This was my first time in for dinner and I will only be back for lunch, maybe. This was the first time I've experienced a below average time at a Panera restaurant. I've probably dined at this Temecula Panera location once prior. The Escondido location seems to run much better in service and restaurant standards. Upon arrival I stood back and took my time to review the menu since you need to place your order with a cashier, reading the menu located above their heads. I was interested in the Featured Items and had a couple of questions for the cashier. I asked if the Soba Noodles are served with a soup or salad. The answer was, "we're out of that." So my second choice was Pasta Primavera, to which the cashier again replied, "we're out of that too." It was 6:30 PM on a Saturday night so it seems disappointing that their "featured" dishes would be out (86'd). The customers coming in were steady and the restaurant should have been prepared to serve the full menu. We ended up ordering Tortellini Alfredo with Broccoli Cheddar soup and Penne Bolognese with Garden Vegetable Soup. When we found a table we had to ask for the booth seats to be wiped down since there were crumbs on them. This was done without hesitation by the assistant manager who stopped cleaning the trash area to help us. We waited about 10 minutes for our meal - allowed us time to wash our hands and fill out beverages to be ready for dinner. When the plates were delivered to our table the server was not careful placing the plates down then (which was set in front of the wrong person, not a big deal, she didn't hear my shy 9-year old daughter say, "that one is mine") she slide it over causing some of the soup to spill out of the bowl and soaking the napkins on my plate. (The plate acts as a tray for the two bowls and the bread is placed on the napkins served on the plate.) So I got up to get new napkins before I could eat. I got the napkins at the beverage and condiment station and taking the last packet of butter I had to ask for more at the service counter. While standing there waiting for the butter, I noticed that the trash area was filthy! The top of the trash had dirty bowls and plates just sitting there, I guess earlier I disturbed the guy who wiped off my seat who then forgot to return and finish cleaning that area. My table backed against that trash bin and to avoid looking at the trash longer I took the one butter to my daughter which at the same time the girl brought out the bucket of butter to the condiment counter. So I went back to get my butter. At this point things are just okay, not really bad enough to make a story out of things but finally back in my seat, luckily the bread was warm and flakey which was good because my cold hard butter was able to melt in between the bread while I started on my Garden Soup. The tortellini and soups were decent except the Penne Bolognese was not edible. Do not order. It tasted like plastic and the noodles were over cooked. Actually, it tasted like it was sitting in the food warmer back in the kitchen for too long. I wished they were out of that meal too so I wouldn't have been able to order it. This was a night out with my daughter so I enjoyed being there with her and finished my soup. Unfortunately, once you start to have a poor experience you start noticing every little detail like the littered floors, sloppily set dining chairs and on the way out of the restaurant the scattered newspapers at the carry out counter. I am a catering and conference manager and have many years of working in a restaurant. Unfortunately, I know that my experience tonight was a case of poor management. I feel that the staff tonight felt they were doing their job well. However, in the Food & Beverage industry it's all about customer service first then attention to details in the service areas. From what I saw, lots of side-work would need to be done before anyone gets off the clock! read more

Don't go here if you are hungry and looking to actually eat things. Every salad is a half portion, even when you order a full salad. I had the new Hummus, Chicken, Spinach. I could barely detect the smearings of hummus on the paltry amount of chicken. I would have sent it back or demanded a refund but I only had 20 minutes. My wife's portions on her sandwich were smallish too. She, typically, loves Panera, but she voluntarily made a video promise on my phone to never ask me to go to Panera again. Drop your dime at the Pho place next door or Sub Marina across the street. Much more value at one of those places. read more

I went to this panera with a friend a couple days ago. We ordered to go and they made us wait there for a while, they put the food on the shelf without letting us know while we were on a time span since it was our lunch break. When we got to my car the order wasn't even correct. On the receipt it said everything correctly, so I'm not sure how they got it wrong. Either way we had to leave since we wasted our lunch waiting on food that was already done. Not going back :-) read more

I tried using the Google pay system which EVERY cashier register showed signage they accepted it. Not only did the cashier throw up her hands in confusion as to how to accept such a payment, but the manager's attitude was as though I asked her to give me everything for free. I don't ask for much, but at least know the systems that you advertise to support. read more

I used to LOVE Panera but lately it has been disappointing. They charge so much for a half of a sandwich and some times I get a pickle others I don't. The bag of chips you get seems to be getting smaller and smaller. I wish it was just the same each time. I like that they fixed up the tea area. It's more functional. Can I give negative stars. Ordered the Napa almond chicken salad sandwich for lunch. About 5 hours later, spent the next 4 days attached to the toilet. Poisoned! I've been enjoying meals here since they opened. Don't like the fact that the store is always dirty but the food was good. This particular visit will be my last. The funny thing is, they seem to be well staffed why is everything so dirty? even the bathroom needs a deep cleaning. Most of the food is great, when you can get the right order. They are always out of the same items. No, I can't say that I know what it takes to run a restaurant, but why isn't management ordering a larger quantity of the items they run out of more frequently??? SO, fresh and delicious. You almost can't go wrong here. I love the soups, salads, sandwiches and pastries. The passionfruit papaya green tea is so refreshing. My favorite salad right now is the Green Goddess Cobb, that dressing is bomb. Please sell it at the grocery. Seriously, I could eat here every day and not tire of it. Fast, friendly service. Today was the worst service I have ever had here. First, I got no receipt...even when asked.. because apparently the machine wasn't working. So I can only assume the amount of time it took..by the time I started looking at the clock and wondering why it took so long. A bagel, a sandwich, and two coffee's. I went to the counter at around the fifteen minute mark. I saw two coffee's sitting on the counter. After inquiring about them, I discovered they were ours. They claim they had just made them. They were warm . . but not their typical hot. I then inquired about the food. They grabbed a bagel sitting behind the counter and gave it to me. It had been toasted as requested...but now cold. So they offered to run it through again...not replace it. Now I have a blackened bagel. I then inquired about the other sandwich. That too, had been made and was sitting on the counter "warm". His words..not mine. I requested it be remade. Twenty minutes minimum for this order. Our pager never went off. This is so unlike Panera and I'm extremely disappointed. read more

The first time i went to panera was amazing. The chipotle panini was the best i ever tasted. The second time was excellent, soup sandwich combo... And the third time was well, just disappointing :( Ordered the chicken pasta. Which was 99% pasta with cheese sauce, and 1% chicken, meaning 4 small (and i mean super tiny bite size) peices of chicken which were dry and swimming in a sea of pasta. Bland sauce. My uncle ordered 4 baker's dozen in person at this Panera to be picked up two days later. When I went to pick up the bagels with my cousins, not only had the staff neglected to complete the order, but there were only enough bagels for one of the four dozens ordered. Furthermore, the staff were very slow refunding the order and preparing the dozen bagels they did have. Very disappointed with the service. It'll be a while before I come back. read more

There needs to be an option for zero stars. Panera is a joke!! I was in the mood for a panini so my wife and I decided to go. For some reason I couldn't remember why I avoided this place before, but after our bill of $40 for me, my wife, and 2 kids I started to remember. Then the food came out. Wow, how in the world do they call this garbage a panini. I think the frozen lean cuisines are a step up from this crap. I felt bad that my boy's had to choke down some crusty bread, unmelted cheese, and maybe a slice of turkey. Mine was worse, wife's was laughable. I will NEVER go back!! I am a big fan of Panera food. While it is a little pricey for what you get, it is very good. My husband and I both had the asiago breakfast sandwich and it was delicious, as always. My issue, lately, is that Panera is just not very clean. My husband and I stopped in for breakfast around 10 on a Thursday morning. About half the tables were being used and I couldn't find a single un-used table that was clean. I ended up cleaning a table myself, like I do in McDonald's. Came here and ordered at the kiosk, they only came out with half our items so we waited another 10 minutes before we had to go up and ask them ourselves. They got our coffee order mixed up after I explained to the gentleman how I wanted it in the first place. Terrible service, staff seems really unprofessional and loud. I'm very disappointed on how I was served food today. I got my food to go, since I was in a hurry. Me and my mother both ordered lunch, she got a steak and white cheddar panini which was good. I ordered a bowl of chicken wild rice and got chicken noodle. Not even close. I also ordered an Italian sandwich with extra everything, it was also good. My bad experience is that my soup was wrong, and my sandwich was soggy by the time I got it(I literally grabbed my food and got in my car to eat) plus my side apple was brown and gross.They have really great tasting food, but you couldn't get my order correct.. if I come back it will be to only dine in.
