We were looking for a place for Sunday lunch/dinner. We came upon the Tomato Cafe, unfortunately it didn't meet our expectations. It has decent reviews, hence why we decided to try it out. A few of us got the steak and eggs and let me tell you it was the worst any of us have ever had in our life's. The steak was just off, over cooked although we all asked for medium rare it was more like well and somewhat tough. We were the only and last table there, service was ok nothing extraordinary we decided not to complain since they were getting ready to close. One thing, there butternut squash soup was delicious, maybe the only thing that was really worth it. Anyhow, after all we decided to leave about 17% tip food was cold and terrible we had hungry kids and just needed to feed them. I went to the bathroom after I paid, once I come out they didn't realize I was was still there and I hear the server complaining how he only received 17-18% lucky we left you a tip. Maybe next time serve good hot food and you'll earn your 20% $23 tip for a 45 min semi decent experience you shouldn't complain. read more

I am not from this state, but was visiting for the day and was told this spot had good food. It was a 3 minute drive from my friends house and I was hungry. I will say that everyone was VERY friendly upon entry. I was immediately approached and handed a menu. There was no where to sit, so I opted for take out. I ordered the bacon pizza and a small penne alla vodka with a breaded chicken patty on top. Needless to say, as a foodie, I was EXTREMELY disappointed in the pasta. Penne vodka is supposed to be creamy in an orange sauce! This had ZERO sauce and was dry. It was a DISGRACE to all penne vodkas out there. It's like the chef forgot what he was making! Or maybe he ran out of sauce! That has to be the only explanation. The breaded chicken was okay but what else can be said about a fried patty? The pizza and the customer service was good, which is why I am giving them 3 stars. Why didn't I take it back? My car refused to start when I went to leave so had to leave my car on the street and uber to my rental. Went here for dinner. Had to go up to the counter to ask for our soup the waiter forgot to bring it to us.Started with the butternut squash soup with apples it was not good. It was like a mushy soup almost like baby food and was cold. The waiter didn't serve it right away so it sat in the window waiting to go to our table. My friend had the tomato soup it was on the colder side too but we couldn't bother to complain Bc the waiter didn't come over until he brought the main course whatever. There tomato soup is more like a marinara sauce. It needs some cream! The waiter was not attentive and there was no one else in the restaurant! Next came the Gouda grilled cheese and fries. Like how can you mess this up right? The cheese was not fully cooked in the grilled cheese it was such a turn off. French fries were ok but tasted like old oil. We came here because a friend Of us is a Local. What a good surprise ! To find this old hipster restaurant, we were here for lunch and it was delicious. The service and environment is okay in a simple way that is what my husband said, I don't agree , the waiter forgot to bring the bread so the food came first oh My! . We got a local new Yorker with us, so he made sure he said " you supposed to bring it before the food", that is sooo mean to say to me, but it a natural thing here for Newyorkers. She, the waitress apologized, beside this NYbigmouth incident, (my friend in the picture ) all was pleasant. Waitress was good, happy person style. 3 1/2* I thought the food here was fine, not bad but not good enough to make me want to come back. Penne ala vodka - this tasted very generic, nothing in this dish really set it apart. Ever since I've moved into my apartment next to Main Street in November, I've had the privilege to come here more often especially since this is walking distance. The food here is spectacular! My photo shows a cup of tomato soup + a grilled cheese with bacon and a ginger ale. A great meal for a nice Sunday afternoon. But they also have terrific pizza and awesome Mac + cheese. I bet you're reading this right now thinking I'm about lay out a story of a beautiful pasta filled Italian bistro experience... Well my friend, ya thought wrong... The journey we are about to embark on is one of pure ecstasy, and epic proportions... Buckle up, it's about to get spicy. Monday: Feeling saucy & willing to take a chance, I put my reservations of the probability of receiving a mundane Breakfast sandwich from an italian restaurant aside and went against my gut in ordering an BEC over the phone.. Being that I'm from NY, I hold the quality of breakfast sammies in extremely high regard and refuse to tolerate a stale ass, under the heat lamps- gas station style sandwich. To my surprise, when I placed my order I was greeted with extremely precise questions on how I wanted my meal crafted. What type of eggs (over easy of course) how I liked my bacon (oh, you better believe it's flash cooked crispy) & they even hit me with a vast array of cheeses to top it all off. I was bedazzled. The thought that someone cared this much about a single sandwich in a busy restaurant blew my mind. Though, still hesitant about what my future held- I hung up, got my shit together and proceeded to the route. When I got to their location (which was absolutely fabulous, by the way) I was greeted by staff who made the partridge family look like the manson family. They were kind, courteous and even gave me a copy of A Bronx Tale on DVD to watch while I ate my food. (Lol, kidding) I paid, grabbed my eggies and hit the bricks. Also, for the record: I feel the need to mention that this transaction took place at 4:13PM.... Yeah.. Tomato Cafe & it's employees Don't make excuses for their grill closing at 11AM like those other nerds, they make MOVES... So, back to the story: When I got to my car and unveiled what could be the tipping point of my day, I was in awe with the presentation of the perfectly hand crafted breakfast. My eyes dilated as I gazed into the soul of this sandwich as if I was staring into the heart of the sun while hopped up on Amphetamines. The First Bite: I gently picked up that magnificent creature and slowly put it towards my mouth. What happened next was life altering. As I bit into the sandwich I could feel the pressure of the yolk begin to give way. Before I knew it the eggs had exploded all over the front seat of the car like a teenager on prom night. Seriously, like.... These things were juicier than a Ludacris video which is something that is extremely very hard to find when ordering egg sandwiches.. I was instantly hooked. I'm going to spare you the details of how the rest of my day went, but let's just say nothing could live up to the experience I had at Tomato Cafe. This place has the best Tomato soup anywhere. The hero bread they have for parms & cheese steaks is absolutely phenomenal! Crisp bread on the outside, soft on the inside, almost like a pop over. I've been wanting to try the Tomato Cafe for a while now and finally stopped in last weekend for brunch. They have a pretty extensive menu plus daily specials- so there's something for everyone. I ordered one of the brunch specials: French toast with caramelized apples and pecans. I subbed the side of meat for fruit. The food came out pretty quickly- no complaints there. My French toast was delicious and that caramel sauce really made it. The fruit was also very fresh. My boyfriend ordered one of the personal pizzas, and he enjoyed his meal as well. I am so upset writing this review because the food at the tomato cafe is delicious. Especially the brunch. This will have been my 3rd or 4th time visiting this restaurant but never ever ever will I go back after my mother and I spent the next day with food poisoning from the pizza!! I was vomiting for 16 hours and ended up having to go to the hospital to get fluids and anti-nausea meds. Thankfully my mom was luckier but also ate less of her meal than I did. Again, I am SO UPSET writing this but for your health and safety, DO NOT EAT HERE. There are a million other places in the area you can eat a terrific meal and not wind up in the hospital. Been passing this place for years now and wanting to stop in. Came for dinner one night. The place is very casual, but service was efficient (and adorable). The table split an order of bruschetta. Our party ordered the chicken piallard with green beans, tomato soup with a gruyere cheese sandwich and a special which was stuffed pork chops topped with balsamic glazed onions with a side of roasted potatoes and grilled veggies. Shared 2 kinds of gelato, cappuccino and a berrys and cream. Everything was delish. Prices were a bargain - especially for Fishkill. Worth every penny. Been here many times. The tomato soup is good. The bread for the sandwiches is sad, and has always been sad. On my most current visit here I wasn't going to get a sandwich, but against my better judgement, I did. When my food arrived I noticed that I got the "heel" of the bread which was stale and cut the roof of my mouth. My turkey club had one slice of turkey. One slice??? I arrived early for dinner and was the only person being served, so I was very well attended to. I was having a phone charging issue and the waitress even plugged it in for me behind the counter. When I first walked in, the layout made me think it was order-at-counter only, but found out there is full service seating area. The wine was ok, but not worth the price ( I'm used to "country"prices.) However, the meal was absolutely delicious, as well as beautifully presented. Like The salmon was Atlantic or farm - raised, judging by the texture, but perfectly cooked. The sauce was good, the green beans with roasted grape tomatoes were cooked just right. Best Pizza Ever!! By far the best pizza we've ever tried!! Super fresh ingredients and creamy indescribable ricotta cheese on top (which I'm not usually a fan of ricotta cheese). We split the personal size white pizza (with spinach and garlic) and the calzone (with meatball). Calzone was good. Enjoyed the creamy mozarella cheese inside, but the pizza was our main preference.
