We got a reservation for 5pm so that we could beat the rush and get the happy hour prices ($4 off per roll). The interior is a bit dark but also has a nice ambiance as they have a candle per table. The food is known to come out quite slow. For the 4 of us, we initially ordered 4 rolls, which took 40 minutes to come. The fifth roll has faster. I personally liked the volcano roll because it was crunchy, but the others were fine too (spider, rainbow, texan). I did not have high expectations for a vegan sushi place, since sushi for me is all about the raw meat, but I'd say that this is really not bad at all. Although, I only say so because of the happy hour pricing that we got. There's plenty of parking in front and on the side of the building. I'd be back, but only with a vegan friend haha read more

I went for my birthday and it exceeded all expectations. I'd been to an all-vegan Japanese restaurant in Las Vegas, but this was far better in every way. It's truly dark magic how they can simulate raw sushi with plant based foods. Agedashi Tofu, the signature rolls, nigiri were all amazing. read more

Came here for dinner on a Tuesday evening. They were fairly busy, but we didn't encounter a wait. If you're coming on a busnier night it might be worth looking into a reservation. I thought the menu was super interesting, even beyond the sushi options, and had a pretty hard time deciding on what to order. We decided to share the No Salmon Nigiri, Shiitake roll, and Creamy Crunchy roll. All 3 came out quite good, but the Shiitake roll was the clear star of the meal. The shiitake mix brought a great savoriness that went super well with the miso caramel sauce. The little bits of tempura on top gave a nice crunch without overwhelming the roll. This one is a must order for your first time! The No Salmon nigiri is not kidding because it absolutely does not taste anything like salmon. This is absolutely a lemon citrus roll with a hint of sesame. I liked it a lot, but don't expect it to even try approximating a traditional salmon roll. I'd be curious if the other nigiri fall into the same boat of being a vessel for other flavors. The Creamy Crunchy most closely approximated its traditional sushi counterpart. If you've had fried rolls before, this is a pretty similar experience and honestly wouldn't be super out of place at an American sushi buffet. I thought the richness and slight bit of heat worked well together, but a deep fried roll with cream cheese won't be for everyone The one notable ding I would give them is the relative lack of service. They were pretty short staffed and seemed to only have two servers handling a large volume of tables. Our server was nice and helpful when we asked questions, but was pretty inattentive and slow overall. He gave a few recommendations that we wanted to think over, but we sat with our menus closed for quite a while before he returned to take our order. Our pretty small cups of water were also never refilled in our time there. Understandable given the number of tables he was working with, but doesn't give the restaraunt a pass for understaffing. Overall, I think this spot is worth checking out whether you're a lover of traditional sushi or a vegetarian/vegan in search of trying for the first time. I haven't experienced many vegan sushi restaraunts, but this is definitely the tastiest I've been to. I certainly hope to come back in the future to explore more of their menu. read more

One of my really good friends suggested we come here a while ago, and we finally made time for it last week. Eating here was utterly delightful. If you're looking to expand your palate's taste buds, you came to the right place. The ambiance here is so relaxed and the space was so well decorated you wouldn't know that it used to be a Five Guys. We sat in the back area where the ceilings have skylights, so even when the sun was setting, you still got a decent amount of light to see the menu or your food. I loved the illustrations for the cocktail portion of the menu for a visual cue of what adventure you'd like to take. I ended up doing the Yuzu from the mocktails and added vodka to it. It was light, refreshing, and packed a punch. Our server was very patient, and knowledgeable, and gave some good recommendations/feedback in response to all of our questions. For dinner, we ordered two rolls- the shiitake and the creamy crunchy (since they were $4 off during HH), and the lion's mane steak. I've eaten vegan food before, but something about how these rolls are seasoned and each component melds harmoniously felt like I was eating "normal" sushi. This was also my first time trying lion's mane mushroom and the color, texture, and flavor was oddly mind-boggling (in a good way!). That was more than enough food to share between two gals, but we had to go the extra mile and get dessert. The chocolate lava cake did not disappoint. I walked away feeling full, yet grateful to have experienced the multitude of flavors that plant-based cuisine can offer. read more

I had their spicy ramen here and it definitely was a bit too spicy my mouth was hurting for about 3 days after. Definitely could tone it down on the spice level next time. Also it was kind of expensive, but still the reason why I left it at a 4 is because getting past the spiciness the flavor of the ramen was very interesting I really liked it. Also the restaurant was beautiful inside one of the prettiest restaurants I've ever been to. The server was extremely nice as well no idea what his name was. read more

Hats-off to the management for coming up with a creative menu featuring plant-based Sushi and making vegan lives easier by letting them into the magnificent Japanese sushi world. Nori, is very close to downtown and still has ample parking space. It was a breeze making and amending reservations. We were a group of 7 and booked it for a Sunday dinner. My order: Edamame Spicy Ponzu Spring Roll Volcano Creamy Crunchy Rainbow Manhattan Spicy Creamy Ramen Let me start off with the Ramen! The broth was super flavored and infused with spices. The noodle was a little on the soggier side but the noodle with the tofu went really well. My favorite sushi was the Creamy Crunchy and Rainbow. The mix of veggies, tofu, and crunchy outer body. The avocado in the rainbow sushi was so creamy. The creativity was with the caviar which was so close to the real ones. Loved the experience. read more

Nori is unique. Vegan/vegetarian Japanese cuisine. That choice places an enormous burden on preparation, substitutes and sauces. Nori brings it off marvelously. First the ambience is soothing, calm and even a little romantic. Lots of couples enjoying fine dining together at Nori is testimony to that. Service from the hostess all through the waitstaff was initially superb -- cordial and helpful to the nth degree. And we're are a party of 5 adults, a toddler and an infant. The staff went beyond the call of duty to serve us, including getting kids dishes out to us chop chop so the younguns were placated. As the evening wore on DIL sensed some irritation on the part of some staff with the extra work involved on our part with handling babies, particularly as we were going through the logistics of packing up baby gear. That little display almost cost them a star. We started with both edamames - regular and spicy. The regular was, well, regular and very acceptable, but the spicy was just sharp enough to be really interesting. Daughter and I shared several items. The nigiri sampler is a must, just to see how they creatively substitute plant based items for seafood. The tomato-based salmon substitute, for example, was very well executed in both taste and texture. We also tried the Katsura nigiri, mushrooms treatment substituted for fried chicken. The nigiri itself was savory and crisp and rich, but the sauces (spicy Mayo in two forms, sweet soy sauce and negi) were splendid. So much so that I stole a slice of toddler grandson's roll to use in sopping more of it up. Nori does incredible stuff with mushrooms across the menu and with sauces. We added the sunflower roll, a wild combination with tomato based salmon, crisp tempura tofu and an unusual sauce. Maybe not as uniquely delicious as the Katsu nigiri but a more than adequate dish. Arigato gozi maas, Nori. Thank you very much. read more

My friend, who is vegan, made reservations for us at Nori a couple of weeks ago. I am personally not a vegan or vegetarian but I enjoy trying new places to eat of that caliber. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful and I wish I knew where they got their tableware from because it's stunning. The dimly lit restaurant gives off chill and laidback vibes. It can get a little loud if you go during peak dinner hours but it's not too bad. Our server was very sweet and answered all of our questions and didn't hesitate to give us recommendations. We decided to split an order of Onigiri, brussel sprouts, and Lions mane steak. Everything was absolutely amazing but my favorite dish was the Lions mane steak. I was amazed by how it was prepared and marinated. For dessert, we had to get the chocolate cake with ice cream. I am looking forward to coming back to this restaurant and trying more amazing things on the menu. I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

Excellent and beautiful - even for non-vegans! Happy hour menu/prices on Wednesday a bonus. Got the Hurricane or Tornado sushi roll, hot saki, edamame, and bao tacos (aka vegan pork bao rolls). Totally yummy and beautiful presentation. Can't believe it was vegan sushi! The lighting of crafty weaved chandeliers and glass orbs were beautiful as well. The solution to a major gap in plant-based/vegan eating has arrived The ambiance is gorgeous and our server was one of the top 10 I've experienced in Austin - super patient, kind and knowledgeable. We made it during Happy Hour and saved $3 on each cocktail and $4 on each of our rolls. We started with a fresh and tasty cocktail. We ordered a Spicy Agave Margarita (and they let you specify how spicy) and a That Drink Over There (nomz). We started with gyoza and the order had 4 and we def could have had more. We also ordered three different rolls. The Shiitake was our favorite ..and the most expensive, but I would order again because it was that good. The mushrooms added a texture and umami flavor that felt more like traditional sushi. We also had the Volcano and Creamy Crunchy. Both were great! For vegans this is a treat. We weren't sure if they would take the veggie route or the try-and-use-fake seafood products/mimic seafood route. I believe they have one Good Catch roll but the rest seem more veggie based. Both are valid ways, but if you were curious these are not "tomato lox turned salmon" type rolls:) The tempura, sauces, and textures still bring back those special sushi date nights we used to enjoy. Can't wait to go back and try the noodle dishes! Reservations available on their website. Parking: Yes! Next to Pad Thai (connected restaurant). Dress: it's Austin...could look nicer or not. But the vibe felt elevated which is a nice change for the plant-based food scene in ATX. read more

If you don't love the seafood aspect of sushi (like my husband...I guess no one is perfect, after all) or if you do love it but you're discouraged from eating sushi for medical reasons, this place has practically been made for your situation. I must admit that I was hesitant to try a vegan place but I'm glad that I did. The ambiance is very sultry which is great for a date night or a happy hour. And the food is very creative with their presentation and flavors for all the menu items. My favorites were the nigiri sampler and the volcano maki. It had a little bit of a kick but I can be a bit of a wimp so most others probably won't notice it. read more

I'm not vegan but this is my favorite sushi roll place in Austin. I've brought other non-vegans and recommend it constantly to people. The rolls are so well crafted and balanced with great flavor, that I don't feel like fish is missing at all. It also makes the cost more affordable since there is no meat. I've tried most of the rolls at the this point and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Every time I go, I'm excited to go the next time to try more. Happy Hour - I would definitely recommend going early during happy hour as they have a discount off rolls. Parking - a little bit tight. There is a lot that fills up easily but there is street parking nearby. Inside the restaurant - this is a great date night restaurant with moody lighting. The insides are very modern, vampy, and beautiful. I would recommend the hearts of palm, the dragon, and the spider roll (especially this one if you love mushrooms). The only one I've tried so far I didn't like as much is the volcano roll. The shell is a little too crunchy and overpowered by the sweet potato. I would recommend the nigiri sampler, as well if you like trying new foods for novelty. All the nigiri is made of vegan ingredients and the plating is beautiful. My favorites were the tamago/egg and the mushroom. It is difficult to share. read more

I have to admit I was skeptical when my mom chose Nori for Mother's Day dinner. Vegan Japanese food didn't sound appealing, but I was so wrong! Our dining experience at Nori was an absolute delight. The restaurant is small, cozy and beautifully decorated. Service was quick and friendly. Parking is a little challenging - tiny lot but we were able to find street parking a short walk away. They have a great selection of cocktails and mocktails - I enjoyed the spicy margarita very much. For food, we ordered: - Ceviche - super flavorful with a nice crunch! - Brussels sprouts - these were so delicious and a generous shareable portion size - Yakisoba noodles - absolutely fantastic, so flavorful! I will be coming back just for this dish! - Japanese curry - my least favorite item, I didn't care for the sauce but my mom and sister enjoyed it - cheesecake - I was surprised this was vegan because it tasted exactly like regular cheesecake. So tasty and the perfect way to end our meal! read more

All vegan restaurant ran by vegan owners! Certified vegan wine, and all vegan cocktails was a plus. Military discount available (5%). Happy hour between 5-6:30pm! Loved the vibe of the place and it was totally packed! So clearly a popular joint. Based on my thoughts below, I don't think I'd come here for the sushi rolls again... They had good elements, but the execution was off when you're used to eating authentic sushi from Japanese chefs. The ramen and bowls looked fabulous though, so I'd try those next time! Natalie, behind the bar, was also fabulous; I came alone, and she totally made my night! So, a few thoughts ... I got the Manhattan. I loved the mayo but you can get that on the side. I also loved all of the ingredients Inside of the roll. However, I thought the roll needed more spice to counteract the mango. I would also put the mango inside the roll, as directly on top is too acidic, and tends to burn your tongue (maybe put avocado on top instead). The fried onion texture felt out of place against the soft textures of avocado, eggs, and cream cheese, and sticks in your teeth. So overall, I wasn't such a fan. I'll note though, this wasn't one of the recommended rolls. I also ordered the espresso martini. I watched drink after drink come out completely full to the top and then I got mine (you can see the starting line). For $14, there's much to be desired here. The taste was excellent, but I would just stress consistency in pours. I also got the volcano; this was recommended as the most popular roll. The size was huge, so good value for your money. However, again, the texture thing, which I've never noticed while eating sushi. The sweet potato was overpowering! It took up the whole roll. It needs to be half the size, and it needs a crunch, such as a pickled radish. I might also tempera the ingredients Inside the roll, as opposed to the roll itself. Anyways... like I said, they're so close, just need refined execution here. I saw everyone getting bowls, so I say, get that! read more

First, we went on a Wednesday night so maybe their rock star staff was not working. The service was spotty. We didn't get our drinks until nearly our meal arrived and then one drink was wrong and had to be remade. Our waitress wasn't very good about checking on us. The apps were great although the cauliflower ended up making use gassy the next day. The sushi was unique and tasty. The restaurant wasn't smelly as in we didn't arrive home with fried food smells on our clothing. The seating and atmosphere were pleasant if a little cramped. read more

Absolutely loved the food here!! My sister and I visited for dinner and originally had a reservation for 6:15pm, but we arrived early and they were flexible and sat us at 5pm. The lighting is dim, and the decor and environment appear elevated but also casual. We tried the volcano roll ($14, my personal favorite), the shiitake roll ($22, my sister's favorite), the dragon ($16, very good), rainbow ($17, ok), and the spider ($12, smallest and cheapest but still tasted very delicious). Every bite was full of creative flavor and textures. We devoured everything in addition to getting the lavender mocktail ($8) and the lava cake ($10 without ice cream). The drink was refreshing and very lemony, while the chocolate lava cake was so rich and well-balanced with fresh strawberries and a fruit sauce. As it was happy hour (5-6:30pm on a weekday), the mocktails/cocktails were $3 off, and the sushi/maki rolls were $4 off, so the total bill (excluding tip) came out to $82. Overall, an amazing meal and pretty good prices during happy hour. This is my new fave spot in Austin for vegan food! read more

The food was delicious and service wonderful. I truly enjoyed celebrating my birthday there last night. We had the Brussels sprouts and they were sweet, spicy and beautifully roasted. My sister stumbled across this restaurant when we were looking for vegan sushi during our stay in Austin. We are both have a fish allergy and we wanted to try something other than veggie rolls. We arrived at Nori for our 7PM reservation and seated quickly next to the window. The inside was modern and the lighting was dim and warm. Our server was friendly and guided us through their menu. There were so many drink and food options to choose from. We ordered the no-salmon nigiri, volcano, dragon, and shiitake roll. And WOW they were all amazing! The no-salmon nigiri was interesting but tasty. I enjoyed the texture from the volcano roll and the miso caramel sauce on the shiitake roll. I would recommend the shiitake roll out of all the four rolls we tried! We will definitely come back! read more

Nori is my new go- to if I'm looking to have a beautiful vegan meal or a special night out. The space is modern and dimly lit with a few tables in the back.My husband and I tried Nori on a Friday night and was pleasantly surprised! We decided to sit at the bar, and the bartenders were very social and accommodating. The stars of the show was the tuna nigiri and the volcano roll. The tuna had the same exact texture as real tuna! I loved it!! The volcano roll was dense with yummy sweet potato, avocado and chili sauce. The salmon was also pretty good and had a nice yuzu flavor - it just didn't have the same texture as salmon. I would say 5 rolls is good enough to share with two people. It can get a bit pricy so I recommend trying their Monday all day happy hours! read more

A cool hip new vegan spot in Austin. Was pretty excited to try this place but honestly, not worth the hype. Went for happy hour to get the $4 off rolls deal. Overall pretty tasty. The egg tamago on the manhattan roll was not convincing at all. The lava cake was yummy. Very rich chocolate flavor with the strawberry jam was so yummy. The ice cream was not worth. The service was incredibly slow and our waitress was not attentive at all. I would not see myself back here. read more

tl;dr this place is amazing, you must try it. It's an interesting choice for location- fine dining vegan sushi just up the road from the UT campus across the street from a drive-thru beer barn in a spot that used to be a Five Guys...but I am here for it! Everything was great. Service, presentation, flavors and textures all hit the mark. The drinks weren't too strong, which was good for us. If you're a college student looking for sake bombs and overly strong, cheap drinks...why are you going to a fine dining vegan sushi restaurant? Special callout for using a skinned tomato (which looked surprisingly like tuna) and the vegan tamago. I am normally not a fan of Just Egg by itself, but as tamago it really works. This is what we got, recommend all: beet fries nigiri sampler volcano creamy crunchy hearts of palm roll We went during their soft open, so there may be some changes over the next several months as Nori finds its footing. If they had a suggestion box, my one request would be to add more Asian-inspired desserts. Of course their desserts are all vegan which is already a feat, but if they took it even further with a vegan yuzu cheesecake or vegan mochi, it would be that much more impressive. read more

As someone who is not vegan, I was skeptical of vegan sushi, but Nori has completely won me over. The sushi rolls here are beautiful and the flavors are very intricate and unique. I had no idea vegetables could be dressed up like this! I went with friends and tried a variety of things: hearts of palm roll, volcano roll, manhattan roll, spider roll, shishitos, and meatballs. My favorite items were definitely the spider and heart of palm rolls. My friends really enjoyed the Manhattan though, which I thought tasted a little odd with the combination of "just egg" and cream cheese. The shishitos and meatballs were okay but very small. Thinking about this restaurant, I would definitely go again but the value of the small dishes is disappointing. The rolls are priced alright ($13-$18), so I would recommend sticking to the rolls and passing on the other dishes. The service was good and parking was easy. read more

Nori is one of my favorite places to eat. A bit pricy for sushi without the fish but totally worth it. Every bite was a flavor explosion. Both rolls had a great texture and flavor (I don't like a mushy roll). The spicy edamame is really good too but a tad salty. My partner had the Yakisoba noodles, they were very flavorful however he was disappointed there was more cabbage then there was noodles, however , still highly recommend!! The cheese cake was good wish it had a little more crust for texture. But it came with fresh strawberries and blueberries along with mango sherbet. Cute place, very dim lighting - kinda small indoor area so reservations are definitely recommended but not required! The server we had was very quick and polite, and made sure our drinks were always full. We then got two maki rolls: volcano which is the most popular and then the newest one the menu sunflower. The volcano roll was a bit of a messy presentation but had loads of flavor. It is quite filling since it is deep fried. The sunflower was yummy, I loved the spiciness. We ended our meal with the decadent, dark chocolaty lava cake. It's a must! I usually use the "oh I don't like raw meat" excuse when people try to drag me out for sushi, but when my so called girlfriend insisted we come here for date night I knew I had no choice. HOWEVER, I can say without a doubt that by the end of dinner I had fallen in love (with the sush). AMBIANCE: The japandi style interior was serene. It's up in the air whether I'll redecorate my apartment or just move to Asia. FOOD: Came out very quickly! The Volcano was my favorite and paired so well with the Spicy Toona I'd recommend getting both. Impossible meat usually gives me the creeps but the Impossible Gyoza was delectable. This is a review from someone who isn't completely plant-based, loves sushi, and could eat it for every single meal if possible. I found my experience at Nori to be a very interesting one indeed. Between me and a friend, I was able to try the following items: Shiitake Gyoza - these were excellent! The apricot gastrique gave it a nice acidic flavor instead of a traditional vinegar. Nigiri Sampler - this was great to try out different options but I preferred some over others. The tomato was very unique and refreshing and I enjoyed it. Tamago with vegan egg was nice as expected. I also liked the mushroom one quite a bit. The others were a bit basic for my tastes, though. Texan Roll - I really enjoyed this roll. The blueberry sauce and pickled wasabi really stood out to me and were very unique additions to a sushi roll. Spicy Toona Roll (my friend ordered but I had half) - tasted a lot like a normal spicy tuna roll! I wondered what they used as the tuna substitute and it was actually a bit intense for my friend, who is fully vegan. Molten Cake w/ Ice-cream - this was just okay. The molten cake was a bit burnt so it made it a little bitter. The ice cream was decent and helped but would probably try the mango cheesecake next time. The location is interesting since it's in a spot popular for students (Five Guys used to be here). But definitely a welcome vegan addition. The service was also great and friendly, and she provided recommendations on things when we asked. read more

Nori - Nigiri Sampler - Vegan Near Me - Austin, Texas

I'm a big fan of vegan sushi and have tried it in several restaurants that offer it as an option. The sushi at Nori is alright but too over priced. Nori's location or ambience is nothing to write home about, so the price cannot be justified. The menu was limited and sushi dishes were not as diverse as I have had in other places. We tried the volcano roll and crunchy cream roll makis and nigiri sampler. The maki rolls were creative and tasty. I would not recommend the sampler.. it was an assortment of simple sushi with rice and different toppings such as avocado, tofu, tuna (tomato), mushroom and egg. Definitely not worth the $17 price tag. read more
