First time trying Uyghur cuisine and it was fire! These folks really came through with some banger halal food. The restaurant is inside a Best Western hotel down in the basement. Only one person working the front and most of the tables were full. We took our order to go. This is a really unique cuisine you do not find everywhere. Portions were good and the flavors felt authentic, comforting, and satisfying. Lamb polo was solid. Tender lamb with carrots, not spicy, and great for kids. The steamed BBQ had similar meat to the lamb polo, served with corn and onions. Lamb and beef kawap were good, though personally a little heavy on the cumin for me. Laghman was simply great. Chewy hand pulled noodles with rich, spicy meat and veggies. Chili chicken was good. Sauteed beef with scallions was pretty good on its own though I liked the other dishes more. Overall, really enjoyed this spot. Authentic Uyghur flavors, halal, and something different from the usual. Definitely worth trying if you are in the area.

First time trying Uyghur food. The noodles are very chewy and filling. The soup base is tomato soup. Lamb likely will taste better when it is bbq. Overall it is good.

DaPanJi/Big Plate Chicken. Small size for $25.50. Excellent. Best of the mains

I found out about this halal Uyghur cuisine a while ago and went here back in mid August with one of my usual groups. The space was nicely designed especially for being downstairs from a hotel lobby. The room was unfortunately not air conditioned but we made do with the staff bringing over water frequently which was appreciated. While not my favorite place for this cuisine, we overall had a good meal with a couple of definite highlights. Our first dish was the highlight which was the Lamb Kawap or skewers (or insert other names depending on culture) which were $4.99 each. The lamb on these skewers was very tender compared to most versions I've had with there being plenty of meat on each of them. The cumin and other spices shined so it was both well flavored and well spiced. I would recommend these heavily. My favorite of the main dishes as per most others was the DaPanJi or Big Plate Chicken which is available in a wide variety of sizes. We got the small one which was $25.50 and it was massive even at a small size and I could imagine the large one feeding our whole table of 12. Outside of the size, the hand pulled noodles on the bottom had a nice chew to them and there were plenty of pieces of chicken on the bone which was very tender. The rest of the dish consisted of very tender potatoes which absorbed the the same well flavored gravy as well as a bit of scallions and only a handful of bell peppers which is definitely my preference as I'm not a huge fan of them and some spots add a whole lot of them. The Cumin Mushrooms for $22.50 also had a nice portion which partially justified the price point. A good amount of other people found the dish a bit salty but I didn't mind especially with rice and it went well with some of the other dishes which were lighter on the salt such as the lagman or the polo. The texture of the mushrooms were nice otherwise and this would work as a good side dish though I wouldn't mind a small version of this as an appetizer or something similar especially as it as noted was good with more dishes than as large plate. The Lamb Polo for $20 was pretty good especially based on the first impression as the dish looked a little bit bland compared to most polo/pulao/plov/pilaf I have had before mostly due to the lamb. The meat on top was very tender though I don't think it was cooked with the rice or any of the lamb was used to flavor said rice (or just a little bit.) I prefer other places which incorporate some of the lamb fat or cook the meat within the rice or something similar. The rice otherwise was similar to the Uzbek version due to the carrots though thankfully not to sweet. The Lagman With Beef for $18 was also pretty good though I have had better. The noodle texture was nice and bouncy and there was a pretty good amount of beef in there but I found the flavors a little bit light almost needing the excellent chili oil/ black vinegar on the table which isn't usually necessary for this dish. If everything was as good as the big plate chicken as well as the skewers/kawap, I would add a star to my rating. However, there are other Uyghur spots which have more consistency among their dishes. Regardless, I would still go back and try more as the meats and noodles were very tasty.

A great restaurant inside the Best Western! This was my first time trying Uyghur food, and it was delicious! I got the spicy laghman with lamb and milk tea. I loved the noodles, which had a delightfully chewy texture. They were excellent when covered in the sauce, which had a decent amount of spice but not an overwhelming amount. There was a good amount of lamb, which was tender and flavorful. The dish also came with some veggies like red bell peppers, jalapeños, and tomatoes. As much as I loved the laghman, I have to confess I didn't quite love the milk tea. It didn't look super appetizing with the film on the top, and I took a sip of the tea and was disappointed to find no sweetness. It wasn't bad - I still drank it - but I likely wouldn't get it again. The service was a tad on the slow side, but the staff was nice, and I appreciated that one of the workers got my attention just as I got to the door of the restaurant and didn't let me leave without my water bottle, which I had left at the table.

I have always wanted to try uyghur cuisine! The main street location across from Queens Botanical Garden was always inconvenient for me to get to so I'm glad a new uyghur cuisine located in the lower level of the Best Western hotel in Flushing opened up. Much to my surprise, the restaurant was not dark and muggy. In fact, it was very bright and comfortable. I came on a weekday night and the place was half filled when I got seated. Then, 15 minutes later - it was completely filled. There was one main waiter that took all our orders and brought our food out. He was nice and gave us a big hug of ice lemon water upon seating. My friend and I decided to share everything which is the best when it comes to trying new things! We ordered the beef laghman, cumin tofu, chicken kawap, and nurlan milk tea. The beef laghman had very chewy noodles with a bunch of beef, woodear, tomatoes and peppers. The sauce was red, but it was not spicy at all. The cumin tofu was crispy and flavorful with spices. The chicken kawap has a similar spice flavor and was very tender - cooked perfectly! The nurlan milk tea was not strong, but milky instead. If you like the taste of whole milk, it's definitely for you! If you like coffee, I heard the Turkish coffee is good as well! Otherwise, they have a fridge full of alternate bottled drinks and well as a fridge for desserts including baklava! There is also a discount if you pay in cash. Overall, everything we ordered was delicious and I can't wait to come back!

Famous XinJiang Chicken ("Big Plate Chicken") $25.50 (small)....this was a huge dish for the "small" size! Five ppl can easily share this.

Uyghur cuisine at its best! For those who have never hear of Uyghur: Uyghur cuisine is halal, and a unique fusion of flavors from China and Central Asian (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan). It is known for its hearty dishes, with emphasis on lamb, noodles, and spices. Uyghur people primarily live in Xinjiang (also known as East Turkistan/Turkestan, Eastern Turkistan/Turkestan, Uyghuristan, or Chinese Turkistan). Many years ago, I visited the original Nurlan restaurant near the Queens Botanical Gardens on Main Street, when they first opened. Soon after, that restaurant was sold to new owners; that restaurant is now called Nurlan Uyghur Restaurant, and is still open now. The original owner opened New Nurlan on 39th St about a year ago. It's located in the lower level of the Best Western Hotel. There are stairs and an elevator leading to the basement. Nothing fancy; small restaurant. But.....the food is packed with flavor! There was not a bad dish! Note that portion sizes are large, and they do offer a cash discount! The consensus among my group of 12 was they loved the food and can't wait for a return visit. Here is our Menu (shared in groups of 4): ~ Lagman w.Beef $18: very flavorful dish; but I liked the texture of the flat hand-pulled noodles in the Big Plate Chicken dish more than this Lagman. ~ Lamb Polo $20: at first glance, this lamb (with bones) looked like bland boring boiled meat....Wrong! It was neither bland nor boring, but very tender and packed with flavor. What a nice surprise. ~ Cumin Mushrooms $22.50: this dish was good; albeit very over salted. It was better when added to the noodles or rice; making it less salty. Also, I question the high price of this dish. $23 for mushrooms?! ~ DaPanJi (aka Famous XinJiang Chicken or Big Plate Chicken) $25.50/small: This was one of the Best dishes of the night! First, I was shocked at the very large portion for a "small" size! This dish comes in small, medium and large. 5 ppl could have easily shared this small sized dish. Outstanding dish! The hand-pulled noodles were perfection; excellent texture! My fave noodle dish tonight. And the chicken (on the bone) was incredibly tender and flavorful. Recommended! ~ Lamb Kawap (skewers) $4.99 each: these skewers were so well seasoned! At first glance, they looked very plain but they were packed with flavor. Get these! So the theme with these Uyghur dishes were flavor, flavor, flavor! Each dish was packed with flavor and there was not a bad dish in the bunch. Due to the large portion sizes, we had plenty of leftovers; which nobody complained about, and gladly took home. We would definitely return to try other menu items! One downside of this restaurant is that they are located in the basement, with an open ceiling; leading to the Best Western Hotel lobby. This definitely brightens the feel of the basement restaurant, but there were two issues tonight: 1. On this hot & especially humid evening, the mild air conditioning could not be contained in the restaurant due to their open ceiling. We were all sweating the entire time we were eating. 2. Due to the open ceiling, you couldn't help but smell the strong essence of Marijuana coming from the hotel lobby; especially when walking up the stairs to the main lobby. As it turns out, there were 5-6 boys, ranging from 13-14 yrs old, smoking marijuana right outside of the front door of the hotel. The automatic front door kept opening, letting all that smoke into the lobby; eventually down to the restaurant. The boys came into the lobby and we're hanging out in the lobby. They proceeded to get cups of water from the hotel water cooler, and kept pouring cups of water over their heads; making a complete wet mess in the lobby, all over the tables, chairs and floor. Yup, they were flying high as a kite and were bothering everyone in the lobby! I actually questioned the employee (manager??) at the front desk about why this is being allowed in their hotel lobby, and he said he felt bad to kick them out because it was raining outside. What?!?! (He was serious!). They were not guests of the hotel. (Where are their parents?!?! How did they even get the marijuana?!?! Isn't this illegal for 13/14 yr olds??). The employee/mgr actually asked me if he should kick them out...Really?! If this were my hotel, they would have been kicked out a long time ago. Why is the employee/Mgr(?) asking my advice; a random person in the lobby? Lmaooo Anyway, I digress. It's not New Nurlan's fault that the hotel allows pot smokin' preteens to hang out in their lobby. But yeah, the open ceiling is a problem. Come to New Nurlan for the food, not the atmosphere! If you've never tried Uyghur cuisine before, this is the place to come! Looking forward to a return visit!

The third uyghur restaurant ive ever tried, and while it seems to be an offshoot of the original nurlan restaurant in main street flushing, i personally think new nurlan falls slightly short of the original. Came here with a relatively large group and ordered a bunch of items, cumin beef, a steamed lamb with corn, big pan chicken, Marco polo and cumin mushrooms. All the dishes were delicious, with the surprising standout being the cumin mushrooms, but as good as all the dishes were, the other two big uyghur restaurants ive been to just did an overall better rendition of most if not all the items ive had here. The one dish I wasn't too impressed with was the lamb with the corn as it seemed bland in comparison to the other uyghur dishes ive tried. Overall this is not a bad options, it gets a huge boost due to the location and convenience, but there are better more out of the way options out there.

I came here with a group that mostly ordered meat dishes that I couldn't eat, but I did get to try the cumin mushrooms and cumin tofu. OMG, I wanted to eat my entire weight in them both. They were fried and then tossed with veggies and seasonings, so they were crunchy but still tender. We also got the wood ear mushroom dish, which was also very good. The servers were friendly and helpful, able to tell me what I couldn't have in various dishes. They told me the halva that came with my Turkish coffee had dairy in it, so I gave it to my friends to share. There aren't many vegan items on the menu but the three that I got to sample were excellent. I would easily come back JUST for those cumin mushrooms. I'm drooling just thinking about them!

Interesting location, as it is downstairs in a hotel. The skewers were grilled well, while the meat pie had a crunchy exterior. Prices were a bit high given the quantity of food.

It's a shame there's not a lot of Uyghur food around and I'm glad another one popped up. They don't know a whole lot of English, but their menu is in English so you can just point to order. Food is amazing in itself. Especially the lamb and rice. They also have lunch special during the weekends.

New Nurlan Restaurant is a second iteration of the one located on Main Street. It is located in the lower level of a Best Western hotel. It serves halal Uyghur food. Service was friendly and food was delicious! The lamb kebabs are pricey but juicy and flavorful. Usually polo is disappointing, but they make it well here. The lagman and ravioli soup are also very good.

What an amazing meal as my first time having Uyghur food! Every dish was tasty. Bonus point for the chili oil, which wasn't very spicy or hot, but had this amazing aroma to it. Our waiter was very friendly, although not the best at offering recommendations. I will definitely come back again!

I went here with my sister and friends for an early dinner. We were seated immediately and quickly placed our order. The food arrived quick and everything looked sooo good! We had the langman noodles with chicken and beef, chicken polo, special rice, beef and lamb skewers, and lamb soup. Everything was so delicious!
