One of the best Italian restaurants in downtown Austin. Cute restaurant & the staff is friendly and welcoming. We tried both pasta & pizza and they were both excellent. They also have a great selection of wines, and best of all they serve Peroni on draft. Definitely recommend.

Cacio E Pepe was amazing! The noodles are homemade and sooo good! I'd come back just for that!

Aperol Spritz & Paloma Spritz
Zachary S.

When my girlfriend first visited me, she begged for us to go to Numero28, a small but authentic Italian restaurant in the 2nd Street District of downtown Austin. It was so good that the next time she visited, I told her we had to go back. This time, it was my choice. Both times were different experiences, though both great. Our first time, we went on a Saturday evening right before a show was taking place at ACL, so it was very busy. Since it was just the two of us, a space to sit outdoors had just opened up, and we jumped at the opportunity. She ordered an Aperol Spritz, and I ordered a Paloma Spritz. My girlfriend speaks Italian, so she was able to talk to our waiter fluently while I got to be the dumb boyfriend being babysat. I fear this will happen when we inevitably go to Italy as well... I ordered their Cacio e Pepe, and she ordered... something else that I don't remember. I was unaware that the Cacio e Pepe was served in a pecorino cheese wheel (though it says it on the menu), so when they brought out the block of cheese I was pretty surprised--and sad that they didn't give me the block of cheese to eat out of like a Panera bread bowl. The natural cheesiness that the pasta gains from being tossed in the pecorino with the hot pasta really makes it such an excellent dish. It's cooked al dente and was very flavorful and peppery. The next time we went, I ordered a Hugo while she stuck with her Aperol Spritz. We also shared an order of their Garlic Focaccia Bread with olive oil, which was very good. I once again got the Cacio e Pepe, with the show allowing me to truly enjoy them mixing the pasta in the pecorino. It was great once again. Our waiter this time was not fluent in Italian so my girlfriend couldn't flex her intelligence on me this time! I got to order our food. Aha! I wouldn't be surprised if we go back there soon the next time she visits. She better get back to Austin soon, or I'll be going back for another dose of cheese wheel pasta without her. Ate here randomly on our first night in Austin Was a group of 7 and they accommodated us outside on their patio We had 2 lovely servers , very helpful with the menu and attentive and friendly We shared the meatballs, arancini and salmon carpaccio- these were all decent but not enough flavor for me For pasta dishes we shared the special rigatoni with sausage and eggplant- this was excellent Parpadelle Bolognese- very good Cacio E Pepe- I like the way it was served in the pecorino wheel but too much cheese creamy flavor for my tastes Just a couple of minor issues like having to ask for serving spoons for dishes and main plates to eat on instead of the tiny appetizer plates but overall a nice experience here

We came here during our vacation in Austin. It was walkable distance from our hotel and to surrounding bars that we were interested in going after! Service was quick and friendly. It felt like a mom and pop shop because customers were talking to all the staff and the atmosphere felt cozy. We ordered the Groppolo wine (crisp and light! We loved!) since it was Tuesday $25 deal. We also ordered the salad (decent), cacio e Pepe (too thick and creamy, and no flavor....we did not love this), and Numero28 pizza (FANTASTIC WE WERE OBSESSED). We would come here again!

We walked by this place a few times before finally stopping and trying it. If you are looking for authentic Italian food that is out of this world this is your place. We had the minestrone soup which was so good!!! The Margherita Pizza and the sauce was straight out of Italy. The raviolis were cooked to perfection and sauce complemented but didn't overwhelm and the pesto gnocchi. The waiter and all the staff were so attentive and the atmosphere was intimate and inAll of it was outstanding, in fact we went back for dinner. Go here. You won't be disappointed!

Stop reading and come here! Lives the staff, recommendations, and wine list was a great one. Husband had meatballs and they were delicious so don't pass on that when it's flavorful and falls apart in your mouth. We also shared a pizza and salad and both were fantastic in texture and flavor. They were also accommodating when we asked for smoked prosciutto on half the pizza (I'm vegetarian).

We needed to grab a bite to eat before heading to a taping at ACL. The patio was crowded but luckily we got a spot. My friend had sunglasses and was willing to sit facing the sun. With that being said, they should invest in some sort of sun shade. There were other people affected by it and they didn't seemed pleased but had no other choice. ;) They brought a bottle of cold water which I also appreciate instead of constantly asking for more water. We each ordered a glass of wine and the arugula salad with chicken. We both enjoyed the salad. There is also inside seating but we didn't get a chance to peek inside.

Authentic Italian restaurant. Nothing is wrong with the food, it's very decent. It's not blowing me away though. The service is great. The restaurant is very cute inside. The location is prime. Overall a good place for lunch if you work nearby.

If you hear nothing else, the Lasagna at Numero28 is fire. This perfectly portioned pasta is prepared in house. The vibe is upscale casual with a Cozy inside and tiny patio. Service was A++++ Marco and Zack were awesome. Parking was a pain. Overall, this is One of my favorite Italian spots in Austin. Pasta lovers should check it out. Feels authentic - I Will be back!

Cacio E Pepe

I had this restaurant on my list for a while, so the anticipation to eat here was much desired, however I don't think it lived up to my expectations. ~The Cacio E Pepe was a 3/5, I was expecting so much more because I kept seeing the wheel of cheese videos and it looked so yummy. The pasta may have been a bit too al dente for me, I usually like my pasta more cooked, I know it's a bit different for people, but the experience was nice. :) ~ The prosciutto-mozzarella and the Arancina Vegetariana were my favorite, fresh nice ball of mozzarella and the prosciutto was good, few dry pieces but good. 4/5 The Arancina Vegetariana was nice and crispy with a great tomato flavor, does get soggy after a while so make sure to eat it quickly. 5/5 ~ The garlic flat bread basket, was simple, tasted like pizza crust IMO. It paired well with the tomato sauce of the Arancina vegetariana. 3/5 ~ The cannolis were decent, too much cream for the crust on the outside. 3/5 Staff was friendly, the food runners were nice, but I saw them more than my actual server, but that's okay food was delivered in a timely manner and prepped the way we ordered it. I do wish they had music playing that fit the vibe of the food. It felt oddly like a bar rather than an Italian restaurant.

I'd recommend everyone to go on Tuesday for half off wine bottles! It was nice to go with my girls for a nice dinner / appetizer meal!

Very homey, authentic restaurant and food! We came on a Saturday for lunch and didn't have to wait at all. We were seated outside on the patio and it was such a lovely lunch. I got the prosciutto, pea and penne pasta. It was delicious, very creamy and very flavorful. My husband got the cacio e pepe, the cheese wheel was very cool. He loved it, I thought it was very rich. Overall, great lunch spot!

I had made a reservation a few weeks prior for our anniversary month. When we sat at our table they had a cute little greeting card from the staff wishing us a happy anniversary. Pro Tip: Just make a reservation way in advance and if you make it you make it. Even if you don't think you will be able to make it. If you can't go just cancel with enough advance. We started with the Meatballs that pair wonderfully with their Italian Bread. Flavorful and plentiful dish and def get the bread! Next came the Bone Marrow & Tuna Crudo. I will say though for some reason after we finished our Meatballs it took them quite a while to bring our dishes after that. Bone Marrow was divine and also paired well with the Italian Bread. Tuna Crudo was not what I expected because it was warm and I was expecting it to be cold. But it was good and I love eggplant. Our main dish was the Agnolotti Alla Piemontese. From the description it seemed to hit all the boxes since we are meat lovers (contains braised beef & pork shoulder) and truffle. I love me some truffle. When we ordered the Agnolotti Alla Piemontese I asked him does it have a lot of truffle flavor because I love truffle. He said oh we can definitely add more truffle if you would like when the dish comes out. When the dish came they had the chef come shave an extra truffle on the dish. I honestly could not taste the difference. Was not enough truffle flavor for me. Note the extra truffle is an added charge. Overall lovely experience. If we return we will need to try some different dishes to give it another try.

Never heard of this place but got a coupon in the mail for a buy one lunch, get a free lunch…read more Decided to try it as I'm always looking for decent Italian food. As it turns out the coupon was only good during the week and it was Saturday. No big deal. I ordered a Meatball Sandwich, my friend an Italian Sandwich (after asking our excellent young waitress about it). She brought out two very tasty types of bread with olive oil for dipping. The sandwiches came with Garlic Fries. The Fries were delicious but unfortunately mine were lukewarm. I certainly could have asked for a fresh portion, but was hungry enough not to bother. That's the reason my rating wasn't 5 Star. Because the restaurant was pretty empty on this Saturday afternoon, I feel the Chef shouldn't have sent out fries that weren't piping hot. The Meatball Sandwich however was marvelous. Freshly made, tasty meatballs with sauce and cheese on their focaccia bread was a real treat. I took half home and ate the rest for dinner. Must serve tons of spaghetti and meat sauce for the kids. But we're not here for the early bird family special. This is big time birthday celebration for the patriarch of this gang of Bostonians out for some wicked Italian food. We started with the beautiful bread basket nice fresh slices with some soft focaccia. The Calamari was standard some crispy tentacles with tough chewy meat. Meatball appetizers were big and beautifully blended globs of ground beef and sausage served with sauce. Now the it's Primo time. The Molto Grande Patti. Pork Chops with Giardiniera . Somebody forgot to make golden brown cutlets so they served an overcooked slab of pork chop underneath an assortment of pickled vegetables over a bed of pasta in red sauce. The only taste was pickled everything. Back to the kitchen and off the table. Veal Piccata consisted of two slices of meat, non tenderized, non dredged in flour and non pan seared. Served atop linguini swimming in a sea of lemon sauce and capers. What a wonderful disaster this was. Then the Lasagna served in casserole. If the traditional Lasagna is too time consuming to make then don't fake it with a casserole that the old Irish Lady makes. Good lasagna is made with layers of pasta, rich sauce, gooey cheese made with ricotta, mozzarella and parmigiano cheeses and loads of ground beef and sausage. Come on that's too easy to mess up with this awful thing you put in front of me. Ok the Penne was cooked to perfection. The sauce with green floating in it tasted good once I got past the floating algae. Sorry Folks but Cousin Louie's is best left for the kids spaghetti feast. No place for grown ups to dine.
