While the food guy is nice, understanding, and quick, the guy working the front register spends 99.9999% of his time just watching the camera behind you, dreaming of outside, and is just barely cognizant of you passing him money. It's a bodega, so what they lack in ambiance, they more than make up in local entertainment. You're in Jamaica, New York, and you can people watch while you wait for your delicious food. The whole place has such a peaceful, distinctive vibe. They play soothing, meditative music, like the kind you'd hear in a spa, and they have cute inspirational cards that make the experience feel even more special. The diner has been around since 1972, and that sense of character really comes through.
