I originally chose Lola's for its location -- halfway between me and the friend I was meeting. She is also gluten-free, so wanted to be sure she had many options. And boy did they!! I'm sharing again that I rarely give 5 stars for a first-time visit, but Lola's gets it. Yes, it's small -- but it's not cramped. You just want to get there early if you're dining in. What we had was so fresh and delicious -- my friend got a sort of bowl with fresh apples and grilled chicken, and I got the cobb salad. Delicious, not overwhelming, but perfectly filling. Can't wait to return -- my goal is to eat my way through the entire menu. :)

I wish every casual restaurant was more like Lola's: *personable interactions with staff (like, they are inquisitive and want to make sure you get what you need) *menus that cater to mainstream and vegan/vegetarian audiences (and with plenty of options on both) *reasonably-priced ($12-14 for most plates) We tried the blueberry tofu sandwich and the thai peanut tofu wrap and they were both fantastic! I appreciate that the vegetarian options tended to have protein in them rather than just lacking meat. I also tried the peanut noodles and they were to die for...next time I might ask for extra! Inside is cute, and although it's small with square footage, there are actually lots of places to sit and eat. They have a serve-yourself water station (that their helpful staff pointed out to us, even suggesting that we simply ask the folks in line to excuse us so we can get to the water). Quick, easy, DELICIOUS, and affordable. Wins all around.

2nd time getting food here and still does not disappoint! Braised short rib grilled cheese was RIDICULOUS! So good and will be my go to!

Lola's Cafe on Washington Street in Poughkeepsie is located close to the Metro North train station. That made it a convenient place to grab a quick bite as I was dropping my daughter off to catch the train. It's small, clean and friendly. The staff and the customers tend to be young. Marist College is nearby. I picked a Baja Chicken wrap. A side dish came with the order so I picked a black bean and corn salad. It was a nice meal that came relatively quickly. The food was good but not extraordinary in anyway. The seating was comfortable but the tables are too close together. I would have preferred to have not overheard the conversations of the college students to my right or the mother and son to my left discussing more serious matters. But we were seated so close together that it felt as though we were sharing tables. I get the fact that the staffers are doing their best with a small space.

The food here was good. Everyone enjoyed what they had. My husband had the brisket grilled cheese and he really enjoyed it. Love the vibe in here and a good selection of drinks in the fridges at the back. We came on a busy lunchtime and all the seats were taken. We Were told by a member of the wait staff that they would seat us when seats became available and we tucked ourselves out of the way but then another groups of 4 came in and asked another member of staff and sat down before us. Just a word of caution as I feel like it should have been a seat yourself situation and then we would have been on the look out. Otherwise really enjoyed.

We decided to go to Lola's after a very quick research for a place for lunch that had vegetarian options. What a great surprise to get there and not only see those options, but also a vegan menu! Even my husband decided to order vegan after that. My Thai wrap was divine, side of fries on point. My husband ordered a blueberry tofu sandwich that was pretty good, and the side of peanut noodles was so delicious. We were so happy to find a place with plenty of vegetarian options, the staff was very friendly, and overall, just good vibes! We will definitely come back.

TLDR: I got delivery and ordered some items that weren't quite my style, but this place has a good looking menu with other items I would gladly try, and you shouldn't hesitate to try this place too. Onto the details: My meal here was more of a three star meal, but I am upgrading to four in good faith. For one, my order was DoorDash. My food and experience may have been totally different if I had dined in house. Many people exclaim the food is fresh and the service is great! I ordered the BLAT, a grilled sandwich with bacon, baby greens, avocado, tomato, and chipotle mayo on toasted whole wheat. My sandwich was a little over-toasted for my taste, and I wonder if they used butter or maybe that's where the mayo comes in? Because it was a little oily in my opinion. The bread overpowered the ingredients. I also feel the sandwich could have used some seasoning with some pepper or other spices. That's just my opinion! Really! There wasn't anything egregiously wrong with this sammie, I just have preferences for lightly toasted bread without the use of butter or mayo for the toast. I had the red fox wrap as well, made with crispy chicken tenders, melted cheddar cheese, bacon, Cole slaw, romaine lettuce, and BBQ sauce. This was a pretty good tasting wrap with a lot of great texture, but the BBQ sauce was a little sweet for me (again, my preference, it's a me thing, not a them thing). The fries that came with each dish were a pretty small portion, but I'm not sure that's a bad thing. The sandwich/wrap were pretty filling, so it might be just the right amount. I got the spicy peanut noodles and pesto pasta salad. I think most people would be a fan of these, but for me they were a little heavy on the vinegar or sauce and light on seasoning. They reminded me of something you might have at a family potluck. Would probably be a family gathering or office lunch crowd-pleaser, again, but again not my thing. Aside from always giving businesses the benefit of the doubt, this place has a pretty good-looking menu--maybe I just didn't pick the best things for my particular palate. They have all kinds of wraps--baja chicken, street corn steak, turkey club, autumn chicken. Sandwiches--short rib grilled cheese, hot chicken, burgers. Pitas and paninis--grilled ahi tuna, chipotle turkey, chicken bruschetta, tomato mozzarella, turkey brie. They also have bowls, soup, gluten free dishes, various sides and salads. Will try again.

Lola's is so amazing! Everything I tried has been wonderful. My favorite is their peanut noodles as a side, especially as one who isn't a big fan of fries. Their flavor is insane, I just wish there was a little bit bigger of a serving. My only other downfall is their hours. Monday - Saturday 10-6 really limits being able to go!!

Ordered the Caesar salad with meat and it was a solid choice. The salmon was cooked perfectly and had a nice crust on the outside. Romaine was fresh and the croutons were crunchy without being too hard. The dressing had a bold, garlicky flavor which I liked. Our server checked in just enough and refilled drinks quickly. The place was bright and not too noisy. I'd order this again for sure.

This place is awesome! The food is good, the ingredients are fresh and well-made, and the staff is very friendly. The ambience is festive and relaxed. A lot of people coming off the walkway choose to eat here. The one downside is the lack of parking. You can find street parking usually, but it does get busy. We ordered three bowls, and everything was delicious. There were no errors in our dishes and we loved it. I would highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back.

After a long drive up to PK we were starved and stumbled into Lola's. We lucked up on some street parking but did notice a small parking lot in the rear of the restaurant. Lola's is such a lovely cafe with the cutest interior setup. After being greeted and taking a look at the menu, we ordered and found a seat at the window bar. For me the Asian Chicken Salad and Paris tea from Harney and Son's. For the lady a Red Fox wrap and fries. The food was so fresh, and tasty. Lola's is known for their peanut noodles so I grabbed a small container of those from their cooler, as well as a chocolate cream pie and chocolate chip cookie. Everything was so good and service was amazing. You can tell by their customer base that Lola's is well loved in the community. Serving up Wraps, Salads, Soups, and Breakfast, from a large menu, with monthly specials, Lola's is a place to eat, commune and work. Excited to return.

Instead, we found a culinary gem. The space is spectacular -- bright, open, and surrounded by relaxing river ambiance. We began our evening on the outdoor balcony, but a sudden thunderstorm dropped a tsunami of rain prompting a quick relocation into the equally welcoming main dining room. Our waiter, a charming young man from Hungary, gave us an excellent primer on the menu, which expertly balanced accessible staples with high-end luxury (creeping all the way up to an eye-popping $155 Wagyu steak special -- there were only 15 servings available for the night we later found out). As Port lovers, we were floored by the beverage options. Living outside of Philadelphia, we're used to restaurants offering one or two uninspired Tawnys. Shadows boasts an embarrassment of riches. Our waiter candidly confessed Port wasn't his forte and quickly dispatched the sommelier, Enrique. The fluid, passionate back-and-forth that followed was incredible; we learned more about wine in five minutes with Enrique than in decades of traveling. We gladly handed him the steering wheel for the rest of the night. Because we were celebrating my birthday, we went all in. My wife crossed caviar off her bucket list and tried the delectable octopus -- a substantial steak rather than the usual fried bits at most establishments. After some enabling from my wife, I went temporarily insane and ordered the Wagyu. As frequent diners, it was the priciest plate I've ever ordered, and it was worth every single penny. From the kitchen's flawless execution to exceptional hospitality that extended from the GM to the bus staff, the evening was perfect. Yes, we dropped a small fortune, but entirely by choice -- the menu accommodates nearly all budgets. We left feeling like we made out like bandits because the memories were priceless. Several times during dinner I literally felt envious of the locals. I hope they realize what a treasure they have in their midst.

I found mixed results with the food. The flatbread appetizer and cheesecake dessert was very good. I ordered steak as my entree and the server asked if I wanted it cooked rare, medium, or well done. I asked for medium rare and she said they couldn't do that. What kind of high end restaurant can't cook a steak medium rare? I found the cut I received to be way too overcooked. If you're looking for a place with a great view, stop by. Just don't order steak.

Service was great from everyone: friendly, attentive and welcoming all around. That said, awesome service and history can only carry a restaurant but so far. We were told their long-standing chef of 30+ yrs either resigned(?) or didn't want to work here(?) and based on what my coworker told me- that she noticed a difference in the cooking not too long ago when she came here. Sadly, it shows. Our escargots were extremely salty. My husband's pork chop was salty. His vegetables also salty. At that point, I held out hope that my Chilean sea bass might at least redeem the evening. No such luck. Salty again. Even the mushroom risotto- which actually had delicious flavor, was overpowered by too much salt. By then, after one appetizer and two entrées all salty, we figured dessert would at least save the night. Nope. I ordered profiteroles with chocolate gelato instead of vanilla and was truly looking forward to them. Except, the profiteroles were rock hard. The chocolate drizzle tasted like Hershey's syrup, making the dessert taste cheap for a restaurant of this type. My husband, who always goes for sorbet, ordered the mango flavor- but to me it tasted like an unripe mango blended with sugar just to make it palatable.. If you're from the Caribbean or know a true mango taste, you know exactly what I mean. And don't even get me started on the cocktails- they tasted more like juice than actual drinks. At the end of the night, we realized we weren't imagining things. A $245 dinner with weak cocktails, overly salty food and disappointing desserts was no balance for a restaurant with such a long-standing history. For that reason... we out.
