I was taking a look at the menu when I overheard one of the waiters tell the host, who was about to seat me, that they take a break in 5 (they do a break after lunch until dinner time I gathered) I offered to come back later and the young man stepped forward (with a strong Italian accent) and was like "no no! You will join us! Come sit at the bar the game is about to start.) Then I was whisked inside to the bar while the workers gathered to eat some pizza and watch an Italian football game that was on! My boyfriend and I decided to eat here as our last meal of our anniversary trip, we were so excited... We got there about 2 hours before they closed and put our name down on the list. The man told us 10-15 minutes. 45 minutes later we walked back and asked where we were on the wait. The lady told us our table was ready, we never received a call. Genuinely no big deal because everyone was so friendly. We order our focaccia appetizer and our mains all at once. Definitely took a while for the appetizer and my ravioli, which once again no big deal because it was very fresh. I had my food for a solid 15-20 minutes before my boyfriend got his cacio e pepe. He was so excited to eat here specially for that meal. By the time it got to him, no one was left in the restaurant, he didn't get it served in the cheese wheel like we saw others received, and now my food is cold from waiting on his. As soon as his food was set down the kitchen turned their lights off and everyone started cleaning and closing around us, which was a little uncomfortable. So, first impression, it was basically water and noodles. Not sure why it was so runny. The noodles were very hard. We were explained to that that was perfectly Al dente. Which we can understand that and that we just don't enjoy genuine al dente noodles. But just felt rushed and not their best overall. Our waiter was extremely kind and patient though and took it off our ticket and even threw in a free tiramisu. Up front, I'm a (former) Yankee who was raised in the mid-atlantic region which is brimming with homemade Italian. Since moving to Texas 17 years ago, we had given up on everything Italian. The patio also had plenty of heaters, so even though it was a very chilly the patio was very enjoyable. The service here is 12/10. I read some reviews that said otherwise, and I'm here to tell you that the service was phenomenal. The staff was even Italian and I feel like I just purely enjoyed conversations with the waiter, enjoying the restaurant, and the entire ambiance. Our waiter was extremely helpful when ordering as well. We ordered 2 pizzas which were absolutely amazing!! But he recommended ordering the Arancina tradizionale. Now I never would've ordered this, but I am so grateful he recommended this! This appetizer blew me away, and next time I come to Numero 28 I might just need to order this entirely for myself. Although I didn't try a pasta dish, for the ambiance, service and food I did get this may be my favorite Italian place in austin. It's the type of place where you go, dine, and relax at. We had an excellent dinner at Numero28. We went around 6pm on a Thursday and we seated immediately at an hour door table. A pretty long wait line formed right after we were seated so our timing was good. The menu has a good selection of standard Italian offerings with a nice sprinkling of Sicilian dishes. We started by sharing the Mista Verde (basic green salad). It was a large plate of mixed greens with a slightly sweet vinaigrette. It was very good and plenty for two people. For entrees, my wife got the boscaiola, which was excellent. A very light cream sauce on penne with sausage, mushrooms and peas. Delicious! I chose a couple of items from the appetizer menu. The caponata (a traditional Sicilian dish with eggplant, onions, celery, olives and olive) was delicious, served with crostini. I also got the polpette, a simple plate of 7 or 8 small veal meatballs with marinara and mozzarella. There were very good and lot of food. The service was very good. The outdoor seating on 2nd street was very nice. The prices were reasonable. We'll definitely return to try other items at Numero28. read more

We usually love this spot and dine often and order pizza takeout often as well. Our last two experiences were both less than ideal, so I'm not sure if we will be back. I ordered and opted for the curbside pickup, after getting a spot curbside at the restaurant to the right I called over 15 times and could see the woman at the front of the restaurant with the phone in front of her but just not picking it up. I was in a loading zone so did not want to park and leave my car, after almost 20 MINUTES I wound up driving to find a parking garage (paid for parking) so I could walk down the block to the restaurant and pick up my order which was cold pizza at this point. Look - this place is not cheap so it was just a lot of work for a cold pizza. We went again with my parents that weekend and upon walking up the woman just told us the wait was over 2 hours and she wouldn't recommend putting our name down. There's no reservation option here so we were just really bummed overall. Sometimes service is great but recently just bad experiences for us. For higher priced food, we would rather just go elsewhere. read more

The restaurant made me feel like I had been transported to a small village restaurant in Italy, it really has that Gubbio Italian vibe. The three of us decided to be adventurous and order a variety of appetizers and main courses - we were not disappointed. First, we had the calamari which was crispy and spiced to perfection, the marinara dipping sauce added the necessary flavors to complete the dish. The caprese salad had ripe tomatoes with fresh buffalo mozzarella which was drizzled with EVO oil from Italy, the basil leaves finished off the appetizer. For the main course we ordered the Lasagna, Pappardelle alla Bolognese and Cannelloni con funghi and we shared all three amongst ourselves. We couldn't agree which was our favorite but I personally give the lasagna a slight edge. We go very generous portions with lots of meat, sauces and pasta cooked to perfection. Numero28 was on my list of must-try places in Austin as I have been searching for a great Italian spot that could compare to some of the likes I had back in New York. I'm sad to say I'm still searching. I'll start by saying how awesome our waiter was! I don't believe he said his name but he was actually from Italy and had a heavy Italian accent. He was a pleasure all around and his service was wonderful. We started with the burrata which was pretty fresh but could've used some fresh sea salt and the calamari which was a bit chewy for my liking. I had the Cacio E Pepe and it was rather underwhelming. The presentation was interesting in the cheese wheel but I feel as though more flavor was desired all around and the sauce was rather watery. Just mostly a strong pepper flavor really. I will say, the ambiance outside needs some work. There were random stools and tables stacked around the perimeter and propane tanks within an arms reach on the floor. Main draw was the "dinner and a show" for those that ordered the Special, where they roll your spaghetti inside a cheese wheel of melted cheese right at your table. Our server was awesome, however the communication with the kitchen staff was a bit off. Half our party received their meals about 15 mins before the rest showed up. Streetside patio dining on a lovely evening is a nice bonus. Just know the meal prices are a bit higher than necessary, likely due to the trendy locale. This is a small restaurant on 2nd street. I had been looking for an authentic Italian restaurant for quite a while when I was recommended to come here. This reminds me a lot of the cantinas you can find in Italy. First I ordered the Aperol spritz which was very refreshing and not too strong or weak. For main, I went with the gluten free penne alla matriciana. Oh my God!!!!!! The penne doesn't taste any different than the regular one, there were huge pieces of porchetta very tender, but the star of the dish was the sauce. It was thick and spicy. The perfect complement to the pasta and the porchetta. In addition to that, the portion is really big. For dessert, I decided to go with the hazelnut afogatto and again, no complaints at all. Overall it's subpar Italian I didn't go inside during my visit here so I can't attest to the inside. PROS: the outside seating is really nice. We were greeted and sat right away. Plenty of staff working to ensure you got what you needed. The atmosphere is probably the best thing about this place. The pizza was amazing! CONS: the Arancini was disappointing. It lacked flavor. It was just a giant fried rice meat wad with peas. The red sauce that it sat in made it edible. It's the only way I got through majority of it. I've had arancini at other places so seeing it on the menu, I was so excited to order it but ultimately disappointed. There were lots of brown pieces of romaine in our caesar salad. It was dry as well. The pasta was very NASTY! I'm not a big fan of spaghetti noodles. I prefer thin spaghetti or angel hair but the sauce on this pasta was weird. The noodles tasted like they'd been boiled in soapy water. I can't tell if it was a cheese sauce or maybe like a carbonara but for $21? It was horrible. I took it home thinking maybe adding some pancetta would save it but I didn't bother. The SERVICE: our waiter rushed us. I believe they closed at 10:30 or 11pm that night and we arrived about 9:45pm so I can understand a tad the rush on us. The outside seating was full of people who looked as if they weren't leaving any time soon. I watched people that came in some time after us, 2-2 party groups of people dressed for Halloween parties and a couple. They weren't treated at all how we were. I brushed that off. It was served with thick spaghetti noodles, so the little sauce they included in the dish just fell off the noodles. My husband and I also ordered a pizza and 2 glasses of wine. Again - mediocre. The service wasn't the best. We were seated at the bar and were ignored for the first 25 minutes, then we asked a random waiter for menus and she had to tell the bartender to check-in on us. I've wanted to check this place out for awhile as the patio out front always looks inviting when I walk by. I ended up inside at the bar, but I needed to kill some time waiting on my wife to finish some work stuff nearby (she works for a wine supplier). It turned out to be a great decision--had a nice pepporoni pizza, thin crust, but chewy, neopolitan-like...and a glass of Italian wine, as well as a Peroni (on tap, no less). Bartender was super nice...he was into classic literature and I think his parents were from Italy if I recall. Great conversationalist and always nice to encounter such when you're on your own. 5 stars is an easy give...and I'll be back with my wife to try some of the dishes that aren't pizza as they all looked great as they went by me from the kitchen yo the patio. read more

She then proceeded to come over and put her hands on my other friend and I without consent or warning, she called the two men both bitches and started talking about how to figure out a guy's dick size. I looked around and realized we were the only table that was not white and she was going out of her way to make us feel uncomfortable.
