I needed to go to Dallas for an event today and after this last week's winter weather, I wanted to support a local business. Based on the "Parisian croissant" description and the price point, I settled on this spot. I was impressed with this place from the vibe outside, to the music, the staff that asked me TONS of questions and even gave me a complimentary croissant since they were going to throw them out when they closed because it was the end of the week. I met the owner who filled me in at length about how the only thing they serve that comes in a box truck is the French fries (but that's just because the there have been some rising costs lately due to tariffs). She makes all their salad dressings in house and so much more! She also told us that she doesn't do much advertising on social media since she would rather not be "the latest trend". Parked on the street. $1.25 for an hour Greeted warmly to be sat. I came to eat lunch on a Friday late morning. So warm and relaxed ambiance with Christmas music playing and home alone playing on the bar tv on silent. Eggs Benedict was great! Also tried the almond croissant. Absolutely loved this place! What stood out the most was the service! Wendy and Happy were our host and server and they were so nice, funny and warm!! We felt so welcome and cared for. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather. The food was also delicious - highly recommend the imperial (crab) eggs Benedict and the scrambled eggs. Having read an article and the reviews about The Metropolitan Cafe, my friend and I stopped in for lunch. The venue is downtown near the Municipal Courts and is very comfortable and open with high ceilings. We started with a couple of House Special Espresso Martinis which were delicious. We weren't aware they stopped serving certain breakfast items after 10:00 am. Unfortunately, my friend wanted two of those items... Eggs Benedict and Pancakes. Neither was available because the griddle was being reserved for lunch only. Odd... we were the only patrons at 1:00 pm, but no accommodations could be made. He wasnt thrilled, but had a couple of poached eggs, toast, crispy bacon and rosemary potatoes. It was fine. My Reuben, made with shredded corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing, was very tasty. We finished up with another couple of Espresso Martinis and a Blueberry - Cheesecake pastry for dessert. The service was adequate but slow. All in all, a pleasant experience. read more

Overall amazing dining experience. From the ambience felt walking through the door to the welcoming greeting from the staff to the excellent coffee, main course thru dessert everything was exceptional and deserving of the 5 star rating . My wife had a veggie omelette with roasted rosemary potatoes. We were both very pleased with our dishes. Before leaving our waitress asked what brought us out this morning and we told her we were celebrating our 43rd anniversary. That information was relayed to the Owner who came by our table to congratulate us and asked if we would like a desert. We were both very full but could not refuse such a gracious offer. The plan was to taste the ricotta stuffed French toast with Noemi's special twist and box up the remainder for later. After the first bite of sheer deliciousness our forks did not stop until the entire desert was demolished! Although, this was our first visit it will certainly not be the last. OMG!! This place is like a monument! It is amazing! I walked in to very beautiful pictures and cool signage that said some pretty funny things. The had mugshots of Elvis, James Brown and a number of others. As well as the news paper from when Kennedy was killed. It was pretty cool. I order a croissant with turkey sausage and cheese. It was AMAZING. Mike was really nice showing pictures of the Tuskegee Airmen and the guy who shot Kennedy and all this really cool stuff about Dallas and who has visited this place. Really cool! Woohoo, this place is awesome! Too bad it's quite a trek from my office. Despite the slight drizzle and detour, I still had a great time at The Metropolitan Cafe. The cafe is located in the historic district on Main street and is in a really neat, old building. The interior looks like it has subway tiles and the walls were decorated with vintage photos of Dallas and its most infamous criminals. There was a large mug shot of Frank Sinatra as a teenager, as well as photos of Johnny Cash and Willy Nelson. After talking to the guy who took our order behind the counter (who I think was the owner), it turns out that he was able to get those pictures because the courthouse is right next door. The decorations make this place really fun and historic, and the to top it off, the food is incredible. I ordered the greek salad with chicken for $8.95 and it came with an iced tea. Now this ain't your small dinky side salad, what came out was a huge behemoth of a greek salad on a huge dinner plate. The grilled chicken was cooked to perfection and the salad and dressing was really fresh! The guy who brought out our order stopped by to crack fresh ground pepper on our plates which I thought was a really nice touch. Others at my table got the Godfather sandwich which they thought was phenomenal. I definitely will come back here again...but probably when it gets a little cooler! read more
