This grill in a bowling alley used to be wonderful, but has definitely lost its touch. We ordered The Dude, The Dude with bacon, and the grilled chicken Buffalo Dude. The burgers weren't juicy and they didn't give us the bacon we paid for. The grilled chicken was extremely dry, and there was no flavor in the Buffalo Dude, not even from the sauce. It was just a big gooey melty mess. The chili cheese tots also lacked flavor and was poured directly into the same platter as the sandwich which just made a huge mess. There's also no refills on fountain drinks or tea, so the three sips you get amongst the mountain of ice is all you'll have to wash everything down. read more

OH MY GOODNESS! There is a hidden gem inside the Highland Lanes bowling alley. LEBOWSKI's Grill is a hole in the wall, serving up one of the best burgers I've had in a while. I'm impressed with the quality of the food here. Food: The meal was definitely a guilty pleasure. I got "The Dude" a classic burger with fries or tater tots. I ordered my burger with everything on it, adding cheese and bacon. So why was it so great? Well, to start, the bun was soft and fluffy, the beef patty was cooked to perfection at a medium rare (seasoned well, juicy), and the toppings were just the right amount to balance the whole burger out. The fries were great, too. Service/Ambiance: The guy taking my order was nice. It's a pretty decent-sized bowling alley with plenty of seating. Been wanting to try this location for a while and did not disappoint! Burgers and sides were large delicious and flavorful. Frito pie burger and infusion with bacon were on point. We made our 3rd trip here when we heard it got a lease extension to give the Frito Burger another try. As Shana points out the idea of a Frito Pie Burger is unique and had to be included in Finding Frito. We returned here as our first 2nd try since again it will possibly be closing soon and the previous time we went some other stuff happened to put a damper on the day. This time the bar area was closed, which was a bummer. Your ordered your beers from the front desk. That is weird but they did have Not your Fathers Root Beer which was good. We got the Frito Pie Burgers and fries and had to sit out in the main area. It was very busy, I was glad to see the bowling alley getting a ton of business. The grill was not busy at the time we went. So now to the differences from previous visit: They were faster this time, last time it took so long we thought we missed them calling our name. This one was much faster. But the burger wasn't as good. It was dryer and had less of everything, made it easier to eat for sure but just not as good. In light of recent news about Highland Lanes moving locations, I have to say that aside from the classic game of bowling what I'm going to miss most is the damn near perfection of Lewbowsi's Grill burgers. I don't think anyone knows what a true diner burger is until they've had one. I was immediately brought back to my childhood having a burger with my great grandfather and great grandmother and it was insane the sense of nostalgia it brought me. Lewbowski's Grill has won multiple awards and accolades including highlights from Yelp, so that alone should be enough to get you to jump in your car and get here while you can. The fries are cooked to perfection, the burgers are made to order, and you can hear the sizzle from your bowling lane if your lucky enough. No over the top antica, no frills or crazy recipes, just some damn juicy and flavorful burgers. My friend and I were in awe as we each took our respective first bites and we ate in utter silence as an homage to what the kitchen served. If burgers were zero calorie I'm pretty sure i'd be here at least once a week if it were up to me lol. We've been to Lebowski's Grill a couple times, and we have to say that we really love this place in addition to Highland Lanes as a whole, especially given the heartbreaking tragedy of Dart Bowl shuttering several years ago. First thing to know: the queso is awesome here. Like, really good. We also love the fries and tots that come out hot and crisp--just not so in love with the ketchup packets since a dispenser would be way easier. The burgers are excellent. Last week, our kiddo had the cheeseburger and the we shared the inferno. They are generous with toppings! While you can tell that these are not fresh meat patties, we still think that they taste good and they were cooked well. We loved the spiciness level of the inferno. We've also had their taco salad, which is more like hamburger meat crumbled up, but it's served with a ton of greens and some decent toppings, and the fact that a salad exists at all at this place is pretty sweet. What else to know? Folks are friendly. You can barely hear/understand your name when they call it out over the mic, so be vigilant. No beers on draft. We've also sometimes come here when there have been no lanes available because of bowling leagues that basically take over the whole place. But we really like Highland Lanes and were happy to hear that it's going to be living another day at least for the near future. Four nostalgic and grateful stars. read more

This place is honestly roach-infested. Every time I've stopped by while bowling, I've seen roaches in the kitchen area/on the counters, near the bread, and even on the walls. It's not just one or two... it's clearly a regular problem. It's honestly scary that food is being prepared around that. Management doesn't seem to be addressing it at all. I had the inferno burger with bacon and it was one of the best and juiciest burgers I've had in Austin. The tots were cooked to perfection. The service was fast and friendly. You order at the counter and they call your name on the loud speaker so you can play your game while you wait. The ambiance was vintage all the way. It does actually remind you of the bowling alley from the movie The Big Lebowski, which just happens to be my favorite movie. This is just a bonus because the burgers are so good that I'd come back anyway. I think I'll try the Donny next time, which is a deep fried, bacon wrapped hot dog covered with chili and queso. The experience I had here was enough to ruin my entire day and leave a really bad taste in my mouth. I came with my friend but I ordered first. I initially ordered mozzarella sticks and one of their popular burgers, and the cashier asked if I wanted ranch or marinara. I said ranch. When I came to pick up my mozzarella sticks, I asked if I could also have marinara sauce. The rude woman who was grilling rudely told me that there's a reason why they ask if customers want ranch or marinara because you have to pay for the sauces. The cashier was friendlier and gave it to me anyways. I also ordered my friend's burger at the same time and when I came to pick up my first burger order, I asked a male worker if they charge for jalapeno ranch. The woman grilling burgers overheard this conversation, and with the worst attitude and tone, she said to me, "Ma'am. If you wanted sauces, you should've ordered them when you ordered your food. We make all our sauces in-house." That's crazy because I see you all using Olive Garden salad dressing. I paid nearly $45 for my burgers and my mozzarella sticks. I was merely asking the second time because I figured they did charge for their sauces and I had no issue with that, but this woman thought I was trying to skimp out on a few dollar sauces? Like are you kidding me? You can let me know once that you typically charge for sauces and if I'm asking again with the intention of paying for another sauce, how about you not give me attitude? Dude honestly super bummed about my last visit. Usually super great, got the same order we always get 3 Walters 2 chicken 1 regular bacon and cheese. I had 3 issues this go around 1. They over charged me(any extra 10 dollars I checked past receipts for the exact same order) 2. After overcharging me, the guy said I had to request that I wanted cheese and bacon when I saw him put the sandwiches in their boxes plain, (which I had done on the phone and been charged for), and 3. The food was off that night. Now I'll take one out of these 3 things and say ehh I like this place enough that I won't complain about it. But all three, and when I called in the lady was rude to me, kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. TLDR: One of the best burger places in Austin, bar none. A hidden gem you need to try. Anybody on Yelp ever watch the show X-Files from way back when? Because they need to do an episode investigating the mystery of how a place this good got attached to a bowling alley. That's not a slam against bowling alleys, mind you. It's just that after eating here, I would be in too much of a calorie coma to bowl! Like other Yelpers, I was drawn by the high ratings and number of reviews of this place. I arrived and tried the Poblano, which is a one-third pound patty served with lettuce, tomato, onions, pepper jack cheese, grilled Poblano peppers, and a homemade chipotle mayo. Whoever dreamt up this combo knows their flavors. Easily, this is one of the best 'balanced' burgers I've had, in that neither the smoky peppers, the zippy mayo, or the zippier cheese dominate and blot out the beef or the rest of the burger's ingredients. Extra kudos for wherever they get their buns. They're not sponge dough and not brioche, but something in between which has a nice feel, especially at this price point. Extra Extra kudos for the perfectly done fries, served with (from what I can tell) large-grain sea salt, pepper, and spices that remind me of Old Bay seasoning. I'll definitely be back to try the rest of their menu, which seems to have a surprisingly wide variety of delicious stick-to-your-arteries food. Pro Tip: Lebowski's is located just inside the Highland Lanes bowling alley. If you don't see the sign high up on the building, don't worry - just park, walk in, and look to your left. I've been to Highland Lanes to bowl, had a few snacks but never ordered a burger until I noticed fellow yelpers raving about it. I made it a point to go for lunch and sit down and enjoy what Lebowski's Grill has to offer. I ordered The Walter, a double meat, cheese hamburger and a side of fries. The burger looked great when the cook called my name to pick it up at the counter; two juicy beef patties, gooey cheese, round buns sitting on a plastic plate with fresh-out-the-vat seasoned fries. This is a juicy burger, and like a lot of high end juicy burgers, the grease is absorbed by the bottom bun making it a mess. But not these buns! These buns had strength to them, maybe it's the gluten in them, but they could handle the juices oozing down after each bite. The fries were also good; firm but tender on the inside with a unique taste due to the seasoning sprinkled on them. My only set back is the burger had too much mustard for my taste, but that's on me not on the cook. I'll definitely ask next time to take it easy on the yellow. read more
