Numero 28 is our Go-To restaurant before any Moody Theater concert. Everything on the menu is outstanding (I've sampled it all). My favs are their calamari and spicy pepperoni pizza. Wines by the glass are plentiful! Sit at the bar and enjoy the conversation with the staff and fellow patrons. read more

We were five folks having g dinner so we ordered two pizzas and three pastas to share. The sauce on the margarita was very good and the crust was nice and thin but not NY style. The pizza with the prosciutto was tasty. I highly recommend the ravioli- homemade pasta sheets stuffed with a spinach and ricotta filling all swimming in a vodka sauce type sauce. Austin is not Manhattan but dining at Numero28 made me felt like it. This little Italian restaurant is located in the 2nd Street District has great atmosphere with excellent cuisine. It was early in the day so was able to be seated plus it was a little chilly outside. The menu both in Italian and English which perhaps better to have two menus where I can read some Italian and wold add more authenticity to this place. But there was a wide range of choices to choose from. Since this was my first time here I just quickly selected the Pollo Alla Parmigiana and glass of Pinot Grigio with the Garlic Foccacia Bread Basket as our starter. The garlic foccacia bread was the first course and placed in the middle of the table. It was very presentable with six triangle cut up pieces. Two were grabble quickly before I cold take a photo of showing how attractive they were. They tasted so good and with the olive oil on it added more flavor. The bread had a nice crunchy crust with softness in the middle, and was thin like a flatbread. Next was the chicken parmigiana and again was very presentable with a nice aroma. The breaded chicken was sitting on top of spaghetti with tomato sauce and mozzarella on top of it. The chicken was delicious with great flavor. It was easy to cut with a fork showing how soft it was. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly and complimented it very well. It was very enjoyable. The service was top notch and tended to us with precision. My random menu selection paid off well and ready to return to try one of their pizzas and homemade gelato. read more

Excellent pizza, excellent calamari, and amazing service. I had the margarita pizza. I started with a side salad and an order of calamari. The calamari was cooked in season to perfection, we could have done without the bushy slimies zucchini. The pizza tasted great. Super fresh. Service could not have been better. I love that this place feels a bit like you're in Italy in a mom and pop restaurant. But truthfully, both times I've gone there I have left feeling like the food was good, not great, and overpriced for what it was. Positives: the eggplant parm is really good-Recommend! I don't like truffle but someone at my table ordered a truffle pizza and they said they really enjoyed it. Negatives : I didn't enjoy the calamari- the marinara sauce used in the calamari taste like store bought marinara sauce and the calamari texture was just not it. Numero28 in Austin is amazing! The food was absolutely delicious--we had the Meatballs and Cacio e Pepe, both of which were incredible. Kyle and Brandon at the bar were so attentive. Stopped in on a Tuesday cause my mom was in town. Sat outside and had wonderful service! We started with the bread app and a Cesar salad - nothing outstanding but not bad. For dinner I had the Cacio e Pepe that came out in a giant cheese bowl for extra deliciousness. Husband had the chicken parm and my mom had the bolognese. All really good, but my Cacio was definitely the star. For desert a gelato and limoncello. We also found out that Tuesday is half price all bottles of win. What more could the heart desire? Check your catering order prior to leaving the restaurant for missing items. I ordered chicken Parmesan and there was no spaghetti with the chicken as pictured in the menu. It was extremely important for my group of athletes that they have carbs and therefore the meal fell short of our needs. It was expensive too! I could have spent less ordering individual dinners off their menu rather than ordering catering sizes, and at least we would have received the pasta. On a positive note, the salad, chicken, chocolate torte was excellent and the restaurant provided plates and utensils as needed. read more

Where do I start? I love Numero 28. Its my favorite restaurant in Austin. The pasta is homemade and always cooked perfectly. Every dish I've had here exceeds my expectations. Check out their cacio e pepe- no place makes it like N28. The meatballs are fantastic. All of the appetizers are delicious and they have some pretty good happy hour specials on apps. The service is always great, they're very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant is clean and cute. I wish they had more mocktails. The bar is impressive, otherwise. I wanted Italian for date night and this place was a great choice. It was a Friday night around 830p and we had to wait for about 45 mins which we were fine with, they do not take reservations unless it's 6 or more people. We were seated outside and it was a beautiful night. We ordered the trio bruschette and carpaccio di manzo for appetizers and I'd go back for the bruschette alone, it was heavenly. For the main dishes we did a chicken Parmesan and the Cacio e Pepe, when they bring the Cacio e Pepe to the table it comes out in a huge Parmesan wheel that they swirl the pasta around in before plating. We also tried the paper plane cocktail and it was really delicious as well. We did not have room for dessert sadly but they had great options for that as well. read more

Cacio e pepe made fresh in a pecorino cheese wheel? Say less. I've been here twice, first time for dessert and drinks and a second time for their dinner menu. For starters, we loved their trio bruschette. Margherita pizza and cacio e pepe were *chefs kiss*. They make a great old-fashioned and I would come back for their delicious gelato. Authentic Italian food in Austin can be hard to find-- but Numero 28 is definitely worth a visit. My only gripe was how long it took for our food to come out (almost an hour wait). I really wanted to love this place I think the ambiance draws people in. The Arancini tasted like paella wrapped in a breading with some parmesan. It did not have an authentic Italian flavor. While I agree that Arancini are often quite mild, these were disappointing and seasoned with flavorings that make you think of Latin America not Italy. The cocktails were delicious. The service was good until we mentioned that we didn't want dessert which the waitress who didn't actually take our order first seemed annoyed when we turned it down, we did have more cocktails we just didn't want something sweet. I would love to try this vibrant place again; this place is a whole vibe. The inside is fun with a very engaging bartender and again the drinks were to die for! If you're going to ACL, go check them out because the pizzas next to us smelled divine! I will go again, I will just order something else. The service was excellent, but this is empirical proof that Austin does not know what good Italian food is. During weekends, there was a line, and we had to make a reservation. We had pizza the first time we went, which was average. The second time, we tried their pasta, and my wife had a few bites, and I couldn't eat more than two bites of my tasteless lasania. I do not understand the buzz about this place unless people have never honestly tasted Italian food. Go a block further and try North Italia if you're in the mood for a decent Italian. I find Number 28 a big disappointment. No, I do not return food unless it is visually apparent. You can't expect them to learn to cook better within a single evening. read more

This is a very cute place on second street. We had dinner on a Monday night on the patio, and there were just a handful of free tables so be mindful it's a pretty busy place! They don't take reservations either for parties or less than 5 people so be mindful when you're going if you're very hungry and don't want to wait long. But the servers were really attentive and friendly, and I really like my drink (had the bellini). My date's red wine was also excellent. We ordered a salad, a margarita pizza, and the pasta served out of a cheese wheel (Cacio E Pepe). They tell you about the aging of the cheese when you order it as well which is fun. Overall this was a pretty cute place! I wasn't completely blown away by the flavors which is why I gave 4/5 stars. Nevertheless would rec trying it if you've never been! read more

One of my fellow teachers, who is a full-blooded Italian, instantly named this restaurant when I asked her about the most authentic Italian food in Austin, so I knew that a trip here was in my and my Cajun/Italian hubby's future, and that future is now! First of all, the ambiance is lovely! Very cozy and Italian street cafe-ish (we're sitting at the bar), and my husband's head is on a figurative swivel as the trays of delight are traveling by! LOL! We both got glasses of the Super Tuscan red, and it is yummy! Silky, dry, and fruity! For apps, we ordered the calamari and zucchini and, y'all, I'm so sorry to say that it is just a bit chewy. Actually, a lot chewy. There were also only two little bits of zucchini, so don't order it expecting a great amount. This was disappointing. My heart is literally breaking, y'all! I ordered the famed Cacio E Pepe, and it was just not worth the calories. AT. ALL. I've never written a negative review in my life because I check the Yelp reviews before we go to any new place, so I only go to places with great Yelp reviews, but...not up to snuff. Not even close. The pictures just aren't the reality. What they bring this pasta in is not actually a Parmesan cheese rind that they cooked in. It's a presentation piece that they throw the pasta into. The pasta itself is also not freshly made (from dried, we're pretty sure), and the sauce is watery and lacking. The hubs had the spaghetti and meatballs, and he liked it. He enjoyed the meatballs, but the whole thing was average, lack luster, and not spectacular. We finished with the cannoli, and my husband literally ordered two in a row. Now, these, he loved and authenticated as Italian OGs. We just expected miles more all around, so after $180 with tip, we will not be back. p.s. We came here for lunch while we were downtown at the public library. Per usual downtown parking there is street parking around but there was some construction so spots were limited. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We chose inside because it's dead hot outside in the Texas heat. We had our two daughters, one of which was in a stroller. There was room for us as it wasn't so crowded yet when we got there and her stroller was in the smaller side. We got the bolognese and just a cheese pizza. The pasta was very good and flavorful. The pizza was okay nothing to write home about but that could just be us. It was very Napoli styled pizza in our opinion but we also got cheese since we were feeding a toddler so that could have been it as well. We got gelato as well, the staff was very friendly at letting us sample the different flavors. Oddly our favorite go to flavors strawberry and pistachio were not our favorite here. Strawberry was extra tangey sour and the pistachio was too artificial tasting. The vanilla and stracciatella was good. Very expensive though for the small cup of gelato $7 and unfortunately not the best. I'd go back for the pasta! read more

Accordingly, the food was fine. As a group, we got the margherita, the rucola salad, the caponata, the trio bruscetta, and the pesto gnocchi. The best of the bunch was the gnocchi--I thought it was actually very good :) But the caponata was incredibly sweet--in fact, no one at the table could eat it. Pizza was fresh but really lacked salt, even in the dough. And the tomato sauce didn't have much flavor either. Salad was yummy though. Decor was gorgeous, there is water for your puppies, and the drinks were pretty good, I enjoyed the Paloma (grapefruit with ginger) and the Signorita (pineapple with ginger). Anyway, I wouldn't say it was bad, but I wouldn't recommend this place. If I came back, I'd get the gnocchi and avoid the caponata for sure. read more
