I didn't mind driving the 10 or so minutes from work in Highland, NY to come here during my hour-lunch break and pick up to-go bites. Plus, coming to New Paltz, seemed like a destination jam-packed with variety altogether in my opinion. I think one of the nice things about Main Course on Main St. is that there's a mix of cozy seating options. From al fresco on the slightly-elevated patio, inside- closer to the ordering area, or the more formal dining room- you pick. I thought I had enough time to order, sit in and enjoy the veggie quiche and hibiscus lemonade I'd ordered- but then I noticed these folks had a slew of take-out and dining-in orders before mine- so take out it was for me. Despite the quiche's too brown top, fear not- the inside is moist, cheesy and delicious. If you want to feast and gather, Main C. is your place. Definitely worth dropping in- but do come with time.

Had a wonderful italian wedding soup. So good. I was a little confused about the congee which should be a rice based soup. This was more of a glutinous rice dish. Not what I expected but pretty good.

Main Course is a must visit in the New Paltz area for anyone with a gluten allergy. It is a little pricey, but so worth it. They have many gluten free options, GF bread, cookies, scones and many other things. They have a rotating menu with new options all the time. Their teas are made in house and addicting. I tried their plum spices (cold) and their peach/ginger (hot). They staff was very nice and answered all my allergy questions. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Outside has heat lamps so you can enjoy the beautiful views on the mountains in the colder weather. There is no table service. You order at the counter and they call your name on the speaker. They also have grab and go selections, pies and many other baked goods. Dogs are welcome on the patio.

Fresh local ingredients and unique turmeric margarita. Service was slow and portions small for the price. Still a solid spot.

We ordered that every time we have eaten here in the past. Weird burger combos were noted. I asked about a burger with gorgonzola cheese - instead of the feta cheese that came on one of the burgers. I was told no - they don't have any. Their other restaurant right next door makes a gorgonzola burger. They are always going back and forth to get stuff - why couldn't they just say yes, and grab a bit of gorgonzola from next door? Note that this was around 5:00 pm and there was just one other table occupied, and two people at the bar who were leaving. I wanted a burger, but didn't like any of the weird choices, so I got a Reuben sandwich. The fries were good, but for $17, I would have hoped the corned beef would be good as well. It wasn't very moist or fresh - in fact there were weird brown areas on the meat. I chalked it up to a bad choice. My partner ordered the Philly steak sandwich on a baguette. He has had the French dip sandwich there in the past and liked it. Unfortunately it was no longer on the menu, so he ordered the closest thing. He said he would not order it again, and that says a lot. I tasted it - and it was just not very good. Sorry to say but it is unlikely we will be back.

On the weekends it turns on a late-night party scene filled with college students. It is lined up right in Main Street with other smaller restaurants and bars. This was one of my favorite cheap eateries in the town while I was in college. I have been here twice since for happy hour specials. I ordered the chicken wings and the shrimp tacos. The drinks were around $5 which is a steal compared to New York City prices. In the past they used to offer a large fishbowl drink for your birthday. It was huge and took several people to drink it. Currently it is the size of a large cup as you can see in the picture. It does the job but it is much smaller than what it was in 2010. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. I usually sit at the bar which is a great place to meet others and watch the game. Everyone usually comes in for drinks and a quick meal. There are large tables for families to come in and spread out. Everyone was nice here. I plan to come back soon and take advantage of the happy hour specials again.
