Aside from never offering what they did have available and instead saying "We don't have that" for about half the menu, she seemed very annoyed to be taking our order period. She was very unpleasant, to say the least. Waitress had an immense staring problem as well. I would've walked out had it not been a going away event for a coworker. Owner seems aware of this issue. Took about an hour for a milkshake and by that time, after tolerating the way she treated the group, I didn't have the appetite to finish half of it. A 12 person group of regulars and our food had numerous problems: - Cold food all around - waffle fries that were cold and like rocks, they bounced, they could be used as projectile weapons. - Spinach and Artichoke dip that tasted like glue and likely will cause a serious tummy ache. - forgotten orders of food. - Weird colored smoked salmon on the Bagel deluxe with smells of bad fish factory - No refills on drinks - Chicken tenders that are dry and taste metallic. Just OK. Came here on a very cold day and it was equally cold inside. Our server was very friendly and did inform us ahead of time that one of the cooks called out sick that day so the kitchen would be a bit backed up. Friend started with a French onion soup which was fine but not much flavor. We both ordered chicken club sandwiches which were pretty good. Lots of toppings, but the chicken was a little dry. Heard nothing about this place and wish I kept it that way. The service was terrible sat there for an hour in a half empty restaurant without a single acknowledgment to my family being there, not even a single cup of water was left. I can't say much about the food as I never got to that part of my experience there. The only thing we got was a cup of coffee that the table in front of us did not want (note that family got there way after us). I would love to keep going but to conclude this terrible experience the server was extremely rude when I asked for a fresh cup of coffee she took the left over one on my table and slammed it on another. Decided to check them out a couple months ago after not having eaten there in probably a decade. I'll say it was WAYYYYY better than I remember it being. The diner itself was cute and our server was friendly enough but my food was so bad. I love eggs benedict. Maybe part of the problem Is that my hollandaise is amazing....theirs was split- you can see in the photo and tasted like nothing. Needs more lemon and salt. The poached eggs were not cooked long enough. When i cut them open all the yolk flowed out instantly. It should be a thicker, jammier texture. The home fries were ok, but i just wanted some yummy eggs Benedict. This was a major disappointment. My boyfriends steak and eggs were fine, but he never complains. Let me start by saying I enjoy the food at this diner and usually have really great service. I dined in with my daughter on 12/4/2022 around 11am before we hit the road. The service was great as expected but when we went up to the counter to pay for our meal, the middle age lady handling the register was giving me and my daughter the dirtiest looks ever, as if we were not welcomed. She didn't even speak, just told us our total and looked at us in disgust. My daughter asked me for a lollipop at the counter and the lady literally paused what she was doing to stare my daughter up and down as she picked out a pop. I'm usually not creeped out by facial expressions and let alone right a review about an experience, but something needed to be said. Fix your face lady or find someone nicer for the register. What a fantastic breakfast!!! I wasn't crazy about the corned beef hash as it's canned mush, similar to that of cat chow, but the rest of my breakfast was a delight! Gluten free toast, how great! The over easy egg was the most perfectly cooked egg I've had yet in a restaurant. A side of bacon consists of an entire plate worth of bacon - and how can you go wrong there! We were in Newburgh for a baseball tournament and we were a little hungry. We were in the mood for some breakfast so what better than a diner. So I jumped on Yelp and this was the closest with decent reviews. They have a large parking lot and plenty of spots. The place looks like the old time diners with the stainless steel siding and large windows with booths in them. When you enter it also looks like the old school diners with the homemade dessert display. There also have a counter service area and the old school neon signs and wood paneling everywhere. The staff was friendly and they greeted us instantly and seated us immediately. They had a large menu with a ton of options. They had some specials too and the desserts in the case looked amazing. So I ordered the corner hash with eggs. It was served with toast and homesites. It was really Good. The home fries were super crispy and seasoned well. The eggs were cooked well and the toast was done perfectly. My son has a Belgian waffle with bananas and whip cream he also had an order of bacon. I didn't try it but he said it was super good and he ate the whole thing. The waitress was very nice and attentive and had everything we needed and never missed a beat. They also had a busser that was clearing the dishes and cups and sweeping and wiping chairs the entire time. I love when a restaurant is clean and takes the time to make sure they are keeping up with it all. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and when or if we go back we will revisit. read more

Found this place while in the area. Had good reviews so decided to pop in. Not everyday you see a Greek diner! Was excited to order a gyro with onion rings and dig in. Sorry to say gyro disappointed. Sort of soggy gyro meat had some flavor but certainly didn't taste fresh shaven off a spit. Veggies on it were ok nothing to write home about. The tzatziki sauce came in little cups almost frozen and without much flavor. Might be a good breakfast spot but not so much for lunch. Though other people seemed to really enjoy it. Tried here after picking up grub hub orders often. So came here around for a late breakfast. Seated very quickly and the service was very friendly and polite to be sure. Ordered the nova lox salmon and onion omelette with waffle fries over home fries since most places don't do home fries right. Plus a side of order of a butter roll. Food did not take more the 10 minutes and was very fresh. For the omelette, salmon was fresh and plentiful, onions really wish they caramelized, since it was raw slightly cooked with everything else being hot. Really could used cheese in omelette to make it a lot better. Waffle fries were lightly seasoned, not overly salted and crispy edges, perfect. This is the city, Newburg NY, ...I'm a Yelper, ...I carry a fork. It was cold, breezy with a thick murky rain falling that day. That kind of light rain that's more annoying than a Baptist downpour in a Lousiana swamp. The kind of dampness that creeps into your bonze, making everything creek like grandma's kitchen door. My wife and I were working the stores in the Newburg area in search of affordable shrubbery. We'd been shopping for most of the morning, not having eaten anything since breakfast at about 0530 hrs, ...we decided it was time to make a stop, ...this is my story. My watch showed 11 o'clock, but my stomach was insisting it was 12. The parking lot was pretty empty when we pulled in, scarcely a vehicle to be seen. The establishment is named Ikaros, you know, pronounced like the Greek myth Icarus. There would be two for lunch this day, preferably in a booth. The patrons numbered in the single digits when we entered, so the choice of seating was ours. This establishment had seen many owners over the past 30 years, as well as changes in name. Some familiar with this place might remember it as 'Johnny Ds.' We were quickly seated and queried about beverages by our waitress. Today was going to be our first visit back in years and our hopes were high. We wished to keep it simple, a burger deluxe is often our litmus test in these matters. First the service ...it was excellent, our waitress was most attentive. No sooner had we entered than the lunch crowd began to arrive behind us. Our order was two burger deluxes, one with avocado and the other was plane. Second, ...my coffee. I always gauge a place by the quality of its coffee. I find that if the coffee is burnt, weak, or cold, the service and food quality is usually in step with the aforementioned deficiencies. This earned them their first star. The coffee was hot, rich, and quite tasty. The second star was earned when our orders arrived quickly, hot, and perfectly displayed on our plates. We'd chosen the 'home fries' instead of French fries. This was disappointing for three reasons. They were bland, free of peppers and paste-like, three critical ingredients that were missing. I was able to make them palatable with the addition of pepper, salt, and some ketchup. My wife didn't go any farther than one fork full of her's. The burgers were perfectly prepared, just as we'd ordered. The buns were toasted on the bottom, but soft on the top, preventing the bread from crumbling when grasped in hand. All in all the burgers were well worth the price, ...oh yes, the price. It was comparable to surrounding eateries, not higher, not lower but rather spot on earning the third star. For dessert, I chose a Napoleon. For anyone who isn't into pastry or perhaps from a culture or area where pastries aren't a big thing, it was fine. However my wife and I are Brooklyn Italians who grew up on German, Duch, Greek, and Italian pastries from mom&pop family bakeries, so we've been spoiled. We immediately identified the presence of cream cheese in the filling, not the correct French cream/custard (there is also a Russian version of the Napoleon, which is ironic to anyone who knows history). The 'pastry' was thick and firm, not flakey and light. The icing on top was just a little too sweet but necessary to offset the overpowering taste of cream cheese. Not that it was intolerable, just not a top-of-the-line Napoleon. We'd inquired as to who prepared their desserts and was told that everything was baked on premiss. We will be revisiting this place again, there was enough on the 'bone' that would suggest that it's worth a re-visit for something a little more detailed than a simple burger deluxe. read more

The food was the best diner food we have had in while, made fresh to order! The layout of the building is classic diner style, having a traditional diner menu offering, with nothing to disappoint. The service was above average, with very friendly staff that operated efficiently. Would absolutely return for a meal other than breakfast, but they breakfast left us wanting to return again. The Ikaros Diner is your typical Greek diner. A massive menu, spunky waitresses and good food. When visiting a friend in New Windsor this is his go to place when he takes me to lunch. On our last visit I decided to go with the gyro wrap special. Tasty gyro meat with lettuce tomato, onion and feta cheese in a pita bread wrap. As it's the lunch special it came with a cup of soup, I had the split pea. It also came with some coleslaw and either french fries or potato salad, I chose the potato salad. The wrap was good the meat was tasty with just enough taziki sauce on the side. The potato salad was made with skin on red potatoes and was very good. The coleslaw was just OK. My friend had a bowl of chili served with taco chips he said it was very good. The diner is on Union Ave just off the NYS Thruway and offers a good place to take a break on a trip upstate. If you're in the area give the Ikaros diner a try they're bound to have something you'll like. read more

What can I say? I love a good diner. We were famished after hiking around Storm King Art Center in the cold, and I was looking for something warm and mushy to dig into, about the size of a horse. Ikaros fit the bill. I had the eggplant rollatini parmigiana, which was on special (although I think the specials menu was weirdly called "Trends"). It came with chicken noodle soup (nothing to even remotely write home about), and a half decent salad with low rent blue cheese dressing. The eggplant parmigiana came as a huge pile of eggplant, layered with sauce, ricotta, oregano, and absolutely smothered in mozzarella sauce. With penne and sauce served on the side, it looked like I had ordered a children's pasta and tomato sauce as a side dish, just because I didn't have enough food already. I could live without the soup, salad, and side of pasta, but the actual eggplant was delicious. It was so dense and sat so heavy in my tum-tum, but sometimes that's just what you want. The opposite of a light meal. At $12.95, this entree was quite the deal, and it was far too much for me to eat, despite my hunger, so I got a lunch out of it, too. We also took home a slice of carrot cake and a brownie. This is a diner after all. Also half decent (I'd probably recommend the carrot cake over the brownie) I've had much better diner desserts, but it's just hard to turn down cheap diner dessert sugar bombs. read more

I remember visiting this location back when it was Johnny D's. Ikaros is actually a vast improvement with diner staples, simple but hearty menus and super down to earth and friendly staff. My family came here for a weekday breakfast and were pleasantly surprised at their morning specials. Seriously, $2.99 for eggs, toast and hash browns is unheard of in California so I nearly fell off my seat when I saw that option on the breakfast menu. All in all, food was freshly prepared and everyone was very happy with their plates. Coffee and beverage refills kept coming and our server was very attentive. Excellent east coast style diner. If I were visiting longer I definitely would have gone back for lunch or dinner. read more

I had French toast which is pretty easy but it was good. The ginger ale tasted funny, and apparently so did the coke. The other food was also average. We had half of the restaurant to ourselves.
