I don't fault Gino's with the former because that is the responsibility of GrubHub. But I've had much better pizza & mozzarella sticks elsewhere. Let me start off by saying; although it says Pizza in the window it is definitely not your corner pizza place where you order by the slice or per cento joint! Right away you could tell this wasn't a hangout for High School kids. This is more of a Trattoria, a family run restaurant serving Italian food, with a casual atmosphere and with reasonable prices. Tables, flatware, subdued music and lighting. An upscale ambiance. You wouldn't guess it from the outside. It reminded us of some of the better places on Arthur Ave. in the Bronx's Little Italy. Tried the fried calamari, she the Chefs salad. It took a little while to get to the table, but we had delicious hot Italian bread and cold butter to keep us busy, and nice music in the meantime. Without exaggeration, I've had fried calamari hundred of times in scores of places. Some were disasters from the start others were pretty good. These were the best I've had in a very long time. Perfectly cooked morsels of joy and a marinara sauce that also tasted like it came from a 3 star Michelin restaurant. For an appetizer it was enough for two. Not like some dives that serve greasy, under or over cooked, impossible to chew rubber bands and tentacles to their guests and charge an exorbitant price for that frozen Restaurant Depot stuff. Gimme a break! Her Chefs salad was visually well composed and it too was a lot of food. Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, olives, and pinwheels of ham, provolone, and turkey. Authentic Italian dressing on the side. Oil, vinegar, and herbs. The way you would see in Rome or Tuscany. The pizza is decent however, the customer service could have been a lot better. We walked in on a quiet Thursday mid afternoon & ordered a pizza. Told it would be ready in 15 minutes so we walked around local stores & killed about 25 minutes. When we went back to pick up pizza it was not ready & it was obvious by hushed conversation between them the pizza was never made. The owner or manager told us there was a mistake & said pizza would be ready in 6-7 minutes which we thought didn't line up with making a new pizza. We left to kill more time & 20-25 minutes later the pizza was ready but no concession given. Mistake #1 - the pizza was never made Mistake #2 - doubling down & telling us pizza would be ready in much shorter time than they knew possible. They should have been honest so we could make an informed decision as to whether we'd like to wait Mistake #3 - not giving any concession for their error. It didn't have to be a free pizza but anything would have been appreciated...1/2 price, free toppings, whatever. I didn't think places like this still exist. Italian Family owned operation with 2-3 generations all in the kitchen! Such nice folks too and low prices. My advice, get the Sicilian, specify "thin crust, upside down with sauce over the cheese and a little fresh basil" and enjoy! A superb "Grandma Pie" will soon emerge at a very fair price point . The food was good but it took over an hour for us to get our food. We arrived before the evening rush and we ordered right away. After that, the waitress did not check in on us as to the status of our order and we had to ask for water, bread, etc. When we asked about the status of our order, instead of apologizing, she mentioned we should speak to the manager. When our food finally arrived, it was not hot therefore, it must have been sitting out for a while. We own a business and would not treat our customers that way. I hadn't been to Gino's in years. I remember Gino telling everyone how he only bought the best tomatoes even though they cost more, etc. Things have changed. Bread was not the crusty Italian I remember. Instead it was a softer bread, and not tasty. I ordered a spaghetti dish. This spaghetti tasted pasty, sticky, similar to overcooked pasta although it was not. The sauce was different also. The color was wrong and it was thick and salty. I was very disappointed with everything I ordered. Gino's used to be special. The food was excellent. Now the quality is gone. It's no better than any Italian restaurant in the area. I'm giving them three stars though because i waited over an hour for pizza and mozzarella sticks. I was told it would be 30 minutes and i showed up 30 minutes later only to be told it wasn't ready. I completely get being busy, just next time be upfront about the time it's going to make to prepare the food. Gino's is my favorite Italian Restaurant. Our family has been going there for over 30 years. We thought nothing of traveling over an hour each way on a Saturday night for an awesome dinner that starts with the fantastic pizza. My favorite dish is the veal parm with a spaghetti fradiavlo on the side. This is a warm family establishment that is filled with repeat customers. I have brought many business folks to dinner there and it never disappoints. Once you take someone there, they become a loyal customer as well. I've been going to Ginos for 20 years because the food is excellent. Not the service! It has gotten consistently worse and worse with longer and longer wait times. Tonight we ordered and after an hour asked for AT least the salad. We had to ask for it. Another 40 minutes passed before the entrees came and I couldn't eat I was so aggravated. The waitress was talking with customers who were packed up and ready to go while our entrees sat on the counter getting cold. I don't care how nice the renovations are if they don't get faster on cooking and service, I'm calling for takeout only and it better be ready when I get there. Went twice this week because I had a gift card to use up... never friendly when you arrive or call the order in on the phone. They act like they're doing you a huge favor by taking your order. Both times were takeout and the first time I waited ten minutes TO EVEN BE GREETED. Second time my family member went to get the food and waited 30 MINUTES past the time they told us to pick it up. My father and I have been coming to Ginos since I was young. There has never been a time I've eaten here and disliked the food. Their pizza is incredible especially when you dine in. I live in NYC and I still have not found a place with better pizza than Ginos. It's the first place I go when I come up from the city. Ordered 2 large pies for pick up: 1 plain, 1 meatball. Anyone and everyone knows that when you say 1 meatball pie, you're ordering 1 pie full of meatballs, not 1 pie that has literally 1 meatball on it. I've uploaded a picture to Yelp for this business as proof. $2.25 extra for what appears to be 1 meatball scattered over the pie. Extremely disappointing and outrageous. Second, they don't deliver, which is fine. However, if you know I'm coming to pick up pizza, why let it sit and get cold? The pizza was cold by the time I walked out the door and into my car. Third, we asked for them to be well done, which they weren't. For an Italian Restaurant, these are inexcusable mistakes. Very busy, cute little location in the bowling alley plaza. We didn't have to wait too long to get a seat. The service was a little slow, but the restaurant was full, so it was kind of expected. We ordered the garlic bread which was fantastic. The wine came in very small glasses. The portion sizes seem small but they are actually just the right amount without feeling too full. As we got closer to the end of our meal, the line of people waiting was starting to pour out the door. I kind of felt bad because there is no proper waiting area so they crowd the tables by the door. I have been going to this restaurant for over 5 years now and the food is always on point. You wait for it, but it's always fresh and delicious. Just don't be in a hurry if you're eating there. The waitresses are never in a hurry. On our last visit we waited 45 minutes for a table. No problem, they were busy. Once we were finally seated we were told our waitress would be right with us. 10 minutes later we asked where our waitress was as no one had stopped at the table yet. Meanwhile tables that were sat after us had already ordered and had drinks. Another 5 minutes of waiting and I went to ask the owner if he knew when we would be helped as we had now been at our table 15 minutes with no waitress. He told me he would be right there himself. 2 minutes later our waitress walks up, no apologies of any kind. Ordered water with lemon, was brought plain water. Order was finally placed and we waited another 30 minutes for our food. When it came time for the bill there was no discount, no offer of free dessert or no apology from any one. Sorry, but no matter how good the food is, I won't be back. Some people may enjoy a 2 hour meal, we don't. Waitresses need to step up their game or you're going to start losing more customers. read more
