The portions are filling and the staff are super friendly. Love the decor inside simple and displays the best parts of Greece. The warm pita to start was great paired with a refreshing Greek salad. I ordered the chicken gyro platter - skip the rice and get the fries next time! The fries were so crunchy delicious. The dessert was really good and filling as well - it was like a custard and flaky pastry on the outside.

This is still my go-to for sure, with the friendly staff and of course, the delicious food. Plenty of seats available which will indeed fill up, especially during the peak of lunch and dinner -- plan accordingly. So far, I'm thrilled with the choices I've picked from the menu, the Cheeseburger Deluxe, Chicken Gyro in the Pita, and Gyro in the Pita (regular). Everything in those orders was delicious, as well as messy. I'm curious to see what other foods they have to offer since I don't dine frequently. The owner, George, every time we come, will check-in and ask if we need anything, which goes a long way. Rarely, it's seen in other restaurants. Leaving Athena Gyro, just be careful when pulling out, especially during school, rush hour time, weekends, and holidays.

So good!!! Food is always fantastic; place is sparkling clean. Owners stop by to check on everything. Gyro with fries outstanding! Greek honey balls ate the perfect finish, enough to share!

After a long morning of driving in and out the city from my brother's cabin, I was craving a Greek salad. I asked my sister in law where I could get one, and she said a place in Poughkipsie... we were right by the exit and took it. She sent me the name of a deli and I looked up to see Athena Gyro in the corner of my eye as if it was meant to be. We were greeted warmly by the staff and they let us sit outside with our dog (we were originally just going to do takeout because she was with us). The server was prompt and welcoming, I got a "small" Greek salad with chicken and my husband got a chicken gyro and Greek fries. My salad also came with fresh pita bread they made there. I had enough leftover to take home for my brother and sister in law to have lunch. Will definitely go again when we are in town.

Greek cuisine is well represented in Freedom Plains NY thanks to Athena gyro. From gyros, moussaka, pastisio, spanakopita, and baklava...it's all there. Everything is Scratch made with love. Love is always the secret ingredient! The food itself is high quality and plentiful. As good as the food is, the service is even better. It feels like every staff member in the restaurant truly cares about your experience. Few places give you the warm feeling of a loving kitchen like a family run Greek restaurant. Athena is the Greek family I never knew I had.

I stopped here on my way home from a yoga class and I was really hungry. When I ordered my food I had no idea how generous the portions were and kind of, might have ordered a little bit "too" much food. However, I was certainly not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious! Some of the best Greek food I've had in all of Connecticut! I ordered the gyro in a pita, hummus, and Greek fries. I found everything to not only be tasty but also exceed my expectations. The price is fair, and the service is excellent. The restaurant itself provides a cozy and clean atmosphere. I would not only come again, I can even see myself driving a bit of distance to come here just to satisfy any Greek food cravings I might have.

Awesome food and quick service! We come here all the time because it's so quick and convenient. You can order online and the order is always ready within 10 minutes so perfect for us during the week when we are getting takeout. We love their Greek salad, lamb and chicken gyros, fries, hummus, etc All has been delicious and there are huge portions! We'll order some extra gyro meat and pitas and be able to get 2-3 meals

They have the best greek salad in Dutchess County. The dressing is delicious, gyros and falafel are also great.

When I research restaurants on Yelp for out of state trips, certain restaurants stand out and I…read moreknow I have to visit. The Hog was one of those restaurants. The Hog has a very high overall Yelp rating, and a menu full of very cool sounding breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, burgers, jawns (iykyk, but think famous Philly foods) and bowls. It would literally take me weeks of eating lunch or breakfast at The Hog to order everything I want from the menu, but I ordered a "Grasso" Italian style hoagie for myself, and a "Blues for Tom" carved turkey based sandwich for my wife. The Grasso is not your Nonna's Italian. It has some familiar sandwich fillings like high quality hot soppressata and ham, EVOO, vinegar and oregano. Some stylized versions of things you know like shredduce, pickled onions and sun dried peppers. But I bet you've never had mozzarella's oozy cousin burrata on an Italian sandwich. Or whatever Garlic knot sauce is. This sandwich looked amazing. Tasted fantastic. The salty, sweet and acidic flavors really sang. The long hoagie roll was very good too. As much as I loved my sandwich, the turkey sandwich I ordered with my wife's tastes in mind may have been even better. It had carved turkey, Brie, Blueberry Chia Jam, apple, something called "rocket", toasted almonds and an unbilled starring roll for arugula (I believe). I've never seen this combination, but it played like a riff on the classic Thanksgiving style carved turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce. I don't know what this sounds like to people who eat a sandwich with just bologna, but it was amazing. The flavors and textures were so great. The country white bun was fresh and tasty too. The person who put this menu together is a culinary genius. So many cool options and unique takes on favorites. If you're anywhere near Wappingers Falls, you should go. They have seating and coffee as well. 5 enthusiastic Stars

The food is unmatched, some of the best around and one of my favorite spots for a lunch date. My favorite item though is the Hashbrown fries. There is indoor and outdoor seating. All the outdoor tables have umbrellas. Dog friendly. You order and pay inside (tip: know your table number when you go to order). We tried two of their salads (Waldorf, southwest Cobb)... we enjoyed them all... very fresh, good sized. Got both of these on both trips in. The turkey BLT wrap was great! Parking - we parked in a lot behind the restaurant. Most people had to pay the meter but we had a handicap hangtag and the handicap spot was free. Would def recommend!

Boy, are there a lot of post-hike options in New Paltz. I stopped by here this past Saturday…read moreafternoon after an 8.7-mile hike in nearby Minnewaska State Park. The weather had been pretty mediocre throughout the day but that clearly hadn't stopped the tourists from invading the downtown area - the place was teeming with people when I came in around 3pmish. I didn't do a ton of research on potential eating spots (a lot of SE Asian eateries, which seemed kind of random?) but picked Lola's because it was a block or two from where I parked, and I immediately imprinted on the Short Rib Grilled Cheese when I saw it on the online menu. Decision made. Since it was starting to get a little nicer out, I would have liked a spot outside in the front patio. But the girl at the check-in (I feel like there's a much better term for that) asked me to go inside, which for sure was a bias against the fact that I was a solo diner. I get it in theory, but it's not fun to get treated like a second-class citizen because you don't have a posse with you in a tourist trap. Regardless, the interior was fine; looked like it had been redone within the last year or so; what it lacked in personality it made up for in terms of overall spiffiness (and the area where the personality DID come through was in the bathroom area, with tongue-in-check "Whatever" gender signs on the doors and edgy art by the sinks. Tell me you're a college town without telling me you're a college town.). The set-up in here is more casual than I assumed; I was told that my table was #10 (the numbers were clearly marked on each table, reminiscent of Smashburger), and that once I decided what I wanted, I needed to go up to the counter to order. Someone WOULD serve the food, but a big chunk of the experience is DIY. I ordered the aforementioned Short Rib Grilled Cheese w/ Fries, along with a Diet Pepsi, and waited. I thought this was pretty inefficient, as there were plenty of employees nearby who easily could have just taken my order at the table instead of having me sit down, then stand up and walk across the restaurant to order, and then sit back down. The wait was a little longer than I would have guessed, just given the straightforward order and casual, almost fast-food style to the business model; it took close to 20 minutes to get my sandwich, I'd guess. Not egregious, and there WERE a number of other customers on the premises as well. The Grilled Cheese was just okay - I tend to grade on a curve after a hike, but I thought it was really drippy/greasy, and I wasn't crazy about the tomato compote it came with (which is a personal palate preference and something that WAS specifically referenced on the menu and I didn't request its exclusion; easy to remove, regardless). The short ribs aspect was unsurprisingly the best part. The fries were decent; a little pale but cooked through. There was a pickle hidden underneath them that was a little emotionally upsetting but it is what it is. This was fine and could have been worse, but the next time I'm in town I'm going to keep walking down the street and trying one of the many other options nearby. The target demo for this feels a little more 2am college student than hungry hiker in the afternoon.
