Not great. Sauce was watery and not anything special, "imported spaghetti" was like ronzoni from our local stop and shop. Meatballs were lukewarm and tasteless. 2 glasses of wine for me and my wife each was $65. Note, wine was cheap brands and portions small. The three stars are for my wife's lasagna which she said was good and the garlic bread that was tasty. Oh and for the waiter who was nice. I haven't eaten at Milanese in probably 30 years and often ate there after our Wednesday night Tae Kwon Do class. My father ordered lasagna for us to eat for Thanksgiving and the food is absolutely amazing. Since we live in Oklahoma now, there isn't an Italian restaurant with lasagna that's this good. My husband and I went here on Saturday night. The food was excellent. I had fillet of sole and my husband had penne a la vodka with chicken. Delicious. The service was unfortunately lacking. Our waitress wasn't very attentive and friendly. We had to ask to refill our water twice. She took my plate and napkin by accident and didn't seem to notice or care. The worst part was the wait. There were only a couple servers on the restaurant side and they ended up having a huge party going on in the other room which spilled over. We ordered the Baked Stuffed Clams for an appetizer. There were 5 and they were good but not as large as we would normally get from a seafood restaurant. We both love the fresh homemade garlic bread they serve in the bread basket! My son had Pollo Contadina which he loved. It's his new favorite! I had chicken parm with a side of penne. Tiramusu for dessert of course! Had an excellent meal at this classic Italian restaurant. The food and service couldn't be better. Our table of 6 were treated with such care, we felt like family. There was an event happening, yet we still felt like we were their top priority. We were even treated to a few sleight of hand tricks by the clever owner, a legend in the area. I believe somewhere during the meal I heard someone belt out a delightful version of 'Volare'. I feel like we were transported to Italy for the evening. Exceptional food- I had the burrata ravioli with ragu sauce. A 10 out of 10 and would order it again, except I'd love to try their other offerings. We were warmly welcomed when we walked in. We have no reservation but in less than 10 minutes we were seated by the owner himself. It was a busy Saturday night but the staff were working fast as they can be so they could sit people waiting but not rushing people still dining. Our waitress get our order right away and served our drinks, bread then salad in less than we were expecting. As I was looking on everyone, they all seemed enjoying their night. The place has family ambiance and it is a perfect place to spent time with the people you love. There were about four celebrations happening during our stay. Our food arrived, home cooked Italian food smells nicely and it tasted very good. I had linguine clam, and it was I am expecting, light and tasty. My husband had meatball spaghetti. He seemed liking it because he almost finished what's on his plate even the serving portion is large. We never had room for dessert. The owner came down us to say thank you for coming. It seems like the staff is all family members if not like family relationship. It is a nice place to come and dined , you will have a homey feeling during your stay. We've ordered out from here with great results & finally decided to visit. Unexpectedly great vibe in the dining room with families and large tables enjoying loud dinners all around. Service was a little touch & go but overall reliable. Portions were generous, food was better than our take-home. A suggestion for ownership though, my Negroni should not have been served in a pint glass. That's a ton of booze. A classic New York area Red Sauce Joint complete with the statues, period decorations, classic Italian food, fantastic friendly and professional service all delivered in an unhurried way. Really enjoyed my time here. The restaurant had a nice environment with friendly staff. We were able to sit on the outer side of the restaurant, socially distanced away from other people. We got free bread for the table that was soft and fragrant. The appetizers were all amazing! If red wine could be an option for you, I would definitely recommend having it with the appetizers. To start, Milanese is a Poughkeepsie landmark and should be treated as such! I have lived in Poughkeepsie my entire life, and one regret that I have is that I should have eaten here more. the outside of this restaurant with old school neon sign is exactly what you get on the inside and with the food. You immediately walk into the bar area where there is a table that most often has a few of the elderly female family members sitting there eating and speaking Italian. This place has been here for a long time, and it shows inside and out in a great way in my opinion! When you eat here you feel comfortable as if you were eating at your grandparents house for a family meal. The original owner still comes around and does a few slight of hand magic tricks table side which everyone always loves! I haven't been here in a few years, but this was a restaurant my dad enjoyed. My dad hated eating out for the most part, and hated spending money on nice restaurants, but when I came home for my first visit after moving to California for school, I was surprised that he insisted on taking us out to dinner here and it was DELICIOUS Italian food (veal marsala, chicken piccata, and more) with amazing portions. Our family had a wonderful time. He passed away last year around this time, which made me think of this place and check to see how things are going. After hiking at Minnewaska state park preserve, me, my wife and a friend stayed for the night in Poughkeepsie, NY. It was late Saturday afternoon when we finished our hiking and the three of us were already famished, we went to a few breweries along Main Street but all of them have no available table, they were not taking reservations when I called them earlier. As we walked along Main Street we were lucky to stumble on this gem Italian restaurant. As soon as we went in we were nicely greeted by their staff and owner, we asked a table for three, and we were informed that there will be an available table momentarily, we did not have to wait too long and we were seated at a very nice table. We ordered immediately as we were already very hungry, they took our orders and immediately served us our drinks, complimentary garlic bread and sour bread. It was a nice family atmosphere restaurant, they were very busy, restaurant was full of costumers but they are very gracious in making sure that everyone was given attention. I had spaghetti con polpatte Bolognese, my wife had linguine clam and my friend had pollo parmigiano. They gave huge servings, my spaghetti tasted excellent, staff frequently checked on our needs, place is very clean, a very good homey and friendly place to eat dinner. I am not surprised that their business is still going ever since they started 1969. This is the kind of place where you will always feel comfortable going and eating at. Good & Bad Sharon & I both checked out the menu on-line so we knew what were would order. Plus we had a carafe of Montepulciano wine. The lasagne was excellent - the best or second best I've ever had. The ravioli con bolgnese tasted like marinara. The waiter listen to Sharon and brought a saucer of bologese sauce. We each tasted the sauce and detected some very small pieces of beef about 1/16th of an inch. The manager also listen to us but offered no solution. Regretably our solution was for me to share my excellent lasagne with Sharon. Besides us sharing my dinner I can think of four possible solution the restaurant could have offered. I think if I was a restant manager or a chef I could think of many more. Afterthought: I google bolognese. MORE INFO After being sat 30 minutes after reservation 10 minutes b4 waiter came ove 10 minutes for 2 more menus. 10 more for drinks 1st round Finally able to order 15 minutes later 20 minutes later first half of apps came out 15 mins later 2nd half came after stopping waiter and asking. 4 requests before 2nd round of drinks( 30 mins) Food out 30 mins later. -----Almost 2 hours to get dinner I spent 20 years in managing restaurants(front and back). If wasn't for company I would have walked out. Missed 1/2 of comedy show already paid for !!! We really thought 2 hours would have been enough for a nice relaxing dinner. read more

I ordered the Veal Saltimbocca which was absolutely delicious. The sauce was the best part and the meats were on par for the course. My girlfriend had the penne ala vodka with chicken. The pasta was perfectly cooked but the chicken was a bit dry. We both had a complimentary salad with an Italian dressing in addition to the meal (They had good table bread as well). The service was prompt and polite. In addition, there was not a single soul besides the staff at the rest but granted it was a Wednesday and I have no complaints when it comes to dining with fewer people around me. Great meal tonight with friends at the Milanese. The bread was fresh and hot. The blue cheese on my salad dressing was light and delicious . My husband had chicken cordon blue. It was done differently then expected and really delicious. I forget the name of my dish but it was mussels, clams and crab over linguini. It was perfect. We finished the night with a great cappuccino. During the meal one of the family members came to our table and entertained us with fabulous magic tricks that left us wanting more. I've lived in Dutchess County for over 25 years and have never eaten here despite always hearing good things. The loss was all mine. My family and I ate here today for the first time and it was terrific. The other reviews are correct about the decor. The place is nothing to look at from the outside although having their own parking lot makes it super convenient. While the inside looked like it was from another era it was familiar. The warm familiarity of being at my Italian grandparents house as a boy, right down to the curtains, the furniture and the pictures. Let's face it though - we weren't there for the decor. A look at the well worn menus let me know we'd be in for a treat. Any place still serving Tripe, Braciola and Broccoli Rape still knows old-school Italian. The food was great from beginning to end. Shrimp Cocktail and Fried Calamari were are starters. The Shrimp Cocktail was classic and good. The Calamari was perfect. Crispy, not greasy, a large portion and fantastic dipping sauce. The bread was served hot and fresh, both plain and garlic and the waitress was more than happy to bring us a second basket. The dishes we had were Chicken Parmasean, Chicken Marsala (Served with Penne in red sauce) and Penne A'la Vodka with Chicken. All the dishes came with a salad that was perfect! A nice mix of greens and cherry tomatoes with a delicious house dressing. Everything was great. I can't remember a time where I couldn't think of one thing to improve. The desserts were great too. My Tiramisu was the best I've ever had. My wife got the cheesecake. Pretty standard fare. My daughter got the chocolate lava something. Even though I think the basic center of those come frozen (like the cheesecake I suspect) it was surrounded by vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Good stuff. The server was great as was the young man bussing our table. We were initially sat in the interior room and it seemed very dark. Spying a brightly lit room that had yet to have the tables set up, my wife asked if we could be seated there. Our server was more than happy to oblige, setting up a table just for us. If you live in Dutchess County and you've overlooked this place, do yourself a favor and try it out. I'm not an easy person to please but these guys hit it out of the park. So I went to dinner with my guy which he picked based on some menu items he saw online. However when we arrived they were not listed on the menu provided. That aside we ordered some appetizers. we shared a calamari which consisted of rings and about 8 tentacles stuck together by the breading. the sauce was a simple pizza sauce with almost no flavor. then on to our main courses, he had the veal Marsala and I had a shrimp risotto. both included a "house salad". the salads consisted of a single cherry tomato over a bed of mesclun mix and some shaved carrots hardly a salad if you ask me. both dishes consisted of more grease than you could find in a deep fryer! when my guy moved the sauce across his plate there was a 1/4" thick coating of grease he was so disgusted he couldn't even eat it at that point we asked for our check so we could leave but our waiter was so out of touch with the tables he was waiting on that he didn't even know there was a problem with the food . I wouldn't recommend sending a homeless starving dog here to eat . I can't believe this place is still open . read more
