a table and chairs in a restaurant
    Amelia L.

While on my way home the other day, I saw that this new restaurant recently opened so I quickly jumped off the bus to grab a quick snack. My first impression as I entered and saw families hanging out and kids running around, was that this was a nice neighborhood hangout. The inheritor is a clean and feels spacious. It's a fast casual place, you place your order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. I quickly realized that this was a family-owned business and most of the staff only spoke Chinese. Luckily, the menu is also in English so and I was able to get an order of pork, shrimp and vegetable dumplings. The dumplings were juicy and filled with stuffing. I wish it had been fried rather than steamed but I don't think they understood me when I placed my order. Still, it was a good hearty dish, and it was a bargain for $8.99. I ended up ordering frozen dumplings as well ($25 for 50 pieces) to go. Can't wait to fry them up at home.

They care about their patrons and do everything in their power to make you feel welcome. The decor is simple and uncluttered. Just the right amount of art and adornments, without feeling suffocated. My waiter, Khalil, is a fine gentleman and very personable. He would be welcome at my table anytime. Now for the food: We had the appetizer combo, which consisted of a spinach dish, hummus and pitas, and samosas. Best hummus I've ever had. Spinach was spicy and delicious. Samosa was excellent. For the main course we ordered a kebab platter for 4 people. Three kabobs of your choice, served with white or green (dill) rice. The kabobs here are the best I've ever had (I've been here many times, but this is my first review). This is one of my favorite restaurants in the five boroughs. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Ordered the big plate chicken that comes with homemade noodles. The chicken is flavorful and the noodles are the perfect accompaniment. Love the texture of the noodles. Nice and chewy. We loved the lamb skewers. Generous portion for $4.99. Tasted like quality meat with the perfect combo of lean and fat. The baked buns are actually meat pies baked with phyllo dough. I love phyllo dough and the filling was very tasty but would have preferred more filling as it washer dough heavy. I love milk tea so I had to order the Nurlan milk tea. Huge portion. Literally came in a bowl. Found it tasteless. Service here is friendly and fast.

Incredible Uyghur food not just for Flushing standards but for the entire city as a whole…read more Everything here is halal so that's a nice plus. Went with a group on a Thursday evening, and the place is fairly small with about 10 or so tables. There was only one server but since there was only one other occupied table, this wasn't an issue. Service was prompt and friendly and our server was willing to explain things to some in our group who weren't very familiar with Uyghur cuisine. The space also had nice vibes, clean with understated and tasteful decor on the walls. We had to get the special laghman because this spot is known for that, and you get the option of either lamb or beef. We ordered both varieties and they were both delicious. The meat was tender and they're loaded with fresh vegetables, with the mushrooms being a highlight. The sauce in particular was incredibly rich and savory and I was tempted to get an additional order of noodles on the side just to enjoy the sauce some more. It was that good. Others in our group ordered the stir fried noodles which I got to try; it wasn't saucy like the laghman but it was equally delicious. We also ordered the lamb dumplings, which was probably the weakest dish of the night. They weren't bad, and for $15 you get a large plate of them, meant to be shared or enjoyed as an entree. It's just that for the area you can get better dumplings for a cheaper price. I probably wouldn't order these again when I return, but the chili oil and black vinegar elevated them a bit. But the real highlight of the night had to be the lamb kebabs, spelled kawap here, served on skewers. They are $5 a pop, so they're not exactly cheap but they are worth every penny. Grilled and seasoned to perfection with tender meat, I genuinely think these are the best lamb kebabs I've had in the city, and I've had a lot from dining at many Middle Eastern restaurants. These blow them all away. If you visit, make sure to get one or two skewers for yourself along with your entree. Finally we had some milk tea, served in a bowl and not a cup like you might expect. It was rich, decadent, a little salty, and a great way to end a great meal. All in all, loved my experience here and I'm eager to go back.

After receiving the order, I asked why the green sauce--commonly included as a side with this type of meal--was missing. The employee at the counter told me they had run out. However, I noticed that there was a bottle of the same green sauce on every table in the restaurant, which made the explanation confusing and frustrating. Another concern was that the restaurant refused to accept credit or debit card payments. In 2026, declining standard electronic payment methods creates unnecessary inconvenience for customers. Unfortunately, the food quality also did not meet expectations. The lamb chops were very small and appeared dry and overcooked. Overall, the portion sizes and quality did not justify the price. Based on this experience, I would recommend that customers consider other nearby options. In my experience, Shirazi Kebab offers larger portions in their family meals and the food quality has been noticeably better.

Very disappointed with the service we received for our dinner reservation of 20 last night…read more We called two days in advance to make the reservation and placed our food order three hours ahead of time. We clearly communicated the time we wanted the food served, yet it was obvious that cooking did not begin until we arrived. As a result, the food came out almost an hour late. This was especially frustrating since our group included many hungry kids and people who had just come from work. Delays can happen, but the lack of clear communication was unacceptable. Neither the manager nor the bouncer out front gave us any accurate updates. If there were concerns, we would have gladly paid a deposit in advance to ensure timely service. An 18% gratuity ($90) was automatically added, which left us wondering what service it was for. No salad or bread was offered while we waited, nor did they come out with the food. They gave fries once I got up for a second time to ask for an update with a crying baby. Not once did a server check in to ask if we needed anything. The only interaction we had was when a drinks cart came by after the food was finally here, and even then, the attitude was unpleasant. It also raises questions about whether the gratuity actually goes to the servers or elsewhere. If there was actual service, 18% or even more is nothing and I would be happy to pay it. Toward the end of the night, we felt rushed out. While our bags were still on the tables, staff began cleaning around us, moving chairs, and clearly showing annoyance. Had our food arrived on time, we would not have been there near closing. To be fair, the food quality itself was very good, and the kitchen staff did a great job. However, portions were noticeably smaller than before. The $150 platter was not worth the size we received. Overall, very disappointed with Shirazi, particularly the management and our experience with Edwin.

My friend and I had a round table that normally seat more than 4 people and we ended up with a lot of table space! Our server was very polite and attentive.
