We walked up and hardly waited to be seated, the staff was so friendly. The margherita was sooo strong lol and packs a big punch so well worth the money. The caprese was nice and fresh, just wish the tomatoes were a bit more plump. We didn't wait too long for our entrees, and they came out great. I got to watch mine be tossed in the wheel of cheese! What can I say except it's literally the perfect place. Although I do prefer the outdoor seating , the inside is very cozy and welcoming. We went on a Tuesday and they had half off a bottle of wine, which I thought was cool. I ordered a Chicken parm and the calamari, my goodness that calamari changed my life. I had never had better calamari. The chicken parm was perfection! It was crispy and the pasta was on point. My brother go a huge piece of lasagna and it was very tasty, he finished it all. Cons: I ordered the lasagna bolognese, 2 glasses of Cabernet and the cacio e pepe. Bolognese was lacking in flavor/salt. Cacio e pepe was too salty. The staff was friendly so I tipped 20% in cash regardless of the food. I just looked at my bank statement to see that an additional $10 tip was fraudulently added. My wife and I stopped in to No. 28 (that's how it reads from the street) for dinner while in Austin for the USGP. Food, service and ambiance (if you enjoy people watching) were amazing. We split a margherita pizza and tiramisu for dessert. Probably the best thin crust pizza I've had in years and the generous piece of tiramisu was equally impressive. The drinks were great as well. If you like "old fashioneds" I recommend their Full Monty Old Fashioned. We liked No. 28 so much we went back two nights later for dinner and had an equally great meal. read more

I've been here a few times over the past couple of months and the experience is average at best. The food and drinks could be better but they do have a cute patio dining area which makes for great people watching. Of the items I've had (cacio e pepe, bruschette, arancina, and vegetarian pizza), none have wowed me. However, the cacio e pepe, does come in a wonderful cheese round and gets mixed in front of you which I did love. Personally, it's not the place for me especially since there are so many great Italian spots in town and even on the same street. This review is overdue. I stopped by here the week before Thanksgiving and was served some solid Italian pasta by some amazing staff. My partner and I opted to sit at the bar where they had wine on tap! We opted for a bottle of the Nero D'Avolo Stemmari -- and it was half off because it was Tuesday!! AJ was our bartender / wine server / order taker. By the way she handled herself so confidently and how she was making the other patrons laugh and giving our recommendations, we were immediately drawn to her personality and thought she worked there forever. Imagine our surprise when it was her FIRST DAY! We had to confirm with another server (Rene, who had started 20 days earlier!) to double check. Both AJ and Rene had awesome personalities and made us laugh throughout the night. Stellar staff here at Numbero 28! Onto the food! I got the lasagna. This was AWESOME, definitely made in house and cooked to perfection. I really loved the texture of the extra cooked bits. One of the best restaurant lasagnas I've ever had. My partner got their cheese wheel pasta. We totally skimmed over the fact that this dish didn't have any meat, but honestly the full mouthfeel of the cheese and hand made noodles were awesome on their own. We also opted to get a scoop of their gelato at the little kiosk near the door. I honestly would pass on this next time; compared to the quality of the actual dishes on the menu, this was clearly not made in house and artificially sweetened / flavored. If you're looking for dessert, I'd encourage you to instead order their tiramisu -- if I ever find myself back in Austin and here at Numero 28, I'll get that instead. Be careful sitting at the bar, at any moment in time, a small turtle like lady with lobster claws for hands may grab you from behind when you are not expecting it. She will ask you not to touch your hair, and you will feel violated. Her reasoning was that it's unacceptable to touch, or fix your hair inside a restaurant. This was an employee. Do not order the toilet water Negroni, unless you want to feel a deep state of regret. There are indeed 27 places in this city I would rather eat pizza before I came back here, Which means this place is indeed numero 28! read more

The wait was 45-75 minutes for a party of 6 so we decided to come the next day and make a reservation. The food was nothing too special. Some of my friends were still hungry afterwards and we think the quality of the food didn't reflect the price. The restaurant is quite small with dim lighting so I understand why the wait was so long the previous day. The waitresses treated us with the upmost respect and they were really attentive. However when it came down to splitting the check, our waiter said it was too complicated and we had to just do it on one card. I really wanted to love this restaurant, because of the very tik-tok worthy pasta in cheese tableside, but alas...it wasn't meant to be. We ordered chicken parmesan & the famous cacio e pepe. The parm was served before the cacio, and the chicken was extremely overcooked and dry, not covered in cheese as is the norm. It comes with a side of spaghetti with a marinara. The sauce was flavorful and had a little kick to it. I am curious to know if the noodles/pastas were made in house. The cacio came out a bit later and was tossed in the cheese. I was very surprised at how liquidy it was, and also at the temperature which was barely warm. It was actually cold before I finished eating. Also, I was expecting a much creamier sauce. Not certain if this was the result of a service issue, or if it is just normally served that way. Though I am not a fan of the food so far, I think the ambience is great, on the patio especially . The cocktail menu seemed intriguing, so I might go back to try the pizza, drinks and dessert. Who doesn't love gelato?! Service was very attentive, but not particularly knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. They did bring the check and close out extremely fast, so that was a bit of a bummer. Had drinks at this place over the weekend and the bartender, server/manager, and two cooks we saw were not wearing their masks properly. All four had their masks under their noses. Early on I explained to the bartender, "it only works if you cover your nose, too." He thanked me and pulled his mask up - for about 5 minutes. Tonight i got a to-go caesar salad and it kind of had a weird grainy texture but i ignored it because i figured maybe it was seasoning or something. Ate most of it but once i got to the bottom the crunchy grainy stuff got more noticeable. I looked down and i realized there was literally chunks of compacted dirt. I had been eating dirt covered lettuce. Its bad enough im already paranoid about covid, now im paranoid im going to end up with some kind of parasite or e coli. I called and talked to the manager and he said they wash the lettuce and didn't seem to believe it could be true. Pretty solid Italian food but my bar is set pretty high in regards to Italian. Best thing I had was the Prosciutto and Mozzarella appetizer (not pictured). The prosciutto was delicious, you can tell it's the real deal and aged a bit. Other that that, the gnocchi itself was obviously handmade and great but the pesto sauce was very creamy and kind of weird. Still yummy but not what I was expecting at all. The pizza was good but pretty standard as far as wood fired pizzas go. I'd come back to try more but wouldn't be my first option as far as Italian in Austin goes. read more

I had dinner at Numero28 before a concert at ACL Moody Theater. I sat at the bar, since I was dining alone. The bartender was super friendly and helpful in making suggestions. I started with a Negroni and the Prosciutto di Parma con Mozzarella. Both were outstanding. They brought bread out to go with the appetizer. I had Pinot Grigio with my main course. I went with the Cacio E Pepe for dinner, a house favorite. They serve it out of a parmesan drum. It was very tasty and entertaining to receive. The bartender poured me a bit more wine, since my pasta was a little delayed in coming out. This place has a wonderful and authentic atmosphere.
