Family member told me about Tarim Uyghur Food which is located on the lower level of New World Mall at the Food Court. Had no idea what I ordering. Looked at the pictures and staff said no more and said get the sandwich. I asked if it was lamb and he said yes. Sandwich now cost 12.00 bucks. Had no idea how spicy this was since I do not eat spicy stuff. Good thing I got a glass of Prosecco with water at the hotel bar. I be back to try other items. Saw a customer walked off with Lamb skewers which looked yummy. As for ambiance, there are slew of food stalls and center area chairs and tables for patrons. Got a menu- Always double check for current prices. They do not put fork or napkins in the bag, so grab all materials at the counter.

Large Lamb Small Plate

So my first time in New World Mall, and this was the first spot that pops up. Since I love to try out new cuisines I had never heard of Uyghur before, and thought it was some country near Kazakhstan or something, but out of curiosity went ahead and ordered a dish called the Large Lamb Plate, however you can select a medium or a small plate of the Large Lamb. It was funny enough but the food that arrived was something to take seriously. It was Lamb over hand pulled noodles mixed with potatoes, some carrots and bell pepper. The food is all Halal and was actually pretty good. Spice level was low but as a dish it was filling and different. Glad I tried it.

Cold noodle and kebob

I've only had uyghur food once on the west coast. I didn't notice this stall the last time I was in the mall so it seemed like a good opportunity to check it out. We got the cold noodle with kebab since it was hot outside and wanted something a little lighter. The portions are quite massive. There is definitely some heat to this dish that creeps up on you. I thought the noodles were cooked really well and had a nice chewy, bouncy texture. The kebob was okay, meat was a bit tough so nothing really stood out. Will definitely be back to try out some of their other dishes!

I got the stir fried chicken rice noodles and samsa, and they were both delicious! The noodles were perfectly tender and covered in a flavorful sauce with some decent spice. The noodles also came with plenty of chicken, which was juicy and tasty. The samsa consisted of a flaky pastry shell that contained a well-seasoned meat filling. It was like a baked samosa.

Solid Uyghur spot! To be fair, we only got the Lamb Shish Kebab, but other patrons seemed to enjoy the dishes they got. The large pieces of lamb were quite tender and nicely BBQ-ed, with a tasty cumin seasoning and sesame seeds on top. No complaints!

One of the few halal spots in Flushing. I love when food spots have pictures of what the food looks like, as I am a visualizer. Uzbek plov - one of my lesser favorite Uzbek plovs I have had...it lacked some flavor and the rice grain used was a bit thicker than what I have had in the past. Staff was nice and helped me with a to-go lid for our leftovers. Looks like a family owns and runs it!

My friends and I ordered a dish to split (Uyghur Pilvar). It was my first time trying Uyghur food and it looked super delicious. There is a huge lamb shank with this yellow rice/rasin mix. I thought the lamb shank was tender but lacked flavor. The rice was really good so I enjoyed that. It was great we got all this food for a decent price.

Lagman

Pretty tasty Lagman (stir fried hand pulled noodles). The noodles were thick and chewy, and fried on high heat with lots of aromatics like cumin and chili. I am not usually a huge fan of celery and carrots in stir fries, though the subtle crunch of vegetables balanced out the chewiness of the noodles here. The lamb was a little dry but I think it is meant to be that way. Tarim is the only Uyghur stall in the bustling New World Mall food court, and they bring unique flavor profiles to a center packed to the excess with beef noodle soup, Malatang, dumplings, boba. Come try it out! Look around for what you want for dessert while the food is being made (~15 minutes).

Samsa

Wonderful lamb flavor! It was also very hot. I got two and put the second samsa in my pocket as a hand warmer.

The food was interesting and overall okay. I've heard of this region of China through work, and it was such a treat to actually get to experience the food from this region. The samsa was so so. It wasn't the greatest thing I've had nor the worst. The meat inside was okay, nothing too wowing or providing a flavor kick. It was mellow tasting as if the meat was boiled. The Uyghur pilof was tasty. The lamb leg was huge, and the meat literally falls off the bone. It had enough flavor that I enjoyed it despite its appearance looking lack luster. The pilof was tasty with the raison-like pieces of dried fruit. Again, it had enough flavor even though the colors would perhaps indicate something that would wow your mouth in flavors/spices. Tarim Uyghur Food is located in the food court of New World Mall.

Been here a few times, and so glad that this place continues to offer Uyghur food in the heart of Flushing. Mostly have come here so far for their beef/lamb pockets in the setting of a Food Crawl and it's always an interesting fun moment for everyone. While the most recent time we went the meat was not the most tender, it's kind of like an empanada with middle eastern and Chinese flavors combined into one. It wasn't spicy at all, and the onions added a nice touch. The workers are nice and it's def worth a stop because who knows where else you'll be able to find food like this? Definitely want to come back to try the rest of their items. NYC beats other big cities in that we offer a ton of diversity, represented in our food culture and the fact that we have Uyghur food is a blessing, so take advantage of it.

I've been interested in visiting this place for a while. I don't ties to the area so I'm hardly out here. Finally made my way back and decided to make this the day I ate here. After all, I never had Uyghur food or know what it is. The spot is tucked away in the downstairs food court of the mall. We ordered the food and it came in about 10mins. As you can tell from my stars, I love it! I would honestly say that this place is more of a 4.5. I gave it a 5 because I had no real complaints. The portions are good and the food isn't too expensive. Most importantly, it's good tasting food. I order the rice pilaf with lamb and a samsa, came out to $18. The main dish was satisfying enough. The lamb isn't how I would've wanted it but it was still good. The rice was also delicious. If I could think of a complaint it would be more seasonings or make it spicy. The Samsa was also good, it's not better than samosas or meat filled bread dishes I had. It did taste like something I had before. Couldn't remember what it was though. All in all it was still good though. Finally I tried a bit of the Big Chicken Plate, I thought it tasted good. I only had a few scraps of it. My friend thought the chicken didn't have enough meat. I plan on going back and getting a similar dish. In fact, looking at his plate made me wish I ordered that instead! All in all, a great hidden gem in NYC. If you're a foodie maybe make your way out here so you can try Uyghur food!

Special lagman

Decided to pre-game lunch with my two sisters at this restaurant after we saw all the options throughout the new world food court. I had never had Uyghur food before and was excited to try. I believe if you order from the front, it's cash only. We got one order of the special lagman ($15.50). The dish consists of hand-pulled noodles, woodear mushrooms, bell peppers, beef, and a mala sauce. I think most people had ordered online as they arrived and got their food to go. We ended up waiting over 30 minutes for our one dish to be ready because it seemed like they may have been understaffed? Not sure but would've been nice to be given a time estimate so we could walk around or something instead of sitting at the food court table right in front. It seemed like the employees were friendly though and working as quick as they could. The noodles were delicious, the mala sauce coated them very well. We liked how since the noodles are hand pulled fresh, there was varying textures because they were of different sizes but still each cooked perfectly. The vegetables gave it a nice freshness but there actually wasn't that much meat. I still really enjoyed the sauce though because I drank some of the remaining liquid up when the noodles and toppings were gone. Would definitely try other things on the menu next time and maybe order online!

I wasn't very familiar with Afghan cuisine or what to expect from a halal döner kebab restaurant, but my experience was excellent. One thing I really appreciated was the open kitchen concept. As soon as you walk in, the kitchen is right there on the side, allowing you to watch the food being prepared. Everything feels transparent and fresh. I ordered the chicken gyro, which was packed with flavor and incredibly juicy. I also tried the lamb tikka and beef kofta. Watching the cooks prepare the meat on the large skewers over the grill made the experience even better. The meal came with rice and a side salad, making for a satisfying and well-balanced plate. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. I'll definitely be coming back to explore more of the menu.

I went with a safe option chicken tikka and chicken kofta over rice with no salad. In front of me he pulled a fresh skewer from fridge and put it in the oven. The entire process was visible through a glass so I loved seeing the fresh meat being made. When it arrived it came with fries as well which was a plus. Chicken was fresh and tender, rice was delicious and soft. I enjoyed the meal so much, as I was eating i enjoyed the decor of the store which seemed like a very family friendly spot. I saw an older lady preparing some food so my guess is this is a family business. Im happy to help support them because their food is very good. I would reccomend any item with the rice as its freshly made.

The menu on the monitors keep rotating, so it's best to scan the QR code for the takeout menu for your sanity. You order your dishes through a staff behind the counter. Then you wait by the cashier for your order to get ready. There is no order number and they don't ask for your name, so it's really confusing if or when your order that is ready. You have to remember what you ordered because they're just calling out the dishes! We originally wanted to try Kofta Curry, but was told it's not available well after I finished placing the order. The exact same thing happened when we switched to Lamb Tikka. So the ordering was time consuming and stressful to say the least. We finally ended up with Beef Bihari and Lamb Biriyani. After a good amount of effort trying to track down when our food, I was finally able to pay for our meal. There are a few tables in the back. Once you pay and get your dishes, you can find a place to sit and consume your food. I have also seen people getting table service, but I have no idea how that works. As for the food, the Beef Bihari was extremely heavy in flavor and salty - almost like a moist version of beef jerky, and definitely required a lot of rice or bread to balance it out. The Goat Biriyani was better, but the meat was mostly bones and fat. Overall, we struggled to finish our meal. However, the owner was friendly and accommodating, so I am adding 1 star to the rating.
