Decided to eat Greek food after a cultural performance at Queens College's Colden Auditorium and wanted to not travel too far from Fresh Meadows. Saw the reviews and decided to give Sevan Restaurant a try. First thing, this is an Armenian restaurant designed for catering a party or special event. Very opulent in its decor. Walked in and had to ask if they were serving food because the restaurant space was set up to cater to celebrations. The restaurant was empty except for a table with two women. My friend and I had a round table that normally seat more than 4 people and we ended up with a lot of table space! Our server was very polite and attentive. We ordered a babaganoush, a pita pizza that's folded in half with ground beef, a Mediterranean salad and a kabob combo over rice. Food was tasty and loved the salad dressing. When I see I haven't written a Sevan review yet, it makes me wonder if some of the harsh words in my work performance reviews are true. This is a superb spot. In-person was more festive but a Sevan delivery wasn't merely a highlight of a Bayside staycation a few years ago, but a major catalyst for the trip. I was interested in the kebab combo but passed due to the 25-minute wait, so I'll be back for soon. The Armenian salad is outstanding. The main ingredients aren't anything you haven't heard of before but the undisclosed herbs and spices are magical. The waiter was outstanding overall, and I'm especially thankful for the bread refills to use up the remaining salad liquid. Geography notes: describing the location might push me into my "Californians But Public Transit" mode. I walked a mile from Bayside LIRR, should be easy if you're into the Uber/Lyft thing. Direct north-south buses don't really exist in this residential zone but the Q27 from downtown Flushing or the Q30 from the 169th St. subway station are nearby. read more

Simply put, this place is awesome! I was looking for a Mediterranean place in queens for dinner and I stumbled upon this Armenian restaurant and catering business. When you walk into Sevan you feel like you are entering an upscale home. The menu is filled with authentic Armenian cuisine that tastes as good as it sounds. My friend and I started with the Lahmajun which is like a small pizza/pita pocket filled with ground meat. It was a delicious pita pocket and at a price point of $4 well worth the investment. For our mains my friend got the manti (small dumplings filled with ground meat served with a tomato sauce and yogurt sauce) and i boy the chicken kebab. The manti was so fresh and the chicken was very juicy and flavorful! The waiter even through in a glass of Armenian wine with our meal and honestly it was so good next time I will be sure to start my meal with it! All in all, lots of good, fresh, authentic Armenian food at a reasonable price point. Will return soon. read more

We found this place through Yelp after looking for months on end for a nice venue for our engagement party. We read through some reviews and decided we'd give it a shot. We came here back in April to try the food and make sure the food tasted good before making any final decisions. Little did we know, the food was exquisite. The beef was out of this world ( as was everything else). For our engagement party, everything went as planned. We came to set up the venue and it was perfect! It's such a nice elegant place in the heart of Queens. However, the day before we came and dropped off some champagne to find out that the next day in the morning they were still sitting in the boxes- no in the fridge to be chilled. This is not your typical restaurant. The style of food is very different. Nonetheless, the food was truly amazing. The rice was buttery soft, the beef was so delicious we had so many people asking where they can get more. However, when we came back in April we were told we would get the beef, chicken, rice and veggies. On the day of our party, we didn't receive any veggies. Perhaps this was a miscommunication on their end about bringing veggies. We had 2 individuals who were vegan, gluten free etc therefore they were the only people with the veggies. Just seemed a little strange to forget about veggies. For the cake, we were able to bring it in the morning of and they put it in the fridge. When time came to serve the cake and make a toast, we were informed that the cake was a little "smooshed". When I picked the cake up from Martha's it was perfect. Perhaps they put something on top of the cake ? It kind of annoyed me considering I paid over $100 for the cake. The only thing that came off of the cake was my fiancés name. I thought of a solution on the spot and asked them to cover it with some candles. They did so and it was alright. It didn't bother me that much but again, seemed strange. The food that we didn't end up eating was put in a box and given to us to take home. It was a good, affordable spot to bring people to spend time with. Some things I noticed : - the boss is not very kind, respectively. I know he's about business but sometimes you should hear our the customer who is paying for the services and venue, instead of talking over them. - the manager (who is the boss' son was much nicer and more understanding, he was willing to sit with us and go through everything with us, he was probably better in communication than the boss) Overall, this was a wonderful place to have our engagement. The waiters get 10/10 for their patience and running back and forth all night. They were so kind and great with communication. We would probably come back here again for future parties and celebrations. It was a great night ! read more

It says catering as the restaurant description but the food is much better than most places that describe themselves as catering. I was invited to an event of 30 people which took up about half the room we were in. Food is typical Mediterranean: babaganoush, Hummus, kebabs, salmon, stuffed grape leaves, cheese, olives, baklava and romanian cake all excellent. It's byob which is a great way to save on cost. Service is attentive and friendly. I had last been here 7 years ago and the food remains as good as it was back then. Recommended. read more

Came with my small family of 3 (including our toddler) for a late lunch (around 2:30pm). The place was quite empty (we were the only table). My husband found the place. We checked in with Yelp and got free babaganoush and hummus appetizer along with the warm pita bread. We ordered the combination grilled plate which came with chicken, lamb, beef and pork. it also came with grilled vegetables, rice on a beautifully displayed plate and OH MY was it delicious. All the meats were very well seasoned, tender and cooked to perfection. The best part of our dining experience was the service. Our server was super attentive and kind. The owner, Art was there and setting up for the big party they will host tomorrow night. He was so friendly, played with our son and even gave him a sweet bag of chocolate christmas treats! I find it almost eerie how the food at Sevan lacks absolutely any imperfection whatsoever. I'm serious... Let's close our eyes for a moment: you take a bite of chicken kebab or a tear of lamb chop, begin to chew and naturally anticipate such thoughts as "Well, it's a smidge dry..." or "A little generous with the seasoning there, chief." Well, these are thoughts you shan't have here. Every protein was grilled, seared, and seasoned by some culinary deity of Armenian cuisine; a true magician of kebab and a sorcerer of soujuk. The steak cubes were a heavenly medium-rare, salted, peppered, marinated, and completely ready to melt in your mouth. The chicken was moist throughout and delicately charred without resulting in an unnecessarily burnt crisp. The lamb kebab was juicy and pink as well, a dish so easily overcooked elsewhere. And the lamb chops...well, there are never enough of these to go around. Also rather mind-boggling was how we were literally the only table in the entire building on a weekend night. There are only 2 or 3 true Armenian restaurants in the New York Metro Area. This one is an absolute must-try. PRO-TIP: Stop by the bakery next-door afterwards and bring homw some Armenian String Cheese. They don't make patches for this sort of addiction. read more

Oh boy, where do I even start this review. Well after having visited this establishment on many occasions I can safely with full confidence recommend this Armenian restaurant to anyone. Walk in further more and you welcomed with huge letter "S" on the floor in front of the mini stage. Yes, you heard it, mini stages as I have heard that they host live performances from time to time. The front room is very classic, and very suitable for any occasion except, in my opinion, birthdays only due to how classy the room is. The back new room is very well air conditioned and possess a very new age reformed feel to it, suitable for a younger crowd. Okay enough of that, you can just visit the place and see for yourself. So let's jump into the juicy points "no pun intended". Food! Last time I visited, I got the combination platter which include a portion of the following: hummus, babaganoush, and eggplant caviar. Along with our appetiser we ordered a large Armenian Salad with the French Feta which incredibly delicious, ugh. And well... juicy :p one of my friends ordered Lahemajun which was delicious to smell but on her account it was: "bombsididdy" ahaha. For main course, my friends ordered a combination platter for 6 people which was well more than accommodating for the human garbage disposal of friends. The combination platter included grilled chicken kabab, lamb sheish, lule (ground beef kebab), Sevan steak which I believe is a skirt steak kebab (could be wrong), grilled veggies, rice, and french fries. And let me tell you, the sight was marvellous and everything was so juicy oof. Due to my dietary restrictions, as I am a pescatarian, I ordered the grilled branzzino with rice which I could not I almost swallowed while (a whole fish that is not fillet.) All in all, the food and atmosphere here is phenomenal and I can't highly recommend this any more. This is a well long overdue review as I have been coming here for over 2 years. read more

Went here with my friend after telling him I wanted to try Armenian food. He said this was the place to go. He was right. Absolutely everything was incredible. We checked in to get the free hummus/babaganoush app plate, and started with an Armenian pizza each. Afterwards, we shared two grill combos (1/2 chicken kebab, 1/2 lamb kebab and 1/2 lamb chops, 1/2 steak kebab). The meat melted in your mouth and by the end, we were stuffed but still wanted more. The decor of the restaurant is very classy, food was delicious, and the staff was very hospitable and friendly. I think I found my new regular spot for some appetizing Armenian cuisine. We ordered the small cucumber and tomato salad with feta, whatever spices they used (imported from Armenia) tasted so good - feta and vegetables were fresh and I couldn't stop eating it. Second appetizer was their house special of dumplings with sour cream and tomatoes. I never had anything like this before- the dumplings were the size of a dime but each were stuffed with beef and paired well with the sour cream and tomato sofrito that was placed on top. As my main entree, I ordered a main plate with 1/2 lamb chops and 1/2 chicken. The lamb was cooked to perfection and the chicken had tons of flavor and was far from being dry. With everything I ate, I paired it with Armenian wine chosen by our host and it was a fine pair. The wine was rich in body and enhanced the flavor of the feta, lamb, and chicken. The hostess was as kind enough to offer us dessert, some baklava and afterwards gave me and my boyfriend a tour of the vicinity. All in all, I have nothing but praise for the cooking here. For the price, I am surprised at the quantity as well. Very filling as well. Atmosphere: I feel the familial vibe comes well across from the hospitality here. Whether on a date or with your family, this is a serene environment to grab some food. When I went, they had live music playing which enriched the experience. The servers here are extremely polite and patient which blew me away. the best friend of my whole life is Armenian but we never went to armenian place. so i decided to bring my family to an armenian restaurant and check it ou. Found this awesome looking place near my house. I gotta tell you, the best armenian food I ever ate. Omg the appetizers will be enough. I've come here on more than one occasion with my family and recently with friends. The food here is excellent. We got the lahmajun, combination platter (hummus, baba ganoush, and eggplant dip), sujukh and the Sevan Mix Kebab Combo for 6. I was pleasantly surprised at how tender, flavorful, and juicy the chicken breast was. The servings were generous and all of the other meats (ground beef, lamb, and pork kebabs) were very flavorful and tender. And the thin wrap at the bottom of the plate was a nice touch, soaking up all of the meat juices so you can enjoy it after the meat is done.
