Decided to have a diet cheat day today, first in 60 days! My taste buds were craving for a great pizza-and since I was in New York's Hudson Valley, the search was on! I had three different locals suggest Cosimo's which was close to my hotel.... Good pepperoni and mushroom pizza with tons of mozzarella cheese, more than enough to eat. The only downside to the food--the crust bottom was super soggy, to the point I had to eat my pizza with a fork (gasp!!). Was up for a Wedding Weekend and did some research on where to eat in Poughkeepsie, never having visited before. Cosimo's looked exactly like what we wanted. Gorgeous exterior and interior. The soaring ceilings, multiple rooms, bustling bar vibe -- this was going to be goood. Server lovely. Started with Old-Fashioneds and Fried Calimari -- great combo, and the drinks were made with an eye toward fashioning the best balanced Old-Fashioned we have had in a while. Cali -- let me say this: Perfectly fried, and tentacles aplenty. Those tentacles are what we like to call French Fries of the Sea, and Cosimo's knows what they are doing. We usually go more for the thin rings, but these were mighty tender and tasty. One tiny thing: Italians do not ever, ever use parm, or any cheese on any seafood. Ever. There was parm in the marinara, but it wasn't intrusive. I had a Margherita Pie, and my husband had his go-to for unvisited restaurants, simple chicken parm. Both were delightful. No room for dessert, although I wish there had been. Go. Enjoy. And don't forget to tip. The servers work hard. read more

The inside the restaurant is nicely done although it's usually pretty loud. Their eggplant and chicken parms are always a solid choice and I like that it's served with penne and not boring spaghetti. The pastas were ok, but since they were so large, and not cooled after boiling, continued to cook, thus getting past the point of al dente with each bite. Sub-par Italian food for this area. Try Coppola in Highland is much better. Veal Milanese was over cooked (crust was dark brown). The crispy polenta is not only not crispy, it is very soggy. There are 4 pieces of scallop size polenta in this app. Save yourself from this $17 travesty. read more

It was about 5PM on a Thursday when my party of three first arrived and we were seated right away, no wait. The interior is beautifully decorated giving the restaurant an upscale feel. The only critique to the interior I'd say is that the tables are very close together making the dining room feel less private and a little overwhelming. We were given bread and olive oil to nosh on as we waited for our meals. Although the wait time was literally under five minutes after we ordered. We were shocked when they brought out our food so quick! I have a dairy allergy and they were very accommodating and knowledgeable about their menu items and what I could eat. I order the pasta Al Pomodoro with grilled chicken. (Not necessarily an exact menu item but I was able to get that custom made which was a treat!) The main reason I took off a star is because I thought the food was average. The pasta sauce is very sweet and not very well seasoned in my opinion. As a local resident I dine here often. I'm never disappointed. I LOVE the honey ginger salad. Just great flavor. Rigatoni Buttera is probably my favorite pasta dish although I haven't tried them all. Spicy Chicken Fusilli is another favorite. The mozz sticks are by far the best I've had. The only negative I can say is about the women's bathroom. Not food related obviously, but I would love to see the restaurant put some money into it. Change the doors. They're dirty and falling apart a bit. Fresh coat of paint can make a big difference. Also, the most recent time I was there it clearly needed cleaning. The garbage was overflowing. read more

It's been a while since my last order and I was pretty upset with my last order. I decided to give them another shot. Maybe they were just having a bad day. This time around, was definitely better. My pizza was just a little burned on the edges and didn't taste like ash. The toppings were pretty hearty and I didn't think it was bad. Definitely not may favorite pizza but this was not the worst either. I enjoyed this crust over other gluten free crusts. My fiancé didn't like his pizza much unfortunately. Myself, my daughter, my son-in-law & my 3 young grandchildren went there on a Tuesday evening to celebrate my birthday. We made a reservation & glad we did, it was busy for a Tuesday night. We were seated promptly and our waitress came over immediately. She was very accommodating with bringing out bread for the young one's & getting our drinks. We decided to bypass the appetizers & order our dinner. The menu had something for everyone & we didn't wait too long for our food. The kids were thrilled with the bow ties & butter & the spaghetti. I had the Pork Cacciatore which I'm still thinking about, my daughter had Linguine with Clams sauce , made with fresh clams, my Son-in-law had one of their super burgers. Consistency in food, service, cleanliness, overall customer experience. Cosimo's in Poughkeepsie has it all. The regular menu is great as supplemented by the daily specials. The cocktail and wine menu are both familiar and adventurous. I have discovered wines that have become a part of our household selections. While we always love the Citrus Basil Salmon and Eight Hour Pork Cacciatore, the standout remains the staff. Luis and Julian bus tables as though they were in their own homes. Rich was the most hospitable and gracious waiter offering tastes of the newest wines on the menu. It's always a relaxing and pleasurable experience to visit Cosimo's. Always a lovely time. Tonight it was very busy and full. Parking lot was full and sone jackoff parked right at the curb where cars loop to another row blocking and handicapped cars from backing out. It's many 2 person tables so it can feel very cramped. Our server was absolutely chatty and personable. Didn't do apps cos I knew the main was gonna be big. The sausage and ricotta fusilli came home for seconds. They have good crème brûlée and their raspberry sorbet is absolutely stunning. read more

Food is good. Service is good. Ambiance is good. We sat in an area where the bartender was also waiting tables and he was clearly too busy to be 100% attentive. Probably best to let the bartenders be bartenders. Restaurants should really go back to pre Covid boxing up your leftovers. It's part of the service. I'm often invited here for work functions as I work at Marist. There's always folks here and the botchi out side is a cool feature. The place is beautiful inside and out. The bar is super nice and there's tons of corners and private areas for an intimate feeling. The food is always super delicious the servers are always super knowledgeable. Everything I've ever had is seasoned well and well garnished. I've actually never had anything I was. It super happy with! I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone. Our family has gone to Cosimo's quite often. We've brought out of town visitors because the food and service was impeccable. Tonight wasn't that experience. We waited over an hour for a table, and after finding that a number of tables were kept empty, we asked the host why aren't we being seated. We were told that it's "their" policy to have a two hour hold time/window for a table prior to the reservation arriving. Meaning that a table remains empty for two hours prior to any reservation for that table. How does that make any sense? Whose business decision was that? We were finally seated and soon found out that there were changes to some of our favorite items we order. First, the white pear cosmo was garnished with lime and tasted like a combination of pear and lime. There was no pear slice, which was a signature of the cocktail. We were told that many things were changing to make the restaurant uniform with the sister restaurants. We were never told this prior to ordering. Another item, Calamari Fra diavolo changed quite a bit. The item was not prepared as requested and it was served with this orange putrid looking sauce. It was always a flavorful hardy red sauce and was serve as a soupy orange colored sauce that was both flavorless and not spicy. We spoke with the manager and he parroted the same line of two hour window to defend the wait time and had no excuse or explanation for the sauce they served with the calamari. It's extremely delicious unfortunate because we've celebrated some great occasions at Cosimo's but tonight they lost our business. Absolutely gem of a place. I stumbled upon this place as I was looking for outdoor dining as I had my dog with me. I was seated right away and the staff was very friendly. They brought a bowl of water for my dog and we were settled right away. The food was delicious however I was sadden when another dog showed up and my dog couldn't stand being around him so I had to pack up my food to go. The wait staff was beyond understanding and quickly jumped into action and assisted me with packing food and bringing the bill instantly that I have to give this place more than 5 stars. Not only was the food scrumptious there but it was just as good when I got back to my hotel. I will definitely be back the next time I am in town (minus the dog). Cosimos is simply a super nice place to catch a meal. Since I cannot get past the Arcina appetizers don't know how the others are. These 5 meatball sized rice balls are heaven on a plate. Another can miss entree is the 8 hour veal Cacciatore. The most tender veal imaginable was delicious and then some. Last but certainly not forgotten was Amanda our server. She had an inviting smile and was very conscientious checking up on us as she passed our table. Place was crowded yet we got a table right away. Cosimo's is a great place to visit when you're looking for something a little more upscale yet still comfortable! The restaurant is huuuuge, and so impressive-looking. We were seated in an area with giant floor-to-ceiling windows that provided beautiful natural light and we loved sitting in there! You're greeted with a complimentary basket of bread and a plate of olive oil, which was a welcome surprise. Our waitress (Amanda, who was excellent!) let us know they make their own mozzarella which inspired us to start with the Caprese. In addition to your classic mozzarella and tomato, it was topped with roasted red peppers as well and it was delicious! We also ordered La Grigliata pizza, which truthfully, was just okay. It sounded incredible because it was loaded with vegetables like zucchini, squash, and kale, but it tasted very under-seasoned and pretty bland. We had to add quite a bit of salt, and I wish the roasted garlic shone through a little more! We ended our meal with the tiramisu and some coffees (one Irish coffee!) which was all VERY good. The tiramisu was a gigantic serving and topped with chocolate curls which added a nice crunch! There are many other menu items I'd like to try, so I'm looking forward to my next visit! read more

This restaurant defines ambience. Nice and big with plenty of seating. Service was great. The Harvest salad is a must if you like salads, you can add chicken like we did. Cosmos does not take food allergies seriously.. I ordered gluten free pasta (which you pay extra for) and within my gluten free pasta I found regular spaghetti noodles in my dish. I brought it up to my server because I have already eaten half my dish. He offered to take it back, but that does nothing for me at that point. Clearly the kitchen staff doesn't care if people get sick.. I won't be back and I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone with food allergies. Such a shame. read more

Overall they have a very large menu with lots of choices - especially pasta options. My sausage and broccoli rabe penne was good, a generous portion and flavorful - The sauce itself was a bit thin and watery. Husbands ravioli was good, again a large portion, but it wasn't anything truly special. The broccoli rabe side was really delicious - perfectly cooked! Prices are a tad above average IMO. Love all the outdoor dining options too! It's a solid choice for decent Italian food. Will come back to dine outside in the warmer months. read more

Wow i was pleasantly surprised at this hit spot! We got lucky and walked in and got a table almost immediately. The drinks are excellent and so if the food, check out my pics. Although the wait was long, it passes by quickly when you have good company and drinks. We enjoyed coming to this Poughkeepsie Italian restaurant located on Rt 9 by Marist College. It has a good reputation in the neighborhood. The ambience is classy, but low-key... I give the setting a 5. The service was a 5 as well. The dishes were tasty, a big portion, and plated creatively. The salmon was delicious, but I did not taste the citrus basil as described on the menu. The pizza was fabulous. My only critique was the appetizer on the specials menu...the seafood. The description did not indicate that it would be fried. I don't like fried seafood. However, i ate it anyway and it was tasty. My only suggestion is for the dishes to match the menu descriptions. After passing it dozens of times, we finally gave it a try. Had a group of 8, and service was efficient and friendly (Matt was our server). The menu is wide-ranging, with lots of pasta selections, pizzas, and meals. Appetizer selection was also great. Everyone enjoyed the fried calamari and the family-style antipasto.
