Checked out Nui, a Korean restaurant, on a busy Friday evening. Service was friendly and staff came by to refill drinks. Menu consists of 12 items highlighted by their gomtang. - Banchan - mustard greens. Good texture - Tofu egg jjim ($11.00) - was told it was similar to a chawanmushi. That's a stretch - Vinegared mackerel ($19.00) - tender - Gomtang ($23.00) with rice noodle ($2.00) - pork broth was homey, sliced pork was dry. Crazy they charge extra for rice noodles - Yook hwe ($21.00) - good but small portion - Dweji rice bowl ($20.00) - standard. Pork slices were plain, nothing memorable - Goguma & ice cream ($12.00) - interesting with the candied Korean sweet potato

I always walked by this place on the weekends and it's always sooooo packed in here so I always wanted to come try. Finally got a reservation and I ordered the below: 1. Grape soda (it's pretty good, and it has tiny bits inside) 4/5 2. Mashed potato with smoked sausage add on: 1/5. I have never had such a hard to chew sausage before, it's cold and it hurts my teeth to chew, it costs extra to add this too so it's absolutely not worth it. The portion is also tiny. 3. Seafood pancake: 5/5, it's honestly so good it's so light, crispy on the outside, soft in the inside, im drooling thinking about this. 4. Pork soup: 3/5. I think it's hearty and good, but it's nothing special and definitely not worth the price Overall, I think it's overhyped and over priced. If u have to come here, just get the seafood pancake. The service is good tho, the only thing is they have really tight seating limit, it doesn't feel so right when you re drinking and enjoying dinner with friends and u constantly are reminded that your time is up.

DWEJI RICE BOWL ($20) - very tasty!

This little restaurant next to Matchstick is easy to miss (I literally walked past looking for it). Interior was all wood, clean looking, comfortable. My friend and I came here for lunch to chat away the afternoon and the service was lovely and not rushed, even though the place really filled up during lunch hour! I got their rice bowl with pork slices. The pork slices were thin and delicate and full of flavor with the runny yolk adding the perfect amount of sauce to the dish. Kimchi was served on the side. Straight forward dish executed well.

I'd been seeing this place on my social media and came here with a friend who enjoys gomtang (which I'd say seems to be Nui's signature feature). The space was cozy with dimmed lighting though I wish the seats were a bit more comfortable as they did not have any back support. We shared the gomtang ($23), potato salad ($12), and seafood pancake ($23) as well as trying some cocktails. I really enjoyed the gomtang, as it was the perfect warm soup for a rainy day, and it was gentle but rich at the same time. The server also explained that you can add some provided chili paste to adjust the spice level. My friend's surprise favourite turned out to be the potato salad which was very smooth with an almost mashed potato scoop texture so I'd recommend that as well! Unfortunately, the seafood pancake was quite disappointing as it was very greasy :( Cocktails were solid and were sweet, my yuzu one tasted exactly like the jars of citron tea you can get at the grocery store. Overall, I'd say if you haven't had gomtang and are looking for a small contemporary Korean spot, this is the place!

Nui is tucked away on a quieter stretch of Main St, so parking is actually manageable. The space itself is cozy, so I highly recommend making a reservation. I came here with friends on a weeknight, and we shared everything so we could try a bit of everything. The menu isn't very big. It is perfect for anyone who struggles with indecision. Portions are on the smaller side. My top picks are the Yook Hwe (raw beef), Gomtang, and Gweji Rice Bowl. The Gomtang is their signature dish and the broth is beautifully clear yet packed with deep flavor. The meat in the Gweji Rice Bowl and Pork Jowl Sooyuk are quite similar, so I'd suggest getting the rice bowl and choosing a different appetizer for variety. The only miss for me was the Seafood Rice Bowl. The salmon ceviche and roe leaned a bit too fishy for my taste.

Random night out at Nui without a reservation! We called ahead and the staff were super nice, trying to fit us in . The modern design caught my eye! We ordered Seafood Jeon ($23) - a seafood pancake loaded with Asian chives and shrimp, super crispy! And they merged with Western style topped with dill and Brasil! Vinegared mackerel ($19) with seaweed and wasabi, a nice combo to try!! Gomtang ($23), a soothing Asian soup with rich flavor and sliced pork! Good for both summer and winter!! Tried their matcha splash as dessert!! Rich matcha and best combination with oak milk~ love it!! Will come back again for sure!!

This is not your typical Korean BBQ style food. It was more small flavourful plates of deliciousness. The tables were all taken or reserved, but we were able to snag the last bar seating which was perfect for watching them make cocktails and drinks. The mackerel came with unseasoned seaweed which we didn't wrap, but rather used it to soak up the leftover sauce.

We reserved a table online. We got to the restaurant earlier. A server told us to give them a bit of time to clean up the table. We walked to a local market on the same street and then walked back to the restaurant. The table was ready. The menu has limited options. We ordered five items to share between two of us. All of them tasted excellent. It was not too salty or too plain. The portion was leaning towards a smaller size. It is a Korean restaurant but it's an upscale and elevated one. More for adults. I didn't see any kids. People come here to celebrate his or her birthday. Some meet up with friends and dine out and catch up. The service was great. Each of the servers was very polite. They would explain to customers about the menu or introduced the food or dishes to customers. They opened in March and now it is mid May. They still call it soft opening. When it is grand opening, I am hoping they will have more options on the menus. And of course I hope they will do well. One side note - there is background music and noise from the customers. Tables and chairs are very close to each other. We could hear the whole conservations from the tables that were next to us on left and right. When some customers talked or laughed very loudly, it was not pleasant. We had to raise our voice and volume in order to talk to each other.

Modern contemporary take on Korean food, while preserving the traditional flavours of Korean cuisine. Highly recommend checking this spot out - good for small groups as this restaurant is on the smaller side and seating can be tight. Gomtang (5/5) Taste: So comforting and warming, a light, pork bone broth that tastes delicious with their in house kimchi/chili sauce. Portion Size: Shareable for 2 people. *MUST TRY* Seafood Rice Bowl (5/5) Taste: This was my favourite dish, I love how the rice tasted flavourful and the salmon was melt in your mouth! Highly recommend. Portion Size: Small, shareable for 2 people or entree for 1 person. Tofu Egg Jim (5/5) Taste: Soft custardy egg tofu with a nice punch of seafood flavour. Portion Size: Small, shareable for 2 people. Value for Money: Even at a higher price point and small portion size, thought the quality of the dishes really delivered. I really enjoyed Nui and would come back!

Had a wonderful time solo dining at Nui after a friend reminded me they were soft opening. At the time of writing this, they have already been open for 2 weeks so far and they're booked and busy! Managed to walk in around 7:30pm and got a seat at the bar right away. I love the minimalist decor with all the silver and the impactful accent of the menu. The service here was fantastic and I couldn't ask for more polite wait staff, as they were very accommodating and friendly. It put me at ease knowing they genuinely wanted me to have a good time dining and took time to introduce the ingredients in each dish. I really wanted to try their signature Gomtang, since I was super excited we finally have an Okdongsik NY type of experience in Vancouver. But a table next to me ordered the Marinated Pork Rice Bowl and I was sold. For soft opening, they have a $4 btg deal for Makguli when you order a main dish (a 500ml btl/carafe goes for $15), so of course I had to order the homemade yuzu makguli, which I greatly enjoyed as an appy. The food came out extremely fast and even came with unlimited kimchi on the side. I like that they're getting people to ask for refills of kimchi to be sustainable and avoid food wastage from what they've noticed in their first couple weeks. Sitting at the bar helped, but if they notice your kimchi is done, they'll take initiative to ask if you'd like a refill. What was funny to me was that all my food arrived but had to ask for cutlery, since it was pretty busy haha. The pork in the bowl was kbbq thickness instead of thick cut pork, but the flavor was all there, had great char and the egg yolk gel helped to combine everything. After having the bowl, it was another easy decision to add the Goguma dessert and it was a great way to tie up the meal. It features a wonderfully cohesive combo of vanilla bean ice cream topped with crunchy candied korean sweet potato and korean grain powder.

Always eager to try all Korean Restaurants, this one was the one i wouldn't go back anymore. Small with a big price tag. small cozy very simple dinning area. Tiny kitchen. The seating is rather small and very uncomfortable. about 4 -6inch gap between each table. For food, the Gom Tang, the only good thing is the soup, very yummy and refreshing. the noodle is boring and didn't rinse to get rid of the bad taste. the slice pork is quiet smelly. The seafood pan cake, the ingredients are very fresh, big thump up for that, but need other seafood like clam, also having tough time eating it because it wasn't cut by the chef. the service still need improvement, only one time water refilled before the payment. Finally, after seeing the food, 30 dollar tips and tax included for that Gom Tang, i wouldn't pay half for what i got.

We ordered a set with gimbap, tteokbokki, and noodles. The gimbap was generously stuffed with colorful vegetables and rice, wrapped tightly in seaweed and sliced nicely, fresh, clean flavors, and perfect for sharing. The tteokbokki had that classic sweet-and-spicy sauce, with chewy rice cakes that really hit the spot (comfort food at its best). The noodles were light but surprisingly satisfying, served warm and simply topped, a great balance alongside the richer, spicy dish. Everything came out neatly on a tray, which made it feel casual and fun, like a cozy quick meal you'd come back to often. Overall, Nomnom Seoul is a great spot for an easy, comforting bite with friends. Simple Korean favorites done well, with good portions and a relaxed vibe. I'd happily return again

Kimbab was quite voluminous and I could only eat half of it. The cold noodles were no soup and had a lot of vegetables in the them. They answered all my questions and offered recommendations, and were very welcoming. Nam San seems to be very popular for their Soondae (blood sausage). However, I've never really tried Soondae before and I was feeling nauseous on the day of my visit--so I opted for something more mild and less "adventurous" instead. I will definitely be back to try their Soondae next time though. Daeji Gukbap 10/10 This boiled bowl of stew was exactly what my upset tummy needed. I always order the same thing, a mixed pork offal and soondae soup. You can choose the spiciness level when you order but they also offer red pepper flakes and fish sauce on the side to add to taste. It comes in small and large, with a side of pickled radish, roasted seaweed, and white rice. Even with the small, you get a lot of meat in the hot stone bowl and it is so comforting. The offal is super tender but the star here is definitely the soondae. Pork blood and vermicelli with spices are encased in an intestine casing, making for a unique springy texture.
