Food quality / price (value) rating 9. The atmosphere is contemporary modern. The menu is Italian / pub fusion with modern twists on tavern favorites. The venue itself is art deco style, kept immaculately clean (including the restrooms). I had the Grilled Chicken sandwich with avocado and aioli sauce, with Tuscan fries (house cut I'm told) both of which were very good. The wife had the Honey Chicken Ginger Salad and we both agreed that it was excellent. Our server, Jenny, deftly handled the full bar, the bar dining area, and the drink orders for the entire restaurant. There was a dessert special of Italian Lemon Cake offerred, but unfortunately, I couldn't convince my wife to split it. The prices were very reasonable, and the food was very good. It slightly pains me to write this review, as my first experience at Cosimo's was soooooo good. Let's get on with it tho. We visited on the Friday before V-day, the house was packed around 18:30. The wait was 45 mins which wasn't too bad for a Friday night. We decided to wait in the lobby after trying to find a cozy waiting spot near the bar and missing. My wife attempted to order me a mocktail, but of course the bar was crazy busy. When the bartender finally acknowledged her, the mocktail requests obviously threw the bartender for a loop because I ended up with watered down ginger beer and a sprig of mint. My advice for anyone looking for a virgin drink at this bar would be to order a club soda with lime and call it a night. We were seated at the 45 min mark, and were escorted to the packed bar, where they have some exterior tables for diners. My seat was in the middle of the couch split, which I found mighty uncomfortable so we opted to request a seat in the main dining room, which the staff happily obliged. With dinner we ordered hot tea and were given lukewarm water and a choice of Stash teas. Our beverage experience here was very disappointing. The calamari arrived and may have been the only highlight, although we didn't find it to have that fresh calamari texture. My wife ordered a ravioli with mushroom, and felt the pasta and veggies were just swimming in butter. I ordered my steak medium and it was okay, but the juices from the greens made the croquettes soggy, and unenjoyable. The server did his best, and all the staff here are so kind. I have been to this location a few times in the past and it was always great. I went here recently on a Tuesday night and it wasn't that great sadly. The restaurant was crowded as usual but it only took us a few minutes to get a table. The lighting was very dim in our area and it was hard to read the menus. The waiter was attentive and brought out bread and oil - the bread was terrible tasting - not sure if it was rye bread or wheat bread but it did not go well with the olive oil so we left what remained. We ordered appetizers of calamari and fried mozzarella - the calamari was very good - the fried mozzarella not so much - we knew it had prosciutto in it but the ham flavoring was very strong and we did not like the flavor so we didn't eat it. My meal came with a caesar salad which looked great on the plate but the romaine lettuce was very bitter and it needed more dressing, more parm and more croutons. I ate about half and left the rest. Hubby had the ravioli which was fine - nothing to write home about. I ordered the seafood rizotto which sounded great on the menu but when I received it unfortunately the lemon wine sauce was very acidic and the rizotto was very clumpy, mushy and thick due to the liquid at the bottom. I ate about half and took the rest home but it was worse the next night sadly. With everything being just ok this time around we were quite disappointed and hope that our next visit is much improved. read more

Do you ever wish you can transport anywhere at any time? After my visit to Cosimo's I immediately wished I had one of these near where I live but was fortunate enough to go here twice on our two night vacation to Poughkeepsie. The menu is very large and has many amazing looking pastas. I went with the PACCHERI (PA-KER-EE) ARRABIATA (Oversized Rigatoni, Spicy San Marzano Tomato Sauce, Charred Onion, Pancetta, Ricotta Salata) and at twenty bucks for the whole meal it does not break the bank. The Ricotta Salata cheese was an outstanding accompaniment to the pasta provoking a strong and vibrant flavor mixing with the mild heat from the Arrabiata sauce. I got the CEO burger on my next visit which consists of 8oz of angus meat and chefs' mayo which packs some heat. They have some good drink options, and I went with their Italian lager which was excellent. On my two-day excursion to Poughkeepsie, I fell in love with both restaurants my girlfriend and I went to. So I have not yet found the entree that I love from here, but my husband has (which is a big ask because he's picky) and my son loves being here! My extended family also love the food from here and my favorite dish so far here is the caesar salad and I like to add the anchovies. So yum! My husband gets a pesto pasta, their seafood fra diavolo and various pastas with clams or shrimp were enjoyed by the in-laws. Staff is very nice and the place is always packed (see the parking lot). My son loved the big windows and the high ceilings made the space feel very open. We love coming here when we visit our Aunt and they also do reservations through Resy. If they had a location closer to Brooklyn, we'd be there too much :) read more

Unfortunately this restaurant has gone downhill. I understand food costs are up but to serve old sauce on one of their signature dishes Rigatoni a Buttera and think they can fool customers is not a good business decision. Eggplant Parmesan with a cheap mozzarella. Noticeably different. Lastly the calamari one of their signature dishes the size has been cut down and surrounded by a lagoon of sauce - the presentation is horrible. Just do a smaller size and sauce on the size. I would never serve this in my own home. Service was slow and we took our bill up to the counter to get out of the restaurant. For the cost of dinner, we will not be visiting again in the near future until food and service improves. read more

What a lovely find! We were in the area for a couple of days and discovered Cosimo's as a casual but stylish setting. We decided to give it a try after our walk on the bridge. A great decision it was! Even on a Monday night the parking lot was packed. The restaurant too! We were a little ambitious tonight with our food but it was so nice trying so many things. The fried calamari appetizer was crisp, delicious and HUGE. What a deal it was! We enjoyed a wild mushroom pizza as an appetizer along with mozzarella sticks (also huge). The portions were so generous but with high quality. If you like mushrooms and Gorgonzola cheese; then this pizza is a unique one to try. Each one of us ordered our own entrees but I'll speak to the one I had. It was the white clams linguini. I typically don't order it because it is usually lacking clams or have too much butter. This was perfect. A large amount, many many clams, and not too oily! Not too salty either. I'd say this was a 5 star quality dish. Everyone else seemed to love theirs - honey ginger salad, sausage pasta, herb chicken, kids meal pizza. The waiter Casey was fantastic. The waiters were kind. We loved Cosimo's and actually ate here 2 days in a row. I have Celiac's Disease so restaurants that care about Gluten Free options and safety are a must. I ordered the GF Formaggi Wood Fired Pizza - mozzarella, provolone, fontina, parmigiano and gorgonzola cheese - and added portobello mushrooms and calamata olives. It's a very thin, crispy crust, and was delicious. The next day I ordered the CBO Burger - 8oz black angus burger with jalapeño smoked bacon, onion, provolone and chef's mayo (tastes like thousand island) with a side Caesar salad - they don't have GF buns, so I ordered with no bun. It was delicious! My favorite meal of the trip! Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area. read more

Some of the menu is decent and enjoyable while other items can be bland and Sysco-quality. It unfortunately is what it is for much of American dining nowadays. Regardless, the restaurant is beautiful and service is great. There's a reason why places stay open and this is a prime example of that. This is a very good restaurant. Parking lot filled on Halloween night. Had the pasta fagoli which should be a staple for any Italian restaurant. Excellent and delicate. Had an interesting salad with the grilled chicken under the salad which was flatten and covered with pesto ..... palliard style. The salad part was very good and the chicken was good but slightly dry which can occur because it's a flattened and a thin cutlet The service and staff was excellent and ambiance comfortable but fairly dark where I ate. We came here while visiting the area on a Saturday night. This place was average and your stereotypical Italian chain restaurant. It was pretty packed but we got seated quickly and they have a bar inside & tv screens for you to watch the game. The service overall was good and super quick. They provide some bread & olive oil + balsamic vinegar for you to nibble on which was nice. In terms of food, we got the spicy chicken fusilli pasta and nick's pie. The pasta was interesting... they garnished the dish with scallions which seemed super weird and did not compliment the dish and the chicken was not good. It tasted very rubbery but the overall pasta itself was good and the sauce had good flavor. The pizza was very underwhelming because the dough was undercooked. The pizza was super soggy so it was falling apart when we picked it up and the flavors just weren't it. For dessert, we got the warm chocolate lava cake which had a coffee crunch ice cream and it was good! A solid lava cake. Overall, not super impressed and if you're visiting town, I would recommend trying somewhere else instead. read more

For Sunday afternoon around 2pm they were busy but not packed, we were immediately seated in a booth in the bar area for a party of 5. The bread basket is a nice touch especially considering the service was on the slower side, not the fault of the bartender as the bar was overflowing with other customers. He was very attentive while at the table but wasn't floating around, the buser(s) were very helpful with some additional requests, etc. The main reason we frequent Cosimo's is that they have great options for the entire family including a great children's menu. We stopped in on a cold Thursday for dinner and the place is packed!! Still, we were seated right away and service was super fast. They served us a bread basket with oil and olives to dip which were really good. The olives were nice and fresh, not like some olives that sit in a jar soaking for years. We ordered espresso martinis which my hubby and I are comparing the taste of this cocktail throughout the Hudson Valley - a thing we started last year - and this was okay. Not the best we've had but okay. I had the chicken franchise which I throughly enjoyed. A big chicken filet and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauce was nice and lemony. The hubby was less impressed with his dish but I thought the veal was good. I hardly ever order veal but this was still crispy even though it had plenty of sauce. I thought his rice was also good. For dessert we ordered pizzeppole. They were lightly sugared with powdered sugar and a light drizzle of caramel. I thought they were also good. They're basically zeppoles. We had a really nice waitress who was also the bartender. She was super busy but took good care of us. The place is decorated nicely too, for the holidays. I was so glad to have found this place. I had never been to Poughkeepsie and I have to say food options are not the best. The restaurant is very nice, inside and outside as well. The only complaint is that there were several tables but they chose to sit us in a room with a table of about 14 that were very loud. Our waiter was great though so we dealt with the noise. We had fried calamari to start, one of the best I've ever had. Served with a deli hot marinara sauce. We also had the pasta with ham and mushrooms and the fish with polenta. We loved it all! I'm so glad there are spots like Cosimo's in the Hudson Valley. We planned out our day with our hotel concierge. After we finished our walk over the Hudson, we made our way to have lunch at Cosimo's. Walking into the space, its very large! I see a big pizza oven, Cosimo's is making their dough on premise for their breads and pizzas. It's lunch, I dont want to eat too heavy so my wife & I split a salad as well as the Prosciutto and Fig Flatbread. The Prosciutto and Fig Flatbread, amazing flavors! Touched with a hot of balsamic vinegar, this was a great starter. The Toscano Pear Salad was enough to share. The salad had sliced pear, toasted walnut, cranberries, shaved Pecorino Toscano and tossed in a Prosecco Vinaigrette. Perfecto! We each had a glass of Italian wine, this was the perfect lunch to finish up a perfect afternoon. Cosimo's is in the heart of the Poughkeepsie business district. Thanks to great Yelp reviewers, I found Cosimo's! They have 4 restaurants and we dined at their Poughkeepsie location. The 4 of us thought the food was well prepared with fresh ingredients. I ordered the Boscaiola with linguine and thought it was fantastic. My wife had the Chicken Francaise and loved it as well. Even the bread they serve when you're seated was excellent. Our server, Tom, did an outstanding job taking care of us. He made sure we had what we needed, but never rushed us. If you're in the Poughkeepsie area, I'd definitely recommend stopping here to eat! read more

Whatever going on cosmos will no longer eat/order after many years. Too bad. Eating at Cosimos many years including Newburgh location before Poughkeepsie opened. One of my favorite restaurants. Ordered takeout today Uber favorite roast chicken Tuscan soup. Tiramisu/cannoli. Soup delicious along with fresh bread as always. Noticed chicken looked really burnt. Certainly was. Wing and leg burn so bad hard as a rock. A blackened dried out mess. . Can't believe Chef allowed to leave kitchen that way. Charred so bad whatever they did not only affected chicken, also potatoes and spinach picked up flavor, absolutely disgusting. Only dinner had so tried to eat but just too horrible. Terrible aftertaste still can't get rid of and sick to my stomach later in evening. Assume bit food poisoning. Notice here another person 17 days ago said also got food poisoning. Don't know what's going on in kitchen at Cosmos's but this is completely unacceptable. tiramisu actually was not good either overly soaked with the liquor. Like mush. Cannoli was good. Hope they will take action to rectify whatever is going on in kitchen as again don't see how anyone could've let that meal go out. Visually obvious, smell obvious iwas bad. Have a feeling that chicken was sitting around quite a while and then thrown under a fire. obviously chef did not care consequences would be. Which is me up at 4 AM with bad stomach pains. Reached out restaurant. They were nice about it. offered another meal if could come pick up which I can't that's why ordered Uber. Going through Uber now see if can get refund. But won't change how I'm feeling right now. Hopefully this will be made right on every level and I can write another review saying things are better. Please look into that chef.
