We stopped into Tomato Cafe on the way to a Renegades game, and I'm glad we did. We were seated quickly by the pleasant wait staff. We saw all the seats were taken on the front patio, so figured we would have to sit inside. We were pleasantly surprised more outdoor seating in the back patio. Very nice set-up, made us feel like we were in our own backyard. Very comfortable setting. The turkey rueben and fries were delicious, and only $12. Caesar Salad was very fresh and not too overly dressed. The Creamy Potato soup was chock full of flavor, but a little pricey at $8 for a cup. Tomato soup was definitely the best I ever had, so savory and well seasoned, appreciate that it was very mellow in acidity. Glad the places named for tomatoes did it well. For the linguini pomodoro, I was bit mixed, loved the pomodoro sauce, but I think the dish would better with different type of pasta, since linguini is better for seafood or cream sauces. The server we had was amazing! She was so sweet and bubbly. We stopped in for a late lunch and it was moderately busy, no wait for a table. Food came pretty quickly! The food I'd say was fairly standard- spouse and I ordered a chicken parm sandwich (super bready) and a pastrami Rueben. The Rueben had good flavors, but the bread was sturdier than a classic rye, so when toasted it was pretty crunchy and scraped up the top of my mouth. In the past I ended up going to the Greek restaurant and the German restaurant that are literally a few walking feet away on the same side of the block, mostly because the Tomatoe Cafe closes at 3pm on sundays. But, arrive in time as it is worth going for lunch!!!! The menu was WONDERFUL! Many delicious choices with options that are vegetarian friendly! Most importantly, the food is delicious and FRESH! First off, beverages were ordered. As usual my sweetheart ordered green tea with lemon and honey. I ordered coffee with half and half and Splenda. The coffee was watery. ( I guess I prefer strong coffee and will select a different option next time. The wait staff/ waiters and staff whip around the place with energy and enthusiasm! The young man that welcomed us at the front door was so friendly and welcoming! It was very very nice to receive such a warm welcome. The front counter display is wonderfully full of desserts, pecan crusted honey buns, cream cheese iced carrot cake, cheesecake and more. What an amazing sight. I knew I wanted dessert just from seeing that case! At the counter is a also container of m&m's for visitors to take a scoop when at the counter. How awesome is that! So overall, food=9.5, atmosphere 7.5, beverages 6.5, service greeted enthusiastically so greet gets a 10, and waiter was attentive but with one part snarky so he gets an 8. Ordered delivery on a busy, very stormy Friday night. My delivery driver never delivered! I thought perhaps the weather had caused an issue in some way. Matt from the cafe called me directly and apologized not only for the 2 hour delay, but for my meal having not been delivered. He then told me that the meal would be comped and that he would bring it to my house, himself (I live near the cafe). He arrived in good time, my food was warm, fresh, and, as always, delicious. Plus, there was an added nice treat to the meal- some chocolate chip cookies. Talk about SERVICE! I am so grateful to Matt and the cafe for being so kind and generous. Our table and chairs were thoroughly cleaned with disinfectant and they provide disposable menus. All staff wears mask and gloves. The food: delish! I ordered the harvest salad and added grilled chicken. Balsamic dressing on the side really complements the salad well and as the right amount of tang to counterbalance the mild soft and mellow flavor of the goat cheese. It was as easy as calling in, putting an order for a couple of pizzas, and paying over the phone via credit card. 20 mins later I was able to pick up my pizza curbside with zero hassle. I am not from this state, but was visiting for the day and was told this spot had good food. It was a 3 minute drive from my friends house and I was hungry. I will say that everyone was VERY friendly upon entry. I was immediately approached and handed a menu. There was no where to sit, so I opted for take out. I ordered the bacon pizza and a small penne alla vodka with a breaded chicken patty on top. Needless to say, as a foodie, I was EXTREMELY disappointed in the pasta. Penne vodka is supposed to be creamy in an orange sauce! This had ZERO sauce and was dry. It was a DISGRACE to all penne vodkas out there. It's like the chef forgot what he was making! Or maybe he ran out of sauce! That has to be the only explanation. The breaded chicken was okay but what else can be said about a fried patty? The pizza and the customer service was good, which is why I am giving them 3 stars. Why didn't I take it back? My car refused to start when I went to leave so had to leave my car on the street and uber to my rental.
