Stumbled upon this great spot. The fish was great. We had the ahi tuna po boy along with the fried catfish. Both were big, thick and well cooked pieces of fish. The mac n cheese was good, thick and creamy. We had high hopes for the Cajun green beans. They had good kick, but flavor was lacking. That being said, the workers were nice, and food came out at a good time. Will be back again. Also you can order ahead.

I've walked past Lavaca Street bar so many times but never knew they sold seafood! We were craving some shrimp and found out through maps that they basically have an entire restaurant in the bar. I was so excited since the location is nearby and they had a great selection. The service was great & the food came out fast considering the amount of people in line. Unfortunately, I was not impressed by the food. The amount of food vs the price of the food provided did not make any sense to me. The Cajun corn was honestly just nasty. The blackened shrimp had a decent taste but the "buffalo shrimp" was literally just fried shrimp with some dabs of Frank's hot. The only thing I'd recommend from here would be the jalapeño hush puppies. They were tasty & there were plenty. Their service was great and I enjoyed the overall feel of the bar, however, I would not choose to eat here again. I'll definitely return for some drinks and a football game though!

I'm not going to lie. I was hating on the prices at first but I decided to go for it. It was absolutely amazing, it's 100% worth it without a doubt. I got the crawfish tail po boy (blackened), red beans & rice, green beans, and jalapeno hush puppies. Probably spent around $45ish after taxes and tip. (These are the only items I have tried)

Po' boy w/ blackened tilapia (top view)

Turf N Surf is pretty expensive for a "po' boy" shop, but I do enjoy their sandwiches. They're pretty big! The blackened fish is very flavorful. They stuff their sandwiches with crunchy vegetables. And they have 5 or 6 hot sauces (these are po' boys, so I go with the classic Louisiana Hot Sauce). When I first visited, I was taken aback by the prices - all in w/ tax & tip well over $20 for most proteins - but the tilapia option was much cheaper, so I went with that. And I was not disappointed! I think blackened was the right way to go too, but they do have fried and grilled options. The blackened spices add a nice amount of flavor to the white fish, one reason why I don't think you really need the more expensive versions. The bread isn't noticeable, but it stands up to a fairly moist sandwich, so it does it's job. On top of the fish, is a heaping pile of slaw. lettuce, tomato, onion & pickles. Always served with lime, which is necessary to contrast the creamy slaw. Choose your hot sauce from the many options, and your tastebuds will be occupied for a little while They also serve 2 sauces on the side, but honestly, I don't really like them. I suggest ordering w/ out sauce on the side, they're not needed since you've already got your hot sauce of choice. The service is pretty quick, so I'm happy there. There's also never a line when I go - usually 2-3pm - so that's a plus. And if you have time for a pint, you're already right there in Lavaca Street Bar The interior is pretty dark & divey, but they do have a small backyard area, so if you need some fresh air, just head that way.

There is no ambiance as this is a kitchen with a pick up window if ordered from the sidewalk or ordered from within the bar. You maybe lucky to grab a seat on the sidewalk otherwise it's inside the bar if you can find an unoccupied table. The service is wonderful, they are super helpful and very friendly. The food is awesome, I wish I had not eaten early so I could try more things from their menu. The blacken snapper po boy was one of the best po boys I've ever had. The veggies were fresh firm and crispy. The cilantro fries left a lot to be desired. Just chopped cilantro thrown on top of a bed of fries. The fries would've been great without the cilantro. The tacos were also good. The portion sizes are huge... I will return whenever I'm in Austin.

FF & shrimp po boy

3.5 First thing to note is they give you big portions. The FF were good, nice seasoning but not salty. My friend liked the shrimp on the po boy but said the bread was too much. My quesadilla was really greasy. I asked for light cheese. It was so much cheese, it was oozing out. I ate the two end slices & threw away the rest. My stomach couldn't take all the grease & cheese. I originally wanted tacos but I prefer corn tortillas, which they didn't have. Service was good, food didn't take long. Won't be back. Pricey & disappointing.

Blackened Crawfish nachos

Came here after seeing how amazing their crawfish nachos looked online and the great reviews that people wrote. However my friends and I were extremely disappointed with the food and service. The blackened crawfish was overly salty, we could not keep eating it without feeling the need to drink water after each bite. Don't get me wrong, the portions are generous ($21) especially considering the price we paid but I would not recommend this to anyone. The seasoning overpowered the crawfish and it was not enjoyable. As you can see in the picture, we barely made a dent and mind you, we do NOT like to waste food. We are not even picky eaters but each bite was pure salt with no contrast in flavors. We also ordered cocktail fried oysters but they were mostly covered in breading and the oysters were tiny so I can't justify the $20 price tag. The only thing i could recommend is the shrimp poboy. The size is generous and the shrimps were big and succulent. In terms of service, it felt cold and disinterested when I asked what they recommended since we were visiting from California.

I love crossing off places in my "Want to Go" bookmarks. I especially loved crossing off Turf N Surf Po' Boy because it's been in my bookmarks for over 4 or 5 years now. I came with my team yesterday because my manager raved about it, and wow. It is so delicious. It's a little hole-in-the-wall on Lavaca Street, and I've definitely passed by it a lot of times but didn't realize it was right there. We all ordered the blackened ahi tuna taco plate with Cajun fries as our side, and everything was genuinely so freaking good. The fries were perfectly crispy and seasoned. The fish was really tender and moist. They fill up the tacos so I can only eat one and I'll get full. Even the salad and the ranch dressing were phenomenal. I definitely want to come again because this is going to be one of my favorite spots in Austin. There is so much food as well, so the price is definitely worth it. I can't say enough good things about this spot.

Occupying the kitchen inside Lavaca, Turf n Surf Po' Boy serves up some great seafood with strong Cajun flavors that will transport you straight to NOLA! Open late, they're great for post-bar munchies. The menu could get a little overwhelming at first glance, but the variety is well worth it. When the weather is good, it's nice to just stop by and order through their sidewalk window and eat at one of the tables outside. I'm personally a fan of their Naughty Cat Poboy, which is blackened catfish and bacon with all the fixings - it's just seasoned so well and really hits the spot. I also suggest getting their Fried Jumbo Gulf Shrimp, which are beyond fresh. A word of warning, though: their sandwiches could get REAL messy and start falling apart, with coleslaw getting all over the place, so be prepared!

Blackened chicken nachos, red beans & rice
Blaire B.

Yeah this place goes absolutely crazy. Like the portions are so insane you wonder how they even make money. They were churning and burning out meals during an extremely packed UT game and everything came out quickly and well-made. Service at the window is also always so friendly it makes me want to get in my car and drive straight to NOLA. The red beans and rice alone made me nostalgic for the boot. The blackened chicken nachos fully satiated three starving women and that's saying a lot. Honestly I've tried a lot of dishes on their menu and not one of them disappoints. T&S is really the ideal bar food - BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!!! And hey if you're a weightlifter, you absolutely do not have to worry about protecting the gains here. They will load you UP with protein.

Wow people were not joking when they mentioned in their reviews that the portions are huge here. We tried the chicken parm which essentially seemed like two very large chicken breasts cut into 2 pieces each and was probably about a lb of meat. If you're looking for traditional thinner chicken parm this is a not it, but great value if you want a mound of chicken. The grilled shrimp was a more reasonable portion size and cooked well. I would give this place closer to a 3.5 but def a great value option if you want a ton of food!

I can't say a lot about this Austin favorite, but we had a hankering for hush puppies and very few places in the area serve them, which-with the help of fellow Yelpers-led us here. Two options for ordering: outside at the order window, which accompanies a small patio, and inside Lavaca (restaurant) with a full bar, pool table and an entirely separate menu. We can only comment on the hush puppies, of course. They are jalapeño hush puppies and pack a serious punch, which we rounded off with a round from the bar. They were cooked perfectly and came with a roulade for dipping. Service was friendly and fast. Inside offered a nice reprieve from the Austin heat, and the music was awesome. Totally worth the detour to satisfy our craving!

The portions here are massive compared to a lot of upscale spots, so it actually felt like a solid value for the quality and amount of food. We shared a few pastas, steak, sides, cocktails, and desserts and left completely stuffed. The Hot & Crispy Country Italian Bread was nice and garlicky. The Coal Roasted Sweet Potatoes were buttery and rich with mascarpone, the Wood Grilled Broccolini had a nice little kick to it. The steak, a 20 oz center cut ribeye was incredibly tender, flavorful, and came pre sliced which made it easy to share. My favorite dish of the night was easily the Tagliolini with Fresh Blue Crab. Rich, buttery, and packed with flavor. We also had the Spaghettini alle Vongole with clams, which was lighter but still really good. For drinks, I had the Heat of Passion cocktail with mezcal and loved it, and we also tried one of their seasonal strawberry cocktails that was refreshing and balanced with herbs. Dessert was a strong finish. The Hot Apple Crostata with salted caramel gelato was incredible. It had a buttery crust, not overly sweet, that went perfect with the gelato. The chocolate cake was good but a little too rich for me personally.

I booked this spot roughly 1 month in advanced, and I was only able to snag a 7:15pm reservation…read more(even as a solo diner). Music Lane is a beautiful area with corridors bustling with fresh air, which greatly contrasts the area not too far south of it. Aba lies within these corridors, so I was completely gobsmacked to see the size of the establishment and its number of seating. There are outdoor tables, a dedicated bar section, a decently large interior, and patio and sofa seats for the people waiting. Even then, the place was completely packed, so getting a reservation is an absolute must. Not only are the prices completely reasonable, the food itself had everything that I was looking for: a delicious spread starter, a balanced fiber dish, and an entree with intentional flavors and texture. The Short Rib Hummus is a must get! It is incredibly filling and completely worth the price. The short rib was a nice meat protein since I opted for a seafood main, and the pita bread that it came with was lightly seasoned and was as fluffy as it could possibly be. I could not eat much of my Brussel Sprouts because it was also very large. However it was not too oily or drenched, and each bite had a perfect light crunch, which is the standard for Fried Brussels Sprouts. Top it all off, the Grilled Branzino was the finisher to my savory dishes. The grill gave the fish a roasted flavor, which was complimented by the sweetness from the corn purée. The various greens, roasted tomatoes, and corn pieces themselves added bites of textures and secondary bursts of flavor. I can see why it took a month in advanced to book a decent time at Aba Austin. The atmosphere was so perfect because the air flows through all the doors and windows, allowing the diners to enjoy fresh oxygen. This place is a must visit, both as an experience and a meal that is WORTH the bill.

What a wonderful dinner in a beautiful downtown restaurant…read more This visit we decided to just do small plates. A highlight was the tempura lobster bao. If we'd tried this first, I might have kept ordering more until I was stuffed. PEI oysters fresh, well shucked, a great start. Parker house rolls were unexpectedly huge and hard to stop eating. The rolls filled any appetite holes in an appetizer grazing dinner. Shrimp cocktail, with atomic cocktail sauce that found its way onto some bites of rolls. Stone crab, one large each, was fun to try and tasty, but a little sloppy work. Kudos that the wait staff brought fresh how towels each time we dove into a messier course.
