made 10 of those with that time... The waiter said they could do a scrambled egg for me immediately instead and I was so hungry at that point I agreed. No idea why that is that suddenly do-able as opposed to the sunny side up but whatever I just wanted any egg breakfast at this point. They finally came out with my sunny side up eggs and said oh they were able to make it after all. The bill came and they charged me extra for the two eggs... I had to complain for them to take it off but then noticed our coffee prices went up and the overall total price didn't change. I was so done at that point I paid and left and we are never coming back. What a horrible experience for mediocre food. read more

I have been visiting Wappingers Falls bi-annually for the past 17 years. I have frequented several other diners in the area and all have been pretty good. Last week was the first time I had visited Duchess Diner after having passed by it many, many times. It is also the last time I will be visiting Duchess Diner. We walked in around 3PM for a late lunch. There were seven of us and we were seated rather quickly as the diner was pretty empty. We sat for 15 minutes before I got up to say something to the manager. Five minutes later we were finally greeted by our server. She got six of our seven drinks. I had to walk over to the bar area to get mine after a ten minute wait. Our food order was a disaster. The food was not bad, just the fact that she brought out five of our entrees and the other two were not delivered until everyone else was finished eating. We actually had to flag down another waitress to bring this to her attention....ten minutes after the first five were delivered. I could understand if the diner had been full, but it wasn't even 30% capacity. I can only imagine what this place is like when it is busy. With competition like Red Line, Odyssey, The Ground Hog, Red Pepper and I-84 we will choose much more wisely next time. read more

What's a panini? Seriously - someone tell Dutchess Diner. A panini is many things, but it is not a grilled cheese sandwich with stuff thrown in it. I tried to order something that wasn't bathed in grease, so I ordered a chicken panini - which was a disturbingly greasy, buttery sandwich on white bread. Press that effer into a panini, guys. Seal those sides. It tasted fine, though it was a bit flavorless, and it took almost 30 minutes to arrive. There were plenty of open tables, so I'm not sure how busy they actually were. Our waitress appeared once to deliver food that can only be described as "inaccurate", and never reappeared. Eventually, we got our check from someone else. We hope you enjoy your $2 tip, waitress. It's one dollar for each time you helped us. After we got our check, we headed home pretty quickly for an epic bout with the toilet. No one survived. I spent the rest of the day in bed. I wouldn't call it food poisoning, but I would suggest that you blot the grease off of your food before you serve it. Just a little. That chicken cutlet could have been magical if it wasn't glistening with nausea. Dutchess Diner, you disappoint me. read more

I live in NJ, the land of diners, so I have much to compare it to. The food was fine for sure. The staff was pleasant, definitely. They were understaffed, things took awhile, but again, it was definitely good and on a Sunday morning, they held their own. If you are hungry and passing it, you will likely be happy but not "wowed". This is a very good diner again - the staff and owners work so hard to please. My family had breakfast there yesterday- I had the " Ireland Omelette " which was exceptional. Our first time here, and always been weary of its look from the outside as it appears a little run down. However when you walk in, it's an old school diner with great service and a comfy atmosphere. The buffalo mozzarella sticks and eggplant fries were amazing appetizers, the whole table loved them! Lizz's Pamesan Panini had awesome flavor with the pesto and loads of Parmesan, but the chicken was rubbery or chewy at times so I probably wouldn't get that again. Not a very good first impression was made by this diner when I walked into here today. I was told a bunch of years ago by my father (before he died in 2015) that this place was one spectacular place - complete with gold seats in the mens restroom. But when I came in here and checked out the remainder of the place (plus later the restroom), I was treated to a different side. First of all, let's say this right at the beginning. When I come down, I'm always coming from the north but the position where this diner is - makes this place in a very bad place. There's guardrails that make the journey to there an out-and-back journey to get to there (if you are coming from the north). You go down to the next light then U-turn trekking back a few "driveways" till you spot the driveway for the place - it's on the Northbound side of the road making it impossible to get to easily. Second, as I came in, I saw signs of life. The "lobby" is decorated in what looks to be cheap metal/aluminum through which you go through until you reach the "please wait here sign". It took quite a few moments for an employee to spot me (and for me to spot them in turn), but I was assisted rather quickly. They asked if I wanted a booth and would be okay with sitting in the booths directly to the right (where no one else was sitting at that time). I thought I was okay, until I started to sit down but said nothing. I'm pretty "thick-boned" and my stomach made things ultra tight in this spot and unnatural. Right away, they asked for a drink order. I told them Sprite/Sierra Mist (which is okay with me) (keep this in mind, as it's a big player later.) and they brought it no problem. They brought over the menu a minute or two later...I studied it (although I had pre-studied it a few days before online). I knew what I wanted already, although it's always best to double-check: Grilled Chicken Sandwich. Their online and real menus differed in what they put there in the description, but they were okay with my substitutions. They came back and took my order rather promptly after I looked and found it - though I did have to close my menu to be spotted and seem ready to place the order. Serving was a problem though. Although I wasn't wearing my watch as I waited, I know it was drawing on and on. It wasn't busy at all, and lunch was over. I remember writing to my mother a text message saying "I think they had to murder the chicken first." It felt like it was at least a good thirty minutes after I gave it that the order arrived in one piece. They tested me a few minutes after I gave it with the quick service of the pickle and coleslaw (which I never eat due to health concerns). I began eating after a few minutes, and no sooner do I begin eating when the bellwaiters (filling water) came around. I told them that I was still good with my soda, but you could tell this person wasn't too bright. I was prepared to stop them if it came down to it, but I kept eating hoping that they'd listen. But it didn't stop there. After a few minutes, the water-filler came back through. I ended up explaining to them that what they thought was water was actually Sierra Mist, and I'm glad I did. I saw him reach for the cup then he retreated and I never saw him again for the rest of the journey. I choked myself up, seeing something on the TV inside the place, but I was able to revive myself. I get into this "choking bit" which seems like I'm choking, but I'm actually not. No one from the diner staff seemed too concerned except some other diner-goers. I knew what I needed to do, as I've done it several times myself but all I needed was time. I ate the remainder of the meal: the two halves of the grilled chicken sandwich on a bun (not really a hard roll, but not really a brioche bun either) as well as the fries, and was quick on being given the check. Seconds after I finished, they took my plate and gave me the check. I needed to use the mens room to refresh my fingers, and, recognizing I had the Yelp CashBack system from the $14 (plus coins) order, paid. Service at the register went over well, although the pen in the holder ran out of ink for a moment and I had to shake it to get it to work after it began to work then stopped. They handed me my card, and out I went. I mean: coming from the other end of Dutchess County, this is not really an everyday place with everyday values. But I thought I'd check out a place I know myself I had never been in. I though it had taste from what others told me, but things seemed to have changed. The bathroom - although clean - wasn't what was once described to me. The bathroom was your run of the mill place - one toilet, a urinal and two sinks set into a black porcelain tabletop. It had a mirror, but that was besides the point. I went in and out so quickly, I don't even recall what drying style this place used (paper versus electric). Not something I would go into again, I'm sorry to say. But thank you for showing me your place. read more

Everything about the food is generic and relatively boring; not bad but not great either. My wife and I have eaten here with some regularity over the past five years and I never expect much. Got Disco Fries here and they were the most disgusting inedible food item to ever be placed before me. Gravy was thick and fatty, cheese was half melted american cheese squares and the fries were cold. Our milkshake was not fresh. It was melted and the waitress clearly stated that she found it on the counter and didn't feel like making us a new one. To top it off the service was horrendous, pretty sure our waitress was on PCP. My mom and I were unexpectedly able to spend Easter together and decided to pop in around noon. I ordered the roast lamb from the Easter menu, and was floored by both the presentation and the quality and taste of the food. I started with the minestrone soup, then salad bar, then the lamb arrived with fresh vegetables cooked al dents, potatoes oreganato with crispy, well-seasoned outsides, tender insides. The tenderness of the lamb was amazing, and the garlic and rosemary was in balance with the savory meat. The portion was enough for me to eat more than enough and still have some to take to work tomorrow. The cheesecake was creamy and fresh. My mom ordered the Asian chicken salad from their regular menu. Hers, too was fresh, colorful and wholesome. Ray was our server, and was attentive to what we needed, and did not rush us through our courses. The meal and the service exceeded our expectations, and we will be back. Had the Monte Cristo the first time and it wasn't the typical Monte Cristo I thought it would be - it was served open faced and swimming in cheese, although it was good, I was still slightly disappointed. The second time we ate here, I ordered a pastrami omelette with cheese. Well when it came, they forgot the cheese and it was one of the driest omelettes that I had ever eaten. We've been here 4 times now, no visit was good. Food is middle-of-the-road. I've never had anything there that I hadn't had better at other diners. Sunday morning--walk in, handful of people waiting & no one to take a name/ask about wait. Gentleman finally hits register, ignores me for about 30 seconds until I just spoke up. In this business you really need to be able to multi-task, ring up a check & acknowledge customer. Without even making eye contact he tells a hostess (I think) "take her name." We're finally seated and nothing... Manager? Please manage. Yes, they were crowded & no we didn't demand immediate service. Finally the bus boy came over to ask about coffee (which he brought) then said he'd get our waitress. She never showed. Our waitress walked past our table numerous times, not once did she say "I'll be with you..." or even make eye contact. The bus-boy came back & took our order. When he delivered it all of sudden our waitress wanted to serve? Tip time? We allowed him to serve us, he did all the work. First time my order was ever correct. I think this is our last time. My husband's toast was so under-toasted it was still soft on one side. Plates were chipped. I'll wait 20 minutes at the Red Line next time. Last time we were there after a movie for coffee: One espresso, 1 cappuccino, 1 piece of cake, 1 piece of pie. Pie was wrong, 2 espressos, and no cake. Seriously, how do you screw up cake & coffee? After being there once before and having a decent lunch, I decided to give it another shot, but this time, for dinner. I was really in the mood for a burger and my wife was in the mood for a Panini. So I got an American burger, and she got a roast beef Panini with sweet potato fries. My American burger, with peppers, onions and cheddar cheese was so bland. This was the first time I ever had to put ketchup on my burger. Then my wife's sweet potato fries were overcooked. I usually don't complain, but I had a good friend of mine tell me the place was really good and their customer service is splendid. So I went up to the desk, paid for my food and asked if the owner was the one at the register. Once he knew I knew who he was, he started fumbling and looking in his desk after I told him the food was terrible. After a couple of minutes of awkward silence, I asked what he was doing. He told me he was looking for a five dollar gift card. Yes, five dollars for a $40 dinner (including tip). Being insulted, and disappointed, Ssaid forget about it, and left.
