I was in the mood for a gyro and saw Athena and figured I would give it a try The restaurant area was packed which impressed me I was served my take out order quickly and was beyond surprised how good the gyro was. It was so good I went back a week later and am now going to take my family for a sit down dinner in the restaurant Highly recommended read more

Been meaning to check this place out for a while now and so happy I finally did! We ate on the patio and it was so nice to have great cocktails and a delicious meal outside! Everyone liked their drinks, the food hit the spot, and we had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. This will quickly become one of our go-to spots!! Bonus points for having multiple vegan options on the menu. read more

Gyro was great. Service was fast. People were friendly. Prices were good. Redesign of the interior is nice. So go!

Didn't get a chance to take pics of our dinners but this place was SOOO good. The husband and wife who own it were so sweet and sparking up a convo with every table. I ordered the chicken souvlaki plate and my fiancé ordered the lamb gyro and both were excellent. Wish it was closer so we could go back read more

Delicious, HUGE portions, Friendly Welcome & Service, Plenty of Parking, Clean & Brightly Lite, Containers for taking home the left overs, and Very Reasonable Prices. What more can you ask for! read more

The portions are filling and the staff are super friendly. Love the decor inside simple and displays the best parts of Greece. The warm pita to start was great paired with a refreshing Greek salad. I ordered the chicken gyro platter - skip the rice and get the fries next time! The fries were so crunchy delicious. The dessert was really good and filling as well - it was like a custard and flaky pastry on the outside. read more

Owner is a great guy, but food is mediocre, and when owner is not around, service suffers, especially lady at cashier area. Sent me out with that out order without utensils or napkins. Some sort of economy move. read more

The gyros are solid and reasonably price, but I hate that a side of fries (and not a great side of fries) is a 7 dollar add on. Always forget to remind myself to not get the fries. Other than that, a workable spot for a gyro. read more

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for some time and this past weekend we did just that. They had a special Lobster bisque which we are suckers for. What a disappointment no lobster taste and I swear there was the imitation crab chunks. I went safe with a lamb Gyro w/ fries wife had chicken souvlaki. Both were good but not outstanding. I expected more and perhaps that was my error in overhyping it prior to trying it. read more

This is still my go-to for sure, with the friendly staff and of course, the delicious food. Plenty of seats available which will indeed fill up, especially during the peak of lunch and dinner -- plan accordingly. So far, I'm thrilled with the choices I've picked from the menu, the Cheeseburger Deluxe, Chicken Gyro in the Pita, and Gyro in the Pita (regular). Everything in those orders was delicious, as well as messy. I'm curious to see what other foods they have to offer since I don't dine frequently. The owner, George, every time we come, will check-in and ask if we need anything, which goes a long way. Rarely, it's seen in other restaurants. Leaving Athena Gyro, just be careful when pulling out, especially during school, rush hour time, weekends, and holidays. read more

Was in a rush so ordered ahead and got the Lobster Bisque, it was amazing when I went inside to get my food they had a nice Greek style ambiance (if you go to the AHS you can pay to park in their parking lot as a senior) read more

We were traveling north on the Taconic when we decided to stop for lunch! So glad we chose Athena Gyro! The owner and her staff were super welcoming. The restaurant was very clean. The food was absolutely delicious and came in huge portions. I had a souvlaki gyro which I could barely finish. I wished that I had room for one of their desserts which are all homemade. We got a couple to go that would travel well because I couldn't resist! The cheesecake with baklava beneath looked amazing though. Next time.... read more

I only ordered a gyro and it was ok. The staff was super friendly and attentive, which I think would be a great reason to go here if I wanted a full on meal. read more

Greek cuisine is well represented in Freedom Plains NY thanks to Athena gyro. From gyros, moussaka, pastisio, spanakopita, and baklava...it's all there. Everything is Scratch made with love. Love is always the secret ingredient! The food itself is high quality and plentiful. As good as the food is, the service is even better. It feels like every staff member in the restaurant truly cares about your experience. Few places give you the warm feeling of a loving kitchen like a family run Greek restaurant. Athena is the Greek family I never knew I had. read more

I stopped here on my way home from a yoga class and I was really hungry. When I ordered my food I had no idea how generous the portions were and kind of, might have ordered a little bit "too" much food. However, I was certainly not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious! Some of the best Greek food I've had in all of Connecticut! I ordered the gyro in a pita, hummus, and Greek fries. I found everything to not only be tasty but also exceed my expectations. The price is fair, and the service is excellent. The restaurant itself provides a cozy and clean atmosphere. I would not only come again, I can even see myself driving a bit of distance to come here just to satisfy any Greek food cravings I might have. read more

I normally never ever comment when I have a negative review about a place or location because my opinion of their food it's just that an opinion. However this is the second time I've ordered from this location and felt bullied or judged while PICKING up my order. Both times I've picked up at this location I've been at the register paying and behind the girl taking my payment stands a man who I assume is the owner watching my every move and CLEARLY is annoyed at my lack of a tip. First time I got a dirty look tonight met with sarcasm. I always always tip generously while eating in and delivery but I have personally picked up my food twice and I know we live in a tip world but there is NO obligation for tipping at a pick up order. I will never give this place my business again. It's actually crazy to have someone act this way let alone stare you down and be so arrogant. I'm sure I'm not the only one! Good luck with that. read more

The food, service and ambiance was phenomenal here. Our gyro were delicious and fresh.

Fantastic! If you are looking for great food in a welcoming atmosphere - this is it. We were greeted when we arrived by friendly staff and perhaps the owner. Our food arrived promptly and it tasted just as we'd remembered from the last trip to the area. We had gyros and a salad which included both peppers, stuffed grape leaves and plenty of wonderful feta. Enjoyed every bite! We got dessert to go- and were wished a safe trip by our greeter. Cheers to successful small restaurants that make traveling to this area so memorable! read more

After a long morning of driving in and out the city from my brother's cabin, I was craving a Greek salad. I asked my sister in law where I could get one, and she said a place in Poughkipsie... we were right by the exit and took it. She sent me the name of a deli and I looked up to see Athena Gyro in the corner of my eye as if it was meant to be. We were greeted warmly by the staff and they let us sit outside with our dog (we were originally just going to do takeout because she was with us). The server was prompt and welcoming, I got a "small" Greek salad with chicken and my husband got a chicken gyro and Greek fries. My salad also came with fresh pita bread they made there. I had enough leftover to take home for my brother and sister in law to have lunch. Will definitely go again when we are in town. read more

We had such a great experience at Athena Gyro Greek Taverna in Lagrangeville. From the moment we walked in, everything felt warm, welcoming, and well-run. We started with the Feta in Phyllo with honey and sesame--crispy, creamy, sweet, and savory all in one bite. The hummus was smooth and fresh, served with warm pita that was perfect for dipping. For mains, we had the Pastitsio and Spanakopita, both of which were flavorful and clearly made with care. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, and the meals even came with a crisp Greek salad, which was a nice touch. The service was excellent--friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We especially appreciated that the owner or manager made the rounds in the dining room, checking in with every table to make sure everything was going well. That personal touch really stood out. The restaurant itself was very clean and comfortable, and the atmosphere was casual but charming. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes--we definitely felt like we got great value. If you're in the area and craving Greek food, Athena Gyro is a must-try. Authentic flavors, great service, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe. We'll absolutely be back! read more

We were in the neighborhood and it was lunchtime; so we stopped in. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It's genuine Greek food, not like so many diners purport to be. Tried the befteki on pita. Excellent choice. It's essentially a grilled burger with the usual salad and tzatziki on top, served medium rare. Moist, flavorful, and very filling. The decor and atmosphere are inviting. The staff very attentive without being overbearing. While the weather is clement there's open air and under a canopy outdoor seating. The restrooms are hospital clean. That's a good sign. There are soft drinks, wine, and beer. The only drawback; and it's not the restaurant's fault - it's getting out of the parking lot on to the main drag; many of the motorists on the street won't give you a chance to pull into traffic, even though they CAN see you. read more

Food is always amazing here . The staff are great the service is great and the overall ambiance in this establishment sets the tone .

Being from Tarpon Springs (the Greek capital of the USA), I first lived in Astoria for their Greek food and had to find the best Greek locale when I moved to Dutchess. Everyone pointed me to Athena. Honestly, I had low expectations because other Greek restaurants in the Westchester/Dutchess area had failed me... but Athena really is the real deal. Everything I eat here reminds me of home. The dolmades and keftedes are perfect. I love their Greek salads (dressing has its own unique flavor that I love - I think raspberry?). I'm also a sucker for their Greek potatoes, the feta dip, and what Greek meal is complete without rice pudding?! Definitely a top spot for me in the area. read more

Excellent authentic food that is delicious and very well seasoned. The portions are very large. We had the small Greek salad, which is quite big, traditional Gyro pita, and chicken souvlaki pita. The service is great and the restaurant is very clean. Kid and family friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We will return! read more

A+++ Greek food. Me and a friend stumbled here because we were in the area for an event and was definitely impressed. It's hard to find good Greek food by me and this spot was it! We started with hummus and pita then had Greek fries. Very good! And I ordered a new Greek dish I never tried before, it was like popok____ ?? But it was basically a lasagna looking dish with pastas and ground meat and bechamel sauce... very good!! It came with a huge salad as well and the dressing was to die for, not sure what's inside but it seemed like a Greek yogurt vinaigrette. Very impressed overall. read more

It is hard to find good Greek food let alone any Greek food around here. The main store is in Arlington which is not far, but wouldn't drive there just to have dinner.
