a table and chairs in a restaurant

While on my way home the other day, I saw that this new restaurant recently opened so I quickly jumped off the bus to grab a quick snack. My first impression as I entered and saw families hanging out and kids running around, was that this was a nice neighborhood hangout. The inheritor is a clean and feels spacious. It's a fast casual place, you place your order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. I quickly realized that this was a family-owned business and most of the staff only spoke Chinese. Luckily, the menu is also in English so and I was able to get an order of pork, shrimp and vegetable dumplings. The dumplings were juicy and filled with stuffing. I wish it had been fried rather than steamed but I don't think they understood me when I placed my order. Still, it was a good hearty dish, and it was a bargain for $8.99. I ended up ordering frozen dumplings as well ($25 for 50 pieces) to go. Can't wait to fry them up at home.

I wasn't very familiar with Afghan cuisine or what to expect from a halal döner kebab restaurant, but my experience was excellent. One thing I really appreciated was the open kitchen concept. As soon as you walk in, the kitchen is right there on the side, allowing you to watch the food being prepared. Everything feels transparent and fresh. I ordered the chicken gyro, which was packed with flavor and incredibly juicy. I also tried the lamb tikka and beef kofta. Watching the cooks prepare the meat on the large skewers over the grill made the experience even better. The meal came with rice and a side salad, making for a satisfying and well-balanced plate. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. I'll definitely be coming back to explore more of the menu.

You get two tender thighs and a drumstick, all seasoned and spiced perfectly. The long grain rice is delicious, and the portions are genuinely massive for the price. The side salad and vegetables balance everything out nicely so the meal doesn't feel heavy. They include three sauces on the side, but honestly the chicken is flavorful enough on its own that I haven't really needed them. When I went in person to pick up my order, the place was really clean and well-kept, which I always appreciate. I also noticed they have desserts, so I'll definitely be trying those next time. I'd recommend ordering in person if you can -- you'll skip the extra Uber Eats fees and get the same great food for less. Hidden gem on Northern Blvd.

Ordered the big plate chicken that comes with homemade noodles. The chicken is flavorful and the noodles are the perfect accompaniment. Love the texture of the noodles. Nice and chewy. We loved the lamb skewers. Generous portion for $4.99. Tasted like quality meat with the perfect combo of lean and fat. The baked buns are actually meat pies baked with phyllo dough. I love phyllo dough and the filling was very tasty but would have preferred more filling as it washer dough heavy. I love milk tea so I had to order the Nurlan milk tea. Huge portion. Literally came in a bowl. Found it tasteless. Service here is friendly and fast.

This place is a hidden gem blending seamlessly on many of the business on Main Street. The dishes are hearty and blend Central Asian and Chinese influences. We had the following: * Big Plate Chicken - A family size dish of tender bone in chicken, potatoes, and bell peppers simmered in a bold, spicy sauce over hand pulled flat noodles. The Portions are generous hence the name big plate chicken. * Spicy Lagman with Lamb - The hand pulled noodles are chewy with thin slices of lamb, red peppers, and onions in a delicious sauce. Since this was my first visit and I had to gauge the level of spiciness. We asked them to go light on the heat. Just a note, unless you specify your protein, lamb meat is the default. * Chicken & Lamb Kawap (Kebabs) These were Juicy, charcoal-grilled skewers with a light and satisfying char. The lamb kawap had subtle cumin notes, while the chicken remains moist and smoky. Ideal as a starter and is served with raw onion slices, dry spice mix and a small piece of pita bread. * Salted Milk Tea - Definitely an acquired taste! This traditional Uyghur drink leans on the savory and salty side, not "my cup of tea" but worth trying for curiosity's sake. Despite the limited English fluency among the staff, service is warm and attentive. The team patiently explains dishes using menus with photos. The place is simply decorated and clean, with a low-key vibe. Plating is simple and uninspiring, but the flavors are complex and simple put, Awesome! There is plenty of metered parking on Main street close to the restaurant. A definite must try if you never had Uyghur cuisine before, one taste and you'll be hooked for life.

After receiving the order, I asked why the green sauce--commonly included as a side with this type of meal--was missing. The employee at the counter told me they had run out. However, I noticed that there was a bottle of the same green sauce on every table in the restaurant, which made the explanation confusing and frustrating. Another concern was that the restaurant refused to accept credit or debit card payments. In 2026, declining standard electronic payment methods creates unnecessary inconvenience for customers. Unfortunately, the food quality also did not meet expectations. The lamb chops were very small and appeared dry and overcooked. Overall, the portion sizes and quality did not justify the price. Based on this experience, I would recommend that customers consider other nearby options. In my experience, Shirazi Kebab offers larger portions in their family meals and the food quality has been noticeably better.
