I placed a pickup order through Uber for the four-person family combo. When I arrived, I had to wait about 10 minutes at the counter before anyone came to assist me. After receiving the order, I asked why the green sauce--commonly included as a side with this type of meal--was missing. The employee at the counter told me they had run out. However, I noticed that there was a bottle of the same green sauce on every table in the restaurant, which made the explanation confusing and frustrating. Another concern was that the restaurant refused to accept credit or debit card payments. In 2026, declining standard electronic payment methods creates unnecessary inconvenience for customers. Unfortunately, the food quality also did not meet expectations. The lamb chops were very small and appeared dry and overcooked. Overall, the portion sizes and quality did not justify the price. Based on this experience, I would recommend that customers consider other nearby options. In my experience, Shirazi Kebab offers larger portions in their family meals and the food quality has been noticeably better. read more

Nov.25th.2018 It breaks my heart to put this down on Yelp, because this was one of my favorite places to eat. I ordered a #27, 3 skewers of chicken tikka with Qabuli rice. This was my worst experience yet. The rice was dry, flavorless and tasted stale. The chicken was rubbery, tasteless and overcooked. The sauces were the only flavorful thing in my order. This place has gone down over time, to the point that I don't want to go here again. When all your South Asian friends tell you to eat here, you know that this place is good. Well, I am glad I heeded to their advice because this is the best halal meal my family and I have had! We ordered the Family combo which includes 2 chix kufta, 1 beef kufta, 1 lamb tikka, 1 beef tikka, and 1 chix tikka over a big pile of heavenly rice. This place has some amazing kebabs, well seasoned with good flavor. I actually had two orders to go. The portions are huge for the price. And it comes with a piece of bread and salad. The rice is always super dry , so that's where the white and green sauce comes in. But before covid, I remember both tasting much better. Now the white sauce is super watered down , so was the green sauce. But since it was a to go order , I just used the sauces I had at home. Overall it was good. Bakhter halal kababs is embedded in a residential area of Fresh Meadows Queens. Seemingly hidden away from the main bustle of commercial traffic. Come hungry because portion sizes here are a plenty! Try the Chicken and lamb tika and beef kufta you can't go wrong. I feel the spices are not as pronounced in the food, but the food is delicious and prepared fresh since there is a little wait once you place your order and when your food comes out it's nice and hot. A big plus is the white and green sauce bottles are at each table so you can put as much or as little sauce on your food. There is no wait staff, just place your order at the counter, pay and have a seat. When you're finished eating you can leave the plates on the table, they will clean up after you, I usually leave a $1 tip since I feel guilty about letting someone clean up after me. My only 2 gripes about this place is the rice is not as fragrant and tasty compared to other Halal places and they only accept CASH and no credit. Their menu also feature fish, chicken sandwiches and french fries. The restaurant has no private parking lot and 1 hour meter street parking is available, you can find free parking around the residential homes by the restaurant. Overall if you need to stuff your face and stomach with some decent kababs this is the place. read more

Walked in and immediately felt out of place, which is always a good sign when patronizing a new and exotic restaurant, however despite initial impressions, I was extremely underwhelmed by the food at this establishment I ordered the number 1 and number 2 combos here, which was just a variation of chicken kebab, beef kebabs and lamb, one with bone and the other without, white sauce was decent but nothing to write home about, while the green sauce was definitely forgettable. the dish was just your standard meat and rice combination dish ( althought a tad bit pricey for what is was) , the rice was extremely plain as there was barely any spices, aroma or fragrance, and the meat was just as bland. Overall nothing at this place really wow'ed me, the spices here were really bland as if they were nonexistent. Overall you could do much better than this place for kebobs read more

The OG of Afghan kabab joints, Bakhter still delivers mostly. Their beef kababs can be a bit overcooked sometimes and occasionally they dont have lamb when inquiring. I love the food at Bakhter! It's amazing for the price as well. For around 9-10$ you get a whole skewer of meat along with the plate of seasoned rice and side salad. Their meat is seasoned super well with so much flavor and always tastes juicy and fresh. My go to dish is the rice with beef tikka and chicken tikka, boneless pieces of tender meat. However, don't go here expecting a dine in restaurant experience. It's very casual and a lot of people just order and seat themselves. They have refrigerators with lassi, mango juice, soda and water. They also have a freezer with kulfi to have something sweet after if that's what you like. I always need some dessert after I eat so a pistachio kulfi is great. Wow. SERIOUS Afghan food with protein and carbs that'll put street vendor type food to shame. Couldn't tell you how I even arrived here since the bro-in law was the driver, but sure glad we did. Nothing impressive with walking into an extremely crowded dull giant square cafeteria-like room with families everywhere for dinner initially. BUT I could've cared less about the little children screeching at the top of their lungs...once I got a hold of my CHICKEN TIKKA plate. Generous portion of well seasoned meat over an even more generous portion of tasty rice. Sampled some BEEF KUFTA from my sis too, which was just ok. Drown all of that with a large bottle of white sauce provided for you at your table and you're good to go. The sauce isn't as heavy as other white yogurt type sauces, definitely a bit more tangy though. Green sauce (jalapeño based) is available too for those wanting a spicier kick. The dish came with a side salad of lettuce and onion that you drown with white/green sauce, and bread shaped like Pizza Hut breadsticks that tasted bland. Nothing too special. Self serve canned sodas! Walk up to the multiple fridges they have and grab whatever you want. In the end they just ask you how much you drank and add onto your bill accordingly. Service does stink here though; had to repeat to multiple waiters to finally receive a pitcher of water for the table. read more

The side salad is just pre-prepared chopped iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, and onions - a real meh. The bread the combos come with is not good, stale-like. Aside from the delicious Afghan food itself, this restaurant also serves things like burgers, fries, and chicken nuggets. Drinks are self-served. This restaurant is by no means fancy at all. In fact, it is kind of dark and dingy. Cleanliness can be questionable. Sauce bottles are sticky. It appears to be a large ghetto fast food and catering hall for lack of a better description. An Egyptian friend of mine recommended this place to me as it is apparently well known in the area amongst his friends and family and this place did not disappoint! We came in around early lunch time and there were plenty of spaces to dine in. Service was good as the waiter was very quick and we got our orders pretty fast.   I ordered the Combination No. 1 which included three pieces of lamb chops, once chicken tikka and one beef kufta, and it also came with a side of bread, rice and salad. I added the carrots and raisins to the rice, which was a great touch. The meats were cooked perfectly, as it had the right amount of seasoning and it was not dry at all. Was looking to get both a combo with rice and also just some kababs and was happy to see this was an option here. Found an old menu online so some prices have gone up but called in, drove over and picked up my food. It was nice to see when stopping in that there were a bunch of orders lined up on the counter to be picked up so they seem busy. Not a big deal for me that it was cash only but we ordered a Lamb Tikka combo, and an order of 2x chicken tikka kababs. Came out to $19 ($12.50 and $6.50 respectively). I used to visit this place all the time for over 10 years. But my more recent visits have been less than pleasant. I remember back when you used to order an item and they used to pack the plates to the top with a good balance of salad, rice, and meat. Now, they barely give enough meat and all you're eating is rice and salad. I ordered a few plates to go, and since I know they give a lot of rice, I ordered one dish without rice. They charged me full price for it, and when I got home I opened it up and saw scraps of meat that were burnt. I ordered the lamp chops and chicken koftas. The lamb was burt and the koftas were mashed into pieces. It did not look appetizing and it wasn't worth driving back to complain and get a refund. Not to mention, the service there is the worst I have ever seen. It's like they get annoyed when a customer walks through the door. They don't give you attention, they give you a nasty attitude, and they food takes forever to make. And when you ask how long it will take, they say "its coming now" and you're left waiting for another 10 minutes. I went on a day it was empty inside except one family in there. I overheard the family complaining they were waiting over 45 minutes for their food. That is totally unacceptable. Needless to say, I will be avoiding this place at all costs. After a long movie this ferret was very hungry. Looking through his ferret super manly purse (I got no pockets) he saw that this ferret was pretty broke and didn't have very much money. There are been tall tales of a place where the food was plentiful, good and doesn't hit he wallet too hard. This ferret decided that this is the day to go exploring for cheap eats. After the long travel from Flushing to Fresh Meadows, he spotted this oasis of neon palm trees that beckoned to his empty stomach. Luckily for this traveler, the movie didn't let out yet across the street yet and decided to hurry and finish his quest to a full stomach. We will see if, this little guy will pay for food with a bad case of heartburn and a queasy stomach. Menu of the items for consumption. For those not too familiar with some items, the pictures in the menu helps with the decision making and amount of food that you will receive. Interior of Bakhter, the numbers are for the wait staff to drop off your food. The interior is pretty simple nothing fancy unless you count the neon palm trees in the corner. Not a very romantic place but nether-less a good place to each compare to the other Afghani restaurants out there. Salads at this place is pretty basic. The basic lettuce and tomatoes are staple vegetable you can get at a Afghani place besides the grilled tomato. You can drizzle the white yogurt sauce to give it a nice tang and is common practice for visitors of this type of restaurant. The Hot Wings are cooked to a very nice golden brown deliciousness (G.B.D.) that would make a grown man cry at times. The bread is very thin, crisp and attaches itself well to the wing. Once you crack open the shell of this wing, you expose the trapped steam within the chicken wing. The moist plump texture inside the wing is just waiting to be discovered. Rice here is excellent and pretty much comes with all the grilled dishes. The basmati rice is firm and separated, not mushy. It is well flavored and seasoned,I can't tell what is in it besides some oil and possibly a stock. with very mild spices. These places usually keep it a secret anyways. Chicken Tika and Beef Kufta over rice is a very popular combination. The chicken has that very nice grilled exterior that many people love. Even with the nice grilled outside, the inside of the chicken was still moist but not watery or oozing with the juices. The Beef Kufta is similar to a Indian Seekh Kabob. It is basically consist of ground beef, root vegetables, seasonings and then reformed into a long cigar. Then the meat is skewered and grilled over charcoals. It was very good and has the texture of meat balls. Chicken Tika and Beef Kufta Kabob is a good combination if you enjoy solid chunks of meat. The chicken Tika is the same chicken as the other combo dishes. The Beef Kufta Kabobs are well done, most middle eastern places frown upon bloody meat since it generally not considered good practice by them. This though does not make the meat dry or tough. The marinade that they used did its job and kept the meat moist. The beef kabobs were very delicious and had a nice chew to it. White sauce here is very tasty and one of the better ones that I have tasted. It is not oily, greasy, too watery, too salty, or just taste plain weird as many other places. It works well with almost everything that they serve here. Chicken wings, fries, salad, kabobs and even the bread will be complimented well with this. Keep an eye on your squeeze tube and make sure that it well stock at all times. read more
