My first time at a food truck (I know, behind the times..) and DH suggested this one. It was in the parking lot of an Ace Hardware in Coppell. Luckily we were among the first in line, so got our food pretty quickly. I got Just Fish and DH got fish and chips. We brought folding chairs and settled in under a shade tree and ate. The fish is such good quality and there's plenty of it. Malt vinegar is a must for me and they have it, as well as tartar sauce and an Asian chile sauce. We also had one of their On The Hook root beers and it was a great root beer. It was kind of pricey, but I was glad to have gone. If it was somewhere nearby, I'd probably go again. The first time I went the fish was giant, flaky, and truly amazing. Then the chips are the best I have had in Plano! The second time I went the fish was cut in half and not a whole lot of meat! I'll try it once more. Not that consistent. The service was with a smile! The people in the back were cranking out the food! Overall, I have mixed feelings about this place. The quality of the fish seems to vary each time I go, which is disappointing. However, the service is always friendly and efficient. Visited their truck in Bedford, Texas today 7/11/25, around 1pm. Food looked good in adds, smelled good cooking on arrival, looked good in the box. Food came pretty quick, in about 5-7 minutes. Put the food in my hot bag in the car and drove home. It was still hot on arrival. The Fries were crispy and hot, tasted good. I opened the box and found 3 strips of fish; and I could have sworn the sign said 4 strips, nevertheless, 3 ended up being plenty, but not for the cost. The price was $14 JUST for the 3 strips, all about as big around as a quarter, THEN add $2 dollars for a small side of fries, albeit a generous serving for a "small" for sure. So it's not really "Fish AND Chips"; it's "Here's Fish, you want a side of chips?". As to the fish: the fish batter was cooked golden brown, crispy and hot. However it tasted just like the fries and the fries tasted just like the fish batter, like maybe it was all cooked together. The meat of the fish was cooked done, but it was the most rubbery fish I've ever eaten in my life...took considerable chewing per bite. All in all, for the cost, 14+2+tax it was $17 and change, and then they hand me their phone and want a tip!...which were pre-formatted to start at 18%! I could have customized it for less, but didn't feel like jacking with it (everyone has bills to pay). So that added another $3 and change. Couple the cost with the overall taste and quality and it's a "I won't repeat." Vote from me. Can't recommend to my friends and family. Sorry, but there's cheaper alternatives with sit down dinning, without any tipping, and better quality, but some people like the trendy "food truck" thing I guess. I grew up in England and have always missed the fish and chips and have never found a restaurant over here that does it quite the same. So I had high hopes. First off, be aware that you will be waiting for a long time because this business is pulling a lot of people in with its publicity. They said 12 to 15 minutes when we ordered and it was actually half an hour. There were a bunch of people hanging around in the parking lot waiting and I looked around and saw some disgruntled faces. Now, the menu. It's $15 for an order of fish and chips. You can also order just fish without chips, and you can order extra fish. The fish is cod. That's it. That's the menu. No choice of type of fish, other side items, anything. But here's what got me -- they do not sell drinks of any kind. They also don't provide napkins. No napkins. For fish and chips! The food started off tasting pretty good with the first mouthful but the more I ate, the more oily the taste. The oil tasted slightly burnt. The food left a very strong oily aftertaste. We stopped at a convenience store down the road to get a drink to try to get rid of the aftertaste. Recognized someone else there doing the same who had just been at the food truck. My wife had the same experience with the food but did say that she liked the sweet chili sauce. This really left the impression of a "cash grab" business model that says "screw you" to the customer. Stripped down to the bare minimum, not even drinks and napkins, overcharge and don't change out the oil as often as it should be. Heard about this online and when it came to our area of the metro, we knew we had to try it out and it did not disappoint. Let me tell you - the portion of fish was large and so incredibly tasty! My husband and I moved closer to this area about 3 weeks ago, so we're still figuring out our fave local restaurants. I saw a vid on Facebook for On the Hook Fish & Chips Food truck- due to be in the area on today/Saturday on the Lowes parking lot in Mansfield. We decided to give them a try. The hubby and I arrived on the lot at about 1:45pm. At that time, the people in line waiting was about a block and a half long. I know this because I took a video of the people and my husband had already been in line waiting for 1 hour and 40 minutes. After a while, people began to buckle...as their knees could no longer hold them up. Folk were over heating and passing out. I saw this happen to about 3 people. Meanwhile, random people are handing out water to fellow customers hoping no one else would pass out. As we're waiting to pick up our order, my husband asks for a bottle water. They advised he'd need to get back in the 2 block long line for a water. This was absolutely unacceptable. So we got back home to eat our food. We bought 2 fish & chips dinners @ $13 each and a cold slaw @ $3.00 plus 2 bottle waters @ $2 each. After driving to the food truck, having my husband wait in line over an hour and 45 minutes, watching people pass out, knowing that the medic alert truck pulled up and actually parked at the food truck area, now knowing the food itself was TRASH!! Nothing comes w/the fish & chips. Honestly, where were the chips part? Fries or coleslaw can be purchased separately. The fish has no flavor. It tastes like cooked beer batter....nothing! The cabbage that the cole slaw is made from is too large. It's tastes like raw cabbage with nothing else to flavor it. The sauce for the cole slaw wasn't enough to break down that large bowl of tough cabbage. What struck me even more than the food being awful, was the service! Customers had prepared themselves to be in the heat in support of this food truck. They had umbrellas, hats and fans, etc. We're in the Metroplex in Texas in June, so even though we like good tasting food, we also know and understand the heat factor. But the people on the food truck didn't give no cares about the customer base on the lot and the growing number of folk needing medical assistance right in their faces. On the Hook Fish & Chips could have elevated in the community had they shown the tiniest bit of human mankind and concern, they chose not to help and in fact, ignored the situation. There is nothing here for me. I'll never go here again and will post my 1st & last experience w/this establishment on my social media outlets and tell everyone I know not to support this place. First of all the fish I will say was really good as was the fries. The bad part was it was 37 bucks plus the tip for a total of 42 bucks. So now to the portions. I've never seen such little pieces of fish for the price you pay. If your paying a premium for food especially out of a food truck you would expect bigger portions of fish. Not bad fish and chips. We came when they were at Turning Point Brewery in Bedford. I believe their hours are 11-7pm. I don't know why they finish at 7pm and not 8pm, people were coming in and disappointed they were closed, 7pm is still prime dinner hours. We got there around 6:40pm and they were pretty busy, the employees were working their butts off, in a hot, sweaty food truck on a Texas summer day! The menu is simple fish n chips. Food took about 20 minutes to come out. The menu stated three pieces of fish, however mine only came with 2 - I didn't realise at the time it was three. Though 2 pieces did fill me up. The fish is cut in long thin fillets. The batter was good, better at the ends . The middle was a little soggy. Fish was good. Tartar sauce needs to be kept cold and would have been nice if was made fresh and not prepacked. Didn't care for the sriracha Mayo, didn't compliment the fish.
