CAUTION INVISIBLE JALEPENOS I just paid over $16 for a burger and three tacos. And I opted out of the combo. The tacos were mostly shell, little meat. Iceberg lettuce was the culprit. I paid 80 cents for jalapeños on my burger, which to my ghastly surprise were not there. Invisible jalapeños? Is this your way of giving back to the community? I double checked my, check, when I arrived at my residence, and to be clear, they charged me for jalapeños. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, I'll speak with the manager. read more

Errrgh, been years since I've been here. Lots of change. Looks like they did a remodeling of the place, or, maybe it's just me. I remember a whole different Wally's. One that had that local feel and served up a good burger. What I got today was a feel of a fast food chain that just doesn't give a crap about your experience. Service at the register was mediocre, and, the girl at the register looked unkempt. We both ordered the classic. One as is, mustard and veggies add cheese, the other as is scratch the mustard add mayo. Both burgers came out with cheese. When the girl, same one that took our order, brought them out she rudely plopped them on our table and said "Here you go, enjoy!". WTF? First thing I noticed was that my patty looked nothing like the ones in the pictures that are in their restaurant. Those "fresh beef patties" they boast about made my actual patty look like a twin sister to a crappy Quarter Pounder from McD's. Not only was the patty thin and tasteless, the whole burger was lacking TLC. There was no care taken into the preparation of our burgers. Looking at my pictures you can see that this burger looks like it came off of a production line. The veggies were hastily thrown onto the burger. Count the diced onion pieces (8?). Why do so many places shy away from sliced onion. FF chains I get, but, local joints? The two tomato slices were placed together at one side of the burger, then a couple of chunks of lettuce were thrown in. Sad disappointment. Also to note are the fries. Skinny shoestring kind. Crisp. I'm not a big fan of fries, but, for what they serve I guess they're spot on. Our burger experience here was a big disappointment. Nothing I would recommend to anyone. I would put these guys in a fast food chain level comparable to that of McDonald's. Nothing I would go back for, but, if I'm in the area I may be tempted to try something else there. Our family loves Wally's Burgers! Hearty Chicken tenders, bacon on your burgers, and tasty malts! We're in heaven!

Onward to another burger joint, the search is forever. As long as I have lived here I have never been to Wally's Burger Express. Why? I don't know. So I decided to make up for lost time and try them out this week. The restaurant has been remodeled, it was easy to tell, I never saw the old version so I only have the new to comment on. The entry leads you to the order counter the menu is on boards over top of the counter. When you enter there is a sign that tells you to leave your bad attitude behind, OK I left it at the door. I was waited on by what appeared to be the owner or manager, he was very likeable. The service was great they even brought my order out to me even thought I had a number. I ordered the standard cheese burger combo which included fries and drink; I asked them to hold the pickles, which they did, chalk this one up to the great service. I forgot to ask for it to be cooked medium so it came out medium well. The re-model had a lot of booths with various colored window hangings which was very nice. I sat at a table and ate the burger and fries. The burger was good, it had chopped onions on it which I like and the taste was similar to a burger I had had before, trying to think of where I tasted this style of burger and all I could come up with is Sonic burger. And now for the fries? Jump back and stand up I liked them a lot, very rare for me to like anybodies fries, I ate them all and wanted more. If I had to compare them to anyone else's fries maybe more like McDonalds, i.e. no skins no spices that seems to come with most fries these days. I ordered a small shake when I left; somehow I was disappointed it was very thin almost like regular milk. I like my shakes thick and creamy. I went back today (9/15) and tried the chicken strips, they are very good, moist and crispy. They are served with creamed gravy for dipping. Thw service was still very good and the staff very nice. This review is solely regarding the milkshake. I got a strawberry shake here and now consider it the best example of what I call the 'sandys style' shake. I might need to start calling it 'wallys style', though. Strawberry shake comprised of crushed fruit blended into soft serve. Consistency is medium thick with huge chunks of fresh fruit. Shake is served with giant boba tea straw, which any shake fan will appreciate. Highly recommended. read more

Ambience - an older building that looks like a train station from the western days. There is lots of stained glass decor of Austin and area wide places. The interior is really cool looking as it is all booth seats and has nailed the whole train station vibe. It has been here for awhile and it felt like stepping back into the 90s which was fine by me. The store was still kept well maintained and very clean. But the whole vibe here is kinda cheesy but it actually works well and looks great. Menu - it's a standard fast food joint that specializes in burgers, tenders and shakes. There are only a few main burgers to choose from but they did sport that their tenders are hand breaded and made fresh. I also noticed some signage that stated they dont use anything frozen, aside from the ice cream, duh. The menu isnt very large but they have all the main players. Even the burgers are named after train station things, like the main burger is called the engineer. But overall the menu is very solid. Service - way over normal expectations. Everyone here was extremely friendly and very helpful. The main cashier that helped me was very awesome. She greeted me as I came in and gave me a run down of the menu works. She also gave me recommendations and was overall really awesome. I have to admit the service was way over the top but it was genuine. Or at least felt like it was. So mad props for service. Food - I got the engineer combo with a taco for a buck. The taco was pretty normal of fast food joint. Nothing spectacular but still enjoyable. The fries came are a thin long cut potatoe that was cooked perfectly. They were crispy and hot and had a good taste. The receipt said small fry but it was actually quite a bit. My meal came out with my burger just swimming in fries. So the main burger was a decent sized burger. The patty was actually nice and thick which I was surprised at. The standard topping are the mustard onion pickel lettuce and tomatoes. I added some ketchup because i Iove ketchup. The burger was cooked very well and was very hot and juicy. The meat had a great dead cow goodness flavor. The meat to bun to condiment ratio was also right on point. The only thing I didnt like was the cheese, but that is a preference of mine, because most fast food places cheese is pretty overpowering. And that was true here, the cheese on some bites overpowered everything else. But like I said, other than that, the burger was assembled and tasted great. It was also a decent size burger so I wasnt able to finish the last bit. So overall the burger and fries were really good. Overall - the experience was really good. The service was above standard and the food was good. The pricing was also very surprising as I got a lot of food and a shake for only $11. That's pretty impressive. I also enjoyed the decor despite it being a little cheesy. But I am an 80s baby so dining in gave some nostalgia of growing up. It felt like being in an old 90s movie diner. I'm always looking for a good burger, and one day on the way to Torchy's I spotted this place and decided to give ot a try. I'm glad I did. I got the bacon cheeseburger, and was pleased to find the beef was fresh tasting and juicy, but not too greasy. There was a good quantity of bacon and it was cooked to perfection--not the soggy bacon that I have been disappointed with in burgers from elsewhere. The fries were well-executed, too--Fresh and golden, and hot but hard to put down. There are so many good burger places in Austin (or I have such low burger standards?) that it's hard to pick a favorite. I'd definitely put this one on the rounds of a local burger tour, if you're a variety-seeker like me. Perhaps of greater note: they have a well-run drive-thru. If you're looking for a good burger in the area and can't be arsed to get out of your car, this is perhaps your best option on the entire North side. read more

Buyer Beware!!! If you knew that your food was cooked in a microwave would you still order this food from them? Do not believe their review stars, they have to review themselves because once you figure out the food sucks they don't get repeat business. I honestly did not know what to expect upon entering here. Yes I knew it had burgers, but did not know it was going to be more fast-food like then sit down restaurant. This is not a bad thing at all, just an observation. Upon entering you sort of feel like you are in Fast Times at Ridgemont High era, lol kind of had that old feeling burger joint feel if you can overlook the LCD screen flashing portraits of employees that is. I went with a double meat with cheese, jalapenos and bacon combo. I will say for the price, roughly 10 bucks and change, I was disappointed. The jalapenos are not grilled, just regular non spicy pickled kind thrown on. The bacon was the same you find in most fast food bacon cheeseburgers. Super thin and chewy. The burger just seemed small for the price you pay. It was ok, not great, but not horrible, just ok. Fries were pretty good, but not enough to really warrant me paying top dollar for a non top tier burger. The staff was very friendly and the place was very clean, one of the reason I went with 3 stars instead of 2. In all honestly though i probably will not be back here, I just feel as if I could get a similar combo down the street for less. read more

IT CHANGED MY LIFE the VERY NICE manager (asst.mgr?)running the drive thru very sweetly agreed to make me a chocolate mint malt and it was DELICIOUS!!! amazing stuff, people. And the straw. THE STRAW! it was this enormous purplish pink thing that I of course had to save and will reuse. I'm in the area the next few days and will be back probably every day I'm able to get more of these malts. Very yummy and great staff to boot! read more

Discovered Wally's through Uber Eats, and what a discovery! I love a good cheeseburger, and this place delivers the goods. Nothing fancy or gourmet, just a great, fresh home-style burger the way I love it. And, when I saw they serve tacos as well, I knew this was the place for me! Added bonus: the tacos rock! Again, nothing fancy, just your basic delicious comfort food served up well. Was in the area and hungry so we decided to give Wally's a try. We ordered 2 bacon cheeseburgers with large combos. Total was $21.60 Price: EXPENSIVE! Burgers: Neither had ANY bacon on them! Not a single crumb. What exactly did we pay for? They also only come with mustard on them, which I am absolutely not a fan of. It very well could have said this on the menu and I just missed that, so I can't actually deduct any points for that. My 1/4 patty was still raw in the middle and the bun was soaked in grease. Not in a good way, more like eating a greasy sponge. Fries: We both ordered the lg combo so our 2 yr old (who's on a no meat kick) would have something to snack on. Both of our fries were the standard size from Short Stop (not the lg at short stop, just the regular size there). So he ended up just eating mine. I had a couple, they were under salted, soggy, and floppy. Gross. We won't ever go back. The food was unacceptably disgusting and way expensive. Save your money and go anywhere else! read more

First of all, locally owned! Support your local business! This is a great place when you just want a basic burger and fries, without all the fancy fru-fru (waiting in lines, kobe beef - whatever). I like it because they have lots of options if you don't want a burger, such as hot dogs, chicken strips and salad. Never had the tacos, but they have them. The fries are great - sort of like McDonald's but not as salty or greasy. I love, love the hotdogs, esp the chili cheese one, but you can get them plain. I love this because there are not too many places to get hotdogs in Austin ( I love Franks, but not trekking downtown!) The chicken strips are my husband's favorite; they are a little bland for me, but they are huge (get the 4 piece basket, believe me, it will fill you up.) The shakes are very thick and yummy. They have the "blizzard" type dessert which is yummy as well and I appreciate that they have a tiny option, which is perfect for my daughter (or if you're watching your weight!) I love how it's in my neighborhood. Yes, most of the staff are zitty, sometimes surly teenagers, but I think they are all neighborhood high school kids, so I love that the store is giving back jobs to the community.
