I've been here twice with co-workers...once when we stopped in for a late lunch and when we left the school building before parent teacher conference for grub. Ummmm, I would say it was pretty decent. If you like Turkish food they seem to do that pretty well from what my colleagues say. I don't venture into the Turkish food. I usually stick to chicken tenders/buffalo wings and fries b/c I'm usually to hungry to experiment. It does have a big outdoor seating area that's pretty nice. Me & my husband came here because someone recommended it to us. It was late at night and was so crowded but we got a seat at a decent table outside. The vibes were cozy and welcoming. We got mozzerella sticks and two main entrees with dessert to go. Everything was really good and the waiters were kind and attentive. Some of them had a hard time understanding english but it was not hard to make them understand. Opera has nice indoor and outdoor seating. The ambience is definitely something special and it's right near the bay, which is beautiful. I haven't had much there since the prices are a bit high for me, but I thought the chicken Caesar salad was good. It was flavorful and had a good amount of cheese and chicken. The lettuce was crisp and definitely tasted fresh. The fried calamari was also very good! The outside was nice and crispy. An absolutely disgusting, subpar restaurant. We had the rudest waiter (middle aged balding man) who started our awful experience by giving us water glasses that had lipstick on them! When I complained, the waiter wordlessly took the glasses away (literally no acknowledgement or apology), walked to the back of the restaurant where he thought I couldn't see him, and he wiped the glass with his thumb! Then he gave the dirty glass back to me! We thought maybe the kitchen would be better than the service: we were very wrong. I ordered a sausage omelette but what I received was a hot dog omelette. It was an overcooked, rubbery mess loaded with disgusting overly-salty hot dog slices. (Don't get me wrong, hot dogs are good sometimes, but not in a restaurant with inflated fine dining prices!) In addition, I had opted for a side salad instead of potatoes with my omelette: what I got was wilted watery stringent lettuce. I asked two different waiters for some caesar dressing, but it never came. My companion's gozleme was a disgusting microwaved mess with pools of grease. When we finally found our absent waiter and complained about our food, he gave us an attitude. He said it was our fault for not realizing that "sausage" was universally understood to mean "hotdog". (I guess decent diners that put cheese, italian sausages, and parsley in their omelettes are wrong then?) After berating us, he stared us down for 20 full seconds before eventually spitting out an angry "...so you want another omelette or what?!" Only reason I'm giving 3 stars is due to good drinks and food but prices are up there, service is good but walk down a block and you get same food for a fraction of the price. They don't follow protocol either, they are still packing people in as much as they could and it gets busy! We started off as goof balls pretending to take puffs out of Cigar Rolls. Not real ones, they're just tasty cigar shaped deep fried cheese sticks, mmm. We also shared and got a little taste of 6 different sides on the small Mixed Meze Plate (consists of sweet and savory sides served with warm bread) before a massive Lamb Shank took over the table. I thought the shank was a big serving compared to any normal lunch portion, thought wrong! I managed to finish! Fork tender, fall of the bone. The sauce was the perfect touch. Nat. had the Salmon Scaloppini, she almost cleared her plate as well. We were so full, we did not have room for dessert. I mean, who doesn't save room for dessert? Everything was amazing. Nat. and I did a lunch play date with our little girls here today. I don't really come to this quiet part of Brooklyn, but since she's raving about this place, I decided to venture out and see for myself. The atmosphere was just marvelous. Impressive racks of wine lined up against the walls, the ceilings were lit with beautiful bulbs of colorful lights. Not only is the interior big enough for large crowds, they also have outdoor seating during the warmer seasons. This place is perfect for any occasion. Opera is located in a prime location-right on Emmons Ave across from the bay. The menu is extensive. The restaurant is large and well decorated. However, execution is lacking. My friends and I came for a weekend brunch. We were seated immediately. Being a lover of Turkish cuisine AND breakfast, I opted for the Turkish Breakfast Platter and it was indeed very similar to the breakfasts I enjoyed in Turkey: various cheeses, salami, olives, cheese omelet served with tea and sides of honey, jam, and clotted cream. Despite being a table of 6, my cheese plate was served first, followed by my omelet, and then everyone else's food. The food should come out at the same time...No one wants to eat alone or wait for everyone else to finish eating. I did enjoy all the items on my platter especially the fresh jam and cheese which were reminiscent of my time in Istanbul. The pot of tea seemed never ending. I don't love tea usually but something about Turkish tea that makes me want to go back for more. 2 of my friends ordered an eggs benedict dish and neither of the eggs came out poached...they were basically hard boiled eggs. That is not eggs benedict. With a little work, I think Opera could be a great brunch destination. read more

I've been to opera many times. They have a really large menu with a pretty large selection. It's not the BEST TURKISH FOOD EVER BUT staff is always really nice and accommodating. Lentil soup is good as well as the hummus. It's packed most of the time but they also will try there best to seat you. Solid spot for good food. The salads are all good and you can modify them as much as you want. Breakfast is served I think until 5pm which is kind of cool. read more

I have dined here before Corona19 hit and now reporting the reopening. They fail my 6 feet apart - and the CLEAN test!!! There is no way anyone can walk on the sidewalk without over towering the patrons. Even people on bicyles were trying to get between the hostess, and waiters serving the ones sitting on the blocked off-street. 1. I had to wait 1 hour to be seated on a Tuesday night. The hostess took my phone# and said I would be called when the table was ready. I came back in 50 minutes and my name was crossed off the list- She told me my phone was called. Of course, I showed her there were no missed calls. 2. Being that I was so hungry, I sat down with my friends at any of the empty tables- A busy boy came to clear the table. He wiped with a cloth that was not new and fresh- but I cleaned the table myself. 3. The tables were to close to the oncoming cars which were disturbing since every car that let people out came to close to our table. They didn't wear masks and were breathing on us. You can't fault the restaurant for that, but it just means they didn't consider the 6 feet rule for Outside the fenced-in eating area of their restaurant. It was like eating EXHAUST!!! 4. Many people were smoking cigarettes and it was horrible. There were no ashrays, so Yes, the ashes were going on the floor. Smoking is not allowed and the restaurant did not stop anyone from smoking. Even if you are dining outside-- you are not permitted to Eat and Smoke. 5. The waiter never said Hi or Welcome. He did have a mask and gloves that were NEVER changed. We got water once and he never asked again. I did drink all my water and waited for a refill. After a while, I just pulled my bottled water from my bag. When he gave the bread I had to wait at least 16 -18 minutes for Olive Oil. By this time my food was being carried to the table. The waiter was overwhelmed and unorganized. 6. The busboy didn't understand English or just played dumb. 7. The food was fine but I found the Chicken Shish slightly undercooked. The fries were crispy fries as requested, with a salad. My friends had Goat Cheese Salad; I didn't like the goat cheese at all!!! We also ordered was the Oven Baked Potato with Shepherd's Salad, which I didn't taste. 8. I was horrified that as I was eating, the waiter began to clear the table and took away plates WITHOUT asking!!!! 9. There was NO soap in the bathroom. However, there is a sink in the shared area of the 2 bathrooms with soap. 10. I really wanted dessert but I was so exhausted and stressed from the waiter-- I just had to LEAVE!!! Would I return? NO!! One of the first restaurants I have come to since we are reopening. Went on a saturday afternoon for brunch. It was busy but was able to be seated quickly. The experience was good. Lay back atmosphere. All the tables were separated by a good distance. Masks were worn by me and other patrons. Drinks could have been stronger but the food was top notch. I had the lamb shank with mashed potatoes and a house salad. Delicious! I also tried the crepes as an appetizer and that was good as well. Opera is a European style cafe. There is a ton of outdoor seating overlooking Emmons Ave and Sheepshead Bay. The menu has a mix of American items and Turkish items. We opted for the Turkish influenced ones. We started with a shepherd's salad with feta cheese. I'd recommend starting with this salad. It was fresh, well seasoned, and very flavorful. Next we had some small Turkish dumplings; they were like Russian pelmeni but even smaller. I liked the dumplings too. They were smothered in sour cream and topped with sumac. We also had an order of beef shish kebab which were good too. We ended the meal with a pot of Turkish tea. Throughout the meal, the staff was very attentive. The service was quick too. Pretty good food but the service is terrible. I went for dinner one Saturday. I looked over the menu and was waiting to place my order. There were several servers standing around talking, they would look at my table but no one came over to me. After 15 minutes, a manager walked pass and I asked if I can gets server so I could place my order. He said I will take your order, no problem. He took my order, then a busser came by with water and bread. When my entree was coming out, a server tried to take it from the busser so he could deliver it. The busser said no and presented my food to me. The whole time I was there the only people that checked on me was the manager that took my order and a server that was taking care of another section. Nice ambiance! Service was attentive (we went around 12 during a week day). Warm table bread was a plus. The Mixed Meze was a delight. Seafood linguine was pretty good although I felt the salmon was a bit fishy. I ordered a Cheeseburger platter and asked for medium. The waiter waiter gave me a look and stated there is only medium well or well done. I asked for medium well and it arrived well anyway. Overall the burger was still very nice with a nice bit of char taste. The Opera wrap was basicly grilled chicken and peppers. Overall the menu serves nicely everyone with those that want Mediterranean or coming as a group and will have a burger. I always enjoy a yummy meal on the Canal when I'm in Brooklyn--especially on a 75 degree day! I went here with a group of 8 and although we had a reservation they did have us wait about 25-30 minutes outside which wouldn't be that bad if we weren't with elders and it wasn't super windy. I digress :) The food was good as always, particularly enjoyed the baba ganoush, hummus, liver appetizers & the mixed grill platter! I've been to Opera a couple of times but this time I went with my husband cemented the fact that it's just not good and you're paying for ambiance. And the fact that is located near a body of water. The interior is beautiful. We ordered the chicken shish and salmon shish. Salmon was flavorless and chicken was a bit better. I've had their lamb Adana in the past which is a step up from the other two dishes. I've had their chicken noodle soup which I liked. And I've had some of their desserts and Turkish tea that I liked. All I can say is that this place is probably good for breakfast and desserts and Turkish tea (all of which are over priced in my opinion because the portions are small and they're pretty basic.) Sex on the dryer tasted like cherry cough medicine. If you're looking for real flavorful Turkish food, you'll be better off going to a little hole in the wall near Brighton beach.
