This is such a great experience. All of the students working so hard and being so professional was amazing. Didn't love my chicken but honestly I don't love chicken so idk what I was thinking. The soup and accompanying sandwich were really good. My friend's halibut was amazing!! Our mocktails were delicious and overall it was a great meal and the small problem we had was quickly rectified. I would def come again.

Just a wonderful heaping helping of nostalgia! I went back to my alma mater for a beautiful meal with friends recently. The ambience was every bit as charming as I remembered it! If you are not in the know, this restaurant is just one of 4 fully student run restaurants on the CIA campus. The food is prepared for you and served to you by students of the Culinary Arts program who are just 6 weeks away from graduating. Our server was so sweet and super attentive. We tried to give him an extra tip but were informed that extra tips go directly to the scholarship program for underprivileged students. Everything was delicious! I only had a few issues and one was that the food snd plates weren't hot. Now I do prefer my food the approximate temperature of lava haha but still, the food wasn't hot. The spicy cod fritters though delicious, weren't spicy. But besides these couple things I enjoyed every single second of this fine dining experience. I didn't even need to employ the trusty salt and pepper! High praise, believe me! The banana caramel dessert that I ordered was just killer! Crispy fillo dough bonnet, caramelized bananas, not too sweet, rich velvety cream. I mean a real stunner. My hat off to whoever made it! Now something great that I forgot they did, when you order a tea service, they don't bring you out cold cream! Oh no, they warm and froth it in the espresso machine. Just marvelous!! It brought back so many memories! If you have never been to any of these restaurants, I encourage you to take the drive to try them! Enjoy!

One of my favorite spots! The students run the restaurant and are so professional. It's charming to watch them learning. There is a winter prize fixe lunch of 3 courses which is an incredible deal. Everything was delicious. You can watch them making dessert if you are sitting in that part of the restaurant. Also fun to walk around the school afterwards to see students in classes. Making pastry, fresh pasta, you name it! Beautiful space!

A student run restaurant at the culinary Institute of America. Each student works in the kitchen for seven weeks and in the front of the restaurant for seven weeks, waiting tables. The service is exemplary. The food is spectacular, and the ambience is delightful and elegant. The only thing that is difficult about this place is getting a reservation, But do not miss coming here if you can.

It is definitely a good experience to try and come here to this restaurant! Their use of unique ingredients made the dishes very special. After a tour of the Institute, we were able to get an idea of what it was like to be a student. We learned about how students cooked for each other in the different restaurants. We tried the bakery and the cafeteria as well as this restaurant. Ending our trip here gave us a summary of how advanced the students get with their techniques! The food was delicious and beautifully presented. I enjoyed my cocktail called living La Vida lychee and my family enjoys their individual appetizers, especially the pumpkin soup served with ice cream in the middle. They gave us a free appetizer bite, which was pickled blackberry with manchego cheese and lemon olive oil and thyme. I can tell that the kitchen experiments with flavors for sure! The hanger steak I ordered was cooked medium, which was what I asked for. We also got the market fish was which was a trout served with Swiss chard and potatoes. Beautifully cooked and delicious! If I ever have the experience to return, I definitely will. I'm very glad to have also tried the dessert in which the banana pudding was amazing. It was an elevated version of magnolia's favorite banana pudding! The service was excellent and kind. I highly recommend this place and try to walk around campus if you can

Food was good. However, I think it was a little overpriced. Our original waiter was substituting for our normal waiter since he arrived late. They did not give me a spoon to stir my coffee. I also did not get a spoon for my soup or my mussels. They also do not give change if you pay cash. They also gave us the wrong bill and had to fix it to give us our correct bill which was a lower price. Very clean restaurant with a nice view of the courtyard. The CIA has beautiful grounds and an amazing view.

My son, a potential freshman at CIA, and I dined at American Bounty the evening before his campus tour. We had a superlative meal-delicious and thoughtfully composed. We started off ordering a cocktail and an old-fashioned (for me). Shortly after ordering our drinks, our waiter took the rest of our order: oysters and the lamb duo for me, pumpkin soup and the pork for my son. We were presented with an amuse bouche: ceramic soup spoons filled with shredded greens, yellow beets, and a dollop of cheese. Our apps arrived in short order; my oysters were briny and plump, just as I like them. The lamb duo featured both cuts from the rack as well as shredded shoulder, served on a bed of pureed sweet potato. The lamb was exquisitely portioned and plated, artful to the eye and palate. We ordered the caramelized white chocolate tort and the mouse for dessert. Both featured the playful kettle corn ice cream. Both desserts were delicious, but the tart stole the show (I ordered the Madeira, as recommended on the menu, to accompany dessert). It's a fun (and impressive) fact that both the front and back of house are staffed by students. Our maitre de was a student and a font of information about the program. Our student servers and waiters were brisk and efficient while welcoming and warm.

This restaurant is located in the Culinary Institute of America, where students learn how to cook along with cooking techniques. We started out with Romain salad with roasted red bliss potatoes with a red wine vinaigrette. Our main course was pan roasted halibut with grilled vegetables with a caper vinaigrette Dessert was milk chocolate mousse with a hazelnut praline, soft chocolate cake with caramel whipped cream Everything was delicious The service was perfecto, as they not only learn to cook, but they also learn the proper way to serve The ambiance of the institute was very old school, but very impressive. I was honored to be there, among some very well known chefs who went to the CIA

Went for the $30 winter lunch special which is an incredible bargain. The students did themselves proud - the food and service were outstanding.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Set your expectations a bit lower for a fine dining experience. The servers were attentive but maybe due to the time constraint they come and take away your plates quickly. That doesn't annoy me as much but some people might not like it. Ambience is nice, felt like I was in a cooking show as we sat next to the kitchen though we couldn't really see the detail process of cooking. The critique goes to the food mostly. The price point is high for the quality of the food they offer. For example, the tuna in Crudo had barely any flavor. The citrus oil added a bit sour taste but that's about it. The vege garnish wasn't adding any purpose on the plate. The proportion was like 3:1 for garnish:tuna. Steak dish was ok. Chocolate mousse was very off- we did not enjoy the saltiness of the chocolate "mousse" which is more like melted chocolate with sprinkled salt, poured onto a mediocre cookie. This dessert was 2.5 star for me only because the ice cream was fine. The only thing we both enjoyed really well was the salted butter- very smooth and goes well with the bread. If you would like to see how students are trained there, it's worth checking out but I wouldn't go there again for the food.

We were seated in the dining at a two-seater near the window; perfect spot for a date. Excellent service and the food is definitely what you would expect from culinary professionals. The dinner rolls and whipped butter are incredible! Highly recommend for a special dinner and you can't go wrong when you finish with crème brǔlée.

Came here for an end of the year lunch with colleagues. It's quite a drive from NYC but worth it to have such a fun time. We were a group of 14 people and had a private room. The menu changes, I tried a little bit of everything. The potatoes were my favorite, fondant or fries. The students and the staff do an amazing job in hospitality and running the place. Can't wait to come back next year and do it again!

    Hot rolls with honey
    Richard A.

They started you with hot bread, with a glaze of honey. Bread was warm, soft and a nice touch of honey. I ordered a caramelized apple salad. There were slices of cheddar, with smoked walnuts, apple cider vinaigrette , apples and baby carrots. The apples were soft from cooking and it complimented the rest of the ingredients. The duck came with fingering potatoes, braised leeks and cranberry-orange chutney. The duck was medium rare and moist. I cut off the skin, because I do not like skin on duck, unless it is crispy. The carrots and leeks added a nice touch. At the end of the meal they gave a chocolate chip cookie and a sugar candy. The cookie was good, not a fan of the soft candy. Service was excellent, reasonably priced and plenty of free parking.

I looked at my husband and said I am ready to walk out of this place bc I am starving and it looks like they are too short staffed right now which is understandably out of a businesses control sometimes. But wait, instead of the waitress coming to our table to bring water or ask us if we would like a drink, she went to another table with a man and a child that she obviously knew well, and started eating their french fries and talking. That's when we decided to leave and spend our money elsewhere. So unprofessional. That couldn't wait? I hate to leave a review like this, but if I was the owner of this business, I would not want someone like that working for me, representing what seems to be a great place.

CIA students alternate between doing the cooking and doing the serving at the CIA restaurants. Since we went in February, it was $30 each for a three course meal. It's $45 starting in mid April. We started off with freshly baked rolls and artisanal butter which was delicious and they asked us throughout the meal if we wanted more. For my first course I chose the garlic and butter drenched escargot which was deliciously marinated. Then I had the chicken in cream sauce with potato purée. Delicately delicious. And lastly my four layer chocolate in a glass had different chocolate and other flavors at each layer point. Overall a feast for the senses. Our student servers were charming and patient. They answered all our questions about their study. I look forward to trying additional CIA restaurants- they have Italian, New American and more. After dining at Shadows on the Hudson, we were elated because we had a beautiful dining experience and were ready for the next day. Came here for dinner on a Friday night and the place was lively and busy. I loved how there were different vibes throughout the restaurant. There was the main dining room that over looked the water, where we dined, a more chill lounge type area as well as a private room - all stunning in their own right. Our server was Nico and he was great - giving us his honest recommendations - from my mocktail to my friends choice of port wine. I had the ginger mule mocktail which was 10/10. To eat, I opened for the classic Caesar salad with crispy chicken which was soooo good and the portion was absolutely massive. A bunch of my friends got the filet in addition to the salmon. We all loved our meals and were the last ones in the place - as the place closed relatively early for a Friday, at 9. All in all, we had a beautiful experience - I only wished it was day time for a view of the bridge - but we were lucky enough to see it next day for the wedding next door. Once we were seated at the bar (always our preference), I noticed that both the bar and dining areas are beautifully appointed. Our bartender greeted us with a smile and menus - from there, we ordered a Juice Bomb (IPA), and the Martini Rinaldi (vodka-gin martini). Let's just say I'm ruined for martinis forever and will ALWAYS want this martini. It's a perfect martini ... and I will fight anyone who tries to convince me otherwise. As far as food goes, we shared the Zucchini & Eggplant Chips. SO much food for just an appetizer (highly encourage sharing). Really flavorful chips, served with smooth tzatziki (nicely done!). Husband had the Bourbon Burger (lunch special). Properly cooked burger (med rare), juicy burger, good flavor, great ratio of burger to sauces/toppings, not overly messy but just right, and the fries were double-fried so they had that perfect crunch quality. I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich (also a lunch special), and I have to say (again), the BEST chicken sandwich I've ever had. Beautifully crisped chicken, cabbage slaw, homemade pickles, chipotle mayo were perfectly flavored, seasoned, and balanced. It's like the perfect bite in an entire sandwich and doesn't leave your hands super messy. The sandwich is typically served with fries but I chose the house salad and it was a nice burst of freshness from a rich sandwich. That dressing is delish!! Overall... this was the kind of lunch that's WELL worth the 90 minute drive (because that's exactly what we did... haha). The Executive Chef (John Malone) is a talented individual and this place is a true Diamond on the Hudson. As a side note ... the real show-stopper is the views of the Hudson River. I couldn't get a proper picture - you'll just have to trust me. Can't wait to come back!!

I had Hot Honey Calamari Salad for starters it was HUGE and a Ton of Calamari cooked perfectly, not chewy, and perfect texture. Had a bowl the wedding soup nice portion needed salt and pepper but very good. They do need to season the meatballs zero flavor. Chris our server was excellent, very polite and sensitive. Oh did I mention, go on Wine Wednesday, bottles are 1/2 off.

On Thursday's they do $1 raw oysters, so I had to try those. The oysters were very fresh and tasted great. They were served with lemon, cocktail sauce and mignonette. I opted for the mignonette, which was even better than I've had in Newport, RI. The meatball parmigiana was excellent. This was served in semolina italian bread. The bread was perfection, with a crunchy crust and soft interior. The Caesar salad was a touch overdressed, but that is just a personal preference. It still tasted great, just a bit too wet. The Salmon BLT was also very tasty, but a little scarce on the Salmon meat. A suggestion would be to charge a little more, and bump up the amount of Salmon on this sandwich. Our server Jerry was great. Very attentive and polite. There was a small issue with the order, which he quickly addressed.
