Here's the thing - I have been going to the Dutchess Diner since it was considered a cool hangout after high school dances in the late 1990s. I also hung out at this place throughout college and even a little bit after....and even still, I have gone here for the occasional dinner, breakfast or late night "diet buster disco fries" snack since. That spans quite a bit of years, no? This place...has looked....exactly the same! Nothing has changed. Absolutely, positively nothing. The tables are clean as is their plates and cutlery (the most important thing, of course!), but I would advise the 1st time diner not to look up at any time during the course of the meal, as the stained drop ceiling tiles may make you think this place is a lot dirtier than it is (it's only a product of owner laziness). On to the food - the majority of this diner's fare is average for a diner in the area for an above average price (which doesn't always sit well in my book). Also, some of their pricing for side items is a bit ludicrous, such as a $3.00 (or so) price for 2 extra pickle spears. Regardless, the majority of the time, the food is decent enough where the only thing you're really unhappy about is the overpriced bill. The cakes are nothing to write home about and taste pretty processed, but their cookies (like the lintzer tarts, giant M&M and almond horns that they show) that they display in the front are delicious and are worth taking one home. The highlight meal of the restaurant? Might surprise you, but their most delicious offering is their breakfast combo of 2 eggs (my preference is overeasy!), well-done hashbrowns, and their homemade veggie burger. Even if you're not a vegetarian, there is something really delicious about this veggie burger, especially with a big splotch of ketchup mixed with your eggs that is just delightful. To have this meal would be the only intentional reason I would go here. Lastly, the waiters and the owners are basically the same as I have remembered them over the past 15 years or so. The service has never been spectactular except for a few gems that never last. The ones that see there all the time and seem like they live there are the ones without personality and too much attention. If you have other options to eat breakfast, I would try somewhere else but the place is clean, the food is average and it is open all the time. Ciao! read more

Came here for the first time. Wouldn't go there again because there are so many more appealing diners. The menu was large with many choices, but the food was lacking from taste to temperature. The waitress seemed pleasant but very forgetful and didn't come to the table often enough to see if we needed anything. My Wife and I stopped by there for lunch. The waiter very friendly. We both ordered a glass of Seltzer. We ordered 2 sandwiches. My wife had a grilled chicken panini and I ordered a sliced flank steak sandwich. My order came with a soup, which the waiter didn't ask me what I wanted. I had to ask him if I did get a soup. The beef barley soup was okay. Our food came out in about 15 minutes. The chicken panini was supposed to come with sweet potato fries. It came with regular fries. The waiter wasn't sure but told us he would bring an them in a few minutes. My medium rare sliced flank steak was rare and tough. I did send it back. 10 minutes later a new on arrived, yes it was medium rare, but very tough. The manager came over and offered to make me something else. By this point I was annoyed and had enough and asked for the check. The check came and the flank steak was taken off, but we were charged $5.50 for the seltzer. No way! After being in The Food Service business for 30 plus Years. Ido know that seltzer costs next to nothing, since no syrup is used. I called the manager over and told him how ridiculous it is to charge for seltzer. He seemed very annoyed but offered to take it off the bill. So to make a long story very short. If you're planning on dining at the Dutchess Diner, I suggest that you don't even step foot in the place. There's this new rule that they're enforcing that states that you must order a meal that's worth at least $7.95 or you can't eat there. In other words, if all that you want is a coffee or a piece of cake, you better hope it's worth $7.95 or you'll get a mouthful from the diner's manager. There's a right way and a wrong way to inform people of a new rule and the way this guy did didn't even come close to the right one. To give this joke of an establishment even one star is giving the place too much credit, but Yelp is forcing me to do so. read more

Extremely disappointing. Our visit was bad right from the start. It started with the waiter being as dumb as they come. He was arguing with us over the menu and tried to make us understand that we had to share one meal instead of each of us getting our own meal on the prix fix menu. Our meals had no flavor and we were unable to eat them. The only thing that was good was the coke but that was it. If this place keeps hiring staff like this waiter they won't last long. He didn't even apologize for the mix up and how wrong he was about the menu. We will never go there again. What a waste of time and money. Very good breakfast with healthy options. I had the whole grain pancakes (yes, I know I'm just fooling myself) and egg. My wife had some great french toast. We came here because we were at the mall and it was close by. We should've just gone to the food court! DO NOT EAT HERE!! When you walk in it stinks of mildew and something else I can't put my finger on. The service is slow and neglectful, and the food is gross! I ordered a grilled cheese, and the bread was dry and the cheese wasn't even fully melted! How do you screw up a grilled cheese?! All I have to say is never again!!!! read more

When I was a teenager, this was my favorite place for some late night fried food and a cigarette outside. Big emphasis on teenager...I had no taste then. The past two times I went to eat like an adult, it was disgusting. The food was cold, my chicken salad was grey and sour, and my parents got soup that was icy. And it's a shame because the staff and management are so friendly and welcoming. The menu prices will have you laughing in disbelief. So, yeah. The other night a few friends and I went to the diner after work. I haven't been here in a while but we decided to give a try. The diner was not that busy considering that it was later at night, but finally after about 15 minutes our waitress finally greeted us. Finally our orders were placed, I had just gotten something simple (deli sandwich and fries) and my friends had ordered entrees that came with soup and salad. We had been there for about 45 minutes and finally their soups and salad came, they had finished them and everyone was out of water by then. Having been there for over an hour at this point we began to get annoyed with how long we had been there and how horrible the service was. We began looking for our waitress who when then saw was sitting at the bar texting. It was at this point we had the manager come over and addressed our concerns. After the manager left our table our food came out about ten minutes later. The entrees were cold and the waitress was clearly annoyed that we had complained about our service. As someone who has worked as a server I do not like to complain, but it was getting to the point that it was getting a little ridiculous. I remember the diner as being much better. I was there on Sat with the wife. She had the pot roast and I had the the meatloaf. These 2 items should be basic staples at a diner. Both were rather bland. Even the gravies were tasteless. Very disappointing to say the least. Maybe they switched chefs???? The food is bland, bland, bland. We started coming here almost 15 years ago and still can't get over it. The food is delicious, the service is fast, and the staff is very friendly including my boy jimmy.After nearly memorizing the entire menu and falling in love with each individual entree we began ordering personalized custom orders. Unlike many other places where they refuse to take the lettuce off(as if it was attached to the tomato from the vine), dutchess diner will make it however you want it. One of my favorite wraps I love to order here is a fresh grilled chicken wrap with warm melted cheddar cheese, rice pilaf, and healthy black beans. If you're up for it ask for a side of chipotle sauce to give it a kick. Btw if your just looking for a classic fresh, juicy, angus burger this is definitely the place to go. Food was great...service on the other hand....eye roll when we needed more time with the menu, assumed we were done when only half done and bringing boxes without being asked, complaining to other waitresses and host about only making $30 in tips for the day and asking the owner for her to not have to fill in on a weekend , throwing the check at us (still not done with meal) after getting herself a coffee to go and added something from behind the bar only to tell us someone else would wait on us for the rest of the meal, only to have him take a plate and dump half the paper on the floor and yell "Bad" to everyone in the kitchen. When host asked how the meal was, I replied honestly only to be met with "I change table". What? Mind you, other owner sitting in next room completely unaware but helping himself to wine from bar only to go back to other room. At least the food was good. I really enjoy this diner and have gone to it many times over the years. The owners are very hands on and they care about their customers feedback. The food from bkfst., lunch, dinner and late night snacks is very delicious. The portion size is generous and the price range is middle of the road. They have a rather large menu selection from soups, sandwiches, steaks, fish, burgers, etc. The salad bar has salads, shrimp and more. The desserts are scrumptious. It is worth eating here. I don't understand why some people gave this diner a low rating, but everyone is entitled to the own opinion. So I would just like to say, don't be discouraged by some low ratings. It is homemade and based on veggies not rice or other grains...They serve it with lettuce, tomato, onion and avocado on great multi grain bread. Excellent diner! I've been going here for years with my family, and it's really good. The food is always good, and the atmosphere is family friendly. My family always sat near the fish tank in the back of the restaurant. When my sister and I were young, we would enjoy looking at the fish. And the staff still remember that and always put us there. The selection was fantastic without being so large as to sacrifice quality, and we thought all the items on the salad bar were quite fresh, even for a late night meal. I've eaten here three times and its gone from great to bad just that quickly. I'm not sure how they did it but they did. The first time I went I had one of their dinner combos that came with the soup or salad bar, beverage and an appetizer or dessert. It was fantastic. I mean everything was great. The next time I came here, I had breakfast with my father. They forgot a portion of my order and didn't bring it out until I was pretty much done with my meal and my fathers eggs were completely undercooked and running with clear yolk. As firm believers that if you send food back in a restaurant that's an invitation for the cooks to spit in your food, we never do that so he grinned and bared it figuring that we will not return for breakfast here ever again but still give dinner another shot since they probably have an evening cook. We did return for dinner and were let down once again. The service was slow, the food was not prepared correctly, the salad bar looked like it hadn't been freshened up in a while and the taste of the food was mediocre compared to the first time we were here. I really am disappointed that this diner went from such a great first impression to falling way down on the scale. Too bad but we won't be returning. read more

Complete crap. Go the 84 diner in beacon it is far better (which isn't saying much). I ordered a panini. I was served a sandwich so overly smothered in butter/oil/mystery grease that the bread was so soaked and mushy it fell apart, my non-panini disintegrated before my very eyes. It was not panini-ish at all! It was the soggiest sandwich I have ever attempted to eat, and it was not 'pressed'. The contents of my sandwich were sort of shoved between the two pieces of toasted bread. Diner food is generally greasy and terrible, but my plate was oozing grease grease grease, I was horrified (more so that I paid good hard earned money for this grease-fest). My friend ordered matzo ball soup and was so disappointed she sent it back. And the pickles... They were god awful. A diner must have good pickles! I always order a extra plate of pickles when I eat at diners, and I usually always wolf my extra pickles down; I could only eat one at this place. Then I felt like a brat for leaving the extra few pickles on the plate after I had made such a special bratty request, but I couldn't torture myself. read more

I don't think this is a Greek-owned diner. The burger comes with the option of fries or tabouli. C'mon. My order today was for a cheeseburger with onion rings but I received a bacon, onion, mushroom, pepper burger with fries instead. The waitress told me that the kitchen had mixed it up with an employee's meal. She did not take ownership of the mistake. A couple in the booth next to ours told us on their way out that their order was also wrong. My burger was well done despite the request for medium. The buns tasted stale and the coffee in a small mug was $1.79. The ceiling tiles appeared water-logged and the service was as slow as molasses. This is a one star diner that won a second star for its very good AC. The place is going downhill fast. I see a CVS there soon. read more

I do like the Dutchess Diner. Very good, tasty, not greasy burgers served up on a fresh hard roll. I like the half sour pickles they serve along with it and the fries are always done they way I ask. I really like the home fries, they actually have flavor! Nicely seasoned (not too heavy for those watching sodium) and nice crispy bits strewn about. Eggs were not too runny and not overcooked. One of my companions today had a pot roast sandwich which left one wondering why they even served it. It was just sliced pot roast on a roll. Boring, dull and tasteless. Yet my other companion had a tender fried chicken cutlet on a roll with lettuce and a juicy red tomato that was excellent. I probably would not order pasta or high end dishes like filet Mignon or pastrami but good basic diner fare. Love the mini cookies in the bowl for you to take on your way our. When you first walk in, you are greeted by a warm friendly individual. As weird as this may sound, this place has the best pickles and cole slaw in the world. I literally come here and put an order in just for that to take home. The salad bar is great. And the breakfast platters are delicious.
