Don't judge a book by its cover applies to this diner. Small Greek run diner with a large local clientele and carry out service. Extensive lunch menu with a decent sized breakfast menu. I had the Spanish omelette with hash browns and rye toast. Everything was perfect. The eggs were not bland and the Spanish sauce with the right spicy profile. Hash browns not greasy and the buttered rye bread delicious. The bread pulled it over the line for a five star. The 85 year old owner greeted many of the locals. I stopped in for lunch, and a coworker ate here before. The restaurant is family owned, it's clean, good spacing between tables. The private parking lot is a good-sized one. The staff is very down to earth and friendly. I ordered the double meat gyro and cross cut fries. My gyro was pretty good! This spot serves breakfast all day also. Although this review is under a decade long I've been a consistent diner here since I was a kid. Since then I've managed to frequent many a local diner across the states and come to the conclusion that this is one of the all-time best and quite frankly a newburgh landmark. Some of the best home-cooked food and Greek specialties are offered in this little cornerstone business. It's family run and has been from its inception. Rude. Straight up rude service. Very bland food. Bacon not crispy. Potatoes were just boiled and not fried. We weren't expecting amazing food but we were at least expecting friendly service and good diner food. Won't be back. The only thing we could figure out, our server looked to be in pain. Perhaps that is why she was rude to us the entire time. We hope she feels better soon. read more

My wife and I went here last Wednesday to grab a quick lunch. It's was the first time for both of us. I got the hot dog special and my wife got the chicken and fries. Anna's has been a fixture in the City of Newburgh for as long as I can remember. This is a small eatery with food choices similar to a diner but an atmosphere similar to a small restaurant. The building is very small and there aren't generally lots of cars there, but don't let that fool you. This is actually quite a busy place. The flow of customer traffic is steady throughout the day and the turnaround times are extremely fast. I stopped in for late breakfast with a small group of friends on Saturday morning. We were promptly greeted and told we could sit wherever we'd like (half the tables were full; they were moderately busy). The waitress was very, very friendly and joked with us as if we were regular customers. Just like any good establishment, she took our beverage orders and quickly produced them. She checked back until we were ready to order. After we ordered, the food was out in less than 10 minutes - unbelieveable fast. She checked back frequently to make sure everything was okay. Top-notch service. The food orders were all correct from what we ordered and food was hot off the griddle. The food was delicious and well-priced. You get a decent portion of food for the price you pay. The inside of the building (including tables, chairs, etc) was clean and everything was well-maintained. The interior is old, but that's what gives the place its charm. You feel like you're eating in an old-school eatery from Newburgh's historic past, which is exactly what this is. read more

This place used to offer really good food for reasonable prices. I took a friend there recently. Meal was less than great. Mushy falafel. special of the day was never before seen mixture that claimed to be Chinese, salty soup. You get the idea. Food has gone way downhill from what it used to be. Was going to this restaurant earlier today when the owner / worker (I'm not really sure) starts yelling at a member of our group and call them the F word (homophobic) and the N word over something that did not happen in the restaurant. Definitely made our group feel extremely uncomfortable and they were completely out of line in talking to a customer. Never coming here ever again. read more

well I finally went here to try it since my mother told me about the place when she worked in the area years ago. I like a old fashion diner like this, that reminds you of the kitchen at home. we were greeted quickly and given the menus, really large menu with lot of options and the prices, were great, I mean I could get a breakfast and lunch for the price I would pay for a entrée at a chain franchise. so had a Greek pita stuffed with cheese, eggs and ham. I was very fresh and hot, tasted very homemade and down to earth. ordered a side of hash browns, seasoned well and toughly warm, wish they bit more crispy. also ordered a potato, cheese, egg and sausage on hard roll for a later meal. that sandwich was yummy and brings me back to when I commuted to NYC for school, the hard roll sandwiches I would order for the bodegas, made fresh with care. overall it was a small, but quite and peaceful diner, perfect for a home cooked breakfast and would like to try their lunch and dinner menu. read more

Small local place, busy even at 1 PM on a Tuesday. Friendly folks. I had the pork Souvlaki platter with fries, nice Greek salad, and a fresh soft pita and titiki sauce. Delicious, filled me up. Hubby had roast beef dinner, which was very good, but he wouldn't have minded paying a little more for a larger serving. The coconut pie was not worth getting, though. It's very odd that a Greek food Super Fan like myself, and a resident of Newburgh, NY for 7 years now, had never been inside Anna's for a meal. I've grabbed some Texas Weiner's a few times to go. Recently, I took my 13 year old and I to Anna's, as I woke up with a craving for falafel. It was not busy inside around 11:45am on a Saturday. One table was taken, and a few regulars at the counter. I think two other parties arrived while we were there, and there were quite a few take out orders. We sampled the falafel appetizer and the dolmas(stuffed grape leaves), a Texas Weiner, and a gyro with fries. The Dolmas were delicious. Seasoned perfectly. You can tell that they were freshly made. I wish they would have served a little bit of crumbled feta cheese with them, as that would have knocked it out of the park. The distinct flavor of the feta mixed with the lemony/minty flavor of the stuffed grape leaf makes for a flavor explosion in my opinion. The falafel was on point! It was super-good! A little spicy, not too thick. I almost wish I got it as a pita wrap. The hot dog was good, topped with onions, yellow mustard and special sauce. It was lacking the "snap" that we all appreciate from Pete's, but it tasted good. The gyro was very good, plentiful, and required a lot of napkins (just the way I like it) Service was good, the atmosphere was very comfortable. I can't wait to go back! read more

Food to be generous, was bland, my order of corned beef hash looked like an anemic potato pancake. Everything was tasteless. What an incredible find for us. All dishes on the menu are prepared by Anna, 81 years young, and a dynamo. We had their Greek dishes and can confirm the food is skillfully prepared. The dressing on our Greek salad was so very good, served with delicious feta, onions, tomato and a dolmades. We then had an appetizer of her homemade falafels, and finished with a gyros in pita. The amazing thing is the same people work here and they are so friendly and always recognize familiar faces even after years.
