Our first visit to Oddfellows will probably be our last. Although the restaurant was not busy, service was slow from the start. We waited a long time just to get water and place our order, and our server seemed distracted with other tasks. The entire experience ended up taking an hour and thirty minutes. When our food finally arrived, it was cold, but at that point, we were too hungry to play the waiting game again. Sending it back would have meant another extended stay, so we powered through. Then came the check, which took forever. When it was time to pay, we were handed a card reader that wasn't even set up properly. After waiting for help that never came, we just pressed buttons and hoped for the best. The food had potential, but the service was an obstacle course of delays and confusion. If you have time to spare and enjoy a bit of mystery with your meal, this might be the spot for you. Otherwise, there are plenty of other places where you won't have to work so hard just to eat and pay. read more

The buffalo chicken Mac n cheese dish had way too much buffalo sauce to the point the Mac n cheese tasted like just buffalo sauce. The latte was really good though. It has a fun atmosphere and it looks like they are festive for the season. Our waiter (yessi) is was great and very attentive. My wife had seen the Buffalo Mac and decided to change her order to that. We had deviled eggs and after reading some of the reviews on it I wasn't sure what to expect. They were on point and very delicious. The "jam" mentioned on one review is a Thai Sweet Chili sauce which give a little sweet and little bit of heat. It's a nice balance of flavor and they are also seasoned nicely. I had the chicken chilaquiles and it was very good too. We will definitely be back. read more

With a 'rustic, old-school meets yuppie' ambiance, this restaurant mixes simple sandwiches and brunch diner items with salmon avocado toast, decadent beignets, and cheese charcuterie boards. Personally, I think the entire menu is overpriced for what they offer, and I couldn't really find anything of decent value for your money. However, this is balanced by their plentiful portions, so make sure to come hungry. I'd recommend splitting or sharing your food with a friend. Everything has a handcrafted, authentic feel too. As for the food itself, it wasn't bad, but also nothing to write home about either. For downsides, I guess the swarm of flies circling our table meant the food was all natural? Our host gave us a little table fan that surprisingly shooed the flies away, which was helpful. We found a large hair in our food, and one of our water glasses had a huge crack in it. There's quite a bit of seating inside and outside, and it's neighborhood community-led, featuring local live music and good coffee. The service was attentive and helpful, and parking is plentiful with options for both street parking and a parking lot. Overall, it's a nice brunch spot where you can support the community, so I'd recommend, even if it's a bit pricey. read more

I finally checked this popular brunch place off my list! I came on a Sunday afternoon, and the bustling restaurant was in full swing. I had no reservation; the wait was about 35 minutes which isn't too bad given my walk-in status. There are plenty of shops to walk around and visit in Bishop Arts to keep you busy. Now, back to the restaurant, unfortunately, I can't remember our server's name, but we had excellent service! It was busy, but she kept up with her tables like a champ. We started with the Smoked Salmon Toast and Fried Green Tomatoes. Both were delicious!! S/O to Yelp for helping me with those picks. Next, the Oddfellows Benedict and The O.G. I really appreciated the portion for both, and the Benedict was good, not a fave but still tasty. I'd order it again. We used to live only blocks from Bishop Arts District and even though we moved 30 years ago, we go back frequently to Oak Cliff to see what's happening and for our medical care. After a trip to get fasting lab drawn - both of us! - I was starving and we took off to get some brunch. We hadn't been to Oddfellows in years and it seemed like an obvious mid-week choice. There were still people dining on the shady patio and indoors; but at 1 p.m., the noon rush was over and we were seated right away. Oddfellows has a big brunch menu and a big bar menu, too. Our waitress was helpful and didn't rush us. We ordered an appetizer - Fried Green Tomatoes with a Smoked Salmon Spread and after a difficult back and forth about breakfast vs. lunch, my husband ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with Potatoes and 2 Eggs and I ordered the French Dip Sandwich. I have to tell you, it was a tough call with Red Velvet and Lemon/Blueberry pancakes on the menu. They definitely have choices a plenty to tickle the taste buds. While we were waiting for the app to arrive, I became acutely aware of how uncomfortable the hardwood booths are. Maybe age has something to do with it; but those boards are pretty unforgiving. Soon though, these crispy thin fried green tomatoes landed with a mound of creamy spread. To see only 4 tomato slices was a little surprising; but I love Smoked Salmon and there was plenty to go around for each slice. A little salt and pepper and they disappeared! I had to ask for two plates, though. The table was too wide to be able to share the dish from the center and eventually I snagged whoever I could get. The same thing happened with straws. Divided between the inside and the outside, our waitress was doing her best to be available; but it was hard for her. Flies would come in from the outdoors, too. Not in droves; but they were present. My husband's CFS turned out to be BIG and beautifully tender and well seasoned. The fried potatoes were diced and delicious with his two perfect over easy eggs. (He shared a few brunch bites with me. Yum!) My French Dip Sandwich was on Sourdough that stood up to the unctuous au jus. The sandwich with the Shaved Ribeye, Carmelized Onions, melted Guyere and roasted Garlic Aioli was good on its own; but I was loving the au jus with it. I could taste the Worcestershire sauce. It was delicious. The sandwich came with a choice of fries or house salad. The house salad was terrific - a mix of greens with cucumber and radish slices and a variety of bite size sweet tomatoes drizzled with a tangy Sherry Vinaigrette. Eating out has become a treat for us. An event. The food here at Oddfellows is substantial and meets that criteria. We went at a less busy time which also enhanced the experience both for parking and in the restaurant. read more

Been here plenty of times before, adults only, this time was my first time I had my grand kids with me & apparently not child friendly. Saw pets getting more attention than we did! Was seated quickly as always, water came next just as quickly. Server NEVER came! After 30minutes & the water server asking me if a server had came to my table, -EVEN he noticed I wasn't being serviced. I decided to walk out when the table literally next to me was seated and server took drink order within seconds of seating. Spent a Sunday funday, visiting Bishop Arts district and decided Oddfellows would be the brunch option. Wait time considering the business of brunch wasn't bad, maybe 15-20, however while waiting my group took the time to roam nearby. Food wise, the French Toast was on point!! Drizzled on top was some sort of cinnamon cream sauce which took it to the next level. Given it's brunch a craft a mimosa's was in order. Only knock on my experience was the bacon, 2 slices for $5 bucks, given the average place gives you 3-4 slices.. was kinda shocked. Definitely a must try in the Bishop Arts District! I had brunch here on Monday, at around 11:30am. I was promptly seated, and water was brought over. After mulling over the menu, I ordered the Fork and Knife breakfast sandwich, and that was excellent! I also ordered a café mocha - it was very large and was delicious. The service was great and I loved the ambiance. There are tables indoors and outdoors, and both areas were nice. We came on a Sunday afternoon and there were 3 in our party. We waited about 15 minutes for our table. Our server was Diana and she was amazing! We ordered a chai tea with oat milk, a white chocolate mocha with soy milk, chicken fried steak with potatoes and fruit, bread pudding French toast with sausage, and fried chicken and waffle. The chicken thigh was juicy and well flavored! Get the gravy on the side because although it's tasty, you don't need it. The waffle was super dry and hard; I didn't eat it. (I would order the chicken and a side of potatoes next time.) The mocha wasn't sweet; I didn't care for it. The chicken fried steak was a 8/10. The breading got a bit soggy quickly but was seasoned and not dry. The French toast was really good and it didn't need any syrup! The sausage was great as well. I would return. read more

The location is very nice and located in a very fun, walkable part of Dallas. The service was very nice and quick, and the menu has a lot of nice options. I went with the chicken chilaquiles, and i really enjoyed it. Thr coffee selection was excellent, and nothing beats a fresh cup in the morning. The only reason i give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that i have had beunch of similar quality for a significantly lower price, so this felt a bit expensive for what you get. read more

I enjoyed my time here with fantastic company, but I really don't think they have enough shade for all their outdoor seating. There are plenty of tables out there that just absolutely roast when the sun is out. I also had some issues with attention from the servers, took a long time to get attention to get our food ordered, it took a long time to get sauces, no coffee refills, it took a really long time to pay. Food was pretty good but very expensive. Location was very fun. May go back for the atmosphere, but will fight for a shadier table. read more

January 2023 S U M M A R Y I won't be returning. Neither of the food nor the drinks were anything to circle back for. T A S T E Mussels : they were grainy and borderline gross. I love muscles and it's very hard for me not to order them whenever I see them on the menu. What possessed me to order them in this kind of environment I don't know. It doesn't seem like the kind of place where you should be purchasing mussels from and I learned my lesson. The mussels were not good. Hush puppies : These were OK. I feel that they could've been a little bit Chris beer. I didn't like the salsa came with them. Fried green tomatoes - these were really bad. They were super thin. I'm used to thick fried green tomatoes that have a lovely crunch on the outside and are super juicy on the inside and these failed to deliver. BLT : also not good. The bread was really hard and you could barely taste any of the bacon or the avocado. I just simply did not like this dish and I traded it out for a cheeseburger. Cheeseburger - this was actually good, especially in comparison to the other items that I ate. But there's so many great burgers in Dallas and this would not even be in the top 100. French 75 - The drink tasted really good. And I especially love the price. We went during happy hour. S E R V I C E About 10 minutes into me arriving I knew I wouldn't be back because of the service. I really wanted to sit at a booth because I had a lot of bags with me as I had just gone shopping and was going to meet a friend for happy hour. The restaurant was 75% empty when I walked in. I requested a booth and the hostess told me no because the booths were reserved. It was kind of cold and she put me at a table close to the door where people were opening it whenever they were leaving or coming in so I requested to move away and she didn't seem to be happy with that. Overall, it was just a headache. And there was definitely two booths open the entire time that we were there which was about two hours. A M B I E N C E It's a weird mix between a coffee shop and almost a dive bar to me. The tables were dirty. It just doesn't seem like they take good care of the furniture. I was just turned off by the entire environment. Came here with a big group on a weekday. Our server was so nice and patient with the group and all our picky orders and bill separation requests. The food is well presented and most of them was good. Cute ovation with the option of service thru the window, (outside) seating , or indoor booths. Both have a really great experience. So the brisket platter wasn't smoked, but still a good meal. I'm thinking it would've been better smoked. The chicken and waffles were excellent and so were the biscuits . Our waiter was awesome, I hate I can't remember his name,but he's newer and came from New Orleans. He gave excellent customer service and great suggestions. I would like to preface that I only write reviews when a restaurant is amazing or should be shut down. Unfortunately, and obviously by the lack of stars, this is the latter. Let's just start off by saying, we saw a mouse but didn't want to cause a scene so we said nothing. The service was great. The waitress was very hospitable. We should have left at the sight of the mouse but any establishment that leaves their doors open, can hardly have control of unwanted visitors and we can't ignore that America has a rodent and insect problem. The bread pudding and fried green tomato was disgusting. The bread pudding was cold, dense and flavorless. If youve ever had bread pudding you would be thoroughly confused. The salmon cream cheese side on the fried green tomato looked literally like they balled up a palm full of cream cheese (unsoftened) and rolled the ball in pieces of smoked salmon then slam dunked on the plate to appear smeared. It was very cold and did not compliment the dry fried green tomatoes. It reminded me of cafeteria food or if Little Cesars made brunch. I was instructed that the bread pudding "you have to eat it fast or it will become dense and cold" (not room temperature but cold) and that was excellent advice but you would only get through 2 of the 4 piece before it turned into something that resembled a nutted pound and cheesecake offspring . It was obvious that the food was not prepared in-house. The Buffalo Mac was decent. Although again it did not taste like was prepared there. It tasted like it was prebreaded manufacturally and they dumped it in the fryer to give a golden appearance and a just fried texture then sauced it. It needs not saying , but I was very disappointed or maybe my expectations were too high. I was expecting higher than AppleBees or higher than a food truck but I got Kroger. read more

Love the vibe of the bishop art district. It has a brooklynesque feel with all the small shops and trinkets. Oddfellows is no exception. The restaurant has a bicycle hanging from the ceiling and Christmas playing from the speakers. when seated, the low hum of a busy diner echos across the restaurant floor. It is oddly reminiscent of new york which is what I love about. However, the food is just ok. I ordered a seasonal (pumpkin spice) pancake, which is a little odd December. the pancakes came out hot but lacked the crust formed from a properly buttered pan. The consistency was a bit on the chewier side. and all those I can deal with as an average dish.... nothing special. but what knocked it down a star is that it had this awful sour aftertaste. I am not sure why. Service was average. We also got a brisket hash which was quite good and brings up the rating to a 3* but idk I'd come back to eat here again. I dropped it back to 2* since the staff rushed us out. I get that they are busy but it the staff made it uncomfortable and I havent felt that way in a while. I found this place on yelp. We came here for brunch on a Sunday. They do have their own parking lot which is nice. They do not take reservations on the weekends but we only had to wait 15-30 minutes for a table which is not bad for a weekend! The food overall was ok, nothing spectacular. We started with the devil eggs which I really liked because of the red chili jam. It was sweet and had a little heat so added a lot of flavor to the dish. The reuben was pretty bland and lacked flavor. I loved my duck bacon sandwich, duck bacon is a little sweeter than normal bacon but it's super thick so makes it a little challenging to eat. The part that I was most upset about was the wait for our drinks. We placed an order for our drinks right away and they did not come until after we received our main course. It was busy but to wait 20 minutes for drinks sucks. It's a cute little restaurant inside but again nothing about it really stood out! If you do go I do recommend the devil eggs and duck bacon sandwich! read more

At first she greeted us with the most upbeat attitude which I thought was sweet. Then after that it just went downhill all the time. There were a lot of smart remarks and we all looked at each other in hindsight confused what to say? It almost felt like she was forced to work on a Saturday...
