I was in the neighborhood so I figured I'd stop in and try another Afghani kebab restaurant unfortunately I was the only one dining for lunch. I ordered a combo of chicken and beef with a mango lassi, which was served warm. Usually the lassi are served cold The food was OK. The chicken was good, but the beef was a bit dry. I usually don't stray too far off the reservation when it comes to this cuisine because some of the spices don't always agree with me. The food here was really good and came out quickly. Our server was great and the yogurt sauce and spicy chili sauce are delicious. We each got a combo platter which was a huge portion. The bill is deceptive. They note on the back of the menu that 18% gratuity is added to all bills regardless of party size which is totally fine if you have exceptional service. However, the bill adds the mandatory gratuity and THEN leaves a suggested tip as many have noted which if you're not paying attention, you could be paying up to double what your meal is! We ordered some food to go and the same gratuity was on the bill. The attitude of the manager responding those these Yelp reviews don't help. read more

Tried the aushak previously as a take out order and ordered the lamb kebab plate with kabuli rice subbed in for dine in more recently. Portions are large and extremely filling. Barely finished half of the lamb kebab plate. Meat was tender, well seasoned, juicy, and lightly aromatic with the sumac seasoning on onions. The green sauce and white sauce were great and combined with the kabuli, cut the meat nicely. I prefer slightly thicker julienned carrots in the kabuli for the texture but the flavors were spot on. Aushak order came with six generously filled dumplings which easily served as a full meal for me despite being an appetizer. Definitely a local favorite! read more

My friends and I dined here recently and it was an absolute pleasure. We ordered the family platter and samboosas to share and were very impressed. Meat was succulent and juicy, rice was super fresh and not very greasy which I loved very much. Their white sauce is really the star of the show. Salad was fresh and light as well. Service was super attentive and friendly. They took good care of us and were so concerned when I almost tripped on the floor. This is a great family restaurant in Hicksville dishing out amazing food. The vibe is very casual and they have big booths/tables which can accommodate large parties. In the background you can hear a faint trill of Pashto songs, which sets the mood right. I finally mustered up the strength of coming here after a friend of mine frequented their affiliate restaurant "Ariana" in the city uptown on 9th Ave. Being that it's afghani food , their kebabs are always on point so I took a crack at it. I got in at a quiet Sunday after a crazy rainy weekend and ordered their beef and lamb kofta plate (which wasn't on the menu but I had to try it. Chicken was boring that day). Service was attentive and pretty much waited , and got my order. The interior was a nice dine-in spot making them family friendly but note to management , get some grease cutting cleaner to clean that floor, it got slippery by the kitchen entrance. I got my order for takeout and yes just as I feared , I ended up with chicken instead of the lamb kofta , but it still tasted pretty awesome so I'll give this place a pass. Rice was on point, white sauce , green sauce was legit and the hot sauce was actually amazing and not so fiery as I thought. I've had a recurring issue with one of the male servers regarding my order. I usually order two beef skewers with bread. When the female manager takes my order, it's always correct and she has confirmed multiple times that bread is not charged. A few months ago, the male server told me I had to pay for the bread, so I paid $3 for four small pieces. Later, I mentioned this to the female manager and she clarified that the restaurant does not charge for bread. Today, when picking up my order, I again requested bread and the same male server insisted on charging me for it. I don't mind paying if something truly costs extra, but it's frustrating to be charged for something that is supposed to be free especially at $3 for four pieces of bread. The male sever mentioned the breads gonna be on the menu priced so apparently we will be getting charged for the bread. Consistency matters, and this repeated experience has been disappointing. The food is very much Afghan and the music is very from Peshawar, gotta love auto-tuned Pashto. Shoutout to Rahim Shah and Nazia Iqbal for making the dining experience feel homey. Got the Qabuli Pulao and Chicken Tikka/Beef Koobideh Combo which were both fresh, good quantity and economical especially given the Afghan food competition in the area. The rice reminds me of what Bakhtar and Choopan used to taste like, glad to see it come back. Perhaps they will introduce some local KPK dishes in the future :) read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVERRRRR! The girl waitress was the rudest human I have ever encountered. My family and I went there for dinner and from the start she was giving us an attitude because we were a group of 25. We had reserved a table and it ended up being less seats than the amount of people we were and asked if we could sit at another table and she had said that they are full even though they had 2 large booths available. I live in Seattle now, but one of the restaurants I request whenever I return home is Kebab House. Every meal I've had is just excellent. My go to is the Chicken Tikka. The chicken is impossibly tender and so well marinated, and it comes with a lovely and spicy green sauce and a cooling white sauce. Great value and a delicious meal. We had a terrible experience at kabab house The skinny tall girl is nasty. She has a huge attitude problem. We placed an order of beef tikka with her and were waiting for it for a little bit. Then we placed the order of another beef tikka to another girl. When food was served we saw a skewer of beef tikka, so we asked her where the whole platter is. Both girls insisted that I ordered a skewer. I definitely did not ask for a skewer; this word "skewer" never came out of my mouth. If they had a confusion or needed more clarity, they should have asked if we wanted a skewer or the whole platter. Remember they are the professionals and we are just random lay people eating there. Any way we understood that there was a misunderstanding, so we said ok can we get the platter now. Finally the food came and while we were eating I asked for tea. After 20 mins, owner/manager brought us tea in paper cups. My son said "Wow!" and the owner said, "Is there a problem?" and my son said "Yes, why are we getting tea in paper cups? We always have tea in nice glasses." He said, "Well they are being washed right now and we have so many ( I remember 70 something that he mentioned) take out orders. And we were appalled. My son said, "Why are you telling us all that, it's none of our business.( Its like a doctor saying to his patient I have too many patients so thats why my quality of care is low, or a pharmacy telling a customer we have too many rxs to fill so thats why the quality of service is poor.) His voice was getting very loud so my son said, "Why are you being so loud?" Thats when my son started recording him. Other Customers could also hear him loud and clear being very grumpy. Unfortunately my son revealed to him that he was being recorded so he got a grip of himself and calmed down a little bit. Just a heads up this extremely skinny girl is extremely nasty and she has a mouth on her. She and other girl lied to the owner that we were yelling and screaming at them which was not true. Thats why in the audio my son confronted the skinny girl saying, "Excuse me excuse me, did we scream and yell at you?" And you can hear her beating about the bush.
