I'm always on the lookout for the next best burger joint. In Austin, I prefer Dans, Jewboy Burgers and P Terry's. I have to admit I think this place ranks up there with them. I got the double cheese and I have to admit their burger patties are a lot bigger than what Whataburger has to offer. It was very reminiscent of Dan's style of burger as were the fries. I should point out that these are not smash burgers. All together with tax was $17. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was no tip screen waiting for me at the end of my purchase. Along with a well-made burger, they make some darn good thick shakes. They have plenty of parking and a fairly spacious clean dining room with lots of napkins on the table. I just happened to be driving by in the area a few days ago and saw this location of figured. Well let me try something different. I still got buddy burgers on my list to do but Wally burgers let's find one at hoopla is all about. It's about 4 PM on a Saturday. I pulled up a few cars and drive-through ahead of me looked over the menu. Typical pricey menu these days looked at their hotdog looked interesting. Having a hotdog head open and filled with your favorite relish, onion ketchup, mustard, and I got a Wally cheeseburger everything on it And a small Coke all this was about $14 and some change got drive-through pretty quick got served pretty fast too which sometime is not good because are there burgers cooked order or are they cooked where they're sitting like in a bath and then they put them back on the grill? Somebody knows about this let me know. Got my order and before warned on the drive-through, we have a huge SUV or a huge three-quarter ton truck making that left turn to get out is going to be hell . First up the hotdog very hot however, the bun at the bottom was very soaked in whatever juice was there from the relish or the hotdog couldn't tell lots of relish, onions ketchup, and mustard, and the first bite was a good crunch. The hotdog tasted pretty good. I couldn't tell what brand it was. It was covered in too much garnish for that but Overall for four dollars is it worth it? Probably not as we know the Costco dogs are $1.50 with a drink or my great go to at Wienerschnitzel. I'll beef is about 3.50and it's a much bigger hot dog. These were more smaller side. Time for the burger, they do say they use ground beef that's never frozen and first impression was a very thin patty and am I at Whataburger? Not the size more like Jr Whataburger , okay slightly bigger. Nothing really stood out. The cheese is at the bottom of the burger melted and the lettuce onions and mustard and tomato are on top which is kind of strange but oh well I gave it a shot and first bite was OK. I can take some seasoning on this burger pad, which is the first because normally you can't but that's the first bite. It just kind of became a regular cheeseburger. Nothing extra great did not really taste any kind of extra grilling or charbroil taste or nothing like that so if you want a regular type burger, then this is a place to go if you want a Whataburger knock off then this is also the place to go when I go back again Maybe but definitely when I go out of my way for it. Overall not bad not good but definitely a place to check out if you wanna look at their expended menu which covers chicken strips and fries and milkshakes and all that great things. I returned to Wally's with my family for a cold sweet treat. Not sure of the ambiance as we went through the drive thru. After driving up the person on the other end took my order. I ordered the Cookie Dough Wallybanger. I drove up to the window and paid. The Wallybangers were made really quickly. Mine was really good. The ice cream was cold and creamy and the cookie dough bites were spread throughout. It was a nice cold treat on a hot summer day. I will probably return again in the future when in the area. read more

We ordered 750 chicken tenders from the catering division of Wally's and we could not have been more pleased that we chose them. They had a "can do" attitude from the first time I talked with them. The food was delicious and they were equipped to keep the tenders warm throughout the meal. I dealt with Chris and he could not have made the experience easier. Looking for a quick bite and came across this place. Burger was wonderful! Service was great as well. Did not have to wait long for the orders to arrive. Not a very big space but there are several booths for seating I believe they also had a small outdoor seating area. This review is solely about the shakes. Specifically, the pina colada shake. It's the best thing I've ever had, and I get a large every time I come here. It has real chunks of fruit that somehow fit perfectly in the huge straws !!!! This place has also been around forever. My mom said this used to be the "hangout" after school for burgers. I wanted some food for my nieces and nephews. I called the restaurant to place my order for faster service. I was put on hold. I continued holding while driving there. I was 15 minutes away. I entered the restaurant to place my order. As I stated my name, the guy said you called. I said yes. He picked up the phone and hung up. With my orders were burgers, hot dogs, tenders and ice cream desserts. He made the desserts and sat them on the counter first. The food was cooked to order. 15 minutes later the order was ready. The ice cream had started to melt. I did not say a word. I was not offered anything for the confusion. I get to their place 5 minutes away and most of the food is cold. The ice cream has melted more. This was a complete waste of money and time. The food was awful. They complained that it was bad. I have to go and buy pizzas and spent more money. This place has gone bad in a very negative way. One of the best value chicken sandwiches in town, and one of the best real strawberry shakes. They also have malt powder and can make any shake a malt. Burgers are "flat patty" flat top style burgers with fresh veggies, chili, grated cheese, etc. Fries are fresh. The real reason for this review was that I came by on Memorial Day Weekend, and Wally's has a "missing man" table set up with a plaque, a place setting and a folded flag in a presentation box on the plate. It's meant to honor those who have their life in service and is a touching tribute from a thoughtful owner. If you're a vet, please support Wally's. They support you. My wife went to Anderson high school in 1980, she attended when Wallys opened up back in the same year. It has been 30+ years since she had eaten there. We came in on a Wednesday and we're immediately greeted with a welcome by one of the employees. We Ordered a couple of burgers french fries and a drink and found our table. Everything was perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. Im a burger aficionado and have tried just about every burger in the Austin area. I swear I've had this hamburger somewhere before, I can't quite place it but I will figure it out. This burger was really good and I highly recommend giving it a try if you're in the area. First off Eric, the gentleman at the register was smiling, friendly, and informative on all the food options. And when he brought the food he was just top notch. For fast food this was excellent service. The food was delicious, everything was hot to warm, including the fries. That in itself is a rarity. Bonus points for Hot fresh fries. The burger has a great grilled flavor, chicken straps were seasoned and breaded well. The gravy needed more salt, but I can do that myself, I'm sure it's so other people who can't handle much salt can enjoy it as well. The coke freestyle machine was fully stocked with everything, unlike most fast food chains. That's top notch to keep everything up and up in this type of establishment. The ambiance was peaceful and enjoyable. They played early 90s and 2000s music at a low volume. There are decorations all over that you may look at and enjoy, from art on the windows to old photos of Austin from decades in the past. Be aware that if you order the chicken sandwich, the chicken breast is 1+ inches thick, and you will gnaw on it and the bun and veggies as best you can, but you'll be giving the rest to the dog. It is that enormous. Thicker than the thickest Chik-fil-A chicken breast. If they pounded the chicken breast to 1/2 inch, it would be a delicious sandwich. The sandwiches we got were still cooked through, and my dog loved the chicken left-overs. Both times. We love to go to Wally's but will stick to burgers and hot dogs and coke and dip cones and fries. The malted chocolate milk shake is REALLY malty if you like that. Also the tacos aren't that great. Now that school is back in, it seems to be a high school hang out. Noisy but not out of control. Just got my first meal through Grubhub. Fortunately my driver wasn't doing what I call a "double dipper" (when the driver is delivering 2 orders at once). I know they sometimes do that as they need to make a living. But I digress. I ordered a 1/2 lb cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate malt. Wally's claims to make traditional burgers done right. Nothing fancy (no brioche bun, wagyu beef, or anything like that). Everything was simple and traditional. But I enjoyed every bite. The burger seemed to have a little charbroil type flavor and texture (although I'm not sure thats how they cook them). A taste of old Austin! The dining room is shaped like the inside of a train car along with train decor throughout the cozy interior. They have lots of unusual milkshake options which I really appreciate and this time I got the Butter Pecan flavor which surprised me with real pecans and an excellent taste. I overheard a small girl at another table tell her mother she was having the best chocolate milkshake of her life, and the mother seemed duly impressed after tasting it too. Shout out to the great food at Wally's, but this review is for the owner and the staff. First of all, I'm a veteran. Wally's offers a 20% veterans discount which is truly attractive, but the real star isn't JUST the awesome burgers which keep bringing me back. It's the owner and the staff! Mr. Mayfield is an excellent entrepreneur and his business ethic is true blue. He pays his employees $15+ per hour, buys quality meats, veggies and dairy supplies AND keeps most of his staff long-term. I'm a weekly visitor for 15 years now. The dining area and restrooms are always immaculately clean. The dining room interior is decorated with stained glass tributes to all things "Texas", and again the staff pay close attention to every job they perform. When I arrive at either the counter or the drive-thru, I'm greeted by happy. motivated people who smile and chat with you while you're ordering. Nothing fancy, just small pleasantries that are now so hard to find in ATX. Lastly, I'm kindly thanked for my service to the Nation. So I'd like to return that compliment and tell each and every staff member and employee how grateful I am to them, and that (as far as my military service goes) they were worth every year of it! A bit of research led me to learn that the owner is actually the same owner as the best Dairy Queen's in Texas. That's right, Robert Mayfield. For those that don't know, there are Dairy Queen's and then there are MAYFIELD Dairy Queen's. It's owner/operators like Mayfield who really change the game and run quality establishments with benefits for their employees that make them want to care about service, cleanliness, and take pride in the work they do. We got a few burgers which hit the spot for a weeknight where I just didn't have the energy to cook. Our toddler daughter decided that she ruled the fries and refused to share. Tried a burger here years ago that I recalled not enjoying, so I have avoided going here for several years even though it's just around the corner. In a pinch, I stopped in the drive-through recently and decided to give it another go. This time around I opted to try the tacos. While they were pretty good taste-wise--not the best or worst I've ever had--it would have been cool to have enough meat in there to taste it. See photo. I ordered mine with no tomato. With the award for weirdest combination ever, I decided to also order a small chicken and dumpling soup on the side and hoooooooly cow it was goooooood. I'm convinced Ms. Paula Deen, Trisha Yearwood and the Pioneer Woman are back there teaming up on that soup. I already can't wait to go back and order more. Mama's home cooking in a drive-thru?!
